PART 1 – A Revelation
It had been five days since Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay had shared their first kiss. Five days since they exchanged ‘I love you’s’. Five days since their first date had been arranged. And five days since either one of them had thought about anything other than those three things.
Willow’s last class of the day had finished at 4. Now, one and a half hours later, she was standing in front of her closet, wrapped in a fluffy white towel, surrounded by various items of clothing which were scattered (in a random but organised manner) around the room. Every aspect of her forthcoming date with Tara was planned to perfection in her head, except for what she would wear.
‘Great, I know where we’re going; what time; what we’re gonna talk about; how often I’m gonna want to just, kiss her.’ A sweet little grin accompanied this thought. ‘But I neglected to plan clothing. What, were you just planning on going naked Rosenberg? Oh yeah, that’d make an impression. Okay, clothes for a date, I can do this, I’ve been on dates. That’s true, but I’ve only been on dates with Oz, who, lets face it, thought I looked hot in an Eskimo suit. Plus, this is a date with a girl; I’ve never been on a date with a girl before.’
At this point Buffy walked in the room. Seeing her best friend staring into space in much the same position as she had been almost half an hour ago, the slayer decided to quiz the redhead.
“Err, Will? Have you moved in the last half hour?”
“What? Oh, yes, yes I have. I moved to my closet, took clothes out, put the clothes on the right pile, and then came back to here. In fact, I’ve done that several times since you went out. Oh look, you got drinks.” Willow then proved that she could indeed move as she walked over to Buffy and took one of the cups from the blonde. “Mmm, mocha. Nothing bad about mochas, all that mocha goodness. Definitely all good, and sweet tasting. Yep, mocha equals good.”
“Well that’s good then. Are you sure you need caffeine though? You seem kinda, nervous or edgy.”
“Edgy? I’m not edgy and I’m certainly not nervous. There’s absolutely nothing at all for me to be edgy or nervous about. Nope, no siree, no nerves and no edginess.”
“O-kay. You wanna tell me why you’re being all weird then?”
“Weird? Me? I’m just picking out clothes, like people do when they’re getting dressed. It’s all perfectly normal, nothing weird about it.”
“True, but I’ve never known you agonise over what you should wear, like ever. If I didn’t know better I’d swear you were getting ready for a date.” At Willow’s silence and the ‘uh oh, busted’ look on the wiccans’ face, Buffy realised that she’d hit the nail right on the head. “Oh my god! You have a date. Why didn’t you tell me? Come on Will, I need details. Where are you going? Who is he? Do I know him? Is he in one of your classes?”
“Erm, okay. Yes I have a date, we’re going for coffee, then to see a movie and we may go to the Bronze afterwards. And yes you do know them.”
“So, spill. Who’s the lucky guy?”
“Well you see, it’s not, erm. Okay, Buffy I have something to tell you, why don’t you sit down?”
“Sit down? Okay what’s going on Will, you’re kinda freaking me out a little here?”
“Just, sit, okay?” Reluctantly the slayer sat at the end of her bed and Willow sat opposite on the end of her own bed. “Okay, here goes. You see the thing is, this date, it’s not with a guy.”
“O-kay.” Was Buffy’s only response, it was coupled with a blank stare. Clearly the slayer did not grasp the implications of this revelation.
‘Jeez Buff, how slow are you? You really don’t get it? Okay, I guess I’m gonna have to make this a little easier for you.’ Willow thought to herself before taking a different approach to get her point across.
“Buffy, do you remember my evil, skanky, kinda gay vamp self?” The blonde nodded so Willow continued. “Well it turns out I do have something in common with her after all, and it’s not the evil, skanky part.”
You could practically see the mental cogs working over-time in the slayer’s brain as she tried to deduce what Willow was saying.
“Oh my god! You’re a vampire!?” Buffy finally exclaimed incredulously, causing the redhead to give an irritated sigh.
“Okay, and not the vampire part either.” Willow amended to further assist Buffy’s intellectual ineptness.
There was silence, silence which Willow considered filling with more babbled words, until she noticed that her best friend’s blank stare had been replaced with a look of shock and confusion.
“You mean the kinda gay thing? No, that can’t be it. You’re not gay. I mean, you were with Oz and there was the whole Xander thing. You’re straight Will, you like guys, like Oz and Xander, and Oz.”
“You said Oz twice.”
“I know, but you guys were really serious so I thought he deserved a second mention.”
“Buffy, I know this is a lot to get your head round. It took me a while to get used to the whole idea too. But there’s this girl, and we’ve grown really close over the past few months, and I, I love her. I love her so much, and, and she loves me. I wasn’t intentionally looking for a relationship, especially with a girl, but it just kind of happened, and it feels so right. She’s so amazing, and sweet, and beautiful, and gentle. She makes me happy, she makes me feel whole you know? Buffy, are, are you okay with this? You’re not, freaked or anything?”
Buffy stood up, considered pacing the floor, then changed her mind and sat down again. She opened her mouth to speak, then closed it again. Finally she looked at her best friend. Willow was looking at her expectantly; she looked so nervous and scared. Scared that Buffy would be freaked, that she wouldn’t accept her for who she was. Scared that by being honest and open about her true feelings she had risked losing one of her closest friends.
Buffy finally made herself seriously consider everything Willow had said. The silence dragged on far too long for the young wiccan and every moment of it was agonising. By the time the slayer finally spoke the redhead was on the verge of tears.
“Okay, I’m not freaked. You kinda caught me off guard a little bit, but I’m totally okay with it.”
Willow let go of the breath she’d been holding in and wiped away the build up of tears that had threatened to spill. Seeing how upset Willow had become Buffy moved to sit next to the wiccan and wrapped her into a comforting hug.
“Oh Buffy, I was so scared you’d hate me.”
“What? I could never hate you Will. You’re still you, still the same person no matter whether you’re gay or straight. You’re still Willow and I still love you.”
Now Willow allowed her tears to slowly roll down her cheeks. Not tears of fear or pain, but tears of relief and thanks for her best friends acceptance and unconditional love.
“Thank you. You have no idea how much that means to me.”
“It’s the truth, and don’t you ever forget it.”
After a moment of just holding each other Willow stopped crying and moved to look at her best friend.
“So, you wanna help me get ready for my date?” She asked with an excited smile.
“I have one question first.”
“What?”
“Who is this girl?”
“Tara.” The redhead’s complete love for the fellow witch was poured into that one word, and the sweetest of grins accompanied the answer.
“Wow. You really are crazy about her aren’t you?”
“Completely and happily.”
“Then I’m definitely happy for you. Now, let’s get you dressed.”

Posh flowers make me feel groovy - My niece
Lovely start. Ohh first date! Hmm, although I would have most gladly gone with initial consideration of going naked
so I'll have to settle for the outfit that Buffy and Willow are going to manage to pick out for W/T's date!
