Well Aimee I just found time to read the last two updates and they were great! The first one with Xander explaining to Anya he was afraid of becoming his father, and with Anya knowing that Xander could never turn-out like him was heart-warming. They are finally starting to reconnect after the wedding fiasco, very sweet.



As for the second update I love how Willow realized it was the love and especially the person she was doing the magic with (ie Tara) that made connection intense. Willow laid her self bare to Tara during the transfer, and Tara was finally able to realize how much Willow loves her. Great cliffhanger with Tara's mother, and looking forward to the last parts of the story.

Unbreakable Promise was supposed to be a one-shot fic, but some people asked me to write a happier sequel, so I have started that. It's starts out rather dark, but it does end happily.

Time Slip



Part 20



“Oh, mama!” Tara cried. She ran towards the woman, her arms outstretched, and passed right through her.



“No, my love. You can not touch me. I’m just a projection,” Tara’s mother spoke.



“Mama? I’ve missed you.”



“Oh, I’ve missed you so much more, sweetie.” Laura Maclay spoke softly to her daughter.



Willow watched the scene playing itself out in front of her. She reached for Tara’s hand instinctively, and Tara gave her a reassuring squeeze, though her eyes never left her mother.



“Why did you l-leave me with th-them, Mama?” Tara asked lightly, choking on the words.



The pain in Tara’s voice cut right to Willow’s heart. The last time she had heard that much pain in her lover’s voice was when Tara confronted her about her casting a spell on her.



“Oh, Tara. You know I never wanted to leave you, let alone with them.” Laura spat out the last word as if it tasted sour.



Willow spoke up, “Um, hi. I’m sorry for interrupting...” Tara gave her a loving gaze, telling her to continue, and that it was alright. “Okay, don’t take this the wrong way, but... what are you doing here?”



“Ah, Willow. Always the scientist.” The woman before Willow spoke softly, but her eyes held an anger that was directed at Willow.



Willow recoiled, as if she was burned.



Tara looked from her mother to her love, trying to figure out what was going on.



“Willow, honey. What is it?” Tara asked.



Willow just shook her head. She understood why Laura Maclay was looking at her that way, but she didn’t want to say it. She deserved it.



“Mother? What happened?” Tara’s tone was icy, which was something neither of the other women heard often.



Laura Maclay turned to face her daughter. “Willow knows,” she said.



Willow cleared her throat. “I’m sorry,” she said, her voice full of regret. “I’m so sorry.”



Laura’s gaze softened, and she nodded. “I know you are... but if you ever hurt her aga–“



“Mama!” Tara cried, “No! Willow and I have been through this.” She added proudly, “And we are moving past it.”



Willow looked past Tara, meeting Laura’s eyes. “I won’t,” she mouthed silently.



“Good. That’s what I wanted to hear. That was the whole point of me sending you two back there. So you could move past it.”



“Whoa, hold on!” Buffy had come into the room, alerted by Tara’s cry only seconds earlier. “ YOU sent them back there? Who the hell do you think you are?”



“She’s my mother, Buffy,” Tara said quietly.



“Oh. Sorry, then. You know, me Slayer,” Buffy pointed to herself, “with big mouth.” She muttered under her breath, “I still have to take out Warren and Co.”



“Mama, how did you send us back? And why? I mean, I understand what you said about wanting us back together... but, why then, were you still mad at Willow?” Tara asked.



“I have some friends at the top.” Laura pointed skywards, and continued. “Why? Because you needed something to pull you together. Make you work as a team again.”



“You put Tara in deliberate danger? You sent her back in time where she was supposed to be hanged... and with a werewolf?” Willow asked disbelievingly.



“Will, baby. She sent us both back. Not just me.” Tara said soothingly.



“Yeah, but you were the one I was worried about.” Willow rejoined.



Laura stopped them, holding up her hands for silence. “The reason I was still mad at Willow was because she hurt you. I didn’t trust her. But now I see that she loves you too much to ever hurt you again. And as for me putting my daughter in danger?” Laura turned to Willow, “The werewolf was not part of the plan. But I knew you’d be able to get out of the hanging without too much trouble.”



Now that Willow thought about it, she realized, * It was kinda easy... too easy!* She looked at Tara and knew that the same thoughts were going through her head, too. Willow chuckled lightly. “You have quite a sense of humor, sending us there.” She finally said.



Laura returned the laugh. * Tara, my dear, you do pick well.* She thought, amused.



Oz was coming to. He lifted his head, and groaned, alerting the others of his presence.



“Oz!” Buffy exclaimed, running over to him. “What happened?” She asked, looking around at the various faces in the room.



“He changed. It was a full moon, and he hadn’t done his meditations or taken the herbs he was supposed to,” Willow answered.



Oz sat up, taking in his location. “I’m okay. Are you both alright?” He asked Willow and Tara, concerned.



“We’re okay, Oz,” Tara replied. “You sure you’re okay?” Tara asked, her motherly instincts asserting themselves.



“Yeah. I’m cool,” Oz said, still trying to take everything in.



“Why wasn’t Lucy able to get through?” Buffy asked.



“I closed all portals going in or out of that place and time.” Laura replied.



“How did I get in, then?” Oz asked.



“I closed them afterwards, when I was first aware that you were entering. I couldn’t keep you from getting in, but I closed it right as you were through.” Laura said.



“Why did we get sent back when our energies were merged?” Tara asked.



“I had set it up so that you would get sent back as soon as you opened yourselves wholly to each other once again. When Willow offered you her energy, you knew you had to trust her, and you did.” Laura said.



Willow beamed. * She trusted me?*



Tara looked at Willow, bemused. “Yes, sweetie, of course I trusted you.”



Willow’s grin spread wider.



“And you, Willow. You laid it all out there on the line. You would have done anything for Tara. And I know you know it wasn’t about magick at all.”



Tara smiled sweetly at Willow. * Oh, baby. I’m so proud of you,* she thought.



Willow looked around the room. “Where are Xander and Dawn?” She asked curiously.



Buffy smiled, she knew now that there was hope for her. Both of her best friends had found love that would last. “Xander is with Anya.”



Willow’s mouth dropped open. “What happened? I mean, we’re gone for a little while and Xander and Anya are back together?”



“Yep! We met up with her at the Magic Box, and she and Xander talked it out. They aren’t getting married, yet. Anya understands that Xander needs time.” Buffy said happily.



“And Dawn?” Tara asked.



“She’s sleeping, but she’ll be pissed at me if I don’t let her know that you’re back, safe and sound.” With that, Buffy ran up the steps to Dawn’s room.



Tara and Willow turned to face each other, and then looked to Tara’s mother.



“Well, my daughters. I’m afraid it’s time for me to go.”



Tara’s eyes widened, but she knew that it was too much to hope that her mother could stay. “You have to leave?”



“Yes, my love. I’m sorry, but this is not my place. I will see you again, don’t worry. But don’t you dare let it happen anytime soon!” Laura said.



Laura reached her hand out to her daughter, and then looked at Willow and said, “Take care of her, my little redheaded daughter.”



“I will,” Willow said, her eyes tearing. This wonderful woman was calling her her daughter.



“Good bye.” Laura disappeared.



Willow pulled Tara close, stroking the crying blonde’s hair. “Shh, baby. It wasn’t good bye forever. But don’t you go seeing her anytime soon.”



Tara pulled back, and looked into Willow’s green eyes. “I won’t. I can’t leave you again.”



“You will never have to.”
