Thoughts in italics! Tara was almost finished with putting up the new hay and giving the horses their oats. Needing to make up the hours from the day before, hours that she had missed because of the SAT, she had gotten up very early and had now been at the stables since six o’clock. She estimated that it was close to noon now. She’d given each of the horses a very long brush down, mucked out the stables, and done some other chores that were really necessary.
She wanted to finish soon to get back to the dorm. She needed to take a shower before lunch and then Willow and she had special plans. They where going to try a new spell together. It would be the first time that they tried to join their powers as the only other time was when Tara had taught and guided Willow’s work with lighting the fire at the B&B.
Now, she heard voices entering the stable and prepared to get horses ready for the riders. She was not surprised to see Michelle and Emma enter the stable: “Hey y’all going for a ride today? Where’s James?”
Emma spoke first, “Hey Tara. Yeah, we wanted to ride for a little while. Burn off some energy. James is studying.”
Noting Michelle’s smile, Tara turned to the girl, “Hey, what’s up with you? You look like you have some secret. Someone new for you?”
Michelle continued smiling, “Not yet. But I do have a little secret. It’s outside, come on,” she called out, turning to leave the stable as Tara pulled on her coat from the hook by the door. Emma walked right into Tara’s back as she had stopped in the doorway, shocked to see Willow standing a few feet from the corral.
Willow smiled, “Hey.”
Walking over to her girlfriend Tara could not contain her joy or surprise, “hey yourself Willow. What’s up?” she asked hugging the redhead tightly.
Willow was obviously nervous as she answered, “Well Michelle and Emma said they were coming down to ride and you had said you were going to be finishing working about noon and then we could go and do that thing.” Although Tara noted Emma and Michelle glance down giggling when Willow said that, Willow apparently did not as she babbled on: “So anyway, I thought it would be a good surprise and I brought a picnic lunch and maybe you would like to have a picnic and I could come with them and there’d be three of you down here and no arm-biting and you would probably like to show me your horse and everything and uh well, so here I am,” she finally winded down.
Tara took Willow’s hand in her own before speaking: “Willow, I can’t b-b-believe you came down here. That means so much to me and I’d love to have a picnic lunch and show you Chestnut. Goddess you are amazing.” She leaned forward pressing her lips to Willow’s. Wrapping her arms around the redhead, she threaded her hands into that wavy red hair, holding her girlfriend close to her. Slowly, she parted her lips, darting her tongue out to tease Willow’s lips, nipping at her bottom lip with her teeth. As Willow parted her lips, Tara flicked her tongue against the inside of her teeth, roaming around her mouth and eventually deep inside. Enjoying the feel of Tara’s tongue in her mouth, Willow lightly sucked on its tip, hearing Tara moan in the response. As the two drew back from the kiss to lean their foreheads together, Tara laughed, “I guess Michelle and Emma went to get their horses.”
“Yeah, nothing to see here folks, move it along,” Willow joked back.
Tara took Willow’s hand saying, “ok sweetie, I’ll bring Chestnut out. Why don’t you stand on the outside of the coral and if you want to get closer you can ok?” Willow nodded, moving a few feet back from the fence.
As Tara entered the stable, she approached the other girls who were now saddling their horses: “I-I-I don’t know what y’all did or said but t-t-thank you.”
Michelle smiled back at the blonde, “We didn’t do that much. Just sat near Willow at breakfast talking about how we were coming down and would probably see you and how happy you always are with the horses. Then we casually asked her if she wanted to come with us and she said ok.” Tara gave her a quick hug, saying, “well thank you. Y’all have n-n-no idea how much it means to me.” Turning toward her horse, she finished, “y’all enjoy your ride.”
Tara led Chestnut through the stable and out into the corral watching Willow carefully. The redhead stood very still a few feet from the fence. The blonde led the horse to the edge of the corral before stopping to climb over and join Willow. As she held out her hand to allow the horse to take something from her, she held out her other hand to her girlfriend who stepped forward to take it. “She’s eating a sugar cube from my hand. Would you like to give her one?” she asked gently.
Willow shook her head but didn’t back up. A moment later, she asked, “will you ride her for a minute so I can watch?”
Backing from the fence, Tara kissed Willow lightly before squeezing her hand, “sure baby. I’ll just ride her around the coral ok?” She climbed the fence again, moving directly onto the horse’s back before moving to make a few light laps around the corral. As she neared the edge of the coral, dropping lightly off Chestnut and back to Willow, she noted with surprise that Willow was crying.
“Hey sweetie,” Tara asked, “what’s with the tears?” She asked as she pulled the smaller girl into an embrace.
Willow hugged her back for a minute before brushing her hand across her eyes. “You look really beautiful. I love watching you and you look so happy. It makes me happy to see you happy, you know?”
Tara nodded giving the redhead a look of absolute understanding: “Believe me, I know the feeling. It’s like watching you work on your computer or talking about your friends in Sunnydale and your adventures. I love seeing you happy.” Hugging Willow, she continued, “Let me put Chestnut away and we can go on that picnic. I want to ask you something too, ok?”
Having put away her horse, Tara quickly rejoined Willow by the corral and took her hand as they walked towards the woods. “So do you want to eat first or try the spell?” she asked the redhead, allowing Willow to lead them.” As they walked, Tara had become aware immediately that Willow was moving toward the spot where the blonde always did her monthly ritual. As they neared the trees, she wondered how close her girlfriend would come to the exact location.
Willow answered carefully, “well, I really want to do the spell but I think you need to eat something since you were out here working so early and headache yesterday and everything so let’s eat first.” As they reached a bare spot in the middle of a clump of trees, she indicated the ground, “how about here? It’s really pretty and there’s kind of a natural circle.”
Grabbing Willow in a hug, she caught her totally off guard, “you are amazing sweetie.”
Dropping the blanket and picnic bag, Willow was lost, “uh ok. Amazing me. Why? What did I do?”
As Tara began laying out the blanket, she explained: “this is the exact spot where I do my ritual every month. It’s a great and wonderful and beautiful location for magic and harnessing magic energy and renewal. I can’t believe that you sensed it and moved directly to it. Actually, maybe I should start believing things like that.”
“Wow,” Willow responded, “is it too private? Should we move honey?”
Tara grasped Willow’s hand, pulling her to the ground, “no. It’s perfect and now we can share this spot. Let’s eat ok?”
Laying out the lunch, both girls started eating and visiting very lightly about the morning. Suddenly, Willow remembered something important, “Hey, you wanted to ask me something. What? Is it a surprise? A question? What’s up?”
Tara laughed to see Willow’s child come out again. “Well, do you know what this Thursday is?”
“Hmmm. Well, let me see. It’s the day after this Wednesday and the day before Friday? No that probably isn’t it. It’s the first time this month that the date is the product of a 3*3*2. No that isn’t it. It’s six days till we leave for Sunnydale? Well, let me think, maybe it’s that it will be exactly 2 months or 61 days or 1464 hours since our first kiss.” Pausing for a second she finished, “no baby, what is this Thursday?” Of course, it had become harder and harder to understand what Willow was saying as Tara tickled the redhead while she was speaking.
As Willow finally held up her hand to indicate that she needed a break to return to breathing, Tara released her: “Ok, Ms Willow Rosenberg Vixeny Genius. Yes, this Thursday is our two month anniversary. Will you go out with me on Friday to celebrate?”
Brushing her hand down Tara’s cheek, Willow answered, “Any time, any place with you baby. Have you got something planned or do you want to plan it together?”
Tara kissed the redhead, smiling, “oh I’ve got something planned for us. You will have to trust me a little but I think it will be wonderful, ok?”
Willow lay on her side on the blanket, nodding. “Sure that sounds great. And then Wednesday we leave for your folks and Sunnydale. Are you excited about it?”
Tara thought for a moment before answering: “Well, I’m excited but I’m nervous.”
“Nervous about my meeting your folks you mean?” Willow asked.
Tara answered quickly: “What? No. I mean, no. They’ll l-l-love you as much as I … I mean they’ll love you and I’ll love h-h-having you there. I’m nervous about meeting your f-f-friends. I mean I know you’re excited to have me there. But you have a history with them and everything and you’ve been through so m-m-much. I mean, your best friend is the slayer. THE V-v-vampire Slayer. And Xander’s been your best friend forever and you know slayers and vampires and werewolves. Like on a f-f-first-name basis.
And I feel a little out-of-the loop on the whole thing. I mean are they f-f-friendly to witches? And I don’t understand about Buffy’s b-b-boyfriend. Here’s what I’ve gleaned. He was her boyfriend. He killed your fish, he killed J-j-jenny, you cursed him, Buffy killed him? I feel like there are big holes in my knowledge and what if I say the wrong thing or do the wrong thing or something? Or remind Buffy of this guy she loved and had to kill and maybe she m-m-misses him now?”
Willow sat up cross-legged on the blanket indicating that Tara should lay down with her head in the redhead’s lap. “Wow, I’m sorry that my story hasn’t made more sense. Would it help if I explained the thing with Angel better?” As she talked, she started running her fingers through the blonde’s hair.
As Tara nodded, Willow began speaking: “Ok. Wow, this is a kind of long story but I’ll try to readers digest it. Too bad we weren’t on a TV show and I could just show you the DVD but instead I’ll try to explain what last year was like.
Buffy and Angel were an item from our sophomore year. He’s a vampire and over 200 years old. From what Giles says, he was a particularly evil and sadistic vampire and had two good vampire friends: Spike and Drusilla. Spike’s a real jerk and Drusilla is a total nutcase. About 80 years ago, he was cursed with his soul. Since then, he’s been a basically ‘good’ vampire, not feeding on humans or anything. But the curse had a catch: one moment of pure happiness and he looses his soul. Dumb curse huh? Sure dumb curse.
On Buffy’s 17th birthday they made love for the first time. It was really special for her because it was her first and everything. Only guess what? He lost his soul at that moment and returned to being the same sadistic evil vampire he used to be. Well, it turns out that Jenny was from the clan that cursed him originally and was sent to Sunnydale to watch him. She failed and he lost his soul. He tried to kill all of us of course. With Jenny, he succeeded. He didn’t want her to re-curse him. But she found the curse before she died and I found it in her computer stuff.
So he tormented Buffy throughout the year. Drusilla killed Kendra and then he got this big Kafla monster thing that he was going to use to end the world. Well, I tried to curse him and failed but Buffy succeeded in killing him. The world didn’t end but she was so heartbroken that she ran away.
Questions? Comments?”
Tara responded thoughtfully, “hmmm, not a ringing endorsement for making love is it?”
Willow playfully tousled Tara’s hair, “well that’s a radical interpretation of the text. I mean nothing wrong with making love. I mean uh, ok, foot in mouth now. Ok, let’s interpret like this: not a good idea to make love with a vampire who is cursed with a soul?”
Sitting up to look Willow in the eye, Tara placed her hands gently on the redhead’s cheeks: “No sweetie, nothing wrong with making love.” She waited a moment to ensure that Willow got what she was saying before kissing her gently. Pulling back she asked, “so what now? Is Buffy dating someone else or just single or what?”
Willow thought for a moment before answering, “well, I guess she’s just single. She talks about hanging out with Xander and with Faith and about the slayage but hasn’t mentioned another guy. She had a few dates with a cute guy from school, Scott, but that wasn’t anything. So I guess once burned, you know?”
Tara nodded, laying her head in Willow’s lap once again, “Yeah. I can understand that. Plus which it sounds like she really loved him so it’s probably really hard to compete with that, you know? But are you nervous about my meeting your friends?”
Resuming playing with the blonde’s hair, Willow smiled, “Not at all. As you said, I know they’ll love you as much as I, uh, hey, how about that spell?”
“Yes that spell,” Tara agreed, but not before kissing her girlfriend deeply. They drew back to lock blue eyes on green, both aware of the words neither had completed but that were so obviously true.
Willow pulled the spell ingredients from her bag: powders and herbs, 2 crystals, and a rose. As she pulled the last item from the bag, she held it out to Tara, “I didn’t know if this would work well for a focus.”
Tara took from the redhead the stone she had given her for her birthday, “Oh sweetie, that’s a great idea. I’m not sure it can hold the focus right now but if we tie it in, we can infuse it over a few spells.”
The two women worked together to lay out the ingredients. As they checked and rechecked their work, both agreed that it was ready. Linking hands over the rose, they locked eyes and began to synchronize their breathing. They had barely touched when both girls felt a power rush through them. At first, Willow felt scared by the feeling, by the intensity. It was almost like when she cursed Angel, but she quickly identified a different feeling to this magic: lightness.
Willow concentrated on the energy and the power as it rushed through her body and soul. It quickened her breath and made her skin tingle. She started to sweat as she could feel the closeness and connection with Tara and her magic. Every part of her body felt attuned to blonde and their shared magic.
Again, Tara was not surprised at the strength of their connection during the spell. In the short time since the fire-starting spell, it was obvious that Willow had been reading the book and harnessing her energy. Her energy was much stronger and the power of the curse energy was receding. The blonde could feel Willow’s energy coursing through her body and soul. The redhead was totally open, allowing Tara access to every energy center in her body. Tara felt her body’s unmistakable responses as her skin hummed with arousal and her nipples stood at attention.
Willow began to pull softly at Tara’s energy, attempting to get the blonde to share it more evenly. Finding resistance, she responded by pouring her energy more fully into the spell and the connection. As she did, she moved to another energy level within the blonde and finding that level completely open, she moved swiftly to fill the space. Their energy forms locked together tightly in a perfect synchronization.
As Willow first moved her energy seeking, Tara could not believe that the redhead had that much instinctual knowledge. But, feeling the locked energy, she understood that neither woman needed guidance. They needed no guidance to understand how their energy merged, how they fit together. Understanding the perfection of their connection, she opened herself fully, pulling Willow’s energy into her soul while pressing hers deeply into the redhead.
The increased energy flow took over both women’s bodies as they allowed the power to flow through and over them in waves. Tightening their hands, they felt the final explosion simultaneously and shared the waves of continuing pleasure.
Tara opened her eyes to take in Willow’s dazed ones staring back at her. Glancing down, she noted the rose petals arranged in a heart shape between them with the rose stem forming an arrow through the heart. “Um wow,” she gasped.
As Willow tried to control her breathing she tried to answer, “Uh, wow. Uh, I mean look at the rose. Beautiful.” Releasing Tara’s hand to brush hers down the blonde’s face she stared into her blue eyes: “That was beautiful my love.” Her words were almost cut off by Tara’s mouth on hers, desperately seeking a continuation of the connection they had just ended.
