Part 44

"Another family meeting?" Summer questioned as she flopped onto the sofa in the family room, "we just had one two days ago."

"That one was to name the choices where we all want to go on vacation, tonight we're deciding," Soleil said rolling her eyes at Summer, who in turn smacked her on the back of the head. "Momma," Soleil said as she teared up and ran towards Tara as she and Willow came into the room.

"What's wrong, Sweetie?" Tara asked picking her up.

"Summer hit me."

"I did not," Summer retorted.

"Yes, you did," Harris smirked, sticking up for her little sister as usual, "we all saw you."

"Summer," Willow said sternly, "After this meeting I want you to go to your room, we need to talk."

"Fine," Summer said folding her arms over her chest, and glaring over at Soleil for tattling on her.

"Can we pick the trip now?" Soleil asked drying her eyes and smiling at her mothers, satisfied that Summer would be punished.

"Yes," Tara said sitting her daughter down, and taking the box from Willow's hands.

"Rhiannon, Sweetie, it's your turn to pick out an envelope," Willow said smiling brightly at her youngest daughter as Tara held the box down low.

"Here Mommy," Rhiannon said proudly, handing Willow the envelope she chose.

"Where are we going?" Tara asked smiling brightly.

"We are going on a fun family vacation to...," Willow said excitedly, ripping open the envelope, "Lake Tahoe."

"Is this going to be like last summer's trip to the Grand Canyon, where we watched slides of it all day, and slept downstairs in tents?" Jesse asked smiling sarcastically.

"Nooo," Willow smirked. "We're really going this time."

"Okay, so it's November and we take trips in July, that gives us like seven and a half months to pack, I'm not sure that's gonna be enough time," Summer said rolling her eyes sarcastically, clearly annoyed with the whole meeting.

"We're going next month," Tara clarified.

"We are?" Willow asked turning to her wife.

"We are," Tara said looking at Willow.

"Why are we going next month?" Harris asked.

"I thought it would be nice to go in the winter so we'd have a chance to do all the fun things we don't get to do here, you know... like play in the snow," Tara smiled.

"There's gonna be snow?" Soleil asked excitedly.

"Real snow?" Rupert asked.

"Yes, real snow, and lots of it," Tara said smiling, glad that the kids were into the idea.

"Am I the only one who knows that real snow, means real cold?" Jesse asked, less than enthused about the idea.

"But real cold, means new clothes," Harris pointed out.

"Okay, complaint withdrawn," Jesse said smiling already mentally planning her shopping trip.

"Can we snowboard?" Summer asked.

"Sure," Willow said finally getting into the idea herself as she pictured sitting in front of a roaring fire with Tara.

"We can build a snowman," Mitchell said to Rupert.

"Yeah," Soleil said joining the boys.

"Not you, us," Rupert said pointing to himself and Mitchell.

"I'll help you build one," Summer said picking up her little sister, in an attempt to smooth over the trouble she caused earlier.

"A big one?" Soleil asked, not quite ready to forgive and forget.

"The biggest," Summer said grinning.

"Okay," Soleil said hugging her.

"So we're all in agreement, that Lake Tahoe next month is a good trip?" Willow asked.

"Yep," Jesse said standing up. "Meetings over right? I have to call Alex and tell him."

"Yes, meeting's over," Tara said smiling.

"Summer," Willow said as her daughter turned on the televison, "to your room."

"Don't punish her," Soleil said looking at Willow pleadingly. "We're going to watch some educational programming."

"The educational programming will have to wait," Willow said motioning for Summer to go to her room.

"I'll watch with you," Tara said to Soleil and Rhiannon as they sadly watched their big sister go out the door with their Mommy.

"It's not the same," Soleil sighed.

"I'm not fun?" Tara asked frowning.

"You're fun, Momma," Rhiannon said running over and snuggling into her.

"Yeah, lots and lots of fun," Soleil said, "Will you float something for us?"

"Momma," Jesse yelled running down the stairs.

"What?" Tara asked, a slight panic in her voice.

"We have trouble, Aunt Anya is on her way over, and she is mad," Jesse said in a worried tone.

"Why?" Tara asked.

"Our vacation," Jesse said, "you didn't invite them."

"We just barely found out two minutes ago..." Tara said, knowing that this would not be pleasant. "Quick girls hide all the bunnies," Tara instructed as she rushed around the family room. There was no need to aggrevate Anya anymore by having stuffed bunnies everywhere. As they were throwing the last of the bunnies into the over stuffed toy chest they heard the front door slam shut.

"TARA!!!!"

"In here, Anya," Tara called back in what she hoped was a calm voice. Jesse grabbed a hold of Soleil and Rhiannon and made a mad dash for the stairs.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Anya demanded as she stormed into the family room.

"Anya! We only just decided, I was going to invite you all tomorrow, I promise," Tara said apologetically.

"I have to find out second hand from my son, that my best friend is going on a nice little family vacation that we aren't invited on," Anya said, still mad.

"I was going to invite you," Tara stated again.

"We're going off and having loads of fun leaving you in Sunnydale to hide from the vampires and demons, hope you don't get killed while we're gone," Anya continued.

"Anya," Tara said placing her hands on her shoulders, "Do you want to come to Lake Tahoe with us next month?" Tara asked.

"It's about time you invited us," Anya smiled.

"So are you coming?" Tara asked relieved that Anya wasn't really mad at her.

"Of course we're coming," Anya said sitting down on the sofa. "The boys have never seen snow before."

"The kids are so excited," Tara said sitting next to her best friend.

"I'm so excited," Anya exclaimed. "Sex in front of a fireplace."

"Mmmmm," Tara said closing her eyes for a moment getting lost in the image of the fire light playing off Willow's red hair.

"You aren't going to have time for that, you'll be watching the kids so Xander and I can," Anya stated.

"Actually the lodge I checked out has baby sitting services, plus I think we can leave Jesse and Alex in charge for a little while," Tara winked.

"So what are our accommodations like?" Anya asked.

"We're going to be renting cabins," Tara said. "They have all different sizes and we're getting a three bedroom one, the kids are gonna be pretty cramped in, but we can't afford anything bigger."

"We'll need to get our own cabin then," Anya said.

"The master bedrooms have their own fireplaces in them," Tara said waggling her eyebrows.

"Goodie," Anya said clapping her hands enthusiastically.

"Hey, Tara," Willow said coming into the room, "since Xander and Anya are going, I called Buffy and Dawnie and invited them too, it looks like it's going to be a very Scooby vacation," Willow said laughing.

"Are we supposed to book everything for everyone or are they getting their own stuff?" Tara asked hoping for the latter.

"You're going to arrange it all," Anya said smiling.

"She's right, I kinda volunteered us," Willow said.

"I'm just glad you didn't kinda volunteer me," Tara said smiling to let Willow know it was okay.

"I'll go make the reseravations now," Willow said excitedly. This was going to be the best trip ever. The whole family would be there, with the exception of Giles and Joyce who had decided they were due to spend some quiet time together at home. She had been disappointed to hear of their decision when she called them after speaking with Buffy and Dawn, but it was probably best for somebody to stay home and look after things. She smiled to herself as she thought about the kids getting to experience snow for the first time, and hopefully she would get some alone time with Tara. Yep, this would be the best vacation ever.

Mainer: Great update, I love the idea of the whole family going on vacation together, very cool. I thought that when Anya came in to yell at Tara for not inviting them was really funny, only she would do that. I really liked it when Summer tried to smoothe things over with Soleil, very sweet. I can't wait to read more.

Part 45

"Rhiannon, come on Sweetie, wake up," Tara gently nudged as she leaned over her youngest daughter's bed.

"I'm sleepy," Rhiannon protested as she turned away from her Momma's voice without opening her eyes.

"I know, baby, but as soon as you get up and tinkle, I promise you can go back to sleep in the car," Tara reasoned as she picked up the sleeping child.

"No Momma," Rhiannon protested again as she tried to wiggle out of her Momma's arms.

"We need to hurry sweetie, everyone's waiting in the cars for us," Tara explained as she gently put Rhiannon down in front of the potty, "Once you tinkle we can leave."

"But, I don't have to go," Rhiannon said in a groggy voice.

"Well, I want you to try," Tara said smiling at her daughter hoping to gain cooperation.

"I can't go," Rhiannon said swinging her legs back and forth as she sat on the potty.

        "Are you trying?" Tara asked.

"I don't know," Rhiannon said, "I've never had to try before."

"What's taking so long?" Jesse asked coming into the bathroom, " Anya asked me to come in and check, we're tired of waiting. Just slap a diaper on her and let's go."

"No! I'm a big girl, I don't need a diaper," Rhiannon said, "See, I'm going."

        "Good," Jesse said walking out.

'I've got to remember to thank her later for that,' Tara thought, "Okay, Sweetie are you ready?"

"All finished," Rhiannon said happily washing her hands, then waiting for her Momma to pick her up and carry her out to the car.

"Is everything all packed?" Tara asked her wife as she strapped Rhiannon into the car seat.

"All the luggage has been dispersed amongst the vehicles, as have the children," Willow smiled, "Let's see Buffy is driving my SUV and she's taking Katey, Harris, and Summer with her, Xander and Anya are taking, Alex, Jesse, and Christopher in their car, We're taking Rupert, Mitchell, Michael, and Rhiannon in the mini van, so that leaves Dawnie and Tyler with Jonah, and Soleil."

        "Who's leading?" Tara asked.

"What's taking so long? Just get in the van and let's get a move on!" Anya hollered out the window.

"Well, Xander says he has an excellent sense of direction, and Anya assures me she can read the map," Willow stated skeptically.

"I guess we're ready then," Tara said climbing into the van, "Are you sure we didn't forget anything?"

"We have all the kids and all the luggage, I shut everything off, Giles is coming over to take care of the animals, and pick up the mail and the newspaper, so yeah we have everything," Willow confirmed, being the last to pull out of the driveway.

"Okay, I hope you're right," Tara said.

"I am," Willow said taking Tara's hand and kissing it lovingly. "Why is my phone ringing?" Tara asked, smiling at Willow, as she picked up the phone.

"It's for you," Tara said laughing and shaking her head.

        "Hi?" Willow said quizzically.

"Hey, Will, just me," Buffy said giggling.

"Buffy, I thought we agreed that these phones are for emergencies," Willow questioned.

"They are! I was just calling to prevent an emergency," Buffy countered.

"What are you talking about, what's the emergency?" Willow asked.

"The girls and I saw you kissing Tara], we just didn't want it to go too far," Buffy said laughing and hanging up.

"She is so immature," Willow said hanging up the phone.

"Oh, that was great," Buffy said turning to Summer who was sitting in the passenger seat.

"I know! Can we do that all the way to Lake Tahoe?" Summer asked laughing.

"I don't see why not," Buffy said smiling. "God, you look just like..."

"I know, I know, I look just like Momma," Summer said finishing the statement, "and Harris looks just like Mom. Everyone tells us that."

"I know it's just that you guys are getting older now, and if you were just a little taller, I would have sworn you were Tara," Buffy grinned.

"I guess it's a good thing I'm nothing like her, or people would think they cloned me," Summer pointed out.

"I wouldn't say you're nothing like her, but yeah you're pretty different," Buffy said, "Harris on the other hand."

"Just like Mom," Summer said smiling, "She's going to go to the special Science and Math high school next year."

"Willow didn't tell me that," Buffy said, slightly puzzled.

"Oh, that's because, she doesn't know yet," Summer winked, "Harris hasn't said anything about wanting to go there yet."

"I'm sure Willow will say yes, she's all big with the science and math," Buffy reasoned.

"No kidding, you should hear those two when they get going. I usually just turn the TV on and try to ignore them, or I go help Momma with something."

"I bet the boys are all over you at school," Buffy said.

"Gross," Summer smirked, "That's Harris's thing, all she talks about are boys."

        "No boyfriend yet?" Buffy asked.

"I don't want a boyfriend, I'm too busy with soccer and school, and boys are stupid," Summer stated matter of factly.

"Does Harris have a boyfriend yet?"

"No, they don't really like her cause she's so smart," Summer sighed as she turned to look back and make sure her twin was still sleeping, "I wish I were smart like her sometimes."

"You're not stupid or anything," Buffy said, "I know, I grade you're English papers."

"I know, I just think it would be cool to be super smart sometimes," Summer said, "but don't tell her I said that."

"I'll take it to the grave."

"Aunt Dawnie, why do they call them highways, when they aren't high? They're on the ground, so they should be called lowways," Soleil half stated and half asked.

"I don't know why they call them highways," Dawn said, smiling at her niece's logic.

"What do those numbers on that sign mean?" Soleil questioned.

"That's tells us how fast we can drive," Dawn answered.

"Do you think there will be animals there?" Soleil asked, excitement filling her voice.

"I'm sure there will be some animals there."

        "Any bears?"

"I don't know," Dawn responded with a trying smile.

"Why do you think they call them bears?" Soleil asked.

"I don't know," Dawn said looking at her husband for some help, but he just smiled at her.

        "Who named the animals?"

"Soleil aren't you tired, it's early," Dawn asked.

"No, I like to wake up early," Soleil said, "Why are some roads curvy and some roads straight?"

"It's just the way they were built," Dawn said shaking her head.

"Xander, I don't think this is the right way," Anya stated

"An honey, you're the one with the map and giving me the directions, I've followed everything you told me to do."

"I know, I'm just saying I think you're wrong," Anya said.

"An, I can't be wrong, I haven't made any decisions," Xander pointed out.

"Yeah, for at least 16 years now," Alex said laughing.

"Alex, enough, we're trying to figure out if we're going the right way," Xander said. "An, let me see the map."

        "You're driving," Anya said.

"I just want to look, tip it up," Xander said, glancing at the map, "Uh, Anya...you're holding the map wrong."

"What do you mean, wrong? How many ways can there be to hold a map?"

"Just one...like this," Xander said turning the map right side up, "Now we're in the wrong place."

"Oh, just pull over, we'll figure it out," Anya smirked.

"Why are we pulling over?" Willow asked.

"I don't know, maybe they forgot something," Tara said smiling.

"What's up?" Willow asked getting out of the van.

"We're 50 miles in the wrong direction," Xander said looking pointedly at Anya.

"Oh sure, blame me," Anya said.

"You had the map," Xander said.

"At least it's only 50 miles," Tara said cheerily, receiving glares from everyone else, "Just trying to look on the bright side."

"There is no bright side," Willow said, "Anya should have never been in charge of the map."

"Oh, and you could have done better?" Anya said moving toward Willow.

"Yeah, I could have, " Willow said advancing toward Anya.

"Ok that's it, let's go, you and me, right now, I've waited almost 20 years to hit you," Anya said putting up her fists.

        "Bring it on," Willow encouraged.

"Hey, come on," Tara said as she restrained Willow, while Xander grabbed Anya and held her back as well.

"Really, you two, the kids can see you," Dawn said trying hard not to laugh, as Buffy made her way behind the cars and burst out laughing, trying to disguise it as a coughing fit.

"Look, I'll take the lead, and Dawn can read the map," Tyler offered.

        "Okay, fine," Willow said relaxing.

        "Fine," Anya said.

"Oh, one more thing before we get going again," Dawn said, "I want to trade a child with someone."

        "Why?" Tara asked.

"Soleil is driving me crazy, she hasn't stopped asking questions since we started," Dawn said. "Why don't we take Mitchell, and you can have Soleil back."

"Because Rupert, Mitchell, and Michael don't want to be separated," Willow reasoned.

"Okay, then we'll take Rhiannon," Dawn tried again.

"She doesn't want to leave Tara," Willow pointed out.

"Oh, I'll take Soleil," Buffy chimed in, "I have room in the SUV."

"Okay, but you don't know what you're getting yourself into," Dawn warned.

"Is everyone settled now?" Tyler asked.

        "Yep, all set," Tara said.

"On the road again," Willow sang, "Just can't wait to get on the road again."

"Wait, I think I need to make a trade too," Tara started.

"Very funny," Willow said as they all got back into their own vehicles, and started on their way again.

Oh, Soleil is almost as bad as I was at her age... :) My family always loved road trips and I spent all of them asking my parents about every single sign, car plates, etc. :p At least, it helped a bit when I tested for my driver's license... ;)

Part 46

"Okay, everyone out," Willow stated, as she parked the van in front of what was to be "Rosenberg-Maclay Central" for the new few days. All four cabins the Scoobies had rented were within walking distance of one another, with Dawn and Tyler's on the left, then Buffy's, then Willow and Tara's, and finally Xander and Anya's on the right. The boys happily piled out of the mini van and into the snow along with the other kids. All of them, including Buffy and Xander had already joined in a massive snowball fight.

"Come on Sweetie," Tara nudged as she tried to coax Rhiannon out of the mini van.

"No," Rhiannon said shaking her head.

"You don't want to get out and play in the snow?" Tara questioned. Before they left Rhiannon had been so excited to see the snow that it was all she talked about.

"No," Rhiannon said, standing bashfully in the open doorway of the minivan.

"Hey baby girl, what's up?" Willow asked, as she came over to the side of the van.

"She won't get out," Tara frowned.

"Mommy, what is the snow made of?" Rhiannon asked, as she crouched down trying to get a better view of the mysterious white powder.

"It's made of water," Willow said, "It's just frozen rain sweetie."

"It won't hurt me?" Rhiannon asked.

"Nope, not all...see," Tara said as she tossed a snowball towards her wife, gently hitting Willow in the back of the head.

"Did it hurt?" Rhiannon asked, still not quite ready to trust the snow.

"Not at all," Willow smiled as she began mischievously eyeing her wife, "Just like this isn't going to hurt Momma," she said, quickly turning and catching Tara off guard and tackling her into the snow.

Rhiannon watched her parents rolling in the snow, smiling and laughing as they took turns tossing the white powder at each other, and finally her curiousity got the better of her. "Wait for me!", she hollered as she jumped from the van and ran to her Mommies, looking them over closely to make sure they were okay. Seeing that their youngest had finally taken the plunge, Willow rolled off of Tara and pulled her little one in for a brief hug, "That's my girl," she proudly stated as the child looked around in wonder, taking in their surroundings.

"What are you doing Momma?" Rhiannon asked when her eyes made their way back to Tara, who was lying flat on her back, moving her arms and legs back and forth.

"I'm making a snow angel," Tara smiled, "Will, help me up, so I can see it."

"How did you do that?" Rhiannon asked in awe.

"What did Momma do?" Soleil said running over, "That's neat."

"Will you teach us how to do that?" Rhiannon asked.

"Of course I will," Tara said smiling at Willow.

"But first, if your last name is Rosenberg-Maclay, please step forward to receive your luggage, then enter cabin number 8 in an orderly fashion",

"No running", Tara chimed in.

"And stay in the living room-- do not go into any bedrooms," Willow instructed.

"Who's sleeping where?" Jesse asked when Willow and Tara finally made their way in with the remaining bags.

"No complaining," Willow began, knowing that despite her warning there was sure to be some complaints. "Jesse, Summer, and Harris, you're going to be staying in this room over here," Willow stated, pointing off to the right. "Mitchell, Rupert, Soleil, and Rhiannon, you four will be in the room over there. Rhiannon and Soleil are going to share the big bed, and you boys are gonna be on the cots. Jesse, Summer, Harris," she continued without taking a breath, "there are two twin beds and a cot in your room, do not fight over who sleeps in the cot, if you have to, you can trade off."

"No fighting, I'll sleep on the cot," Summer volunteered.

"Why?" Jesse asked.

"Cause I don't care," Summer replied, "It's no big deal."

"Where's your room?" Soleil asked.

"Our room is at the top of the stairs, you are not to come in the room unless you knock first and wait for an answer," Willow explained looking at their two youngest children. "This is just like at home, you need to knock first. Got it?"

"Got it," Soleil said smiling.

"Got it," Rhiannon nodded, then began to follow Tara up the stairs.

"Where are you going?" Willow asked her.

"With Momma," Rhiannon smiled, "Don't worry Mommy, I'll knock first."

Tara gave Willow one of her trademark half smiles as she made her way up the stairway, Rhiannon following close behind, leaving Willow both breathless and completely bemused.

"Mommy, can you help me unpack?" Soleil asked, pulling Willow out of the daydream she was slowly forming in her brain.

"Oh, sure, and why don't we take care of Rhiannon's things too while we're at it," Willow said as she grabbed Rhiannon's little Elmo suitcase.

"Why do we have to share with the boys?" Soleil asked.

"Because that's just the way it is," Willow said tipping the suitcase upside down and emptying it out into the bottom drawer.

"Can I do that too?" Soleil asked laughing at her Mommy's technique.

"Sure, we're on vacation, we can be a little messy," Willow grinned as she helped her daughter. Upon making sure the clothes were all crammed in they closed the drawer.

"We don't have enough room for all our clothes," Jesse and Harris stated as they entered the room.

"Make it work," Willow said.

"Mom, we tried to make it work, we gave Summer a drawer, and there was only four left after that, we can't fit all our clothes into two drawers each," Harris said.

"I just fit Soleil's and Rhiannon's clothes into one drawer, I think you can manage with two a piece."

"But we can't," Jesse harped.

"No complaining," Willow said walking out of the room and heading upstairs to check on Tara and Rhiannon.

"Argh, she is so frustrating," Jesse said looking at Harris.

"I'm gonna tell Mommy you swore," Soleil said.

"I did not swear," Jesse said, "I said frustrating, that's not a swear word."

"I'm gonna tell on you, I'm gonna tell on you," Soleil sang dancing around the room.

"Hey Soleil," Summer said, "Are we gonna make a snow man?"

"Yeah!" Soleil shouted as she began jumping up and down.

"MOMMA, WE'RE GOING OUTSIDE," Summer yelled up the stairs.

"Who's we?" Tara asked coming out of the room so she wouldn't have to yell.

"I'm taking Soleil out to build a snow man," Summer said.

"Make sure you put her in boots, her snowsuit, a hat, scarf, and mittens," Tara instructed.

"If I put her in all that, how is she gonna move to build the snow man?" Summer teased.

"I want you in all your winter stuff too," Tara said.

"Can I go too?" Rhiannon asked, peaking her head out from behind her Momma's legs.

"Come on," Summer grinned waiting at the bottom of the stairs.

"She wants something," Willow said coming up behind her wife and wrapping her arms around her waist.

"It would seem that way," Tara said smiling.

"She's been nothing but cooperative and helpful, that can't be good."

"Maybe she's just turned over a new leaf," Tara suggested.

"Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't cost too much," Willow said.

So beautiful. They are an amazing family. I can't wait to see what they do with the rest of their trip.

Is a "Broken Wing" update coming up soon? Hint. Hint.

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.

Willow: I found you. I will always find you.
