Re: Update! Hallowed Nights Chapter 25

Hello Kittens! Below is Chapter 25. Quite a bit of smut and Omius makes an appearance.

Chapter Twenty-Five

The Halloween Ball at the Bronze was pretty much in full swing when they arrived. They marched up to the end of line and joined other partygoers waiting to enter the club. Although muffled, they could hear the thrub of the bass from the live band inside and when they stepped through the doorway, their ears where assailed by loud music. The guitars thrummed and the deep bass from the drums and bass guitar vibrated underneath their feet and up through their bodies. The band on the stage was dressed appropriately for their name, The Zombies.

Jack O’ Lanterns sat on many of the tables, serving as both decoration and a light source. Black lights were hung against the walls, illuminating eerie bright yellow and orange florescent paintings. Swaths of cotton string hung from the ceiling in spider web patterns. A neon hotel vacancy sign sputtered over the bar, and Willow grimaced at the mechanical spiders crawling across the counter. A witches cackle rose over the din and she frowned.

They looked around, taking in the various and not so various costumes that people wore.

“Vampires much?” Buffy quipped, noting that a few people were dressed as the evil demons.

“Maybe people are starting to realize they exist.” Xander replied and Buffy gave him a dry stare. “Look, a Native American, a policeman, and oh, there’s honest Abe!” Xander noted, quickly changing the subject.

“Yeah.” Buffy replied sardonically.

“Oh! There’s Spence. Gotta go. Bye.” Dawn turned and disappeared into the crowd towards her date before Buffy could even open her mouth to reply.

The music changed to a mellow number, and couples began moving onto the dance floor. Willow took Tara’s hand and they walked across the floor to join them keeping the leash slack by taking the lead. Buffy and Xander watched them go before moving to an empty set of seats and sitting down.

Buffy and Xander ordered drinks and watched Willow and Tara dance. Tara’s arms encircled Willow’s neck and the leash to Willow’s collar hung loosely from her gloved hand. Willow had her arms wrapped around the blonde’s waist under the coat and laid her head on Tara’s shoulder. Their bodies moved rhythmically to the mellow music, melding into one another. Buffy and Xander noticed that some people watched the two women dancing intimately. Xander had to admit that they were stunningly sexy.

“You don’t suppose they really dig leather… you know, the whole whips and chains thing?” He asked and Buffy gave him a look.

“Yes, Xander. I’ve heard whips cracking and cries of pain and pleasure coming from their room.” Buffy answered sarcastically. “I think when they were drilling yesterday that they might have been fastening some hooks to the ceiling.”

“Say, again?” Xander said, stunned.

“Never mind.” Buffy patted his knee.

The song ended and Dawn came off the floor with her date. Buffy and Xander shifted their gaze to the young girl curious about her date and they didn’t see Willow and Tara move off the dance floor to the stairs that led to the upper level.

Tara held the leash to Willow’s collar in her hand and Willow followed, eyeing the rear of her lover in front of her as they climbed the stairs. Tara led them to a semi-secluded spot near the railing and Tara wrapped her fingers around the cold steel. She looked down, surveying the party below.

Her breath caught when Willow embraced her from behind, her arms slipping around her waist inside her coat and pulling her in tight. Willow rested her chin on Tara’s shoulder and nuzzled her neck.

“Hmm. This is nice.” Tara commented, laying a gloved hand on Willow’s arm and playfully tugging on the leash to gently pull Willow closer to her.

“You feel nice.” Willow answered and buried her face in Tara’s hair, breathing in the clean smell. All she could think about was how much she loved Tara and hugged her tighter. She lowered her hand and rested it on Tara’s belly. Willow’s heart swelled with love and she closed her eyes. She let the feeling flow through her and on down to the hand that she moved to rest over Tara’s lower abdomen.

Tara felt the sensation and inhaled sharply. It was warm and it seeped slowly from Willow’s hand into her skin. She turned in the circle of Willow’s arms and their eyes met. She saw the love that shone in Willow’s eyes and suddenly the whole world dropped away from them. Willow ran her hand through Tara’s blond hair and they leaned towards one another and kissed. It was gentle at first but then became more demanding, passionate, and sultry. Tara threaded her gloved fingers through Willow’s hair pulling her deeper into her mouth.

Willow dove into Tara’s mouth hungrily. The tips of their tongues touched and played over one another. Willow let out a soft moan. She could feel the burn of her arousal and the heady scent that Tara always wore mixed with the smell of leather. It was all intensely stimulating. Her hands moved from Tara’s hips to her rear from inside the short coat, her fingers gliding over the cool leather, kneading lightly and pushing Tara more firmly against her.

It wasn’t until the song changed to one with a loud incessant beat of bass that they realized they weren’t exactly alone and pulled apart. They looked around at the few people that were seated, but no one was staring openly at them. Willow leaned forward and their foreheads touched.

“Wow. That was nice.” Willow whispered and Tara smiled, her mouth parting and breathing hard.

“I find myself always thinking about you.” Willow pulled back a little to look into Tara’s face. “You’re gorgeous.” She smiled cheekily. “Especially during yummy love.” She remembered how it felt to have Tara’s tongue on her skin, licking up warm chocolate and the blissful look on Tara’s face after her orgasms.

“I am?” Tara gave Willow a lopsided smile that always melted the red heads heart.

“You are.” Willow confirmed with a short nod before leaning in and kissing Tara’s neck with wet lips. Tara moaned and dipped her tongue into the redhead’s ear, caught up in Willow’s desire and she wished that they were at home, making love. Her eyes focused on a more private area of the balcony and she gently pulled Willow’s arms from inside her coat.

Tara smiled at her, tilted her head, and an idea formed. “Come here, sweetie.”

Tara took hold of the leash and led her to a more secluded area on the balcony. With a gloved hand she pushed Willow back against the wall and leaned into her, inserting a leg between Willow’s leather clad ones. Willow looked around briefly before winding her fingers in Tara’s hair. More people were coming up to the balcony, but where Willow and Tara were, back near the rear wall, it was quieter and more secluded.

“No one’s watching.” Willow told her, pleased that they could at least enjoy voracious smoochies in this small section of the balcony that afforded them a great deal of privacy.

“Hmm, good.” Tara pulled down Willow’s hands and clipped the leather wristbands together. Stunned, Willow glanced down at her now manacled wrists.

Tara took the leash and looped it over the clips, connecting them to the leather collar. She captured Willow’s mouth, effectively cutting off any protests. She pushed the edges of Willow’s leather coat aside, slid her fingers into the waistband of Willow’s pants and teased the top button free.

“Tara!” Willow pulled back and her eyes darted around briefly. Doing this in the privacy of one’s bedroom was one thing, but in public… well, she felt some hesitation, but couldn’t deny that her pulse rate increased when Tara made that daring move.

Tara stopped and looked around. “We’re alone, sweetie.” She said and dipped her head, capturing Willow’s mouth again before moving across the red head’s jaw to her ear.

“I would love to see you like this in just chaps and boots.” Tara whispered, her voice thick with desire. “…no vest and no pants underneath.” She slipped an arm under the long leather coat, circling Willow’s waist and shielding Willow’s body with her own. With her other hand, Tara’s fingers deftly pulled down the zipper and she brushed her fingertips over red curls. Willow moaned into her mouth when Tara kissed her again.

“That can be arranged.” Willow breathed against Tara’s lips, forgetting about her hesitancy and where they were for the moment. All she could think about was how good Tara smelled and how gentle her fingers were.

Tara smiled through the kiss and tugged Willow’s pants down slightly with both hands. She slid a gloved finger inside and Willow’s eyes popped open and went wide. She gulped when Tara pulled back, breaking the kiss. Willow arched her back and dug her fingers into her palms when the leather digit rubbed up against her. She looked into Tara’s face and their gazes held. Their faces were flushed and both were already breathing hard. Willow wanted so badly to rake her fingers through the blonde hair, but her bound hands prevented her from doing so and Tara’s body had her pinned against the wall. All she could do was receive the pleasure that Tara was giving her, and she did so gladly. Tara withdrew her finger, gliding it back across her clit, making Willow thrust her hips outward, and brought it up to her lips. It glistened wetly and Willow’s eyes widened even more when Tara inserted the finger into her mouth. Willow finally blinked and gulped again.

Tara couldn’t believe what she was doing. It was as if another part of her awoke and took over. She swirled her tongue over her gloved finger, tasting the mixture of Willow’s essence and the leather from her glove. She looked into Willow’s eyes, and saw her own hunger smoldering there. Smiling, Tara took her finger and trailed it down over Willow’s lips before leaning down and kissing her. Tara zipped Willow’s pants back up and slipped the button back through the button hole. Willow whimpered in disappointment.

“Just a preview of what’s to come baby,” Tara whispered and kissed her lightly on the lips.

Down below, Dawn and her date wove through the crowd and made their way to where Buffy and Xander where sitting, sipping on drinks.

“Guys, this is Spence.” Dawn introduced the young man standing next to her. He wore a gladiator costume over an athletic frame, his curly blonde streaked hair hung down over one side of his face and a pair of light blue eyes blinked at them. He held a gladiator helmet in the crook of a muscular arm.

“Spence, This is Xander and my sister, Buffy.” She introduced him. “Where’s Anya? And where did Willow and Tara disappear to?” She asked and they looked around.

A dark prince entered the club and steered the woman at his side towards the bar. Pulling his black cloak tighter about himself, he ordered a drink and handed the glass over to his companion. As she drank the contents, his eyes scanned over the crowd and rested on Buffy, chatting amiably with her sister. He continued scanning the crowd, not seeing what he was looking for, but sensing it instead. His eyes roamed upwards towards the balcony and his lip curled.

“There you are.” He hissed softly to himself.

Across the room, Xander spotted the vampire at the bar and leaned in towards Buffy.

“I don’t believe this.” Xander exclaimed.

“What?” Buffy asked.

“Dracula.” He stated.

“What about him… them…?” Buffy swung her head around.

“Buff…” His face changed and he swallowed. Sensing his distress, Buffy followed his line of sight.

“That’s him.” Xander stated and they stared at the figure who looked for all the world exactly like the count who turned Xander into a bug eating minion and almost seduced Buffy into joining him in his dark world.

“So, he’s back.” Buffy sighed, recognizing him and knowing that there seemed to be no way of dealing with him forever.

“He’s the real deal?” Dawn asked, stunned.

“It’s always real.” Buffy reminded her.

“That’s Dracula? He’s…” Dawn whispered.

“Dead.” Buffy cut in.

“Wow. Charismatic and handsome. I can see why you fell for…” Dawn continued.

“Zip it little kitty.” Buffy said, stepping in front of Dawn and Xander when the Count approached, an attractive woman by his side. Buffy gave the woman a cursory glance, noticing her likeness to Morticia from the Adams Family. The Count stopped and a brief silence fell between them.

Up on the balcony, Willow’s body stiffened and Tara pulled back when she sensed the sudden change in her lover’s demeanor.

“What is it? Did I do something…?” Tara asked.

“No… no. Not you. Something not right. I feel…” Willow slipped from the wall, made her way to the railing and Tara followed her, giving the leash slack. Together they looked down and saw someone walking towards Buffy, Dawn and Xander. When the figure approached, Buffy stepped in front of her friend and sister, and Willow and Tara knew something was wrong.

“He doesn’t belong here.” Willow whispered and Tara glanced at her sharply. Willow turned towards the stairs and she followed, trotting down the steps and into the crowd.

Omius stroked the hand on his arm absently while gazing at the slayer. He was amused when Buffy protectively stepped in front of her friends. Suddenly Omius morphed into his demon form, his red and black speckled skin glistening purple under the club’s dim florescent lights. The woman didn’t have time to notice the change in his features before he unfurled a hand and wrapped it around her throat. She gasped and clawed, and the rising blood from the deep gashes caused by his talons seeped out from between his fingers. Just as Buffy moved in to help, he bit into the woman’s neck, sucking on the bloodied welts. Instinctively, Buffy stopped, stunned by what she just saw. Omius lifted his head, his lips and teeth stained red and kissed the woman. He probed her mouth open with his tongue and released another piece of his dark soul. He pulled back and after a brief glance over his shoulder at Willow and Tara coming down the stairs, he turned his gaze to Buffy. His mouth curled into a cruel smile and then he spoke.

“Slayer, hear me, and hear me well.” He propped the unconscious woman tight against the side of his body.

“Tomorrow, you and the witch will meet my Master.” He said.

Suddenly the woman shifted, changing into demon form. She opened her eyes, looked up at Omius and then at Buffy. Her yellow eyes were dead, yet they were hot like the sun and shone like liquid gold.

“The Master? But he’s dead. Right?” Xander asked, looking quickly at Buffy and the demon laughed at him.

“What? You thought there was only one?” he laughed. “There are many Masters, human.” He said sarcastically.

“I like her.” The woman said, moving away from Omius and walking towards Buffy. Before she could take more that a few steps, Omius caught her by the hand. A cold chill ran up Buffy’s spine when her gaze met his. His eyes were golden also, but flecked with red and the irises were narrow like that of a feline.

“No child, not here.” He said and curled an arm around her waist, pulling her back against his side.

“But, I’m hungry.” She glanced around. “And look at all the yummies.” Her arm snaked up and she caressed his face with lazy strokes from her fingers.

“We must go.” The demon said and lifted his arm. Buffy stumbled backwards, as if pushed by an invisible hand, and Xander caught her. The demons winked out of sight just as Willow and Tara came running up.

“Buffy! Are you okay?” Willow asked, laying her hands on her friends arms and helping her stand back up.

“Hello, Will. We were wondering what happened to you.” Xander said, his eyes pausing at her bound hands.

“Sorry, I was a little…” Willow stuttered and held her hands out to Tara.

“…tied up.” Buffy finished and Willow turned several shades pinker than she already was and laughed nervously. Tara quickly undid the bind, freeing Willow’s hands and then removed the leash from Willow’s collar.

“Okay, what was that?” Spence asked, finally finding his voice, and backing away from the group.

“Oh, that? He was just… doing an act.” Dawn improvised and looked at Buffy for help.

“Yeah… you know, magic. Like in a disappearing act. See that all the time as a matter of fact.” Buffy added and grimaced at her babbling.

“Right. Nothing to worry about.” Dawn gave Buffy a hard stare before turning back to her date. “Hey, a song. Let’s dance.” Dawn took his hand and hurriedly led him away to the dance floor.

Oh my. Vixeny Tara.

I presume Omius deliberately brought the woman to give a performance to Buffy. Still wondering what it is his master wants from Buffy and Willow.

Great chapter. Thanks.

The next few chapters should bring us into the world of the master and then...drumroll... Tara delivers on her promise (you do remember what she promised Willow, don't you?) :)

Hello Kittens! I'm posting a bit early since I just remembered that I promised my other half that I'd be in the garden early doing some tillin'.

We're going to delve more into the badness, find out more about Omius and the Master. What do they want from Buffy and Willow?

I kind of cheated though. I loved the Mayor in season 3 so I kind of 'borrowed' his personality. Every time he showed up in an episode, the same set of words always escaped from my lips; "uh, oh."

Chapter Twenty-Six

The group gathered around Willow’s laptop on Buffy’s dining room table and watched Dawn navigate her way through the Internet under Willow’s trained eye. Dawn had found, by accident, a site that hosted a database on supernatural creatures and occurrences, but couldn’t get into the classified section that had detailed information. Willow had spent the past hour hacking her way into the system and now they were officially inside, surfing through several pages of directories.

“That was the shortest Halloween party I’ve ever been to.” Dawn said. Okay so technically it was the first ‘real’ one too. But she remembered longer ones than that.

“Don’t worry, sweetie, he’ll call.” Tara consoled the dejected teen.

“I doubt it. Spence is probably telling his friends all about the weirdness he saw tonight.” Dawn replied and sighed.

Willow exchanged a teasing glance with Tara, her mind replaying the scene on the balcony of the bronze and the looks on everyone’s faces before Tara untied the leash and unhooked the wristbands on her wrists. She bit down on her lip to suppress the widening grin before shifting her gaze back to the computer screen.

“There! That one!” Willow pointed to an object on the screen, and Dawn clicked on it with the mouse. Willow could have done this herself, but Dawn took the initiative insisting that she wanted Willow to guide her and teach her the in’s and out’s of the web.

The screen went dark and then another page appeared, listing demons alphabetically with thumbnail pictures. After flipping through a few pages, Willow found what she was looking for.

“Stop! There.” Willow pointed again and Dawn selected the item with the mouse. A new page appeared, complete with text and pictures. Willow turned the laptop towards Buffy.

“Yeah, that’s him.” The Slayer acknowledged.

“Interesting.” Willow chewed on her lower lip and then shared a smile with Tara who placed her hand on Willow’s thigh under the table, her fingers tracing a circling pattern over the leather.

“That’s a Zeroth demon.” Anya said, still in her bunny costume. “They have some interesting powers like the ability to fly, but they don’t bite people.” She clasped her fuzzy bunny hands. “They’re also speed demons.” She added as an afterthought.

Everyone turned to stare and she clucked her tongue in exasperation. “Like with feet, not drugs.”

“They don’t suck blood, either.” Willow said after reading the entry.

“So, what is this thing?” Xander asked, wiping the last smudges of Halloween makeup from his face with a moist rag.

“I’ve seen them before, in a dream.” Buffy said softly, wrapping her arms around herself.

“You saw them in one of your Slayer dreams?” Willow asked and Buffy met her gaze before nodding.

“Yes, but I thought they were, you know…just vampires.” She paused. “And then I turned into one.” Buffy shrugged.

“Whoa!” Xander breathed.

Tara spoke up. “Maybe there was a mutation of some kind.”

“You mean like in a mad scientist way?” Xander asked.

“No.” Spike said, startling everyone by his sudden presence at the doorway. He had entered the house so quietly, no one heard him. “With Dracula,” he added and stepped further into the room.

“That makes sense.” Tara agreed.

“How do you explain the ‘Buffy turning into a Vampire’ thing?” Xander wanted to know.

“Now, that was interesting.” Spike said, cocking his head amusedly at Buffy.

“It was a dream. It’s a thing.” She replied stiffly.

“It’s what she fears most.” Dawn added. She looked at her sister with empathy and Spike raised an inquisitive brow.

“Actually, that’s what gave Tara the idea of mutation.” Willow said and paused briefly, gathering her thoughts. “I’m not exactly sure how he did it, but I’m thinking maybe he found a way to alter them genetically.”

Willow paused again and everyone stared waiting for the science that was to come.

“Uh, the use of genetically modified demons would provide him with some incredibly powerful warriors. In this case, there would be no need to build vessels, since the hemoglobin would be produced in situ, in the human body directly…” Willow stopped mid-sentence when Buffy interrupted.

“Uh, in English if you will, Will.” Buffy said speaking for all of them rather than have to try to understand Willow’s scientific explanation.

“You mean with his blood, right, sweetie?” Tara offered as a way to dissect the babble.

“Right. All he needed was to find one or two genomes that would create a new kind of demon, a kind of spawn.” Willow explained.

“That’s true.” Anya confirmed. “I can name several that were created in this manner.”

“But the Prince of Darkness isn’t a scientist. He had help.” Buffy commented and Willow nodded, agreeing.

“He’d need a molecular biology laboratory for the identification of genes, construction of the expression cassette, cloning techniques and for the genetic transformation. There aren’t very many amateur or professional genetic scientists. We could investigate…” Willow was interrupted.

“Um… guys, I think I found him.” Dawn had been clicking her way around on the computer.

“Wow. She’s good.” Buffy commented.

“That’s ‘cause she learned from the best.” Willow said and smiled, puffing out her chest a little with pride.

“This was from last Tuesday’s paper. A well known geneticist, Dr. Amos Kendall, was found dead at his home. The cause of death was inconclusive.” Dawn read from the screen.

“Of course.” Buffy said dryly. “He served his purpose.”

“But wait!” Dawn said. “Two days later, his body went missing from the morgue.”

“Looks like the living dead got a new member.” Xander said.

“You said that they want you and Willow, right?” Tara asked changing the topic. At their nods she continued, “Buffy is the Slayer and she has power over all things evil.” She turned her attention to Willow. “Willow is a powerful witch, and has power over all things magical.”

“And the reason they want the two of them is…?” Xander prompted.

“Maybe for a ritual of some sort?” Dawn surmised.

“Um… breeding?” Xander threw in and got several dry looks.

“Not if I can help it.” Buffy said.

“And they need Buffy and Willow for…?” Dawn ignored him and brought them back to the puzzle they were trying to solve.

“Their blood. The power is in their blood.” Spike answered and the room went eerily quiet. “It’s always about blood and about power.” His eyes softened, glancing between Dawn and Buffy who narrowed her eyes when his gaze rested on hers.

“I’m not liking this,” Xander said.

“Me neither. What do we do?” Dawn asked.

“Give them what they want.” Buffy said simply.

ally;

Sorry your up for manual labor tomorrow, but I'm glad you were able to get an update in :grin

Kinda cute that Dawn is becoming useful, and in a nerd-ish way(nerd-ish a word?)

Nice to see Buffy "thinks" she has a plan, which I'm sure you will make hit a snag or 2. ;)

Update! Hallowed Nights Chapter 27 & 28

Postby allyson12 » Mon Oct 21, 2002 4:35 am

barnabasvamp - I ended up not doing any tilling, well, you know what I mean. It rained way too much and I was not about to slop around in the mud. Yuk. I know what you're thinking (mud wrestling, huh?). Another time, another place, another story, sweetie.

mollyig - Oh, the scoobs only have the barest of ideas what the Master has in mind for Buffy and Willow.

Katharyn - Thank you for beta reading this. And thanks for catching some of the loopholes!

Chapter Twenty-Seven

The events that transpired over the last few hours having shut down any interest in continuing their sexual exploration at least for the time being, Willow and Tara exchanged their leather costumes for cotton and silk pajamas, and then prepared for bed.

Tara had just finished brushing her hair and looking into the mirror one last time, she swept the long tresses back over her shoulder. She walked over to the bed but paused before throwing back the covers.

“Will?” she asked.

Willow was tugging her own nightshirt down and walking towards the bed.

“Hmm?” Willow answered, her voice muffled slightly by the material.

“Do you have any idea what Buffy’s going to do?” Tara asked before folding down the covers and climbing in just before Willow. She settled herself against her pillow and straightened the covers over them before looking over at the inquisitive green eyes staring back at her.

“No.” Willow paused and clasped Tara’s hand. “I don’t think she has a plan yet.”

Tara was about to reply but both of them suddenly stiffened, becoming aware of magic in the air.

“Oh, no.” Willow whispered. It was same dark presence she’d felt that night after she arrived home. She glanced at Tara and the hair on their scalps nearly stood on end.

“This is bad.” Tara whispered.

There was a loud noise at the window and their heads swung towards it. They jumped out of bed and Willow ran to Tara’s side. Tara moved into Willow arms and felt them circling protectively around her. Willow quickly backed them away from the windows and towards the door. They saw something dark and slimy, much like a sting ray, attach itself to the glass like a suction cup. What bothered them were the small rows of very sharp teeth inside what may have been its mouth. It made a wet sound when it slid down the slick surface of the glass before flying away. Their expressions turned to alarm when they realized that these creatures were attacking the house, trying to get inside and this spurred them into action.

“Buffy!” Willow said with a touch of panic to her voice.

“Dawn!” Tara added, her voice high with worry.

They raced out to the hall and nearly collided with Buffy and Dawn who had come from their own rooms to investigate the noises.

“What the hell are these?” Buffy said angrily, looking around as more and more of the dark creatures hurled themselves against the windows of Buffy’s house. She held up one of the creatures, now dead, with her fingers.

“Uh!” They exclaimed and backed away from her.

“It flew in and tried to use me for a midnight snack.” She released it and it thudded to the floor.

“Did you close the window?” Willow asked.

“Yeah, right down on the next one that tried to get in.” she answered and they all made faces at the visual image.

“What was that disgusting noise?” Dawn asked and then looked over at Buffy. “Did you just let one go?” She asked and Buffy gave her a look.

“Basement now. Explain later.” Willow instructed and shoved them after Tara towards the basement door.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

“Dark magick.” Tara whispered quietly to Willow who was watching Buffy and Dawn rummage through a chest at the opposite end of the basement.

“I know,” Willow whispered back. She turned her head and saw the fear in her partner’s eyes. “Tara, I need you. We can fight this, but I need your help.” Willow reached out and laid her hand softly on Tara’s arm.

As Willow did that Tara could feel the first tingling of power from Willow’s hand and it wasn’t dark magick. It was something else, something different. It was natural and it felt good.

“I’m not strong enough.” Willow cut in.

“Willow, you are strong enough. More so than me.” Tara insisted. “Your power is incredibly strong.”

Willow smiled and gazed into Tara’s soft blue eyes. “I need you.”

Tara nodded. “Okay.” The fear was replaced by a sudden surge in confidence. It pleased her that Willow both needed and wanted her. She remembered a time when that wasn’t the case. She was miserable and Willow was miserable, but it all worked out in the end. From that experience, she knew that they would get through this, they would defeat the evil that was rising.

“Okay.” Willow repeated. She gave Tara a grateful smile, squeezing her hand before taking it in hers and leading her to where Buffy and Dawn were.

“They might be night creatures. What about light?” Dawn said and turned on the light that hung over the workbench. She tilted it so that it shone directly out the window on one of the entities. With a horrifying screech, the creature flew away.

“They don’t like light, jeez.” Buffy rolled her eyes, disgusted with herself for not thinking of it earlier.

“Vampire bats?” Dawn asked.

“No. These creatures were created,” Tara replied and met Willow’s serious gaze.

“Well, whatever they are, they’re definitely annoying.” Buffy said.

“And not very smart.” Willow added.

Upstairs the creatures continued thudding against the windows, some were able to break through the glass and enter the house.

“Okay, that’s it.” Buffy said and started to rise from her crouched position.

“Buffy, wait!” Willow said and grasped her arm, stopping her. “There’s too many up there, even for you.”

“Tara and I will get rid of them.” Willow looked at the slayer meaningfully.

Buffy glanced from Willow to Tara in understanding and nodded.

“Okay, Dawn, grab that trash can lid and use that to keep the creatures away.” She paused and looked around while her sister picked up the lid and slipped her hand through the handle, holding it against her body like a shield.

They made their way up the steps and paused at the basement door. They could hear glass from the windows breaking and the shards tinkling across the floor.

“Are we ready?” Buffy asked.

At their nods, she opened the door and they charged into the living room. The flying beasts screamed and swarmed down on them. Dawn and Buffy fended off the creatures, forming a human shield in front of Willow and Tara.

Tara could feel her power surging and it sang to her. Panting slightly, she looked over at Willow. Both women were breathing hard and when their gazes locked, they clasped the other’s hand. There was an audible snap and the house was infused with brilliant light. Buffy and Dawn raised their arms to shield their eyes against the glare and the flying creatures screeched and thudded against objects in their haste to flee. Some escaped, but some, exposed to the light for too long, simply burned up and their hot ashes fluttered to the floor into a pile of dust.

Willow and Tara opened their eyes and the bright light waned. Buffy and Dawn lowered their arms and gazed around, noting the piles of ashes. Dawn glanced at the two witches, their hands still clasped.

Willow and Tara’s faces shone with a light sheen of perspiration and they were both breathing hard.

Suddenly, Willow gasped, and Tara involuntarily flinched. A vision of Xander running through his apartment floated in front of Willow’s eyes. Before he could get to safety, a creature, similar to the ones attacking them, landed on the carpenter’s back and he went down.

“Xander!” Willow cried out. Her hands reached out but grasped only empty air. Her knees buckled, her body fell backwards and she tumbled back down the stairs.

“Willow!” Tara cried out.

Those things that were attacking the house sound gruesome - nice work!

Willow's statement that she needed Tara's help; perhaps she did have the magic necessary, but, like Tara, I took it to be a good sign of Willow's responsible attitude towards magic.

I agree...those creatures....ew! But I like the idea of Willow teaching Dawn to do research, and I thought it was fitting that Willow instinctively worried about Buffy while Tara instinctively worried about Dawn. Willow definitely has a struggle here, both with the dark magic and with keeping up with this totally uninhibited version of Tara! :wink

OMG,Ally- I can't believe you read my mind *cough mud- wrestling cough* I'm sooo transparent :blush *runs off to look for another story ;) *

Ahem.....Are we to assume that these bat like creatures were created to enter the house, because the big bad really can't get in through the protect spell? Well done.

Interesting that Willow felt she needed Tara's help, and to Tara the magic felt different.

There is a tiny problem with the update... I have not seen the final version of it yet... so you guys have no chance*S*

This is great Allyson. You have the kittens hopping for an update which is always a great place to be as a writer. Whether it is the smut or the action you always seem to manage to do that to them.

Which makes it even more kinda fun knowing (some of) what is coming.

Those last couple of parts gave me unbelievably conflicting images. First, you got Willow and Tara up in the balcony with the leather and the cuffs and then those gross bat-like things coming into the house. Ewww. I'm thinking I'll keep the former images in my head until the next update.

Great story.

Update! Hallowed Nights Chapter 29 & 30

Postby allyson12 » Wed Oct 23, 2002 6:14 am

snuggle79 - Sorry you were startled by the sudden cliffhanger. Here's the update. There's still some angst coming in the next few chapters as the Master and Omius take on larger roles in this story. Don't worry, though, it all ends well, really well. You'll see ;)

mollyig - Hi there! I don't know what made me think of such nasty creatures. Oh. Wait, now I remember. I had watched this airline commerical where a family was scuba diving while sting rays were swimming around. Sorry, but as much as I want to learn to suba dive, I'm not doing so around Sting Rays. they're called Sting Rays for a reason.

Tulipp - Glad to hear from you again! I wanted to give Dawn a role in the story. I kind of like the kid. With Tara's help, Willow is gaining the confidence she needs to control her own magic, plus share it with Tara. Why the heck not? They share everything else :) . Stay tuned for more of the unhibited version of Tara ;) . I promised more leather and smut, so I'll deliver.

barnabasvamp - Hee, hee. I love it when I can catch my readers in a thought pattern ;O. To me, Willow and Tara are soulmates. They will always be a part of each other's lives, including the magic.

littlecrazy80 - Sorry about the cliffhanger. The story actually peaks soon and all really does end well. Promise! :)

Katharyn - Only the beta reader knows now how it all ends.

tiredsoul - Keep the images of the balcony in mind. More will come ;) .

vampiresswmn - I know, I know a cliffhanger. Yearning for that leather, were ya? Keep yer chaps on sweetie. ;) And yes, in a few months when I've lost more weight, I'll get a pair and model them for ya. Maybe post a pic on my web site. Hmm. kind of like that idea, but don't know if my other half would be too keen on it... then again she might surprise me.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

The creature landed on his back and Xander fell to his knees. He reached back and tried to pull it from him, but it clung tightly. He cried out when he felt something pierce his skin and then fell towards the floor as consciousness faded. He was still aware of several more of the creatures coming through the broken windows and attacking him.

He didn’t know how much time had passed but he didn’t feel so good. He turned his face to the door when he heard running feet. He was dimly aware of something on his back and legs. The door rattled from the pounding of fists on its sturdy frame. With an effort, Xander pushed himself to his hands and knees, but the dizziness forced him back down to the floor.

With a crash, the door splintered, kicked open by the Slayer. Knife in hand, she ran to him, pulled one of the creatures from his back and quickly sliced it open, killing it. The remaining two, now aware of the fresh prey, lifted themselves from his back and flew straight for her. Tara flicked the light switch and the creatures flared up in a quick burst of flame before falling down to the floor in a pile of ashes.

“Xander!” they cried out, Tara supporting a limping Willow to his side.

“Hey.” He said weakly. “How did you…?”

“Lanterns. Very big lanterns.” Tara and Dawn hefted the large lanterns in their hands attached to a large 12-volt battery. They had enough wattage to light up an entire room with white brilliant light. “And they were only attacking us, no one else.”

“Oh. How did you know I…” Xander started.

“…was in danger? Willow knew.” Tara finished and looked at her lover.

Buffy returned from checking out the rest of the apartment for any remaining creatures. She turned him over and pulled him to his feet. With her support, he was able to stagger over to the couch.

“God, you look like hell.” Buffy said and helped him lay down.

“I feel like it too.” He replied and then he noticed that Willow was injured. “Will, are you all right?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” She limped over to him and knelt by the sofa. “Turn over and let me see your back.”

Xander turned over and Dawn gasped. A large circular area of his skin was red with tiny welts, as if it had been used as a pincushion. Willow hovered her hand over the injured area and then with her fingers ripped the hole in the pajama top further to expose a larger area. Like ink, running outward from the wound, the blood in his back was turning black.

“Oh, God.” Dawn muttered.

“Tara!” Willow cried out to get her attention and the blonde was at her side in an instant. “We have to do this now. No time to explain.” She said and Tara nodded, trusting her.

Willow pulled healing energy from around her and used her body as a vessel to store the power. She grasped Tara’s hand and the blonde gasped from the sudden surge of energy that erupted between them and fell to her knees. Their gazes were drawn to each other and their breathing became more labored as the power intensified. In unison, their eyes turned to Xander, who’s breathing had become more shallow, and laid their hands on top of the angry wound.

Xander gasped and his back arched as the healing power from Willow and Tara seeped into him. “Hot!” He panted and began struggling against them.

“Buffy! Hold him down!” Willow ordered and the Slayer rushed in and pushed his shoulders down into the couch, holding him there.

“Dawn, get his legs!” Buffy said and Dawn ran over, clamped her hands over his ankles, and tried to hold the jerking limbs down, but ended up sitting on them instead.

“Hot!” Xander moaned again and then there was a flash of light from beneath Willow and Tara’s hands.

Tara pulled back panting and Willow, very weak now, collapsed into her. All of the wounds inflicted by creatures had been healed and slowly, Buffy released his shoulders and he tried to turn over but Dawn was still sitting on his legs. Realizing this, she got up, patted his legs and apologized, before heading to the kitchen.

Tara shifted Willow’s body so that her head rested in the hollow of her wide shoulder. She brushed several locks of damp red hair back behind Willow’s ear and caressed her face with the palm of her hand. Willow’s eyes opened slightly and she gave Tara a weak smile before closing them again.

“What’s wrong? Is she all right?” Buffy asked Tara, her voice edged with concern.

“Yes. She’s all right, just exhausted. She had very little strength to begin with, and I don’t have much left myself.” Tara breathed and leaned against the sofa with Willow in her arms.

“I do.” Buffy said and sat down next to her. She took Willow and Tara’s hands in her own. “ I have plenty of strength, so I’m going to give it to both of you.”

Willow opened her eyes and squeezed Buffy’s hand. Tara smiled appreciatively and tucked Willow tighter against her side.

Dawn returned from the kitchen with a bowl of water and a dishtowel. Xander saw her approach and sat up gingerly, leaning his head against the soft couch. He smiled at her appreciatively when she sat down next to him, dipped the rag into the water and wiped the cold sweat from his face. When he reached out to take the towel from her, they looked down at the three women sitting on the floor.

One by one they felt the threads of healing magic enfold them, mold about them, join them. Time and space were nothing, there was only the warmth of healing.

Meanwhile, outside Xander’s apartment building, Omius stood in the shadows of a large elm and a group of the dark creatures hid in the tree. With a wave of his hand they rose up and few away. He closed his eyes and let himself feel the magic that flowed from the carpenter’s apartment. The red haired one was incredibly powerful and would suit the Master’s purpose quite well. But the blonde one, she had no idea the strength of her own power. Omius smiled, thinking about the blonde, and worked out his own plan for her.

Chapter Thirty

After making a call to one of Xander’s workmates to have the windows repaired, Buffy and Dawn cleared and patched up the broken panes in Xander’s apartment with plastic as best they could. Willow and Tara were in Xander’s bedroom packing a few clothes for him. Buffy had insisted that he stay with her until the windows were fixed and his apartment no longer resembled a freezer. With rent. Gratefully, the bulky carpenter agreed and they helped him out to his car, which Willow drove over to Buffy’s house.

Once they arrived, Buffy helped him to the sofa and he sank into it gratefully.

“Thanks, guys.” He said and leaned back into the cushions.

“How’re you feeling?” Willow asked.

“Better. Not so dizzy.” He replied and then lifted his head to look at them. “By the way, what the hell where those things?”

“Don’t know, but someone or something sent them as a warning.” Buffy answered.

“What? What’s going on?” Xander wanted to know.

“They were creatures of dark magic.” Tara replied.

“The Master?” Willow queried.

Buffy nodded, “the Master and his minions are still part Vampire. They can’t come in unless invited.”

“So they sent us presents instead. Sweet.” Xander said sarcastically.

Tara turned to Willow and laid a hand on her arm. “Sweetie?” She said and Willow glanced at her. “Listen, um, I’ve got classes in a few hours. How about I make breakfast?” She shifted her glance to the others.

“I’ll help.” Dawn offered and they went into the kitchen.

A grin spread across Xander’s face when Tara mentioned making breakfast. Buffy got on the phone and made a call to have two of her windows repaired.

After breakfast, Willow helped Tara wash the dishes, bringing herself into little ‘accidental’ contacts with the blonde as often as possible. She was leaning back against the counter, drying a dish and exchanging looks with Tara as they talked. In the middle of a sentence, Willow frowned, turned and looked out the kitchen window over the sink. Tara, noticing the alarm on Willow’s face, followed the red head’s gaze, the sun was just rising, a bird sang in the distance and the leaves on the trees in the yard whispered quietly.

Willow set the plate and dishtowel down, gently brushing Tara’s hand that rested on her arm away. She opened the back door and stood on the small landing on the porch. Her gaze traveled over the trees and shrubs in the yard, then down to the roots and it was there that she saw the darkness.

“No!” She whispered in horror. Willow ran from the landing out into the garden, followed by the others, who noticed her sudden panic.

Willow reached the giant oak that stood proudly in the center of the yard, dropped to the ground, dug her hands through the grass and into the soil beneath. Within seconds, Tara was beside her and looked helplessly on as Willow entered into some sort of a trance. Buffy, Dawn and Xander stopped behind her and just watched. At Tara’s prompting, knowing it would be dangerous to try and shake Willow out of it, it was all that they could do. After a few minutes, Willow’s eyes opened. She blinked back tears and turned to Tara.

“It’s dark, Tara.” Willow shifted her gaze to Buffy. “It’s seeping up… coming…” She stopped and swallowed. “…up through the soil and… poisoning everything.” Willow jerked her hands from the ground as if burned. “It’s already here,” she whispered.

“Armageddon anyone?” Dawn said worriedly.

Suddenly a tendril of dark magic of unknown origin invaded her thoughts and Willow clutched at her head, fighting it. The pain was searing and she ground her teeth to keep from crying out. She fell back and began hyperventilating from the agony.

“Willow!” Tara cried, placing her hands over Willow’s. Her eyes searched Willow’s face frantically. “Will!”

When Willow opened her eyes and Tara gasped in dismay. Willow’s eyes had gone dark and Tara could feel her repressed fear awakening, and her heart began to palpitate. She swallowed and resisted the instinct to back away.

“Willow! What’s happening?” She grasped Willow’s wrists, and shook her gently. She sensed the darkness reaching for her and then recoiled inwardly when it touched her mind. She was breathing hard, fighting the dark magic that was slowly seeping into her from Willow. She tightened her grip on Willow’s wrists and shook her again, determined to break whatever hold this magic had on her lover.

“Tara, get back!” Willow lowered her arm and pushed Tara away, breaking any contact the dark magic may have had with her. Tara gasped and then Willow screamed. Roiling thunderclouds suddenly appeared and swarmed in over them, blotting out the sun. Willow squeezed her eyes shut and bolt of lightning flashed. Tara jumped, looked up at the darkening sky, and then back at Willow. Wisps of fear began forming in her mind and she could hear its faint whispering.

‘Tara, what’s happening?” Dawn cried out as the others looked about warily, the sudden wind whipped Buffy, Dawn and Tara’s longer hair about and chilled their skin.

“I don’t know!” She shouted back over rapidly repeating rumbles of thunder.

Willow, still clutching at her head, knelt forward and between gulps of air, tried to focus on the spark of light at the edge of her consciousness.

Tara could feel the darkness surging through Willow, but then a gentle light shone and she reached for it. She followed the spark through a twisting, turning dark maze, and found Willow. She held out her hands and the gentle light glided into them. Then it grew, shining so brightly that she had to look away.

Tara opened her eyes first, followed by Willow and they looked at one another with startled expressions. Tara was sitting opposite Willow and when she looked down, she held Willow’s hands in her own. She traced the soft skin with her thumbs.

Willow swallowed and her breathing slowed. She looked down at their clasped hands before shifting her gaze back to Tara’s face.

“Will, what…?” Tara began.

“I don’t know. It… felt like… like something tapped into my mind. It knows I’m connected to something powerful and it tried to reach for you through me,” Willow answered without waiting for Tara to finish. “That’s why I had to push you away. I couldn’t let something like that touch you… me, it already has, but not you… not ever.” Willow swallowed the rise of nausea and looked down at the ground.

“What!” Tara exclaimed and then she calmed herself down. Placing her hands on Willow’s shoulders, she said, “Will, this is not good.”

“No, it’s not.” Willow agreed and brought sad eyes up to meet her lover’s own somber blue ones.

“Okay, what’s going on?” Xander asked, looking back and forth between them.

“The badness is beneath us, where all badness usually is.” Buffy explained.

“We’re going to stop it right?” Dawn asked.

“Not bloody likely.” Spike chipped in and stepped out from behind one of the trees and into the shadows. He looked at Willow with a sly smile. “So, red’s got a direct line to the bad.”

“Spike?” Buffy asked, barely able to discern his skeletal frame in the dark shadows.

“When she’s bad, she’s good,” he said. Willow couldn’t see him but she sent him a disapproving look anyway. “He’d like you.” Spike added and she frowned, not sure if he was having sane thoughts at the moment.

“Spike!” Buffy snapped.

“Right. Right. Off you go then. Down, down you go.” He rambled.

“Anyone making any sense out of this?” Dawn asked and Buffy shook her head.

“Blood. Mix the blood. New kind of breed. Doesn’t have a name yet.” He continued rambling, shuffling his fingers through his hair.

“Okay, this is getting way scary.” Willow said as the insane blond vampire ambled away, keeping to the shadows as the sun’s warm rays crept across the lawn.

Lovely to see the Girls all working together to help Xander. Buffy's offer to help our poor drained girls was nice to see.

Omius banishing the creatures, and the attempted dark contact. It seems he was testing Willow's powers, and is now intrigued with Tara also.

Update! Hallowed Nights Chapter 31 & 32

Postby allyson12 » Fri Oct 25, 2002 5:43 am

Hello kittens! Here is the update!

barnabasvamp - Willow gets very protective of Tara. You betcha. I'd protect her too ;) .

mollyig - Omius isn't the only one curious abouut Tara. There's someone else who definately wants to cause trouble.

snuggle79 - Willow is protective. Tara is the love of her life and she'll do what it takes to spare her life even at the cost of her own.

Katharyn - Again, thank you. This worked out so much better!

Chapter Thirty-One

Being a senior had its advantages. For one, you had fewer classes if you bulked up during your freshman and sophomore years. So it was that Tara only had two classes this morning and was standing outside the academic building waiting for Xander to arrive and give her a ride home. It was there that her skin prickled and she looked about her, sensing the threat of danger. Across the street, several forms materialized, dark masses that rose from the earth. Instinctively she backed up and when they moved forward she turned and ran instead. Just then a car turned a corner and, recognizing it as Xander’s she ran towards it and it screeched to a stop as she ran up to it. She grasped the door handle, swung the door open and jumped inside.

“Xander, go!” She commanded and swung the car door shut.

“What’s…” He started.

“Tara…” Dawn interrupted. Tara hadn’t even noticed her there.

“Just go!” Tara shouted.

Xander looked up and saw the dark forms approaching his car. His skin crawled when he felt a touch of darkness. From past experience, he could tell that they were creatures of dark magic and he shivered. He slammed his foot down on the gas pedal and the car peeled away from them, leaving rubber behind. He managed to get out of the campus and onto the main road. There was a stretch of woods to the left and a cemetery on the right. From the cemetery dozens of dark forms appeared and they fanned out with outstretched arms and as if in response the car sputtered. Confused, Xander looked down at the flashing gauges in the dash as the engine died and the car stopped in the middle of the road.

“I have an idea,” he said and opened his car door. “Run!”

Tara took Dawn by the hand, jumped out and followed Xander into the woods. They crashed into the trees, the underbrush almost tripping them. Tara darted behind a large boulder, pulling Dawn with her. She saw Xander run past and several dark forms materialized. He stopped short and spun around. Before he could take a step, one of the dark forms touched him, and his body fell. Xander’s body lay motionless but his eyes stared into hers.

Tara turned her body to peer over the other side of the rock and her breath caught. A dark form appeared in front of her. Dawn gasped and Tara moved them away from the form.

“Tara!” Dawn cried out and Tara shifted her gaze to look over her shoulder. Another form materialized and they closed in. All Tara and Dawn could do was huddle against the rock. Tara couldn’t come up with a spell to ward off the creatures. She didn’t know what they were, and even if she did, she told herself that she didn’t have that kind of power to ward off so many. She cringed, hoping they wouldn’t touch her or Dawn, look what happened to Xander, when he couldn’t get past any of the dark creatures.

And then they were touched.

They slumped to the ground when the dark forms touched them. The wraiths vanished into the ground and Omius stepped into view. A second demon, female in appearance, walked up to the prone forms.

“That one’s the witch. I’ll take her.” She announced and smiled down at the unmoving form, her eyes lingering on the blonde’s hair shining in the pale moonlight.

“As you wish.” He watched as his companion lifted Tara into her arms.

The two demons shuffled away and disappeared into the night. Some time later, Xander and Dawn woke and pushed themselves to their feet. They looked about and didn’t see any of the dark forms or Tara. They called out for her, but there was no response. After a long search, when they were sure that she was no where nearby, they ran back to the car and drove off in the direction of Buffy’s house.

“Buffy will know what to do.” Xander said as he drove the car at high speed down the road.

“What’ll we tell Willow?” Dawn asked. “You know she’ll totally wig out.”

“I know.” Xander said with a sideways glance at the teen. God, he dreaded giving Willow the news. His hands gripped the steering wheel tighter. All he could think about was what happened the last time Tara was in danger and how Willow reacted. Willow had called upon the dark magicks and lost control, becoming the magicks, destroying and killing. Tara stopped her and brought her back, but what about this time? Have the witches at the coven successfully helped Willow learn to control her powers? He wasn’t sure he wanted to find out.

Chapter Thirty-Two

The moon shone, its bright light illuminating the way into the woods. An owl hooted and Xander jumped, but just a little. The temperature was dropping and their warm breath misted in front of them as they breathed. Buffy and Willow followed Xander as he led them through the trees. Buffy had insisted that Dawn stay at the house for her own safety and in case Tara happened to arrive – though no one really thought that she’d just wandered off.

“This is where we were attacked.” Xander said and stopped.

Willow cocked her head and Buffy saw the subtle movement. “Will, what is it?” Buffy asked.

“It’s here. I can feel it.” Willow scanned the area. With a wave of her hand the trees bent back and revealed a small slope. Buffy turned to Willow with raised brows. Behind them, hidden in the thick shrubbery, several pairs of yellow eyes watched.

“I think that’s it.” Willow said, frowning because she wasn’t sure what she was looking at or for.

“That?” Xander looked from the slope to Willow. “It’s a hill, Will.”

“Well, if Willow’s magic found it, there must be a reason why.” Buffy said and moved forward towards it. “Okay, why are you not moving?” Buffy asked after taking a few steps and noticing that Willow and Xander weren’t following.

“Because it’s a trap.” Willow replied and waved a hand behind her. The shrubbery parted to reveal the Blood demons that were watching them.

Omius stepped forward from the foliage and raised his arm towards Xander. Blue energy sparked from his fingers, hitting Xander squarely on the chest. Xander was lifted from his feet and thrown back into one of the large boulders that dotted the area. He grunted in pain when his sturdy frame crashed into it, and crumpled to the ground.

“Xander!” Buffy and Willow cried out. They ran to him and crouched by his unconscious body.

Willow turned her head to Omius, her eyes flashing in anger. “Why?” She asked and Buffy looked at her worriedly, hearing the rage that had entered Willow’s tone.

“Willow…” She whispered but Willow raised a hand, signaling for her to be quiet.

“I’m not interested in the boy.” Omius told her.

“Where’s Tara?” Willow asked in an even voice. She hadn’t wanted to listen to Buffy, but she understood the concern.

“You wish to see her?” the demon asked.

“Well, yeah, that would be nice.” Buffy quipped sarcastically.

“Yes. It really would.” Willow’s voice dropped in tone.

“She’s with my Master and, as I said, you will be meeting him tonight.” Omius turned, moving off towards the slope.

“What about Xander?” Willow asked Buffy.

“He’ll be okay. He’ll probably have a headache, but he’ll be okay.” Buffy said to Willow and she nodded, relieved to know that her best friend wasn’t in any danger.

“Why isn’t Giles here to get knocked out and beaten up.” Buffy looked over at Willow who gave her a dry look. “Sorry.” She apologized.

“Leave him.” Omius ordered, turning back to them. Buffy looked down at Xander and then up at Willow. When the demon turned towards the slope, they stood up and followed him.

Omius waved his arm and an arched doorway appeared at the side of the hill. At his gesture, they followed the demon inside and walked slowly down worn cobblestone steps. The demon had no trouble walking down into the darkness, but Buffy and Willow wouldn’t be able to see their way. Willow snapped her fingers and a glowing light hovered above them, lighting their way down into the earth.

They stopped at a set of iron gates. Omius turned the handles and they swung open quietly. Another set of steps took them further down. The arched walls, chiseled from rock, turned dark with dampness and water trickled somewhere nearby.

“Buffy, notice that this has been around for a while?” Willow observed.

“Yeah. I’m noticing.” Buffy replied. “I think when this is all over, I’m going to do some patrolling in these woods.”

Buffy caught a flicker of movement and she felt herself go cold all over. When she looked over at the wall, it rippled. The rippling continued downward and over the ground at her feet. Buffy had an eerie sense of déjà vu and then remembered her dream and stopped when the form solidified.

“Ah, Jessica.” Omius greeted her. She moved forward and placed her hand on his arm. It was the woman whom Omius had turned on that Halloween night in the Bronze.

“So, we meet again,” she said to Buffy and Willow.

“Can’t say I’m pleased.” Buffy replied and the woman laughed before turning with Omius and continuing down the stairs.

“So, you’ve come to rescue your lover?” Jessica looked at Willow slyly from over her shoulder and Buffy’s mouth dropped open.

“What…?” Willow ground her teeth and glared. Her fingers curled into tight fists. “If you’ve touched her-”

“Oh, please.” Jessica sighed and turned to Omius. “Can’t a girl have any fun?”

Buffy watched the exchange between Willow and the demon, Jessica, with concern. She saw the angry flush spread across Willow’s face, so she placed her hand on her friends arm and Willow turned to look at her. She could tell that Willow wasn’t just angry but scared too. Her gesture seemed to have a calming effect for Willow swallowed and then gave a short nod. At times Buffy envied the relationship Willow had with Tara. It seemed as if there was nothing that could tear them apart, except for that one time. That time when Willow couldn’t control her magic and used it to change the world around her to her liking. Used it on her friends, including Tara, to manipulate circumstances and events. It all came to a head and Tara was deeply disturbed and hurt by what Willow had done. And then they had taken time away from each other, but everyone knew that they were miserable without each other. Willow waited patiently for Tara to forgive her. Tara was the most forgiving and loving of them all. She looked over at Willow and saw the concern and worry in the emerald eyes. She understood that feeling all too well.

As soon as they stepped into the cavern, they saw Tara. The blonde was lying on the dirt floor, unconscious. Willow ran to her first and Buffy followed. Willow turned her over and felt for a pulse. Finding a strong one, she looked at buffy and nodded, her face flooding with relief.

“Tara, baby, can you hear me?” Willow rocked her in her arms for a bit before looking back at Buffy.

“No, she can’t hear you.” Jessica replied and stepped forward. “Don’t worry, I didn’t hurt her…much.”

“What do you mean…?” Willow lay Tara down gently and got up, disbelief and anger shading her green eyes. Buffy moved to her side and placed a restraining hand on her arm.

“Oh, please. All I did was put her to sleep.” She gave a short laugh. “Now, so must you.” Her gaze slipped from face to face and her hands reached towards them Too late Willow realized her mistake. So intent was she on Tara’s condition and focusing her anger on the demon that she didn’t notice how close she had gotten to them. Her fingers touched them before either Buffy or Willow could move.

“Nighty, night.” She said.

The red headed Witch and the Slayer slumped to the ground.

I'm curious as to how Jessica managed to put Willow and Buffy to sleep. I'm surprised that how easily led they were, especially after the display of the zapping of Xander (which I enjoyed!) Willow was worried about her Tara, but why wasn't Buffy more wary?

Sheeesh... they fell right into that trap, after so many years on the Hellmouth. At least Willow has some excuse, though letting a possible enemy get that close to you is never smart. Jessica moves faster then Buffy ? Interesting...

Now lets see what Jessica wants from them, don't see her as any huge threat at the moment. (more like Harmony and her minions:) ). Now kick her sorry witchy ass out of existence, heh.

Postby allyson12 » Mon Oct 28, 2002 8:02 am

barnabasvamp - Hi there. Sorry about the cliffhanger. I promise to make it up to you in the next update ;) .

mollyig - Hi! I hoped I answered your question about Jessica in this update. There's a lot about her we don't yet know. I'm saving it for the sequel though...

MissQuirky - I'm glad you made it back. Sorry to hear that RL is pulling you down. This story is coming to a close, but I hope to do a sequel...

snuggle79 - I'm assuming you mean Jessica? Yeah, she's a paradox. She's kind of a she devil of sorts. I'll talk more about her in the sequel...

Grimlock72 - No, Jessica isn't a huge threat for the moment, but she is dangerous. I'm saving that for later...

Katharyn - Thanks for pointing out some confusing stuff. Glad you're there! Thanks!:)

Now this section is rated R for violence and sexual metaphor content. There is some blood and ickiness, but not too much.

In the next update the leather and smut return...

No, really, I promise!;)

Chapter Thirty-Three

When Willow woke, it was the ache in her shoulders that first made her realize her predicament. She was manacled to a post that was set inside a depression in the packed dirt. She instinctively knew what was going to fill up the pool, her blood. That was the way things were in Sunnydale. She swallowed and looked over at Buffy who was chained in a similar fashion. Buffy opened her eyes and met Willow’s gaze.

“Are you okay, Will?” she asked, concern in her voice.

“I’m okay, but Buffy, I have a really bad feeling about this.” Willow said and looked down at her bare feet.

“You and me both.” Buffy struggled against the chains that bound her wrists behind the beam, almost loosening them enough to free herself. “I should have taken them out when I had the chance.” She muttered.

They turned their heads when they heard a chuckle.

“Master, I have done as you wished,” Omius said.

“Chains? Chains won’t hold them, young Omius, but magic will.” The Master strode into the room, his robes swirling down to around his ankles. “And magic will bind the witch as well.”

When the Master waved his hand, Buffy and Willow found that they couldn’t move their arms or their legs anymore.

Omius walked over to Tara and knelt by her body. He brushed a lock of blond hair back over her shoulder with a long talon. Willow remembered what he did to the woman that was now his companion on that Halloween night. Like a fist, fear clenched her heart and her chest rose and fell rapidly as her breathing increased.

“Don’t…” Willow began and Omius spun to her. She swallowed, thankful that he didn’t cut Tara with the movement.

“Don’t what?” He asked and his eyes narrowed. He took Tara’s hand and turned it over. With his talon, he dragged it along her palm, making a shallow cut. Blood rose to the surface and Tara stirred.

“Please…” Willow begged him, her voice a hoarse whisper.

Omius ignored her and raised the blonde’s palm to his mouth. He sucked the blood from the cut and then his body convulsed. When the convulsions stopped, he looked over at Willow, breathing hard. He tapped his talons together and sparks of power surged from them. Willow swallowed and Buffy glanced over at her.

“Willow! What’s going on?”

“Remember when Spike said ‘It’s about blood and power’?” Willow looked over at her friend and then Buffy understood.

“Yeah. I get it,” the Slayer said with a heavy sigh.

“Do you?” The Master asked. “Good.”

Omius stood and disappeared off into another cavern. Buffy and Willow looked at one another. Before long he returned and handed the Master a wide rimmed silver bowl. The Master turned and Buffy looked down into the dark red liquid and wrinkled her nose.

“With your blood, I will be able to release my family.” He set the bowl down on the altar between them and dipped his finger into it. He approached Buffy and smeared it across her forehead.

“Exactly how big is your family?” Buffy wanted to know, grimacing as his finger spread the blood over her skin.

“Very big. With spawns like Omius, we will make this world ours once again.”

“Okay, where is your family?” Buffy asked looking around.

“They are where you cannot go.” He stopped and trailed a finger through a lock of her blonde hair. “Unless you’re a demon.”

“Ah, no thanks.” She replied quickly. “I think I’ll pass.” The demon removed his hand from her hair and she looked over at the bloody strands. “Great. Now I’ve got wash my hair, again.”

The Master chuckled at her humor. He pulled out a wicked looking dagger from inside his cloak. Black onyx shone darkly along the hilt and the blade winked in the muted light. He pressed the blade hard under Buffy’s chin, the tip almost piercing her skin, and Buffy held her breath.

“You know that once I cut, your blood will run and fill up this pool.” He whispered evilly. He seemed about to say more but stopped himself, put the blade away, and Buffy exhaled with relief. He returned to the altar and dipped his finger into the bowl again before walking up to Willow.

“After drinking your blood, I will become the true Master because the power of a slayer and the power of a witch will surge through me, making me invincible.” He told her and repeated the process, rubbing his thumb along Willow’s forehead.

Buffy turned to Willow and said, “Will, I thought you said that these creatures were made genetically?”

“Oh, they are.” The Master answered for Willow. “I’m just performing a ritual before I take your blood.” He paced back to the altar and then turned around, sweeping his cloak behind him. “You see, I have a cache of serum that was made by a very hard working geneticist, whose body I now inherit. All I have to do is mix the blood and once consumed, I will be powerful enough to bridge this world and mine. My family shall come and I shall reign forever. I will become something everyone and everything shall fear. You will shake in your skin, your blood shall run cold, and your mind will no longer be yours. We will take back this world that was once ours.”

“Joy.” Buffy quipped. “You guys just don’t give up, do you?”

The Master laughed. “So, how did you like the little ritual?” He slid the blood stained talon along his tongue, savoring the taste.

“Well, there’s usually chanting in Latin. I think you forgot that part.” Willow said and the Master laughed again.

“What are you?” Buffy asked.

“You have many names for beings like me. Lucifer, Beelzebub, Diablo, Djinn, Mephistopheles, Prince of Darkness, Satan… take your pick.” He whispered as he walked around them.

“Oh, God.” Willow said in horror.

“No, my child. God does not exist here.” He answered with a cold smile, pulled back the hood to his robe and morphed into a familiar face.

“Angel?” Buffy said in a puzzled tone.

“No, Buffy. It’s not Angel.” Willow cried out.

Buffy shook her head, trying to clear the fogginess that had suddenly descended over her.

“He’s trying to enter your mind, Buffy. Fight him!” Willow struggled against the magic that bound her.

“Buffy!” She cried out again, but Buffy was becoming lost somewhere within herself. His empty stare froze the Slayer. She couldn’t move, the blackness held her, dark and deep. She could hear Willow, but as if hypnotized, she was drawn into a dark abyss. She felt powerless and unable to struggle as the darkness wrapped itself around her.

“She can’t hear you, witch!” The Master snarled and Willow glared at him when he turned his eyes upon her. She glanced at Tara’s limp body and clenched her teeth keeping her temper in check. Omius strode to the blonde’s prone form on the ground, knelt and looked up at Willow with a cold smile.

“Jessica likes her, you know. She would make an excellent companion for both of us.” He looked down at the blonde and a taloned finger lightly caressed Tara’s firm jaw. “Beautiful, isn’t she?” He turned his gaze upon Willow. “With her powers, she could be a dark sorceress and a formidable one, even for you.” His lip curled at Willow’s obvious torment. “You love her, don’t you?” He shifted his gaze between the two women. “Pity.” He said and laughed. “Once I’ve turned her, she’ll join us and you’ll fight each other.” He cocked his head. “Well, for the rest of your natural life, or until she ends it.” He laughed again.

Panic crept into Willow’s mind when Omius uncurled his fingers and the talons glinted in the soft light of the candles. He reached for Tara and she heard Tara’s mind screaming for him to stop and Willow’s heart thudded loudly against her chest. She could feel the old dark magick rising unbidden against the white magick and she shook her head, fighting to keep the line between the two magicks from disappearing all together. She closed her eyes and struggled to empty her mind. She thought about the coven, their teachings and meditations. Visions of the soothing landscape that surrounded the ancient castle that housed the coven drifted into her mind.

“Tara…” She cried into her lover’s mind, her voice penetrating the thick fog of the Masters magic. Tara stirred, but didn’t wake. “Tara!” Willow spoke more urgently. If only Tara would wake, she was unbound and able to escape danger. “Tara, you have to wake up!” Tara moved a bit more as if she were struggling to wake. “TARA! WAKE UP!” Willow shouted and it resounded against Tara’s skull, waking her up. Tara’s eyes opened and when she saw the talons on the outstretched hand reaching for her, she skirted away quickly. What happened next would be etched in Tara’s mind as if carved from rock. Tara brought up her arms and chanted a spell. Two large fireballs exploded from her outturned palms and hit Omius squarely in the chest. The demon screamed in agony as the fire consumed him. Tara blinked in surprise, turned her hands over and closed them. She couldn’t believe she had done that, nor that she had that much power. She shifted her gaze from the burning demon to Willow and started to get up but stopped when Willow gave a short shake of her head. Tara tilted her head quizzically and Willow closed her eyes, linking once again with Tara, telepathically.

“The Master is trying to bleed us. He wants the power that’s in our blood. He wants to turn you. Turn you against us. Don’t let him near you.” Willow whispered into Tara’s thoughts and the blonde nodded in understanding. She sat back down, crossed her legs and began to meditate, joining Willow’s thoughts.

“What about you and Buffy?” Tara asked.

“I’ll need your help in a bit, but first, don’t let him near you, okay?” Willow answered and both women opened their eyes, their gazes meeting in understanding. While Tara focused on setting up a shield around herself, Willow turned her attention to the Slayer.

“Buffy…” Willow’s voice echoed in the slayer’s mind. “Fight him!” She urged. “If he takes your mind, then he’ll have your soul!” Sweat beaded on her forehead as she fought against the Dark One’s mystical bind over her powers. “Your soul and mine will give him ultimate power. The world will end… and that’s pretty much a bad thing that we fight against all the time, right?”

The Master turned from the charred remains of Omius with angry eyes and focused on Tara. He approached the blonde witch but electricity arced and zapped him as if he had walked into an electrified wall. Stunned, he backed away, then snarled and turned on Willow.

“You think that will stop me?” his lip curled and he approached her. The Master’s face was so close to her own that she could smell death and she tried not to heave. His red eyes were fluid, a swirling mass of blood and she looked away, nauseated. “No matter. She has already served her purpose.” He trailed a cold finger along her jaw and she closed her eyes as he reached into her mind, threading tendrils of darkness around her thoughts. “I can read your thoughts. Yes, your soul and the Slayer’s will give me the power I need to release my brethren.” He whispered into her mind but it was more like a scream.

She winced against the searing pain. Willow opened her eyes and looked at him, understanding now that he had been the one inflicting that pain upon her and knowledge was power. Slowly she closed her eyes again, willing her mind again to empty, to think of nothing but the earth, the air that she breathed and the smell of water nearby.

Buffy fought the fog that was falling down around her like a heavy blanket. Then a spark shone and she sought it out. The light was familiar and she smiled inwardly when she recognized it as Willow. It shone brighter and brighter and it helped to dispel the fog until finally it was gone.

Willow gasped when the bind on her magic finally broke and the Dark One staggered backwards, clutching his own head in pain.

A white light flashed, harsh and flickering and he recognized this to be the witch’s magic.

“See how you like it!” Willow snapped, her eyes going black for an instant before turning back to their normal color.

“Impossible!” he roared.

The light blinded him momentarily, he blinked in the glare, disoriented and confused. When his vision cleared he stared into the intense green eyes of the red headed witch. He was unable to look away, but he fought to gain some sense of where he was and what he was doing. He raised his hands to his head and screamed in agony.

Willow directed her gaze to the manacles around their wrists and they snapped open. She broke the link with the Master to do this and he stopped screaming. Buffy ran to the wooden ladder that reached upwards into the cavern above. She took hold of a lower rung, snapped it free, and turned towards the Master. Just as he lowered his arms from his head, Buffy threw the piece of wood and it whizzed through the air. The master saw it coming, but was slow to respond and it impaled him through the chest. He looked down at his chest, wrapped his hand around the piece of wood and pulled it out. He dropped the splintered rung and then charged at Buffy. She looked around for another weapon, preferably of the decapitating kind.

“Damn… if he wants to suck blood he should have the decency to turn to dust” Buffy quipped.

Willow focused on the Master again and the light embraced his mind squeezing and tightening. He stopped dead in his tracks, suffocating and spinning downward through blackness, not as a creature of the earth, but as one of death. He clawed at the dark curtain in his mind, ripping and shredding at the fabric until, finally it few apart and was gone. Willow gasped in pain when he broke through her magic as he had when she broke his.

Panting, she met his hateful gaze when he turned to look at her. Anger and determination fired her, and she was determined to take him down, but not with the use of dark magic, as he had been hoping. She realized then that was the Master’s plan all along. To turn her. With a sickening feeling she realized that had this happened several months ago, he would have succeeded. She would have turned. Turned against her friends, her lover, herself.

“Tara!” Willow shouted. Tara looked up and searched Willow’s face, understanding what it was they needed to do. They had to use their love. They met halfway across the cavern and clasped hands. Willow called upon her magic, plunging and dropping through layers of deep green light. Her vision seemed to cloud as she fell and Tara fell with her. Tara gave herself to the magic and suddenly understood it. It was her fear of dark magic that rose up like a barrier between herself and her own power. She had deceived herself, perhaps not willingly or knowingly, and almost believed her powers to be weak. She reached down within herself and found her light, her magic, her power. It wasn’t as bright as Willow’s, but it was there and she embraced it, joining as one heart, mind and body. Willow felt the change in Tara and gazed over at her lover through the bright haze with wonder and pride. She smiled and Tara smiled back. Tara was happy, truly happy. She had finally found herself and with Willow, felt complete.

They were close now, they could feel the fire of the power within them. They commanded it and it obeyed them. With palms outstretched, bolts of blue and green arced towards the Master. Quickly he waved his arm and their magic bounced off of an invisible barrier, but this didn’t deter Willow and Tara. Willow lifted her chin higher and pulled more energy from the earth. A bright light began to encompass them and the magic spewed forth even brighter and stronger. Time slowed and the Master staggered, his protective barrier weakening. With a final thrust, their magic burst through his shield and engulfed him in sparking blue light. His body jerked and he fell to his knees. A hole burned its way into his chest and then his entire body burst into flame. He writhed and screamed in fury as he burned. When the fire died, all that was left were a pile of charred bones and a few scattered pieces of his burnt robe.

Breathing hard, Willow and Tara leaned against one another and Buffy walked up to them.

“We need to find that room.” Buffy said and they followed her as she walked from one cavern to another. Finally they found what they were looking for. There was something else that had to be done.

“Wow.” Was all Willow could say. The laboratory was large and in various states of production. Buffy walked up to the large fluid filled canisters along the wall with Zeroth demons in them. Willow and Tara joined her.

“Looks like they’re in some kind of stasis.” Willow commented and pointed to the computer pad by one of the tubes. “It’s alive, but only as a vessel. There’s no brain activity. Nothing at all.”

Willow and Tara moved off to one of the computers and the red head began searching around on the hard drive for documents.

“Buffy!” she called out and the Slayer came to her side, peering over her shoulder with Tara. “There are tons of documents in here. Formulas, chemical compositions, analysis, detailed genetic models, logs… you name it. It’s all in there.”

“Willow, we need to destroy this place. You know chemicals and stuff. Do your thing.” Buffy said and waved a hand over the shelves that contained buckets and vials of chemicals. “Unless you want me to use a big stick?”

Willow walked along the shelves, pulling down canisters and vials. She poured the contents into several beakers, mixed them carefully with glass stirrers and then poured the separate mixtures into two tall beakers. Willow set the stirrers aside, corked the beakers and nodded, satisfied.

“You take this one.” She handed Buffy one of the beakers and the Slayer looked at the red liquid with one eye. “The chemicals in these beakers are very toxic. When mixed, they’ll combust and stink like hell.” Willow smiled and held up her purple one.

“When you say combust, you mean like fire, right?” Buffy asked just making sure.

“Yep. Big fire.” Willow replied.

“Actually, I think she means an explosion.” Tara clarified “I saw what ingredients you mixed, sweetie and they weren’t all chemical… some were magical,” she said and Willow grinned.

“Let’s go home.” Buffy said and they threw the beakers into the cavern and ran for the stairs that would take them up and out of the darkness.

The explosion rocked the caverns, causing many of them to collapse. Smoke and dirt billowed through the caves. A hooded figure moved from the shadows when the air cleared. She pulled back her hood and whispered, “It’s not over yet, is it Master?”

A dark form hovered in the air next to her. “No, Jessica, it’s not. It’s only the beginning.”

Chapter Thirty-Four

“I don’t get it,” Xander said. “Even if he got your blood, didn’t he have to do something scientific to get that genetic thing to work?” Xander tapped his finger against the dining room table.

“Not really. He already had the formula and all the compounds. All he had to do then was mix the blood with it.” Willow shifted when Tara’s hand caressed the inside of her thigh through her jeans and took a deep breath before continuing. “We found the lab and destroyed the remaining batches as well as the vessels he had in stasis.” Willow bit her lip when Tara’s hand inched upwards. Both women could still feel lingering traces of magic and it drew them to one another. Life or death situations had a way of bringing them closer together in interesting ways.

“Eww.” Dawn said and Tara jumped slightly, stilling her fingers on Willow’s leg, but only for an instant.

“So, we won’t be seeing any more of those red and black, horned and ugly demons?” Xander asked and changed the subject.

“Zeroth demons, Xander.” Anya corrected him. “You think all demons are ugly, don’t you?” She gave him a hard look and he stuttered.

Buffy spoke up and saved him. “That woman that was with Omius at the Halloween Ball, Jessica…” she paused and everyone looked at her.

“Buffy, how did Jessica manage to get one over on you?” Dawn looked at her sister.

“In her former life, past life… whatever… um, she was a witch.” Willow explained and Dawn shifted her gaze to the red head. “I should have known, I sensed the magic, but didn’t realize where it was coming from until too late. She used a spell to stop time. That’s how she got close to us.”

“She was still down there. And the Master. I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of them.” Buffy said.

“You’ll find them.” Xander said.

“Maybe not.” Tara turned to Willow and smiled, inching her fingers up further. “That was one heck of an explosion, Sweetie.” She raised a brow and Willow grinned at the double meaning.

“Explosion? What explosion? You made an explosion? And I missed that?” Xander huffed.

“Yeah, you missed it. And it was a big one.” Willow returned Tara’s grin.

“Is there even a remote possibility that I might see something like that again?” Xander asked. His face took on a perplexed look when Willow and Tara looked at each other and laughed.

“It’s possible that Jessica may be stuck down there for a while even if Jessica is still alive, or undead or whatever she is. Was.” Buffy said. “Should you speak in the past tense when you don’t know whether someone is alive, undead or dead dead?”

“Let’s hope for a very long while.” Dawn added not adding to her sisters confusion.

“Well, I don’t know about you, but I really need to take a shower.” Tara said, half laughing at herself. Dirt fell from her hair when she threaded her fingers through it and that was never fun.

“And your hand, it needs healing.” Willow said, turning over Tara’s wounded hand in her lap. It was more of a caress than a simple turn though, with the magic still coursing through them, and Tara slowly lifted her face to meet Willow’s eyes. She stood up, took Willow’s hand, led her from the table and up the stairs.

“Dawn, feel like staying up and watching a movie? I’m still a bit wound up. Xander, how about you?” Buffy said as she got up from the table.

“Huh?” He jerked his eyes from following the departing Willow and Tara to the stairs back to Buffy’s face. “Are they talking about the topical kind of healing, like with band aids and stuff or the spell kind?”

Buffy and Dawn merely stared at him.

“Oh. Oh… that kind of healing. Well, actually that kind of spell. Yeah, the kind of spell I’d like to…” He stuttered, trying to backpedal. “I mean… you know…”

“Xander, I think you’ve already dug yourself in pretty deep. Give it a rest.” Dawn quipped and patted his shoulder as she walked by.

“Yeah, Xander… movies, you know, the moving picture kind. Over there.” She pointed as she walked to the couch. “Find one.”

“Right.” Sighing with relief, he got up and moved to the video cabinet.

“I’ll make the popcorn.” Dawn volunteered and disappeared into the kitchen.
