Part Six B:
This was it. It was officially time to tell Buffy about Tara. Willow wasn't exactly sure why that thought was so terrifying. She totally got why she didn't want to tell Xander. They had a history of accepting change in one another very badly, but Buffy. 'She's always so openminded about the choices I make. She encouraged me to date Oz even after we found out he was a werewolf, she was super supportive about my foray into witchcraft. But this isn't witchcraft and there is no way to predict how your friends will react to this kind of news.' The closer Willow got to 214 Stevenson, the slower she walked. She was quickly losing her nerve. 'What if they hate me?' Willow thought. 'Could my friends ever really hate me? No, this is stupid. They're Buffy and Xander, they could never hate me. Maybe they already know? They could have figured it out from the way I act around Tara. Of course how could they, they've never seen us together. I just have to put myself in their shoes. What would I do if they told me that they were gay? First, I would ask if they were happy, and they would say yes. Then I would say that's great and give them a hug. Maybe I'm just imagining it the way I want it to be. No, I'm sure I'd be understanding. I can do this, I can,' Willow thought pausing outside the door to her room. Opening the door she stepped in and then turned around to close it. When she turned back around to face the room she nearly jumped out of her skin. Sitting around the room were Buffy, Xander, and Anya all starring at her. Buffy was sitting on her bed facing Willow's bed, and Xander and Anya had pulled the chairs from the desks and had them facing Willow's bed as well. Anya was sitting with a large bag of popcorn in her lap. The arrangement didn't seem conducive for a heart to heart talk with her best friends, it seemed more like an arrangement for an intervention, but what had she done that they were trying to intervene?
"Will, sit down. We have to talk," Buffy said in a very serious tone.
"We do?" Willow asked nervously sitting down on her bed. For some reason she felt like she was at a public execution, and she was the one being executed. Everyone was just starring at her like she did something wrong, and she really had no idea what this was all about.
"Is there anything you want to tell us?" Xander asked. "And don't be afraid to go into detail." Anya paused in her popcorn consumption long enough to swat Xander. "What? I'm just trying to help."
"I beg you not to," Buffy said shooting him a stern look. "Now, Will, is there anything you want to tell us? Anything at all?"
"What's going on? Did I do something?" Willow asked throughly confused by her friends behavior.
"Did you ever," Anya said between handfuls.
"Anya!" Buffy and Xander yelled in unison.
"What?" She asked.
"Somebody better tell me what's going on here, or I'm leaving," Willow said standing up, putting her hands on her hips. Now seemed like a good time to employ her resolve face as well. She didn't understand what was going on, and she didn't like it. She felt like she was being accused of something, but they hadn't actually done any accusing. It was all very upsetting.
"Okay, just sit down and we'll tell you," Buffy said. She wanted Willow to confess. She didn't like the idea that Willow wouldn't confide in her, but if Will wanted to play stupid then Buffy would put all the cards on the table so she couldn't. Buffy waited for Willow to sit back down before continuing. "We saw you today."
"Yeah," Willow said still not getting it.
"On your picnic," Buffy continued.
"Oh," Willow said finally figuring out what they were all talking about, after they told her of course. Everything was finally making sense.
"So what's going on Will?" Xander asked determined not to let the betrayal he was feeling show. He just couldn't understand why Willow hadn't told him.
"I think it was pretty obvious what was going on," Anya said popping in a couple more pieces of popcorn.
"Wait a minute, were you spying on me?" Willow asked in disbelief. She didn't want to think her friends would spy on her, but what other reason was there for them to have seen her. She made sure to go as far from their hang outs as possible.
"No," Buffy and Xander said shaking their heads no, while Anya was nodding an ethusiastic yes.
"Why would you spy on me? Don't you trust me?" Willow said the hurt she was feeling evident in her voice. Xander who had been trying his best to keep his cool finally lost it.
"You don't get to be hurt here Will. We're the ones who were betrayed. I mean, how else were we supposed to know what's going on in your life? If we hadn't caught you today when were you going to tell us? Tomorrow? Next week? Next month? Never? You haven't exactly been forthcoming with the information, so do you really blame us? I thought we were best friends. Why couldn't you tell me?"
"Xander, I.. this isn't easy," Willow said beginning to cry. "This is a huge thing in my life and I'm just coming to terms with it myself, and I was gonna tell you, I swear I was. I just needed...I was scared." Willow said looking at her best friends. Buffy and Xander moved to sit next to Willow on her bed, and put their arms around her.
"All the more reason to tell us, Will," Buffy said wiping the tears from Willow's face. "We're your friends, we're not scary. Well maybe first thing in the morning and when Xander does his impressions, but that's not the point. The point is we just want to help. We don't care if you're gay, straight, or purple, we'll always be your friends and we'll always love you. Right Xander?"
"Right. We aren't angry because you're gay, we're angry because you didn't tell us in the beginning," Xander said, "and angry isn't the right word, we're hurt."
"It is the beginning," Willow said wiping away the last tears from her face. "I mean I've known Tara for awhile, but the whole girlfriend thing just started today."
"So that's the Tara you keep mentioning in your sleep," Buffy mummered to herself.
"You're more of a slut than I thought you were," Anya said. "We saw you having sex."
"We didn't have sex, we only...wait a minute. You guys watched that? What happened to privacy?" Willow said.
"No, we didn't watch. Well maybe for a second, but we looked away," Xander said.
"I didn't look away. I saw the whole thing, at least until we left, and let me tell you. You were doing it all wrong. Your hands were in the wrong place, and let's not even discuss where your mouth should have been," Anya said.
"Yes, let's not discuss," Willow said turning completely red. This couldn't possibly be more embarassing. Anya was giving her sex advice. 'This is not happening,' Willow thought.
"Really," Buffy said. "I'm all for gay Willow, but I don't really want to hear about her sexcapades."
"Buffy! There are no sexcapades," Willow said swatting her best friend. Xander had long sense been lost in the conversation, ever since Anya mentioned hands and mouths. "Xander you look a little flushed," Willow said.
"Huh? What? No I wasn't picturing you having sex with her," Xander rattled off quickly much to the amusement of his friends. "You didn't say anything about that, did you?" Willow shook her head no and then she and Buffy burst into a fit of laughter.
"I don't see how any of this is amusing," Anya said dropping the bag of popcorn. "You should be thinking about me and Willow having sex, or me and Buffy, or me and that girl, not Willow and that girl."
"That was almost too disturbing," Buffy said.
" And she's not that girl, she's Tara," Willow said.
"So when do we meet Tara?" Xander asked desparately trying to change the subject from his sexual fantasies to something that didn't make him want to jump in the hellmouth.
"I don't know," Willow said shrugging her shoulders. "We haven't really talked about her meeting my friends, seeing as how we just started dating today. I'm going over tonight, maybe we can plan something."
"We can hang out here, or in my basement?" Xander suggested.
"Are you ashamed to be seen in public with me?" Willow asked a little hurt and confused that Xander hadn't suggested the Bronze. That was, after all, their usual hangout.
"No, I just didn't know how you felt about being seen in public, you know coming out," Xander said unsure is he was still offending her.
"I am out," Willow said. "How many friends do you think I have? I don't care what all those other people think as long as you guys are okay with it. Besides I'm obscenely happy. So I think we should go to the Bronze tonight and celebrate. We'll meet there at eight," Willow said standing and heading to the door.
"Where are you going?" Buffy asked.
"To see Tara. I have to ask her about tonight," Willow said rushing out the door.
"She's got it bad," Buffy said.
"You said it. We're now dealing with a Willow in love," Xander said.
