Chapter... erm... 5? I think? Who cares. Here's an update.

Postby Kerrison » Thu Jun 27, 2002 11:51 am

I dunno what chapter it is. Is that really important? Right now I think not. :-P

All thanks goes to Jessie on this one. JD you are wonderful. You really are. You just...are. :-D I love you so much. You're a great friend and an inspiration. *kisses*

I'm keeping my love-life comments out of this note. Just b/c they're stupid comments. *G*

Enjoy the chapter. Seriously...any comments go to JD. This is her doing. Unless it sucks. Then you can blame me.

**********

Her body sliced through the air and into the water cleanly, barely splashing her red-headed friend at all. She surfaced next to a blue inner tube and used one hand to slick her hair off her face, the other helping her to tread water.

“How’d you sleep last night?”

Willow smiled, having watched Tara’s diving-board antics with an appreciative eye. “Not too bad,” she said, pushing her sunglasses up onto the top of her head. “Better than normal.”

“Good.”

“Did you see your name?” Willow asked, swirling a slender finger in the pool water, pointing to the bottom.

Tara nodded, her arms and legs moving furiously to keep her above water. “That was sweet of you.”

Will blushed. “Dawn helped,” she supplied, reaching out and catching one of Tara’s hands.

Tara’s hands snaked out quickly, grabbing Willow’s arms and yanking the slender woman into the pool waters. The force of her pull had launched Willow almost over Tara’s head and into the water.

The redhead surfaced, sputtering and looking utterly perplexed. “Hey! What was that for?”

“That swimsuit makes you look hot,” Tara smirked, her eyes gleaming. “Thought I’d cool you off.”

Willow shook her head, dislodging the hair from her face. “Takes more than that to cool me off, baby,”

Willow teased back. “I’m always this hot.”

Tara chuckled, splashing a handful of water Willow’s way.

What started as a teasing exchange of a spray of water soon developed into a full out pool-splash-war.

“Truce, truce,” Tara said around breathless giggles.

“Yes! Haha! I am the champion!” Willow gloated, raising both hands in the air and dancing around in the shallow end of the pool.

The blonde watched and laughed at her friend’s antics. “God, I missed you,” she laughed, splashing Willow half-heartedly.

Willow smiled in return, pulling herself out of the pool. “Lemonade?”

“That’d be great,” Tara said, tipping her weight back and floating along the water’s surface. Earlier, during their water-war, she had snagged Willow’s sunglasses and now they shielded her eyes as she watched the petite redhead head inside.

Yum was the only coherent thought Tara could form when she watched Willow stroll across the patio to the house. Though there wasn’t a square inch of Willow’s flesh that Tara didn’t already know by heart, the black bikini left little to Tara’s already over-active imagination. A new freckle or two graced the alabaster skin along Willow’s abdomen.

She closed her eyes, trying to remember a time when she would have been the first to know of such mischievous little freckles. It didn’t seem so long ago nor did it seem so different.

But it was.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Willow’s voice. “I think we got more water out of the pool than we left in it,” she said, noticing the large puddles that swamped the rim of the pool.

Tara opened her eyes, tugged the sunglasses down with a stray finger and looked over the top of them at her friend and former lover. “It was worth it,” she admitted. “I have no complaints.”

Willow nodded. “Lots of fun was had.”

“It was.”

“And now its time for my ritual sun bathing and skin-cancer-obtaining sessions,” Willow teased, setting Tara’s glass of lemonade on the edge of the pool.

“No skin cancer allowed,” Tara replied, standing up and heading to the edge of the pool.

Willow smirked. “When’s your dress fitting?” she asked, trying to change the subject.

“Tomorrow. Noon I think.”

“So’s mine.”

Tara nodded, pulling herself out of the pool. She picked up her glass of lemonade and went to sit on the sun-chair next to the redhead. After a moment’s internal debate, she set her glass down, trading it for Willow’s SPF-hefty sun-block. “Roll over,” she said.

The only reply was a confused look from Willow.

“Roll over,” Tara repeated, her voice only slightly more confident this time. As soon as Willow had shifted to her stomach and was looking away, Tara took a deep breath to settle the dancing butterflies that had taken up residence in her belly.

She loaded her hands with a dose of the cool white cream and began to gingerly massage it into the fair skin of Willow’s back. She heard a sharp intake of breath from her companion. “Too cold?”

“No,” was the strangled reply.

Tara smiled to herself. She knew that voice. That was Willow’s “I know I’m not supposed to but I can’t help myself and I really want something right now” voice. It had been a regular occurrence at the beginning of their relationship when neither one was sure of the other’s wants yet. It was somehow comforting to Tara to hear that voice again and, oddly enough, settled the butterflies in her stomach.

She can feel it, too, but she’s still not sure. Good to know. Tara thought as she worked her way across the entire expanse of Willow’s back. There was definite chemistry between them and it wasn’t purely sexual, either, Tara knew.

She paused at the strap across the back. With a quick flick of her fingers across the eye-hook latches, she released the eye-hook latches in one motion before she continued to spread sun-block where the strap had previously been.

“The sun must be sneaky, getting under the strap,” Willow breathed, her voice ragged.

“Sneaky suns are dangerous,” Tara replied, slipping her fingers, and some sun block, under the spaghetti straps of the suit.

“I can’t do that to your suit.”

“It’s a sacrifice I’ll make knowing that my suit hides my stretch marks,” the blonde said, finding a knot in the muscles near Willow’s middle-back and working it out with deft fingers. With the remaining lotion, she ran her hands down Willow’s arms and then to her hands. Tara paused on each hand, massaging it sensually and allowing their fingers to interlace for a few minutes. When she finished, she stood from the corner of Willow’s deck chair she had stolen, sighing.

She put the sunglasses down on the ground near the chair. “I’m going to take a shower. Get the chlorine out of my hair. Don’t stay out too long; you tend to burn even with SPF 9000,” she said lightly, trying to ease the tension that had been building since she first touched Willow’s.

“Hey! It’s only SPF 30!” Willow looked up slightly, smiling as Tara walked away. Uh…one-piece or not…yummy!

I've been following this story from the start - cause I loved the Shadowy Bridge so much, I couldn't help myself when I saw your name, Ker - and I have to say that there's something about it. I really really enjoy it, and though there's a lot of baby-stories out there these days, I have to say this one is in my 'Top 2'. And this update was hot, in every sense of the way - heat wave on the Summers' home. Heh.

Great work Kerrison and jd, looking forward to more.

Oh yeah, I'll thank Jessy, Kerrison and the academy for this one. So sensual. I'll take some lotion session any day, plus the tension is building. Fear has now given way to cautious optimism of starting again. Take your time, the ride is quite enjoyable! You tell it so well.

Kerry / JD and whoever collaborated on this effort. Awesome story so far. And, gotta say loved the application of the sun lotion and getting to read Tara's thoughts.

And, I think that I already mentioned how adorable Hannah is. Glad that she and Willow are bonding. Tara is such a great mom. I like how you guys write Dawn too.

Great story!!!

Postby Blue77 » Fri Jun 28, 2002 6:18 pm

Hey Kerry,

I was a fan of Shadowy Bridge and this is another great 5 years down the line fic ... I just love them, can't get enough. I love the way you write W & T with all their vulnerabilities but that they never hide their attraction for each other, it's really enjoyable to read.

And I love how close they are getting. Lemonade? How could Willow think of Lemonade when she was splashing around with Tara? Okay maybe I was just thinking of what I would be thinking and maybe that is wrong, very wrong, because Tara belongs to Willow, ah, yep, leaving it there ...

Can't wait until the next update, especially with the dress fittings ... getting changed, being naked, looking hot ... what more could we ask for? Unless you just skip to them being dressed and then being home ... but I don't care, any W/T quality time is good enough ... they're so sweet

Thank you for this fic and your update cheered me up today when it's not a good day for me. And let's not forget JD because Betas are always worth remembering, and if Kerry says you deserve thanks then in my book you do. :)

aww...Blue. Thanks. :-D

I don't think the next update involves dress fitings and nekidness.

I've got a tiny-update that's ready. It just needs JD's seal of approval before posting. So that might go out tomorrow..if not, then probably monday.

I always like to stay an update or two ahead of you guys cause if I get stuck, then I have a place to go back and fix. *G* (I'm telling my secrets!)

So I've got one that's ok and one more that's in the works...where I'm stuck...where I'm waiting for Jessie! (Jessie!! Tell steph to come up for air and that I need you! She has to learn to share!) *G* ;-)

Chapter six.

Postby Kerrison » Mon Jul 01, 2002 11:15 pm

Author's note:

I started my night-job today. I'd like to say that after midnight, the chances of finding food in this town SUCK!

*ahem* Sorry. Lost my composure there for a minute.

So this is chapter six. Don't shoot me. Please.

Um... if nothing else, I'd really like honest feedback on this one. (I'd also like some food...and, frankly, a little lovin'. Unfortunately, we can't always have what we want, can we?)

*sigh* so...here goes with chapter six.

~~~~
“Phone call,” Tara said softly, handing the cordless to Willow.
The redhead was still sunning herself on the deck-chairs near the pool. “Hello?” she said, mouthing her thanks silently to Tara who had begun to clean; gathering the drink glasses and snack wrappers and taking them inside for the trash. “I don’t know, Shay. You know how I told you about Dawn’s wedding? Well, we’ve got some company,” Willow paused, listening to the other woman on the phone before speaking again. Her brow creased. “Hold on a second,” she said and then covered the mouthpiece. “Tara? Do we have plans for tonight?”
“I… I don’t know. I think Dawn and Drew were coming over for dinner. But I think that’s it.”
Willow nodded. “Did you need me to be here for that?”
Tara frowned and shook her head. “Its your house, Will.
Come and go as you please.”
Willow took an extra moment of thought before returning to the phone. “I guess I am free tonight, Shay…Yeah, an hour sounds great. I’ll see you then.”
The phone clicked off, leaving Willow with an odd grin on her face. She sat up and quietly headed into the house.
****
Tara’s bedroom door was open as she towel-dried her hair. A few minutes after Willow’s quiet disappearance, she had decided to shower to remove the chlorine from her tresses. Now the only sound she heard was the house adjusting as Willow moved around in the attic-room. The creaks of the floorboards began to lesson, only to be replaced by the creaks of the attic stairs.
A red-head poked around Tara’s bedroom door. “Would you mind telling Dawn that I won’t be here for dinner tonight?” Willow asked softly.
“Sure,” Tara said, her face hidden briefly by the towel. When she did look up, she was greeted with the sight of Willow in an extremely flattering sundress.
Willow felt her cheeks blush under Tara’s scrutiny.
“You look really nice.”
“Thanks.”
“I mean…” Tara started, taking a deep breath. “I mean, you look really nice, Willow.”
She nodded. “I knew what you meant. Thanks.”
“I … I had forgotten what you…I mean…not that you don’t always look nice but I guess I had forgotten what you look like when you put extra effort into it.”
“Fridays are date-night,” Willow explained. “I had kinda forgotten it was Friday.”
“Date night?”
“Yeah. Tonight there’s a concert in the park.”
“You’re going with the wo-woman who called?”
“I am. Her name’s Shay.”
“Oh.”
“Its Friday,” Willow replied, as if that explained everything.
“I know its Friday but I don’t want …”
“You don’t what? You don’t want me to go out?”
She sighed. “No, I don’t want you to go out with her.”
“I asked if we had plans for tonight.”
Tara nodded. “I know.”
“Do we have plans tonight?”
“No.”
Then what’s the problem? Willow mentally screamed. She took a calming breath, trying to steady herself. She was frustrated. She was nervous. And, in all honesty, she was kinda pissed. “I don’t understand, Tara. I asked you before I made plans. You had the opportunity to tell me that you wanted to hang out-“
“Yeah,” Tara tried to cut her off, only to be forestalled by both Willow’s words and the hand she held up.
“-You even told me to come and go as I please. But now you’re all pouty because I put on a sundress and I’m going on a date? I’m really confused here. I need you to treat me like I’m stupid, I think, because I’m really not understanding what’s going on.”
“I don’t know what’s going on, either!”
Willow sighed. “Then we’ve got a big problem.”
Tara just looked at her feet, mentally commenting on how different the ‘mature’ Willow was. ‘Her’ Willow would have succumbed to Tara by now, overcome with guilt and shame for disappointing her lover. Not this Willow; this adult Willow was the same woman, just so different!
“I’m going on my date, Tara,” Willow said, squatting down in front of Tara. “I’m going to go, and I’m going to have a good time with Shay. And while I’m gone maybe you should think about what the hell happened between us today.”
Tara nodded, looking at Willow with a sad smile just as the doorbell rang. “Have a good night.”
Willow grinned. “I will now that I’ve heard you say that,” she whispered, standing up and placing a gentle kiss on Tara’s forehead before heading downstairs.
Honest feedback?
Postby Chance » Tue Jul 02, 2002 12:07 am
I thought this chapter was great. Willow asked Tara if she wanted her around, and Tara told her she was free to come and go. This seems fairly realistic to me, and I prefer this to the whole "let's jump back into each other's arms" thing. Because in reality? Emotional baggage stays with us, and sometimes, we don't wind up with the people we love in the end just because we love them. This of course is not to say that Willow and Tara won't wind up together, because, this is a Kitten ruled world. W/T ALWAYS wind up together. But I appreciated the realism of it.
