Spark To A Flame

Rating: PG-13 I think...

Disclaimer: I don't own these characters but the story is mine.

Summary: Tara admires Willow from a distance until an accident brings them closer together. some angst, but obviously I wouldn’t do anything too awful to read.

Notes: I'll reply to feedback after I do as promised and watch Milla Jovovich kick some undead zombie arse! That woman puts the FA in FA-IIIIIIINE! (after Amber Benson of course)

9 Second chance:

Willow lay holding onto the blonde’s body tightly, enjoying the freedom to do so as she had wished to do on many occasions and analysed the kiss they had just shared with such gentle need and passion, and as her body calmed from its previously heated state she felt the warmth of Tara’s breathe against her neck, Tara’s body laid gently against her own and Tara’s hand stroking idly at her collarbone as she rested her head on Willow’s shoulder.

The kiss, which the redhead had fantasised about on many occasions was better, she thought, than any kiss she could have imagined and she felt she had underestimated the softness of Tara’s lips and the warmth of her mouth. She had certainly underestimated the blonde’s feelings for her, for had Willow been looking closely enough she would have seen the wistful gazes and the daggers that were aimed at Carl as he held her firmly with his own hands. She would have noticed the thought behind the gifts and gentleness in Tara’s voice when she spoke her name ‘Wil.’

In her effort to try and assuage her own unexpected feelings she had completely missed the very obviousness of Tara’s feelings towards her. Now though, she could see them as though they were written in bold letters on Tara’s forehead.

Gently tapping Tara’s shoulder where her hand rested, Willow gained the blonde’s attention and received the wanted action as Tara looked up. Willow inhaled sharply at the large blue eyes that pierced her own with uncertainty and fear and then she smiled softly, leaning down to place a feather light kiss on those very addictive lips.

She pulled back and saw some of the fear had disappeared, but had only been replaced by more uncertainty and she hated to see such a pained expression on the very face that always made her smile.

“I meant it.” Willow said and received a raised eyebrow in question, she loved that eyebrow, so clear in it’s intent and one of the things that she found endearing about the blonde. “When I gave my thanks I meant it, without you I don’t know what I would have done to get through something so... so blech-y.”

“You can hardly call a car accident blech-y.” Tara spoke for the first time since they kissed, her voice was thick and unusually low sending a shiver down Willow’s spine.

“Seen as how it was me that got in the way of a car I reserve the right to call it blech-y ....and anyhow we’re going off topic.” The redhead answered stubbornly.

“You meant what you said, I’m glad you did because I wouldn't let you take them back. Those words are mine to keep.”

“Yes they are.” Willow agreed and received a half smile in return which she had to respond to. Bending her head she captured Tara’s lips again and held them for a moment, enjoying being able to feel those lips upon her own whenever she pleased. When she pulled away Tara kept her eyes closed as though she was savouring the moment, then opened them and sighed.

“Will... this is all very nice, but the last thing I knew you had a boyfriend and didn’t like girls and....”

“I don’t have a boyfriend.” The redhead interrupted firmly.

“But that message on the machine....”

“That message on the machine I haven't heard, Tara. Have you seen a short man with hair that changes colour and is oddly intimidating for a short guy?”

The blonde shook her head.

“Neither have I, Tara. In nearly five weeks I haven't seen him once and it was two months before that. He isn’t my boyfriend and truthfully, he hasn’t been for a long time I just couldn’t let three years go easily and didn’t want to admit defeat.” The redhead sighed and thought back to that fateful night, the sky was dark, the moon was bright, the air was cold, but Oz was nowhere to be seen. “He was the reason I was out there that night. We were meant to meet to talk about our relationship and I waited like.... forever. He stood me up.”

Tara’s eyes widened and her mouth gaped then she frowned. Willow knew this to be the blonde’s ‘annoyed’ face and she found it endearing that Tara would display such an emotion for her sake.

“That he would do such a thing is beyond me.” Tara shook her head at his callousness.

“Well he did and I’m not mad at him, how can I be? I know this doesn’t sound right, but despite all the pain and discomfort I’ve been in these past few weeks I can’t help but think, so what? I’ve had some other, more important stuff to deal with up here.” Willow tapped herself on the temple with her finger and looked up at Tara to make sure she understood.

Tara smiled reassuringly and nodded, she understood now Willow’s moodiness, the way she would clamp shut or disappear into her own head and Tara understood that for a few weeks Willow had been having a non-stop babble debate in her head about how she felt for her. She also understood that Willow still needed time to get used to these new feelings.

“....and as for me not liking girls.... that is still true. I don’t like girls I like A girl.... a very blonde, very pretty and as I recently discovered, very good kisser kind of girl....”

“I get your point.” Tara interrupted blushing profusely.

“I don’t usually use so many words to say something that little, but do you get it at all?”

Removing herself from on top of Willow, the blonde pulled the redhead into a sitting position and propped herself against the pillow then pulled the redhead back down onto her chest, a position they had adopted many times for Willow to settle her exhausted body and rest. Tara gently stroked the soft red hair with her fingers and sighed.

“I do.”

As the two women held each other and the room grew silent, the blonde thought she could almost hear what was going on in Willow’s head and after a while the redhead’s breathing became slow and steady indicating that she was asleep. Tara lay studying the smaller woman who laid peacefully against her chest. Her lips still tingling from their heated kisses, the redheads imprint still burning on her mouth. Her head ached from trying to piece together the significance of what had passed between them and for all of Willow’s gentle words or reassurance she had a twinge of insecurity that couldn’t be washed away.

**

Willow awoke with her head still resting on Tara’s shoulder, she was surprised by the blonde’s presence as the sun had clearly gone down and the house seemed still. Usually when she woke up Tara had had to leave and she would have a sense of emptiness which would only be assuaged a little by the knowledge that the blonde would be back soon.

Glancing up at Tara’s face the redhead was stuck with an overwhelming feeling of tenderness that tightened her chest and made her bite her lip at the intensity of it, she had never seen Tara sleep before and the sight before her made her want to weep and laugh at the same time. The mixture of emotions were so powerful, her right hand involuntarily touched and stroked her fingers along the soft skin of Tara’s cheek. Her index finger grazed the blonde’s lips, remembering their softness and skill from when they had kissed her earlier.

Tara stirred lightly, rearranging her body so she was half on her side and half on her back, her right hand resting on the redhead’s stomach, her lips parted slightly and a stray lock of hair slid in front of her eye.

Willow softly stroked the hair back and felt it’s silkiness against her fingers, she trailed her hand down the blonde’s neck gently, enjoying the feel of skin beneath her digits.

Blue yes fluttered open as Tara stretched her body, her hand grazed along Willow’s stomach when she extracted herself from the redhead to ease out the aching in her limbs at having been laid in one position for too long. She yawn wholeheartedly placing the back of her hand over her mouth and straightened out some wayward hair that was refusing to play nice then she turned in the bed and was startled to see Willow watching her in the darkness of the room.

The blonde reached out behind her to the lamp that was sitting on the bedside cabinet and when she flipped the switch both women squinted at the contrast of the darkness to the light that now filled the room.

“Hi.” Willow smiled softly, resting her casted arm on her left hip as she turned as best she could to face Tara more fully. She received a warm smile from the blonde in return.

“How come you’re still, I mean not that I’m complaining because hello I’m all big with the Tara stay-age, but shouldn’t you be at home?”

“Well if it hadn’t of started snowing and your mother hadn’t of insisted that the roads were in no condition to be driven on, then I probably would be.” Tara explained. “Donny’s in your dads office on the fold out bed, mom’s in the guest room and I’ve been assigned Willow-watch.”

“Willow-watch?” The redhead scrunched up her nose and chuckled at the phrase.

“Your moms words not mine, she gave me specific orders. If you have to pee, eat, drink, have more blankets, or come up with some insane request, which she said you were famous for, then I Tara Maclay have solemnly sworn to take on the responsibility of ensuring that said needs are met.”

“She made you take an oath?”

“More or less.”

Willow laughed then held her hand over her mouth at the noise she was making in the silence of the night, the atmosphere around them seemed still as they lay in the cosiness of the room.

“Well, I’m in need of Tara snuggles right now do you think I could possibly get some?”

“Absolutely.” The blonde said with certainty then gathered Willow into her arms, the redhead sighed into the embrace and enjoyed the feeling of Tara’s fingers gently tickling her back through the thin material of her shirt.

“Tara?” Willow spoke after a few moments of what she could only describe as ‘bliss’.

“Yeah sweetie?”

“I think.... I think you’re a big part of my second chance....”

Tara frowned a little not really understanding and urged the redhead to go on.

“At thanksgiving I said I have a second chance and that I don’t intend to waste it. I realised... I mean really realised that it’s true, and I don’t, but I want you to be here with me because this second chance wouldn’t mean that much if I didn’t have you to share it with. I’m a little scared, a little excited and very very confused, but this is what I want.” Willow blushed the colour of her hair, but looked directly into the blonde’s eyes she then buried her head in the crook of Tara’s neck and hid shyly.

Tara felt her eyes watering and sniffled, trying to regain her composure she tightened her grip on the smaller woman and sighed.

**

Tara stood outside the Rosenberg home, the unrelenting cold causing her to shiver as she waited impatiently for her mother to say her goodbyes. The day had given way to night and there was an eerie calm as the wind whipped mildly at the leafless branches of trees. Donny came up besides his younger sister and wrapped a large arm around her slender shoulders to help keep her warm as he watched their mother chatter on endlessly.

“She’s cute.” He said nonchalantly although he knew his sister would get the meaning behind his words.

“Yes, Willow is cute.” Tara agreed deciding to try and avoid the road this conversation would inevitably lead. “I’m not gunna take the bait, I’ve had this conversation with mom already.”

“Yes but you hate that mom’s always right so you tend to deny whatever she’s accusing you of.”

Tara nodded her head in agreement, but her happiness at the previous days events prevented her from being able to come up with a feasible defence and instead she poked him in his ribcage

The journey home went quickly as Tara disappeared into her own mind, lost in her own thoughts, unable to process anything except that Willow had kissed her. Willow’s lips had explored her mouth and she had in turn explored Willow’s. her body had been pressed against the redhead’s, she had felt the heat and acknowledged the want in the woman that squirmed beneath her and that woman had been Willow.

All the time she had spent in the park, admiring, studying, fantasising, wishing and wanting it was hard for her to believe that finally, she had gotten what she wanted and something within her told her it was all a dream, it wasn’t real and someone was going to shake her into wakefulness at any moment.

Tara climbed out of the car on auto-pilot, not really paying attention to anything around her and she didn’t notice the shared glances between mother and son.

When she entered her apartment, made some coffee, took a shower and clambered into bed. Nothing went through her mind except Willow and her kisses.

**

Willow sat in the doctors office, her patience running thin because the doctor was late. Her casted leg stuck out from beneath a large blanket, the stirrup of the wheelchair holding the brunt of it’s weight and her casted arm hanging heavily in a sling around her neck. She was tired and cranky and just wanted to see Tara.

She had woke up that morning to a very cheerful and very irritating Mrs Rosenberg, the older woman was enthusiastic because this particular check up was to monitor her daughters recovery and she wanted Willow to be out of those darn casts and at least have improved mobility before Christmas, which was just under a month away. At best this appointment could shed some light on when those overbearing casts would possibly be removed.

Looking at her daughter Mrs Rosenberg studied the angelic face intently, a realisation that she could so easily have lost something so precious struck her and a wave of guilt made her sway in her seat. All those times she had been working out of town were times she could have been home with her daughter, watching her grow into the young, intelligent, independent, attractive woman she had become. Mrs Rosenberg realised that perhaps she didn’t know what every mother should know about their daughters and she was truly disappointed with herself.

Willow shifted uncomfortably under her mothers intense gaze. The older woman’s eyes pierced her own and she glared back in annoyance, her mood turning from bad to worse at having to wait for the doctor and her mother’s strange ogling. Her mind occupied itself with the only thing it had been thinking about for just over a month , blue eyes, full lips and a half-smile that could melt an iceberg. She thought about their kisses and Tara’s body hovering gently above her own, the sensuality of the womanly body brought a fierce need spiralling through her that she didn’t recognise. Never had the need been so great to be so close to someone. Willow cocked her head to the side, that statement making her brow furrow at it’s honest truth. She had felt something for Oz, but it hadn’t been this intense.

The redhead thought back to all her mornings in the park, she had caught herself many times secretly wishing that the blonde girl would be there. There had only been two times that she hadn’t and on both occasions a disappointment ran through her that she quickly disregarded and ignored.

Now Willow acknowledged that disappointment and shook her head at the naivety she had displayed and she knew that although she had never been attracted to any woman before, she was attracted to Tara now, and that attraction ran deep, possibly deeper than she could imagine.

The doctor finally entered and cleared his throat to gain the attention of the doting mother and the daughter who was lost deep in thought. Mr Rosenberg stood to shake the doctors hand then waited until he took his seat behind a large oak desk.

“How are you feeling Willow? Is the pain any better?” The man got straight to business.

Throughout the appointment the doctor asked a lot of questions and every time he received an answer he would write something on a piece of paper in front of him. Willow found that irritating because she wanted to know what was being written, and after a million questions and as many answers the doctor finally came to his conclusion. One that the made redhead sigh in relief.

**

Tara hoarded her way through the Rosenberg home straight to Willow’s room after giving Mrs Rosenberg a rushed greeting, she knew of the redhead’s hospital appointment and wanted to know how it went. Without knocking she opened the bedroom door to see Carl helping Willow with her exercises, her immediate mental response was to send daggers at him through her glare, but instead she smiled politely and took her usual seat next to the bed.

Willow smiled at Tara knowing what was going through the blonde’s head. She held out her hand and took Tara’s in her own then squeezed reassuringly. Placing the customary bag of muffins on the cabinet next to the bed Tara winked at the redhead and waited as patiently as she could for the young man to finish his caressing.

Carl stood and stretched his own limbs then turned to Willow after a few moments of exercising her right knee.

“I think that’s it for today, you seem to be doing really well, you won’t need me here anymore when you start your physiotherapy lessons. Keep doing isometric exercises and I’ll see you in a few days.” He smiled and picked up his coat sending a polite nod Tara’s way before exiting the room. Both women watched him retreat then Willow turned her attention to the new arrival.

“Hi.” She beamed giving a full Willow-smile.

“Hey.” The blonde’s smile mirrored that of her friends.

“So, I have good news and bad news.” Willow stated “Which do you want first?”

“Uh... the bad news?” Tara said hesitantly hoping that it was the redhead over exaggerating.

“The bad news is, whenever you enter a room that I’m in you have to kiss me.”

Tara’s eyebrows shot up in surprise her smile threatened to envelope her face as she leaned over and gently pressed her lips against Willow’s. After a moment she pulled back and picked up the bag of muffins handing it to her chocolate addicted friend.

“If that’s your definition of bad news I want more of it!”

“Well, I’m sorry, but that’s all the bad news I have for today. The good news is.... I get my casts off next week.” The redhead’s smile threatened to take over her face and she beamed at what the doctor had told her in his office. “He said I still won’t be able to walk and I’ll still be pretty sore, but the physiotherapy will help with that in time.”

“So, you mean next week you’ll be cast free? No more big casts with their... casty-ness?” Tara waved her hand at the offending objects and stared. “I’ll see your arm and leg and they’ll match your other arm and leg?”

“Yeah that’s pretty much the gist of it.”

“Ahh! I’m so happy for you!” Tara jumped off the chair and sat beside Willow on the bed then swooped down and wrapped her arms tightly around the redhead’s shoulders. “Maybe next week your mother can stop hiding the knitting needles.” She chuckled.

“Hey, these casts are itchy!” The redhead defended herself and pulled back from the embrace with a pout gracing her lips.

Tara half smiled as she studied the enthusiastic Willow-pout, but her view was suddenly obstructed as those pouting lips pressed against her own and she barely had time to respond before the rosy lips pulled away to reveal a smiling redhead.

“That’s the second time you’ve done that?” Tara said in thought completely oblivious to the reason why, not that Willow needed a reason to kiss her.

The redhead shrugged her shoulders and blushed. The blush was creeping down her neck and she had to do something to avert Tara’s attention. Reaching behind the blonde she grabbed an unread magazine and thrust it into Tara’s hand.

Having received her orders Tara took up her usual position with the redhead resting comfortably against her. Together they laid enjoying each others company.

russ: You’re previous assumptions about Willow and Tara’s lives in the story, while I agree they were premature, weren’t far off. Willow’s parents are away a lot and she is left to her own devices, a failing relationship that she can’t make work(maybe she didn‘t want it to work), drives her to sink herself into her career. Yes she has a good relationship with her parents, or at least better than the one on the show, but it is still strained from their lack of presence while she was growing up. As for Ira and Donny ‘bonding’ I thought it would be a nice take on things seen as I don’t think (to my knowledge) that it has ever been done before.

Yes Willow’s past relationships haven’t been good, that was partly her own fault for being so career minded, but now, with Tara’s help and her realization that she has a second chance will make her see that all work and no play just won’t do!

The title of this story ‘spark to a flame’ does indeed apply to Willow’s ‘epiphany’ moment, but down the line in this story it will apply to something else as well, that’s why I found the title very fitting. ;)

Thank you russ :flower

wimpy0729: Perhaps Willow’s curiousness was satisfied, but perhaps the kiss just made her curiouser. There are still a lot of questions Willow needs to have answered, but I’m sure the kiss answered most of them :eyebrow

Tempest Duer: Do you like Sundays? :hmm

Disastered: My theory is that computers are strictly female because they can be very temperamental, it’s like they feel the need to be bitches once a month (I'm allowed to say this, of course, because I myself am female.) :angel

Yes their parents, although a huge pain in the derrière, are actually making their lives much easier by getting on so well because everyone knows mother-in-laws can be devils! But at least Willow knows Sheila likes Tara and vice-versa.

How’s it going with the postage? Are you commenting more? I hope you are because The writers who post fics here like to read feedback no matter how short or silly it may seem to you it’s still wonderful to them :bigkiss

Thanks again SJ you’re as consistent as day and night.:flower

Thanks trashxmyxheart

alysagoddess85: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!! wee!! :lol made me belly-laugh :laugh

ExtraFlameyWT: It’s ok I get what you meant, sometimes when you read things that the characters have done that doesn’t seem to fit it leaves you thinking, hmmmm?

BUT... Willow and Tara kissage? yummmm! hehe ;)

Veiled isis moon: :lol I pretty much rock huh? I wish that were true, but just for saying so... you pretty much rock too... more, in fact, than I do!:p

Viximon: You have stopped saying ‘upload soon’ I liked it when you said that it was cute! Yes I’m sure that without her casts Willow will be having way to many Tara-smoochies but that’s a good thing :)

Willster: My way of describing things is so simple, I wonder sometimes if I’m missing some things out, but I get frustrated with books that describe things endlessly until I get bored and have to skip a few lines to move onto something more interesting. I hope my way is more clear, than that of others. I read your little ‘personal information’ page (I was being nosey) you like Alanis Morissette(spelling?) Ironic is one of my favourite songs! (I wish there was a smilie with a guitar but there isn't so this one will do. hehe!) :cool

Behindhereyes: Flattery will get you everywhere kim! Or at least it will with me. Willow getting her casts off in a week could mean relationship progression ;) let’s hope and pray and wish.... for smoochies that lead to more!:heart

silentinformer: You read it twice?? wow! I wrote it and I haven’t even read it once lol ok, yes that was a fib! I guess everybody would be majorly surprised if their exact dream girl just up and kissed them... we can dream though huh? I doubt you’ll be patient, but I know you’re trying ;) :kiss1

Traveler4069: Thank you very much, but no we’re not there yet... I think... what day is it?!:hmm

If I missed anyone out I apologise, I am a bad bad bad bad... uhm.... totally forgot what I was saying :crazy

You're very much forgiven for future lateness on your story for two reasons:

1. I'm going out of town as well, it's a snowboard trip with a friend as opposed to family I never met. I did that too recently though and it could get pretty akward sometimes so best of luck with that. Anyways I hate when I come back and there has been all these updates I missed. In retrospect it is probably good because then there's no waiting but I just hate to think I could've read it sooner. Heh it's this weird thing.

2. You didn't leave it at a cliffhanger. See that could end badly for me because I'd be on the slopes and be contemplating what is going to happen and then boom! tree. Which would be much to Sonny Bono, and also not fun.

3. I lied when I said two. The main reason I'm forgiving you is because you rock :bow

Ah yes I can't believe I never realised that computers are females! Mine has all sorts of moodswinging (I hope that doesn't indicate it learned its habits from me). Great analysis. At least I wont get as mad with it now.

Okay so actual stuff about the story. I love post realised emotions flirting because they can be more obvious about it. All the flirting and shyness is making me very mushy and swoony. If only we could all have a relationship like Willow and Tara. I think the world would be a much happier place.

Also liking bad news. I hope the bad news gets, uh...badder because that could lead to more sexiness.

Oh and postage is going a bit better. I still don't do it alot but I've done it more with your encouragement. Not to be repetitive or anything but you rock :bow

Hope all goes well on the trip, can't wait for the next chapter.

Dude.. it feels like its been forever since I've read an update.. I don't know why.. I SO thought it was LAST Wed that I read your most recent update.. I'm weird.. so yeah I've been here thinking.. wow, she's like 3 days late with an update.. when in reality.. it's been only 3 days since you updated... and wow I REALLY don't know what the point of this was... ahem.. damn rambling..

I liked this update :D Well I like all the updates really.. this one was just as good as all the others. So cute.. the interaction between Tara and her brother. Everyone SO knows about their feelings for each other haha. It's great. Yay for her having a good and loving family in this fic. Both of them really. That's how it should be. I also liked the whole cute jealousy of Carl :p So Tara. Well who wouldn't be jealous though, eh? ;)

I can't wait to read more of this. I don't think any of us can get enough of their snuggles and total cuteness :D

Hey there!!

Don't worry, you're way of describing stuff is just perfect, it flows so easily. It's nothing like those too long descriptions that make you fall asleep in the middle of the sentence. It just makes us feel as if weR'e there with the characters.

No problem with being nosey, I sure don't mind. you're probably the only person that bothered looking my personal info. I indeed liked Alanis Morissette (you spelled it right!). I've been a big fan since... forever.. I started playing hamronica cuz of her ;) She's canadian, she rocks!

Can't wait for another update of your story, I'm addicted!!

P.S: I'm pretty sure you're more interesting than a piece of wood!! ;)

Sorry Shandem this next update will be late because I’m out of town for a little while. You can’t have run out of fiction to read because there are hundreds of them! It will be great when Willow and Tara start dating the awkwardness will be so cute, the after-date part isn’t cute though... it’s yummy hehe! So yes, everyone likes lovin especially you and I :angel

Disastered: I hope you enjoy your snowboarding trip, I wish I were going snowboarding instead of visiting distant relatives hehe! I’m opposite to you because I would like to go away and come back to lots of updates then I wouldn’t have to wait for them. I’m not very patient!;)

The world would probably be a much happier place if everybody had a relationship like Willow and Tara because nobody would have an excuse to be grumpy :)

I hope you enjoy your snowboarding trip. Be safe xXxXx

P.s you rock too!!!!

Thanks SJ

VixenyTarashot: Hi Ashleigh, Wow you totally reminded me of my best friend with the whole ‘dude’ thing it was hilariously funny! That word just cracks me up!:rofl

Everybody does probably know about Willow and Tara’s feelings for each other, they have it written on their foreheads practically. As for them having nice families that’s way better than anything :joss could come up with and exactly what both girls deserve huh?

Tara’s jealousy is cute I agree, but you know that she SO wants to tell him where his hands should really go hehe!

Tempest Duer: How about Mondays? Nobody likes Monday surely!

Willster: :lol you peeked at my info too huh? Well a saw a piece of wood once that was painted yellow with a red smiley face on it... that seemed pretty interesting to me.

As for Alanis Morissette(yay for the spelling), apart from being totally yummy her songs are great too so I can see why you like her. I didn’t know she was Canadian though. Me being English I don’t pay attention to that kind of detail.... I really just think she RoCkS! woooo! :cool

Rating: PG-13 I think...

Disclaimer: I don't own these characters but the story is mine.

Summary: Tara admires Willow from a distance until an accident brings them closer together. some angst, but obviously I wouldn’t do anything too awful to read.

Notes: Ok, so I told you this was going to be late because I was out of town, but I got back early... so here it is :shock

Merry Christmas and any other holiday you maybe believe in. :peace

10 Out With The Old In With The New:

Tara lifted a box from the floor and placed it on the kitchen counter in Willow’s home, the old house was beginning to look a little better as the boxes were slowly emptied of their contents and the contents were tidied away as best they could be. Tara had started emptying the boxes, that she had repeatedly tripped over and vowed to see to, yesterday and was continuing the task today, but she had yet to tell Willow.

Opening the current box she began taking out it’s contents and unwrap them of their paper covering which had prevented them from getting broken, she frowned at the object that she held in her hands and was at a loss of what to do with it as a framed photo of a younger Willow with a brown haired man held each other close, smiling broadly. Tara presumed this to be Oz and she took in his features, finding herself shaking her head at what had become of the young couple.

Deciding that perhaps this box should be stored away, possibly FAR away, she wrapped the photo up again and placed it back in the box, taking it outside to the garden shed where she had earlier disposed of tools and an old bike.

The blonde tripped over the step of the wooden garden shed and chuckled to herself, no boxes in the way and yet she still managed to topple over. Turning to go back to the house she suddenly stopped and gasped, her hand held her chest as she inhaled loudly at having been startled.

“Can I help you?” She asked regaining her composure and walking towards the back door of the house, passing the intruder knowing full well who he was.

“I knocked on the front door, but nobody answered.” He explained. “I was looking for Willow Rosenberg, but funnily enough, you don’t look like Willow Rosenberg. Does she still live here?”

Tara stopped her hurried walk towards the door and took a long hard look at the man standing before her, his small frame and oddly coloured hair making him seem impish. She wanted to be rude to the young man, but it just wasn’t in her nature. Sighing, She thought for a moment about what she should say. What would be best for Willow right now?

“Wil does still live here, but she isn’t here at the moment maybe I could take a message?” That, she decided, was the best course of action. That way she could warn Willow of the young mans presence and prepare her for his visit, which would undoubtedly be taxing to her limited energy supply.

Oz eyed the blonde suspiciously taking in her soft features and ice-blue eyes, then nodded his head “Could you tell her Oz stopped by and I’ll be back later?”

“I will.” She agreed and retreated into the house.

Quickly donning her coat the blonde then secured the house and managed to trip over one last box before she started on her journey to Willow’s parents’ house. The bitter cold made her shiver violently as her large parker coat covered her delicate body against the harsh sting of the piercing breeze, but against such a force it could only do so much and the end of her nose along with her cheeks began to colour pink.

Her journey through town took her along the streets of Sunnydale and she found herself gravitating unconsciously towards the park. She hadn’t been there for a while and she realised that she missed it’s quiet serenity, it’s peacefulness and most of all it’s ability to conjure up the her fantasy of the woman she now knew to be Willow Rosenberg.

Seeing her favourite tree the blonde couldn’t resist sitting down and giving herself a moment, one which she realised she needed as her mind processed the events of the past five weeks. Her memory played the image in her head which she had of Willow strolling down the gravel path of the park, the stones crunching beneath her feet as she walked gracefully towards the spot on the grass which she always retreated to, her angelic features troubled by some unnecessary problem and her red, fiery hair blowing in the wind.

Tara had imagined many times what it would be like to kiss such a beautiful woman and be kissed back by her with as much need and want as her own, she suddenly found herself smiling at the thought of Willow’s ‘dear-like’ expression and embarrassment when she had first kissed Tara. The blonde hadn’t been expecting it, never in a million years, and yet, it had happened and as she had predicted her feelings became stronger and more difficult to hide, she feared that if Willow saw the true extent of her emotions she would run and take cover, because they were explosive and Tara felt ready to burst.

She knew, without a doubt, that she was in love and had been since her first glimpse of fiery-red hair.

Grabbing the bag that was resting on her lap Tara emptied it’s contents and picked out her pen and paper, for hours she was lost in the world of her fantasy, her characters lives being dictated by her imagination.

**

Willow laid asleep, sprawled out on her back, her favourite book resting on her chest and it rose and fell with her even breathing. Tara sat in the chair beside the bed, her pen and paper still the source of her entertainment as she wrote things down frantically. Her brow was furrowed in concentration and the rhythmic breathing of the woman next to her filled the quiet room.

Willow stirred lightly, her body aching having not been moved for a while and she stretched, still not fully awake. Her mind registered the scratching of pen against paper and she involuntarily smiled knowing that Tara was there, writing, waiting patiently for her to wake up.

Turning in the bed the redhead felt something slide down her chest and she caught it with her hand, peeking at her favourite book she blush and threw it behind her, making it thud against the carpeted floor as it landed. She made sure her arm and leg were comfortably resting on over-stuffed pillows and watched as Tara concentrated on her task wholeheartedly. Her pen moving at lightening speed, suddenly stopped and the blonde’s gaze rose to meet Willow’s. Smiling Tara immediately put her pen and paper aside and moved to sit on the bed, leaning down gently her mouth captured Willow’s in a gentle kiss.

“I thought you were going to sleep forever.” The blonde said softly as their lips parted, her thumb stroked gently over Willow’s cheek leaving the skin with a light tingle. “I’ve wanted to do that since I came into the room, but I thought it wasn’t fair since you were asleep and wouldn’t be able to enjoy it with me. I also tried to take that book away from you, but I think you growled at me.” The blonde joked and received a playful slap from the blushing woman.

Willow smiled goofily and took another kiss from the blonde’s lips then tapped the bed where she wanted Tara to lay so they could cuddle.

Doing exactly as she was ordered without any protest, Tara kicked off her shoes and took up her favourite position next to Willow, their bodies moulded together and both women sighed into the embrace.

“Sweetie?” The blonde spoke softly after a few moments of bliss, unsure of how to approach the subject of Oz’s visit.

Nodding her head to indicate that she was listening Willow waited for Tara to continue her whole body tingled and her head swooned at being so close to the blonde, but she knew somehow from the blonde’s tone that something wasn’t quite right.

“I was at your house earlier and someone stopped by....”

The redhead sat up to look at Tara and frowned “Why were you at my house and who stopped by?”

“I was just clearing some stuff away for when you moved back in, with you having your casts taken off next week I figured it wouldn’t be too long now and..... and I probably should have told you, but I wanted it to be a surprise of sorts... I-I...”

“It’s ok, Tara” Willow smiled reassuringly. “You were just being thoughtful and well, you were just being you. It’s such a ‘you’ thing to do that I’m not surprised by it and I’m feeling all fuzzy inside at how great you are.... you’re all with the greatness.” The redhead beamed.

Tara chuckled lightly and blushed “You have a large amount of greatness yourself Wil.”

“Good, now tell me who stopped by... it couldn’t have been Santa because he’d be like, twenty-two days early!”

“Well, i-it wasn’t Santa, but I have been imagining this guy as being fat with a huge amount of facial hair.... although.” The blonde dragged the word thoughtfully, “I think he could pass for being an elf.”

Willow snorted with laughter and swatted Tara’s arm “So I’m guessing it was Oz?”

“It was,” Tara nodded “He asked if you were home, but I thought it was best to warn you he was coming before I told him you were here. He said he’d stop by at your house later.”

“It’s going to take me a while to get used to this.”

“What?” The blonde bit her lip a little worried that she had done something wrong.

“My feelings being considered, nobody ever really bothers to ask if I’m ok with things they just assume I am and you.... here you are dealing with this situation with the sole purpose of making sure I’m comfortable with it.” The redhead wafted her right hand while she spoke and it was quickly captured by Tara’s and held gently.

“Maybe I’m just trying to get into your pants?” The blonde slapped her free hand over her mouth at Willow’s gasp. The redhead sat up to stare at Tara and she burst out laughing, removing the hand that obscured Tara’s lips.

“Is this?.... I think it is .... your sense of humour’s showing through!”

Tara started laughing too and apologised, shaking her head at herself.

“Don’t apologise I like it, it’s ....... it’s...... quirky.” Nodding her head Willow decided that word described Tara’s sense of humour perfectly. “Quirky.”

Trying to take the focus away from herself as her cheeks burned the blonde went back to the previous subject.

“So Oz, what would you like me to say to him?”

“Well I-I guess you could just tell him where I am, he knows where my parents live and I’ll prepare myself to be all dominatrix-y and mistress of sarcasm.”

“Ok sweetie.” Tara kissed the top Of Willow’s head and removed herself from the bed to grab her coat and go back to the redhead’s house.

“Uh... Tara?” Willow fidgeted.

The blonde nodded her head to indicate she was listening as she donned her coat and hat.

“Could you come back later?.... when he’s gone and maybe... stay over?”

Tara took a hard look at the fidgeting redhead and her heart melted at the seemingly strong woman before her clearly having trouble with what she had to face. Kneeling down beside the bed, the blonde took Willow’s hand in her own and spoke softly.

“I’m here for you and if you don’t want to see him then you don’t have to. As for staying over, I’ll have to get my moms permission, but I’m sure I can swing it.”

Willow smiled as the blonde’s humour showed again. “Quirky!”

**

“What time is it on your watch?” Tara asked her mom for the hundredth time that evening. The minutes seemed to be moving in slow motion and her restlessness was about to make her go insane.

“It’s two minutes passed the last time you asked.” Mrs Maclay frowned at her daughters odd behaviour. “What’s gotten into you? You’ve been acting odd since you walked through that door.”

“Nothing!” The blonde answered unconvincingly, her eyes glaring at the clock willing it to go faster.

Putting her book down that she had been reading Mrs Maclay studied Tara’s face and shook her head.

“Is this about Willow? Has something happened or is something going on that’s causing you to behave neurotically?”

Tara shot her mother an annoyed look, “Nope everything’s fine. It’s fine fine fine.”

A few moments of silence passed between mother and daughter. Mrs Maclay was trying to decide what tactic was best to use for this sort of interrogation and Tara was still staring at the clock that wouldn’t move quickly enough for her.

Tapping Tara’s leg lightly from her position on the couch the older woman chuckled at the deadly glare shot her way.

“Tara, sweetheart.... has something happened between you and Willow?” The gentle ‘please share with me’ approach was the one she was going in with first.

The blonde sighed and shook her head, thinking for a moment. “We kissed.” She said simply then heard the words echo in her head and her eyes widened, it wasn’t just a dream any more it was real, Willow was real.

The older woman raised her eyebrows at having gotten an answer so quickly and her eyes widened at the confession. “I knew it!” she exclaimed then her smile grew sheepish at Tara’s irritated glare. “How do you feel about that?”

“Well I... I feel great about that why wouldn’t I? But I have all these doubts in my head that are telling me it’s not real or that I’m just something to pass the time through her recovery, even though I know that’s not true these doubts are still there, and plus, Wil’s ex boyfriend is with her right now probably trying to charm her into giving him another chance.”

“Do you think Willow would give him another chance?”

“She.... she said she wouldn’t, but I don’t know. It’s these doubts y’know. They’re killing me.” Tara’s eyes began to well up with unshed tears and she wiped at them with her sleeve. “... and if she isn't giving him a second chance she could be hurt or upset or angry and I’m not there to help.”

Anna scooted across the couch towards her daughter an scooped Tara into her arms, rocking her lightly as the tears began to fall.

“Sweetheart you can’t be there for her every minute of the day, and maybe she needs this just as much as you do, now she’s faced with the opportunity to go back to what she had or to start afresh with you she’ll see that the grass really is greener on the gay side.”

The blonde chuckled at her mother through her tears and prayed that she was right. Having kissed and held Willow so freely she knew she couldn’t give that up without a fight.

**

Tara had called Willow before setting off to the Rosenberg home to ensure the redhead still wanted her to come over. Donny had offered her a left, but she refused and instead walked in the freezing cold. The snow below her feet seeped through the lining of her sneakers and sent a chill through her whole body, but the bitter weather brought with it a kind of peace where she could think and sort her thoughts whilst everyone else stayed in the warmth of their home.

Stepping across the road towards the street where the Rosenberg’s lived, Tara wrapped her coat tighter around herself and watched as her breath exhaled white when it collided with the cold air and she sniffed, not able to feel if her nose was running because the temperature had made it numb.

She neared the driveway and could just make out the silhouette of a figure as the sky turn dark and the street lamps were the only source of light. The blonde pushed at the driveway gate and squeezed through the little gap she had allowed herself then walked cautiously towards the front steps of the large house. The silhouette grew clearer and Tara sighed in relief recognising the man she had seen earlier in the day at Willow’s house, but there he had seemed at ease. Now he seemed troubled.

She stopped in front of his slouched frame as he sat on the top step of the porch, his head in his hands and he didn’t realise she was there. Tara stood for a moment at a loss of what to do, should she just walk straight passed him? But she knew that wasn’t a possibility, it wasn’t who she was. Instead Tara dropped her bag and it landed with a thud causing the young man to look up quickly, startled. The blonde then sat down beside him and felt his eyes studying her face.

“That’s a beautiful moon.” She said simply after a few moments, pointing at the object of her attention that was visible through a gap in the clouds. He looked up and shook his head.

“It gives me a wiggins ever time there’s a new moon rising.”

Tara turned to face him and frowned, the moon was an odd thing to be scared of. She chose to ignore it and venture on....

“Is it the moon that’s troubling you?”

He shook his head once again wondering who this woman was, her sincerity calming him somewhat.

“Are you a friend of Willow’s?” He asked, glancing sideways at her then back up at the black sky.

“I guess you could call me that, yes. My name’s Tara.”

His head snapped round and his eyes widened at her, then he quickly composed himself and stood.

“It’s nice to meet you.” He said quietly then began walking down the gravel driveway. After a few steps he stopped and turned to face the blonde as if trying to find his words, he looked and the rocks beneath his feet then seemed to come to some sort of conclusion in his head. “Take care of her,” and with that he opened the gate and was gone.

Picking up her bag Tara looked over at where the young man had been stood, a frown etched into her brow and contemplated his words. Sighing to herself she stood and knocked on the Rosenberg’s door.

“He is definitely odd.” She said to herself then looked over her shoulder before smiling at Sheila as she opened the door.

To Be Continued....

well, everybod's gotta learn sometimes...right? And Oz was a little bit late to understand that he lost Willow a long time ago. How is it possible, that a so called boyfriend does not recognize his gf being in an accident weeks ago anyway??

Well, i hope he is out of the picture now. I liked what Tara's mom said about the "greener gras on the gay side". made me chuckle.

Great update.

Great update. I'm glad to see Willow finally and firm(I hope) put an end to her relationship with Oz. I also hope that he is truly walking out of her life as a gentleman and not going to cause problems later. A strong supportive Tara is just what Willow needs along with hugs and kisses.
