"Grave" final scenes 1st draft

by Craven de Krack

Scene: The hilltop where the final battle took place. Buffy and Dawn are visible in the background, arms around each other, strolling happily. Xander turns to Willow, his arms around her shoulders. Tears stream down Willow's face and her eyes are downcast.

Xander: That was pretty close for a while there, Will. We thought we'd lost you to the Dark Side, what with destroying the world and all.

Willow: I know (sniffle), my bad.

Xander: We'll make it better, Will. That's what friends do. We help. We deal.

Xander's jaw ripples in the sunlight. Willow tries to lift her eyes to meet his. Her tears seem to be drying.

Xander: There's just one more thing, Will. The - girl - thing. I'm a broad-minded guy but, it's just not right - for you, Willow. (Willow looks at him in awe.) We go back a long way and, I know it just isn't you, y'know?

Willow (tiny voice): You think?

Xander smiles warmly.

Xander: Yeah. And, Willow, you know, you've always been the one - always, you understand?

Willow melts.

Willow: Oh, Xander!

She sinks into his arms and they kiss.

SMASH CUT to a darkened bedroom. Willow gasps and sits bolt upright on the bed, eyes wide, chest heaving, a river of sweat on her forehead.

Willow: Oh, God, no! It's all wrong!

Pan back. A form lies in the bed next to her. It turns over, we see it's Tara. Her hair is messy. Her sleepy eyes open.

Tara: You okay, baby? Bad dream?

Willow rolls her eyes.

Willow: I couldn't even begin to describe it.

Tara reaches out to Willow. They kiss, gently. Willow relaxes, catches her breath.

Willow: It's the spell, we can't do it yet, it'll make everything go wrong. We can't bring Buffy back yet, we're not ready.

Tara: More research?

Willow: Uh-huh.

Tara: Tomorrow, 'kay?

Willow nods.

Willow (whispers): Tomorrow. 'Night.

Tara: 'Night

They kiss again, Tara turns over, goes to back to sleep. Willow stares at the ceiling,. A beat.

Willow: After all, tomorrow is another day.

Willow turns over, spoons with Tara. Pan up. A warm breathy sigh is heard. Could have been either of them. Or both.

Craven's Season 6 Finale Shooting Scripts Pt 2

Postby Bagheera » Sun May 19, 2002 5:35 am

Executives thought the 2nd scene in the first draft was "ambiguous" and requested a revision. News of how much money had been spent on the "Firefly" pilot had also leaked out by this stage. Soooo.....

"Grave" Final scenes 2nd draft

by Craven de Krack

Scene: The final battle. Willow is sillhouetted under black boiling skies. Rays and bolts of purple and green energy fly from her hands in all directions. Trees explode. The earth churns. Cut to Buffy, Xander and Dawn cowering in a hole. Giles and Anya jump into the hole next to them. They have to shout to be heard above the chaos.

Xander: What happened?

Giles: Willow is too powerful for us. We were unable to drain her power.

Xander (horrified): But you said you could. You said you could do it!

Anya: Yes, he did. But he wasn't up to it.

Giles: My contrition dwarfs the impending apocalypse.

Buffy gives Giles a withering stare.

Xander: Holy moley, now what do we do? I'm gonna die, I just know it!

Giles: I fervently hope and pray that for once you are right.

Buffy: Take it easy guys. It's always darkest before dawn.

Dawn looks offended.

Quick CUT to the cave mouth in Africa. Spike, his quest complete, exhaustedly trudges towards the cave mouth and a blazing African sunset. He licks his lips.

Spike: Soon, Slayer, soon.

CUT back to the hole and the intrepid five. Dawn has an inspiration.

Dawn: Buffy! Wish it better!

Buffy: What the huh?

Dawn nods in Anya's direction.

Dawn: Wish! Buffy, please! And make it a good one.

Buffy gets it. She grabs Anya.

Buffy: I know you're in there Anyanka. Now come out!

Anya: No!

Anya struggles.

Buffy: Dammit vengeance demon, this is no time to be coy. I had an affair with Spike! (Xander and Giles look aghast) He said he loved me, he treated me with contempt. He made me feel like dirt! He tried to RAPE me! (Giles winces, Dawn is appalled) And he LEFT ME! (Buffy shakes Anya and slaps her. Anya suddenly morphs into Anyanka. Buffy grabs her again.) That's better, now listen carefully....

The next lines are only partly heard, as the camera pans back and whining balls of energy hurtle past. There are intercut close-ups of Buffy speaking

Buffy: I wish that Willow...and nobody got .....and that Warren would go...and that we still remember everything that happened, even though it didn't...(Anyanka starts to panic, but Buffy has her by the throat and has the other hand clamped over her mouth)...and finally I wish that Spike would....Now, you got all that? (Anyanka nods. Buffy slowly removes her hand from Anyanka's mouth.) Anything to say?

Anyanka (small frightened voice): Done.

FADE TO WHITE. Complete silence. Focus on a cloud. Pan back to blue skies and white fluffy clouds. Pan down to the scene of the battle. It's quiet. Birds twitter in unshattered trees. The five slowly stand up and look around. Cut to a small figure in the distance, zoom in. It's Willow. She's dressed normally, her hair and eyes are normal. She looks tiny. Reaction shot of the five Scoobies, not sure what to say. Willow smiles shyly.

Willow: Hi guys.

Cut to the Sunnydale mortuary. Tara's body lies under a thin sheet. Her eyes open, she sits up slowly, absent-mindedly rubbing one hand on her chest over her heart. She looks around her.

Tara: This is weird.

SMASH CUT to a noisy night club. It's ladies' night and a rowdy drunken crowd is in attendance. Pan to Warren, dancing badly in a cage, dressed in tiger skin underpants, a dog collar with lead and nil else. Women crowd around his cage, splashing drinks on him, flicking their cigarette ash at him and mocking him without mercy.

Warren: Wh-

SMASH CUT to the five Scoobies. Giles looks at Xander with disdain.

Giles: Wrong as usual, Xander. Just my rotten luck.

Buffy: Hey Willow. Sorry I was snippy gal before about the vengeance.

Willow: Hey that's okay, I was way out of line.

Buffy: No, you were in the right. I would have done the same, if anything had happened to Dawn.

Dawn beams. Willow frowns.

Willow: No Buffy, I shouldn't have gone all badass wicca, I lose my temper too easily. Well, that's what - (she suddenly remembers something) gotta go!

Dawn smiles and hugs Buffy, watching Willow stride away at a great pace. Buffy looks at Dawn.

Buffy: Chocolate malted?

Dawn: Yes, please!

D'Hoffryn suddenly appears in a puff of smoke. He is unbelieveably angry at Anyanka, who has morphed back to Anya. He towers over her menacingly.

D'Hoffryn: I don't call that a proper use of the vengeance wishing power! Surrender your amulet!

Buffy: D'Hoffryn, get a job.

Giles advances. He reaches around Anya's neck, removes her amulet, which is smouldering.

Giles: I think we'll hang onto this for safekeeping if that's all right.

Buffy: And set foot in this town again and I will kick your ass.

D'Hoffryn harrumphs in disgust and vanishes.

Cut to Willow, running through Sunnydale. Cut to Tara walking down a street, now wearing surgical scrubs. Her feet are bare and she walks with effortless grace. Cut to Willow, she sees Tara on the other side of a railroad crossing. Cut to a bright light, a horn and bells sound. Cut to a shot of Tara standing behind a level crossing barrier as a train rushes by. Cut to her POV, showing glimpses of Willow on the opposite side of the crossing. The train goes, the bells stop, the barrier lifts. Pan to a high shot as Willow and Tara run toward each other, meet in the middle of the railroad tracks, embrace, kiss and walk off before the next train comes.

Buffy turns back to Dawn.

Buffy: Double malted?

Dawn grins hugely and they walk away arm in arm. Xander takes Anya's hand.

Xander: Anya, I think we need to talk.

Anya: Would that be before or after we have sexual intercourse?

Xander: Both, I hope. Y'know, I think we have family problems. Both of ours are unbearable...

Anya and Xander walk off. Giles swings the amulet by its chain around one finger and walks away whistling a merry tune.

SMASH CUT to Africa. Spike is lying on the ground writhing in pain. Pan back. The blunt end of a long stake (it's actually a cricket stump) is protruding from the seat of his pants.

Spike: Bloody hell! Where did THAT come from?

He reaches down and in obvious agony, pulls the stump out of his bottom. He screams in pain, holding the stump with its wicked steel-shod point before his astonished eyes. Slowly he drags himself to his feet. A look of rage diffuses over his face.

Spike: Slayer. Your day will come Slayer, sooner than you damn well think! Your day will come!

Spike takes a step forward, the pain is unbearable and he collapses face forward on the red African earth.

Spike: Okay, maybe tomorrow then. After all - ow - tomorrow is - ow - another day.

BLACK OUT

Spike's voice: Ow, fuckin' 'ell.

Credits roll

Grr..argh

Craven's Season 6 Finale Shooting Scripts Pt 3

Postby Bagheera » Sun May 19, 2002 5:38 am

The 2nd draft came back with "are you high??" scrawled across it in yellow crayon - hmmm.Okay....

"Grave" Final Scenes 3rd draft

by Craven de Krack

Scene. The battle is over. Giles, Anya, Buffy, Dawn, Jonathan and Andrew are standing in a bleak, shattered landscape. Jonathan's spell to disguise himself as Tara to distract Willow long enough for Giles and Anya to drain her dark magic energy has succeeded. Jonathan has morphed back to his old self, not an improvement. Willow has run away to hurl herself off Sunnydale's highest cliff. Xander has run after her to talk her down - I'm not writing that bit, I have some standards. Jonathan plays absently with his magic bone. Andrew digs him in the ribs to make him stop. Giles' face is tight with self-hatred.

Giles: A comprehensive victory, in the end.

Anya (not getting it): Yes, we saved the world again. Yay us.

Buffy (not getting it either): Yeah. C'mon, Dawn, let's get outta here.

Giles (controlled, but white with rage): You just don't understand, do you? You - we've utterly destroyed Willow. Xander - God help us - Xander, is after Willow, probably with his own smutty little agenda. I am utterly appalled, at myself most of all. Why have we always been incapable of sensing and responding appropriately to Willow's distress? We've saved the world, but what is the point if we can't make it safe for the people who deserve to live in it?

Buffy: Lighten up, Giles. I had my epiphany, maybe you should try one.

Giles: Go home, Buffy. I refuse to lighten up until Willow is safe, whole and loved.

Buffy and Dawn leave, arm in arm. Dawn is silent, thinking about what Giles has said. Buffy is happier, looking around, enjoying life, marvelling at the wasted earth and the blasted trees. Cut back to Giles, deep in thought. He turns to Jonathan and Andrew.

Giles: Now, which of you two nasty little pillocks has been experimenting with temporal flux?

Andrew and Jonathan try to point at each other. Andrew makes an "oh, come on" expression. Jonathan slowly raises his hand.

Jonathan: Me.

Giles: Right. Come with me before I eviscerate you. Anya, if you have decided to restart your career as a vengeance demon, you might care to start on him (indicating Andrew).

Giles takes Jonathan by the ear and strides off purposefully. Andrew turns to Anya.

Jonathan: Ow!

Andrew: That was just a figure of speech, right?

Anya: Oh, no, Mr. Giles is very literal. But relax, I won't do anything to you.

Andrew (ever so relieved): Oh, wow.

Anya: I'm a vengeance demon. I only take vengeance on men who have betrayed their lovers. And you've never had a lover. Your mother's vacuum cleaner doesn't count.

Andrew (mortified): Oh, man!

Anya: That sort of thing is quite dangerous, you know. Why, one time (Andrew looks like he is going to be physically ill)...

CUT to Giles and Jonathan at the geeks' van. Jonathan has an armful of papers and a bowl.

Giles: This is everything? And a standard latin incantation?

Jonathan: Uh-huh.

SMASH CUT to Giles speeding along in his red BMW with the top up, Jonathan in the passenger seat looking unhappy. Very quick establishing shot of Buffy's house. SMASH CUT to Willow and Tara's bedroom. It's dark and empty. Enter Giles and Jonathan. Giles looks around the room. Close-up of the bullet hole in the glass. Giles takes off his glasses.

Giles: Ah, that's handy. A neat little twelve-inch square should do, just behind the glass. Go ahead, as we discussed.

Jonathan takes Giles by one hand, lights a paper with the other, drops it into the bowl, he waves the magic bone over the bowl. Giles replaces his glasses.

Jonathan: Fenestra, fenestra temporalis...

Cut to downstairs. The front door opens, enter Xander, supporting Willow. She is crying uncontrollably.

Willow: Xander, please, I need to see Tara now!

Xander: Shh, shh. You can see her tomorrow. Rest now.

Willow: I can't believe I left her like that.

Xander: You weren't yourself, Will. You haven't been yourself for a while.

Willow: What are we doing here anyway? Buffy will never let me stay.

Xander: Willow, I'm going to take you to bed.

Willow (utterly horrified): No! You can't!

Xander (trying to manoeuvre her upstairs): Trust me, Willow, it's what you need.

Willow: No! No! It's Tara!

Xander: What?

Willow (sobbing, tears flooding like never before): I can't, not in that room. Tara - her blood is still on the carpet, her smell is still on the sheets. I can't sleep in there!

Xander looks sulky. He relents and guides her to the sofa. Willow sits, curls into a tiny ball, her back to Xander.

Xander: I'll go tidy up. Change the bed.

Willow: Don't.

CUT to upstairs. Jonathan is still doing the spell.

Jonathan: ...erat demonstrandum.

Jonathan stops, looks at Giles, nods. Jonathan is sweaty and nervous. Giles steps forward to the window. He holds a finger in front of the broken glass, moves it back slightly. There is a tiny (CGI) ripple in the air. Giles steps back, tense, takes his glasses off again, watches.

Jonathan: What now? (Giles does not react.)

Cut to Xander coming up the stairs.

FADE TO WHITE Fade in to the bedroom in bright daylight. It's the scene in "Seeing Red".

Tara: Mmmm... Xander.

Willow: Okay, not quite the response I was fishing for.

Tara: No, he's here.

Tara goes to the window overlooking the backyard.

Cut to the dark bedroom. In front of the window, the air ripples, and the curve of Tara's belly appears. Reaction shot of Giles, fearful. Cut to Xander coming down the corridor. Cut back to the sunny bedroom. Tara turns back to Willow. Cut to the darkened window, Tara's belly floats out of sight. Cut to Giles, sigh of relief, replaces his glasses.

Cut to the bedroom in daylight, the bedroom window overlooking the backyard TINKS, a stray bullet cracking the glass. Cut to the darkened bedroom, the air in front of the window RIPPLES violently. Cut to close-up of the far wall as a bullet SMASHES into the plaster, splitting off a big chunk.

Cut to Tara's face.

Tara: Your shirt...

Willow: Tara?

Tara: Please, take it off, I want to see your lovely br- what was that?

Tara turns to the window, Willow comes to her side, notices the cracked glass, frowns.

Tara (looking out and down): Oh my God, Buffy!

Tara and Willow rush out of the room.

Cut to Xander, opening the darkened bedroom door, WHITE OUT, and he steps into his own grubby room. Half eaten pizzas and crushed beer cans strewn everywhere. He looks baffled.

Cut to Buffy's yard. Buffy lies on the ground, bleeding.

Willow: What happened?

Xander: Warren shot her!

Cut to Tara, looking at the wound. She takes Willow's hand.

Tara: Willow, help me, we have to do this right away.

Willow (panicking): Oh, Tara, I can't!

Tara: I'm here Willow, it's okay, I can't do it without you.

Willow calms down, holds Tara's hand (linked, as in "Hush"). Tara stretches her other hand over Buffy's wound. Close up of Tara, concentrating. Cut to close-up of the wound, as the bullet slowly draws forth and the skin seals over. Pan to Buffy, eyes fluttering open, colour coming back into her face, taking deep breaths. A siren yelps nearby. A door slams, running feet.

Cut to a Sunnydale PD officer entering the yard, gun drawn, tense. There is a second officer behind him, covering.

Police Officer: We have a report of shots fired in this area. Have you seen anyone?

Xander: Yeah, guy called Warren, gun nut, running around with a Saturday night special, letting off a few strays.

Police Officer: Which way did he go? (Xander points. The officer looks at Buffy lying on the ground) Is she hurt?

Tara: She fainted when she saw the gun. She'll be fine, we're all good here. (The police officers nod and run off after Warren. Xander looks at Tara, furious.)

Xander: What do you think you're doing? Willow can't do -

Willow: No. Xander. (She puts her arm around Tara, holds her closely. Tara looks at Xander, evenly and defiantly)

Buffy (weakly): She's right Xander. Tara just saved my life.

Xander: But magic....

Tara: Is magic. And it can be safe. (She looks at Willow) I'll always be here for you.

Willow: I love you so much. (She kisses Tara, deeply)

CUT to the darkened bedroom. Jonathan looks at Giles.

Jonathan: Now what do we do?

Giles: We leave, it would be unseemly to do otherwise. (Jonathan gives an uncomprehending look) This is not our bedroom, and we are uninvited. (Jonathan opens the door and exits.)

WHITE OUT, fade in on Jonathan and Andrew, side by side in a police holding cell. Jonathan takes in his surroundings.

Jonathan: Aw, no fair!

Andrew: What are you talking about? See. I told you he wouldn't abandon us. (He gestures. Cut to Warren, handcuffed and bruised, in an opposite cell. Jonathan shrugs.)

Jonathan: At least we didn't get eviscerated.

Pan over to two hulking prisoners being led by. One of them leers at the two geeks as he passes.

Andrew: Not yet, anyway.

Cut back to the darkened bedroom. Giles glances at the bed as he exits the room, WHITE OUT and fade in on a London street in daylight. It's raining. Giles has a copy of "The Times" in one hand. He looks up at the sky. He is rapidly getting soaked.

Giles: Well done, Giles, no umbrella as usual. Too many years in California, I dare say. (He removes his glasses, raindrops stream down his face. Shielding hilmself as best he can with his newspaper, he makes for shelter.)

Cut to the darkened bedroom. Close up of the bullet hole in the wall. A wisp of plaster dust trickles out of the hole. Pan over to the bed. Tara wakes up, turns on the light.

Willow: Tara? What is it?

Tara: Did you hear something? (Willow listens. Tiny smile.)

Willow: Your heart beating. (Tara places a hand gently over her heart, listens. A beat).

Tara: Get used to it.

Willow: Oh, I intend to.

Tara: Buffy's still scared about me making you use magic. And Xander. (Willow makes a phhh gesture at the mention of Xander's name).

Willow: You gonna talk to them?

Tara: Tomorrow. (Smiles at Willow, moves in closer.)

Willow: After all...

Tara: Tomorrow is another day.

They embrace, Tara flicks out the light.

BLACK OUT. END OF SEASON 6.

Footnote: "After all, tomorrow is another day" is of course the last line in "Gone With The Wind". I hold to the theory that W/T's relationship is based on the relationship of Scarlett O'Hara with her beloved Tara in GWTW. Scarlett = "Red (a nickname Spike has used)" = Willow, Tara = Tara. Scarlett/Tara is a love that transcends all else, it is the love from which Scarlett draws her strength, her attachment to "the red earth of Tara". Magical stuff. And even better for W/T, Tara loves Willow right back :grin

Wonderful

Postby Iamyouknowyours » Sun May 19, 2002 12:46 pm

I like the last one best. If only one of them were real. Sigh ....

Xander: Buffy, this is all about fear. It's understandable, but you can't let it control you. 'Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to anger.' No wait, hold on. 'Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to the dark side.' Hold on, no, umm, 'First you get the women, then you get the money, then you...' okay, can we forget that?

I so wish they were true. Season finale this Thursday - can you send the scripts to Joss and make him shoot those instead pretty please? I don't think I can watch the real event, and I don't even know what happens!
