"Is Dawn up yet?" Buffy asked, pacing the room. It was still early morning, and Tara had just received news in which Willow was trying to comfort her.
"She's not Buffy, but before you get all 'slayer-ish' with her, just remember, she woke up to an empty house, she was so scared, and the first thing Dawn said to Tara in that moment in time, was 'i wish Buffy was here."
Ok so Willow stretched that a little, not the first thing, but most definitely the most important. Feeling guilty, Buffy sat back down, and swirled her water around in the glass.
"I just don't know what to do, if she hadn't of...whatever happened last night, she'd be pregnant right now, and my mom would freak, and she'd have to put a hold on her whole future and it's just too much-"
She started to break, she stared at the bottom of her glass, tears running silently down her cheeks as she scolded herself in her head.
"Buffy, please stop panicking, and i'm sure Dawn will have a reasonable explanation, just don't be too harsh, please."
Willow tried to reason, only for Buffy to bite back.
"Don't be too harsh? Willow she could have put herself in a huge amount of danger last night, if Tara hadn't heard your cell phone ring, then what? I-I don't like the thought of her hurting Will, i should have been here, instead i was patrolling, and for what? a few Vamps with nothing better to do, i've screwed up this time, i know it...."
"Buffy?" Whispered a small and timid voice. Buffy rose out of her chair.
"Dawn....wait a minute Dawn-Will are you and Tara gonna be ok?" The slayer looked at Tara, tear-stained cheeks and an emotionless expression.
"I-i dunno, i'm gonna take her home, will you be ok? We can stay if you want-"
"No, i've gotta do this, and i can't be too harsh, too Buffy-like, i got it Wills, and thanks again, without you guys i dunno how i'd cope."
Willow smiled for the first time that morning.
"No problem, i'll call you later Buff."
With that, Willow took Tara's hand and took her home.
Buffy turned back to Dawn, and instead of the striking young woman, she saw her lil sister, a lil girl, or as plain and shy as, with her glass eyes, and her wondering expression.
"Dawnie, c'mere, sit down."
Dawn did as asked, but never taking her eyes off of the slayer.
"Dawn, who did you...sleep with?"
Bowing her head, the teenager answered, muffled by the duvet cover that surrounded her.
"I-i didn't sleep with anyone, i.....i can't talk about this, you're angry." Dawn's eyes started to fill again as she picked up the rest of the duvet cover.
"I wanna talk to Tara, please let me talk to Tara?" she pleaded, begging almost as she rose from her chair and to Buffy's side.
"Why can't you tell me?!"
Buffy's voice turned harsh as she stood up, also close to tears.
"You can't tell me, your big sister? Dawn, i'm supposed to be the person you run to when you need help, because i will, i wanna, i wanna understand, i wanna protect my lil sister....." Her voice turned small and wispy as she sat back down, and started to fiddle with the spatula in the draw of utensils.
"Buffy...i'm sorry, i wanna tell you, but i know you too well, you'll freak, have a go at me, find the guy and hurt him, then come back and say 'its for your own good' well guess what-it wouldn't be! i need my sis and 'i'm all ears' Buffy, not bad ass slayer Buffy, can't you understand that? the moment you came through the front door you had your slayer face, where's my sister?......" Dawn cut herself off when she realized Buffy was hurting, hurting bad. The tears, the shakiness; Buffy never shook, she couldn't afford to fear very often, if not at all.
"Oh, God, Buffy i'm sorry, i never meant, well i did mean it, but i want you to be my sister before i tell you anything, no slayer in the building ok?"
Buffy looked up and threw the spatula aside.
"Sure Dawnie, sit down, talk to me........"
The teenager pulled up a chair and took a deep breath.
"Well i know what you're going to ask me, all 50 million questions, so i'll just tell you it all, save me a night, cos i'm tired, and well it's 8am, so i really have a lot of time, just ironically not enough, which is too ba-"
"Dawnie.." Buffy warned. "Willow isn't here, so just straight forward Dawnie answers and stories please."
Again Dawn took another deep breath, and began.
"You remember the ball? Well a guy that i've been trying soo hard to get with, well he was there, and as you know, me, you, Anya-we all danced, but Tara went to the toilet, and i was gonna follow, but he came to me. It was great though, having him have an interest in lil old Dawnie, and well we wen't outside, one thing led to another-"
"Dawnie! outside?! with a regular guy?! he wasn't even your boyfriend!"
The teenager attempted to hide underneath her duvet, only for Buffy to pull it off and usher her to carry on.
"Buffy i swear we used, p-protection, and once i started feeling ill, i didn't know what it was, i got a couple of tests and they came up one positive and one negative, i naturally assumed i wasn't because they're quite accurate right? for one so say i wasn't i kinda just left it at that........"
Buffy was fuming, but didn't show it, she just wrapped Dawn in her arms, as Dawn let the tears fall, and didn't hold back. 'I'm gonna get this guy, wait, what's his name?'
"Shhh Dawnie, did you even know his name?"
"Of course, i think i love him, Buff, Joshua, Mr and Mrs Derek..."
'Joshua Derek, you're gonna pay big time.....'
Meanwhile.......
Three men, one supposedly the leader, steps out onto the daylight covered streets of Sunnydale, the other men, are hidden from such horrific conditions.
He is tall, and slim with greyish hair, and a slight limp, although his eyes are a decoy, as they are hollow, and such a timid person might find themselves entranced.
He carries on walking, every fifth step he looks behind himself, scouring the streets for trouble. He feels his stomach rumble as he turns to the bakery where his eyes are glued to a gingerbread man, he licks his lips and calls for the other men.
"Listen you creeps, see that luscious lookin' woman behind the counter, you can have her, if you get me a person of my own......." He points at the stack of cookies and signals for them to make their move. Desperately they cower under the shade, as they take out as many people as possible before approaching the shop keeper.
"Yesss, you guys will do nicely, i'll soon have her back, nothing can stop me now!"
"Er, boss?"
The tall man scowls hard and cold at the creature before him.
"WHAT!?"
"When we find her, what do we do? kill her?"
The man laughs softly, before reaching for a stake in his back pocket.
"You lay one finger on her head of hair, and i swear by the sun's rays i will burn you until you cry out for God........"
The creature scuttles back, picking up the tray of gingerbread men, before bowing and apologizing for his outcry.
"I will attempt first, if all fails, you will take second sweep, got it?"
Both creatures nodded in unison.
"Good, because that slayer will have you in a jar before you can say 'stake', so you'll stay back, she's my problem, and my only solution, i will get her back, she has a family that needs taking care of...."
Maclay Residence........
"Baby, you want some tea? i got your favorite, herbal-y goodness here...."
She had no answer.
"Tara?"
She decided to go back into the living room where she left Tara resting, only to find a couple of sheets and a warm cup. The redhead picked up the cup and felt its radiating warmness, and held it to her cheek. Putting it down, she cautiously made her way upstairs seeing the bedroom light on. She turned the corner and walked inside. There she found her life, her soul, laying in between the covers, sobbing, clutching an 'hello kitty' t-shirt.
"Tara?" Willow whispered softly, approaching the bed and sitting on the edge. "Baby you're crying, please turn around..."
No reply, so she sat there, in the dim light, watching the angel before her, sobbing gracefully on the left side of the bed.
"Do you remember when we met, you, you were wearing your 'hello kitty' t-shirt, and you had spilled your mocha..."
"I remember-" Willow scuttled closer to her wife, and rested an arm around her, stroking her hair with her free arm.
"I loved you then, not as much as i do now, but i loved you, so deeply, i knew it, but it wouldn't register in my head, but i felt it, and somedays i look back on that, and i realize that if i didn't accidentally trip on my own shoe lace and ram your mocha into your favorite t-shirt, in which i'm still real sorry for- i would never have met you, known your name, seen you smile, married you...have our Emma...my god...."
Willow never knew how deep Tara's love ran, she knew it was forever, but depth, this was depth, the way Tara still kept that shirt, that was even deeper.
"I never knew i'd have to do this so soon, but i'm gonna have to...."
Willow got up and walked over to her wardrobe, where she rummaged for a good 2 minutes in silence, feeling Tara's eyes burn into her back.
"Willow what are you looking for?"
"Oh, its just something, don't worry...yet."
Tara sat up and wiped her eyes and jumped off of the bed. Reaching for the redhead she smiled. 'She looks so concerned, i love so her sooo much, i can't be taken away from her, not now, not ever...'
"Aha! ok, found it, close your eyes sweetie."
Tara did just that as she felt soft hands guide her to the bed, where she sat down and was told to open them.
She found Willow kneeling on the floor, looking straight up at her.
"I was planning on giving you this for your birthday, but i feel it's more appropriate for now."
The redhead pulled out a necklace, holding a rectangle shaped flat pendant which read 'Key to my heart, open my soul'.
"This is a special pendant, it harbors a special power, telekinesis, so if you were ever in a bad situation, or needed help, or just plain bored and thought 'Hey where's Will? i know i'll talk to her inside her head' you can. You just have to find the power behind it in order to use it. When one of us wears it, it can call the other person, and we can speak telepathically, its for piece of mind, and i think i've spoken enough for you not to respond-Tara?"
She looked into Tara's eyes, and saw the brightest blue ocean in the whole universe. Behind the seas she saw sparkles, white sparkles of magic and a loud thumping in her head.
"Tara?"
"Hey Willow..."
It didn't take long for the blonde to find her sources, she smiled, yet she was talking, talking to Willow, as if her eyes could speak, they spoke volumes.
"Tara! you did it! that's so cool! I thought it would take time, but wahoooha! ok sorry, that was uncalled for, but wow...."
"Will are you aware you babble in your head?"
Willow nodded and smiled, as did Tara as she shook off the trance. Even though the temporary happiness put a smile on the blonde's face, her eyes showed concern, deep and troubled.
"Tara....there is no way your dad can take you away from me, for one its against the law! we're married and have a baby, and its against your wishes, its darn right evil and illegal! Trust me, we have the slayer, and two witches, 1000 odd year old Vengeance Demon, and logic. Logic is the key. Baby please, try not to lose sleep, by the way when is he coming?"
Tara's head sunk lower into her lap, and she mumbled, "Friday."
Willow counted the days on her fingers, only to realize it was Tuesday.
"3 days?! Damn it, ok, no worries, we'll just go with the flow, but i swear he will not be taking you, i love you so much, you complete me, i need you....I....Tara....."
Before completing the sentence, Willow stood up, powered to the brim, as she took one last look at Tara, and grabbed a bag from under the bed.
"Tara, stay here, comfort Emma, i'll only be gone a 2 days max, all i need is these weapons...."
She gestured toward the bag.
"Willow! you cannot leave! what is wrong with you? where are you going? who are you planning on hurting with those-those things?!"
Wilow sensed the anger and fear in Tara's voice, and comforted her in the only way the knew. The flew to Tara's side and pushed her back against the bed, kissing her deeply, i kiss that sealed a promise, a reassurance, fear and protectiveness.
"Tara, i swear, i'm not gonna kill anything or anyone, i'm going to get another person worthy of a fight, someone with immense power-"
"Buffy knows, she's gonna help, so who?"
"Her name's Faith......."
Hope it fills in ok, lemme know!!
