I'm back with an update, a little overdue but hey, sue me

ATM we have the Royal Adelaide Show going on this week in Adelaide and today was the only day i was able to go. I had the pleasure of takingmy little cousin as my uncle is in hospital having more scans and checks and what not for his cancer so i was more than happy to take him. It was really good to see him so happy and i can only hope that my kids are half as great as what he is.
Saule77 - Yes well i should think so, doubting me

I'm not one to take a sterotypical view on anything, i think sterotypes are crap and it gives people the wrong impression about stuff most of the time. I kinda like leading the readers to believe one thing is gonna happen and then taking them down a different path, i'm glad my unconventional style is working for you
TaraBeaRS - No need to fret yet my dear, anything angsty is a fair way away, you can tell by how angsty i can get from my last fic which seemed all nice and fluffy till the end. I couldn't just write a fic and not leave my kittens not hanging from the side of a cliff for some perios of time now could I?
Okay i think thats enough of the personal ramblings and the replies, onto what you're all really here for, the update

So without much further ado...

Disclaimer – Willow and Tara and any other character that appeared in the syndicated television show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is property of Joss and Mutant Enemy, I’m only borrowing them and am not making any money off them. All the others are mine though. Also the title for the fic is a Michelle Branch song so credit goes to her and part names will be named after various songs I like that fit nicely with the story so credit will be given there.
Summary – Set slightly in the future, 24-year-old Willow and Tara run into each other, it’s set mostly in New York so no Sunnydale or hell mouth or anything. Just good ol’ fashioned romance.
Part 9 First Date (Blink 182)“Argh!” Cursed Willow as she threw another blouse onto the growing pile on her bed. Her first date nerves were just starting to peak as her mind kept racing to the lovely blonde she’d be taking out tonight and she wanted to make sure she looked her best. She’d been getting ready ever since she got home from work, and that was an hour and a half ago and still she was no closer to being ready for her date which was in only half an hour.
“Oh god, how does my hair look?” An equally panicked Sam walked into the bedroom from Willow’s en suite bathroom. She was there preparing for her own first date with the Xerox girl. She and Willow had planned to help each other in a hope of cutting some of the time of their getting ready stage. However due to the eccentric nature of them both at the moment, it clearly wasn’t going to happen that way.
“Great.” Willow replied, not even looking at the brunette as she flashed another blouse in front of her before chucking it onto the ever-growing pile on her bed. Sam stopped a second, noticing the mini Mount Everest on Willow’s bed and glared at the redhead.
“You mean none of those blouse’s go with those pants?” Sam asked as she looked at Willow standing in a pair of grey slacks and a bra.
“You’re right it’s the pants.” Willow said hurriedly as she threw them of and went back into her closet to get a new pair out. Sam giggled before hurriedly jogging into the kitchen before returning with a toothbrush and heading back into Willow’s bathroom.
“Ah Shit!” Willow heard the brunette yell out from the bathroom and could hardly contain her giggles when Sam walked out with a big wet patch over her breast on her own light blue blouse. “Do you have any idea how long it took me to pick this blouse out, I’ll never be ready in time.” Sam sighed in defeat before shuffling over to go through the mountain of Willow’s blouses on the bed.
“Well it makes me feel better that I’m not the only semi naked person in the room.” Willow stated as Sam removed her shirt and threw it onto the pile.
“Yeah well at least I have pants.” Sam shot back as she picked out an apricot blouse and checked how it looked in the mirror before sighing once again and throwing it back onto the heap.
… … … …
“Alex hurry up and get out of the shower before I continually play flush the toilet on you.” Tara screamed, banging on the bathroom door.
“You could always join me if you want.” Alex yelled back through the door, Tara could picture the big goofy grin on his face right about now.
“I’ll be sure to tell Hayley that when she gets here for your date.” Tara yelled in response and heard nothing for a moment but eventually heard the taps being turned off, followed by a towel clad Alex out of the bathroom.
“About time mister.” Tara glared at the young man who just smiled as he walked by.
“You aren’t the only one going on a first date tonight missy.” Alex stated and giggled at the panicky mood that Tara was in. It was still nearly two hours before Willow was due to knock on the door to pick her up and to him that seemed like plenty of time.
“Yeah well let me put it into prospective for you, you guy, you’ll be ready in five minutes, me girl, me wont be ready at all and be panicky mess for my big date.” Tara put into laman’s terms for the young man.
“Well you know what Frankie says.” Alex stated with a grin.
“How the hell do you expect me to relax, this is Willow we are talking about here.” Tara wasn’t quite sure what her friend wasn’t understanding.
“What do you think Willow will think if you’re all panicky and sweaty for the date?” Alex asked trying to make sense, though his words only seemed to panic the blonde girl even more.
“Oh my god, you’re right. She’ll hate; she’ll call me smelly Tara at work and never want to see me again. You really know what to say to calm a girl down don’t you mister.” Tara spat rather hostilely at her friend as a new wave of panic set in. Alex had seen almost as much as he could bare and eventually Tara’s red face just drove him over the edge and he started laughing hysterically. Tara was furious her friend found this whole matter rather humerus before his damn infernal laughing became infectious and she felt herself start giggling like a schoolgirl. Before she knew it they were both doubled over in hysterics, neither really knew what they were laughing about any more, not that it mattered, they finally started to feel a little relaxed and hoped it was the start of a good night for the two of them.
… … … …
“I have no clothes.” Willow boldly stated as she looked at an empty closet. Sam stared at absolute disbelief at her and the room full of clothes that had been strewn about the place.
“What do you mean, there has to be close to a hundred articles of clothing thrown about the place in here.” Sam replied in amazement.
“No one hundred articles of crap is more like it.” Willow stated and slumped back down on her bed in defeat.
“Look Will, you’ve spent plenty of time around Tara before and she’d never said anything about your obvious lack of fashion sense. I mean I kinda think it’s a common bond the two of you share.” Sam pointed out to her friend; she herself had found a nice red silk blouse in the heap to go with her black slacks. As soon as Sam had picked it out, Willow had instantly cursed the fact that she’d not picked it out herself.
Sam threw about a few clothes and pulled out an ankle length, black skirt with a simple flower design down one side and a matching white blouse to go with it. She threw them to Willow and told her to put those on and hurry up about it. Willow quickly slid into the clothes and studied herself in the mirror. She smiled at the sight, feeling a little more confident that Tara would like what she saw, Sam knew though that Willow could show up naked and Tara would still like it, in fact Tara would probably like that a lot.
“See it wasn’t that hard now was it?” Sam stated, as she looked Willow over to confirm her selection was the right one.
“Yeah well it would’ve been easier if you didn’t take my favourite blouse.” Willow playfully pointed out.
“Hey missy, you threw it onto the junk pile.” Sam was quick to respond.
“I threw everything onto the junk pile.” Willow stated once again, making a very good point. Sam just shook her head and giggled.
“Oh my god, how nervous are we?” Sam stated as they moved into the main part of the apartment and slumped down onto the couch.
“We’ll definitely be better of for the night though.” Willow replied as she took a deep breath to recover from the exhausting task of picking out an outfit.
“What I don’t understand is why you’re so nervous, I mean you do this like every week.” Willow pointed out to her friend who was obviously feeling a little on edge tonight.
“First of, I think I’m a little worried for you, in a good way I mean, I wont your first date to go well.” Sam replied and Willow smiled at her friend’s comment and knew her friend would always be looking out for her.
“Also I think I really like this girl, I mean I keep thinking about her a lot and I know I don’t even really know her yet but you know, hopefully I get the chance too.” Willow was rather taken aback to her friend’s last comment. She wasn’t sure if this was the same Samantha Pickering she knew and loved so much.
“You mean you haven’t just been thinking about taking her back to your place and having your evil way with her.” Willow raised an eyebrow in question to the brunette’s motives.
“Well I have, a lot, it’s just I wanna enjoy the night with her y’know, maybe even make this a regular thing.” Sam replied shyly.
“Do you mean regular fucking friend, or actual girlfriend?” Willow needed clarification from her friend as to what she meant exactly by her comments.
“I mean… maybe, I think… girlfriend.” Sam replied as if she was embarrassed about the way she felt. Willow’s face broke out into a wide spread grin as she saw a part of her friend grow up right in front of her.
“I’m really glad for you Sam, I hope it works out great for you two.” Willow replied with full sincerity.
“Thanks.” Sam responded with a heartfelt smile.
… … … …
Tara looked at her watch for the millionth time and saw that it was still twenty three seconds till eight and her date with Willow. She glanced down again, knowing that it wouldn’t help but still unable to resist anyhow.
“She’ll be here in a minute.” Alex stated as he walked into the main part of the apartment, straightening his tie. Tara’s constant watch checking was driving him crazy and he knew it was driving her equally insane. After her warm but brief shower, Tara had dressed in black slacks and a pale blue blouse. She’d spent the good part of the previous night picking out an outfit once her and Willow had disentangled themselves and seen each other off with the promise of a date the following night.
“I can’t believe it’s actually about to happen.” Tara squealed with all her excitement and nervousness coming to the fore.
“I’m sure it’ll all be fine.” Alex said in his most reassuring voice. He knew how much the two girls were totally crazy about each other and he felt that he was beginning to feel the same thing with Hayley. He was really touched with the way she’d cared for him when he was injured and was impressed with how quickly she’d made friends with all of his friends. He was a bit apprehensive about asking her out due to that fact but she was more than willing and had been eagerly waiting for him to ask. She’d just been giving him time after being hurt before she asked him herself.
“So what are you two doing tonight?” Alex asked Tara who was a bundle of nerves now that eight o’clock had come and gone.
“Not sure exactly, Willow’s running the show, she’s gonna surprise me.” Tara positively beamed when she mentioned the red haired girl’s name.
“So how does it feel to have a girlfriend?” Alex asked as he sat down on the couch to wait for Willow to show up, once the two ladies were on their way he was of to pick up his own date.
“Wow, I guess she is my girlfriend now. I mean I think that’s what we are. Oh my god, I have a girlfriend.” The thought finally sunk into Tara how plonked her bottom down on the couch next to Alex, her face in deep thought as she pondered this new information. Suddenly a smile broke out over her face.
“I have a girlfriend, I defy convention, I spit in the face of it. How does it feel to have a girlfriend? I’ll tell you, it feels great. I can’t ever remember being this happy, I finally feel like me, like there was always something missing and now it’s not. Maybe it’s just Willow or maybe it’s because I’m dating a girl.” Tara explained happily.
“Maybe it’s both.” Alex replied as he took in the sight of his rather happy friend, he felt extremely happy that his friend was finally finding happiness in her life.
“Maybe, I think all that really matters at the moment is that I’m happy and I have a date with Willow, when she eventually gets here.” Tara’s mood soured a bit as she looked at her watch and noticed it was now five past eight and fear and concern were starting to sink in. Just at the right moment to allay those fears the buzzer for the intercom rang and Tara was up in a jiffy to answer it.
“Hey.” Tara blurted into the speaker a little breathlessly from her quick sprint to the door.
“Hey sweetie, it’s me.” Willow’s voice rang though the speaker like a beautiful goddess’s voice that Tara felt herself unworthy of hearing such a voice.
“I’ll just buzz you up.” Tara replied and pushed the button that would give the redhead entry to the apartment block. After a few anxious moments waiting for Willow to make the trek up to her room, Tara heard the door knock. She hadn’t moved far from the intercom and found herself right next to the door. She slowly opened it and she gasped as she took in the sight of the beautiful redhead in front of her. She was simply breathtaking, stunning in every sense of the word as Tara felt her pulse quicken just at the sight of the girl.
“Hey.” Willow offered once again, the same problem of breathlessness had occurred to her when she had seen the beautiful blonde woman of her dreams open the door for her. Willow still couldn’t believe she actually had a date with this angel and vowed to do everything humanly possible to make sure she had a good time and not to loose her.
“Hey.’ Tara replied once again, it seemed the only word the two women could say to each other as they continued to take in the breathtaking sights before them.
‘You-you look beautiful.” Willow mentioned finally with a bit of a stammer.
“You’re rather stunning yourself.” Tara replied shyly, she ran a hand down the redhead’s face and found it cupped by Willow’s own hand, holding her hand in place against her face.
“Wow I can’t believe I’m doing this, I mean us.” Willow said nervously, pointing between herself and Tara quickly for added emphasis.
“Yeah, I mean there’s an us, kinda surreal isn’t it?” Tara replied with a sense of unbelieving that her dreams had all seemed to come suddenly true.
“It really is, basically because we both wanted it but neither had the courage to go after it but now, here it is. I’ve been given this chance to make a go of it with you Tara and I want you to know that I’ll do everything possible to take advantage of that chance.” Willow openly blurted out, Tara’s face filled with a sense of glee upon hearing the redhead’s words as they echoed her own feeling.
“We gonna get this show on the road?” Tara asked politely as she wanted to get this thing moving.
“Sure.” Willow smiled and held the door open for her date.
“Bye Alex.” Tara called back over her shoulder, Willow hadn’t even noticed the young man her focus was so intently on the blonde, though she gave her own farewell and set off after the blonde.
… … … …
“Those were some kick ass fighting scenes in that movie, lots of blood and guts, just how I like it.” Tara replied happily as she and Willow left the movie theatre and began walking down the street, their hands entwined as they walked next to each other as if it were the most natural of things.
“Sweetie, it was a teen movie, lots of college kids running around half naked, doing god knows what to who.” Willow giggled out loud at the blonde’s words. Willow had brought the tickets for the movie and that was the only reason Willow knew what it was. Tara hadn’t cared what they saw, as long as they were there together. It was pretty obvious to Willow why it didn’t matter to Tara what movie they saw.
Tara had spent the whole movie watching Willow, she could see the redhead looking at her through the corner of her eye and wanted nothing more than to just sit there and make out with her cutie instead of paying attention to the movie. The fact the cinema was fairly packed and their seats were in plain view of most of the crowd was about the only thing keeping her lips away from Willow’s. Tara could feel that Willow shared the same disappointment about the situation as she felt and she swore to herself the back row would be the best place to sit next time they bothered coming to the movie theatre.
“Yeah well you can’t prove there wasn’t a kick ass fighting scene in it.” Tara playfully pointed out as their shoulders playfully bumped as they continued to walk along.
“Well, I suppose you got me there.” Willow smiled as she responded, she’d expected the whole evening to be a bundle of nerves, and while she still felt nervous, she felt she could just relax and be herself around the blonde and that was all she needed to do.
“Well I guess it just means we’ll have to see it again sometime soon.” Tara replied playfully, her smile shining full force in the moonlight.
“Yeah preferably in a spot with better viewing advantages, perhaps one of the corners in the back row.” Willow pointed out the fact that Tara had earlier been thinking about.
“I think the corners aren’t prime viewing spots for the movie sweetie.” Tara once again playfully pointed out.
“I wasn’t talking about the movie.” Willow stated with a sly smile spreading across her face.
“Vixen.” Tara smiled as they once again collided sensually as they walked along the path together.
“What about dinner, did you like that?” Willow changed the subject somewhat after a brief silence.
“Yeah, it was lovely. A nice little place and the food was real nice.” Tara replied in reference to the little restaurant the two had eaten at.
“Plus the waiter was actually nice.” Willow added with a giggle and was joined by Tara.
“We’ll have to make sure to eat there again, wouldn’t want a nice little place like that to go out of business now would we?” Tara replied with a simple little question of her own.
“If it means a nice quiet night out with you, I think we could make a regular habit of it.” Willow smiled and leant in and planted a quick but loving kiss on the other girl’s lips. The feeling of their lips meeting, even for just a brief second, sent shivers down their spines.
“Either that or we could spend plenty of evenings alone at your place with your wonderful cooking.” Willow felt the need to throw countless amounts of compliments at Tara all night and Tara just loved how special the redhead made her feel.
“Why can’t we spend plenty of evenings at your place with you cooking?” Tara asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Well the fact that the only thing know how to cook well is pop-tarts, it wouldn’t be very romantic now would it?” Willow replied with a smile.
“I don’t know, I think the fact you could cook breakfast would make it very tempting.” Tara replied with a sly grin on her face.
“Now who’s the vixen?” Willow replied as they both smiled and once again bumped shoulders as they continued to sway as they walked together.
“What I’m just saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Tara replied innocently, Willow glared at her, not believing a single word that was coming out of her mouth at the moment. Willow’s look caused Tara to break down into giggles and pull the redhead in for another quick peck on the lips.
… … … …
Willow and Tara stood nervously outside the door to Tara’s apartment. The evening had been one of the most amazing of their lives and whilst neither wanted it to end, they didn’t want it to end doing something they weren’t ready for or didn’t want to regret later.
“So?” Willow got out before she nervously leant in and planted a goodnight kiss on Tara’s lips. The kiss however lingered and neither girl wanted to break the hold on the other’s lips. After a moment when it became obvious that they weren’t going to be going anywhere, Willow moved herself into a more comfortable position, placing her hand on Tara’s cheek. Their lips started to move against each other as the kiss went from goodnight to hello in an amazingly short time.
Tara fell instantly into the kiss once Willow had taken hold of her cheek and she felt her arms wrap around the redhead as the need to have the other girl close to her grew by the second. Before either of them had realised, their tongues were duelling each other for right of entry to the other’s mouth and it was only the need for apparently vital oxygen, though they were sure they could live purely off of each other.
“Do you want to come inside?” Tara asked as she continued to catch her breath from her intense lip-lock with the redhead.
“Um, various sounds of hesitation.” Willow flustered out at the invitation as her mind raced to where that line often lead to.
“We don’t have to do anything, neither of us are ready for Will, I just… I just want to be near you tonight, just maybe we could watch t.v and fall asleep together on the couch would be an ideal end to tonight.” Tara moved quickly to reassure her new girlfriend.
“That’d be nice.” Willow replied with a soft smile up at the blonde and followed her into the apartment.
Tara had gathered a blanket from the linen closet and hand wrapped it around herself and Willow once they had snuggled together on the lounge in front of the t.v. They revelled in the closeness of their bodies being so close to one another and while they actually watched the old black and white movies before they drifted to sleep. Their minds had wondered to the part where they physically express their love for each other they both knew they wanted it, but they both wanted it to be right and perfect. It wasn’t something either girl was going to rush into and for now the closeness of holding each other and kissing was all they needed for now.
The black and white western movie was not something either of them on their own would normally watch, but they found themselves sharing the new experience and it was probably the fact they felt so happy about being with each other that they were able to watch out the movie. Tara set the sleep timer for the t.v and snuggled herself up good and proper for a good nights rest with Willow. They both eventually settled down for the night in each other’s arms. A process they both hoped would continue for many, many years into the future.

Isn't it funny how you feel your most tired five minutes before you have to get up.
