Tapestry




Fate was upset by something.

Her usually perfectly groomed, flowing raven hair was in disarray.Orbs of red and orange exploded on every spot where her glittering gaze touched.Her pale skin glowed a ghastly white.

She paused from her restless hovering and glowered at the scene before her.

Two old women, one plump and pink faced the other tall and gnarled, were busily weaving a vast tapestry that seemed to surpass the horizon and flowed like liquid.The tapestry was made of long luminescent threads, each having a unique hue.

Everyone who glimpsed Fate's Tapestry--where the million colored threads twinkled and danced--described the sight as enthralling.Well everyone perhaps, except Fate herself.

"Why is this titian colored thread knotted with the pale gold one?!" Fate demanded so suddenly that both of the old women jumped in surprise.

"My Lady Fate."The plump old woman came forward and bowed. "The knot means that these two beings have mated.If they are intricately interlaced it means they are in love."

"Yes." Fate's ancient voice was heavily laced with sarcasm. "Thank you for the refresher course old woman.Perhaps being Fate for millions of eternities now would make me forget what a knot means."

The tall, gnarled old woman discreetly nudged the plump one.

"What? I was only trying to help."The plump old woman muttered under her breath.

"I demand someone to explain to me
why
these two beings have carelessly mated this early?
Who
is responsible for this crude twist in my Tapestry?!"

"I am."A small voice squeaked.

The two old women cast a sympathetic glance towards Serendipity as Fate hurled her incandescent gaze towards Serendipity's cowering form.

"My lady, if I may explain-"

"You made Tara have sex with Willow."Fate stated, deadpan.

"No my lady."Serendipity vigorously shook her head."They made love."

"It was sex."

"Love!"

"Sex!"

Serendipity was about to reply again but the word
Love
died on her lips when she was blown by Fate's intense stare.

Shards of red and orange momentarily slashed Serendipity's vision.

"Serendipity, your power of reading thoughts have been taken from you for a reason." Fate said, more calmly now. "But you don't have to read thoughts in order to know Tara and Willow mating this early is a mistake."

Serendipity absorbed this in silence.

"But, I have plans my Lady Fate." Serendipity said quietly to the floor. "Passion would compel them to find each other. And then love would make them stay together."

"The essence of timing Serendipity.Your strategy may be good, but if you make them bond this early, Tara will end up at the Summers home and will be shot."Fate glided towards Serendipity and looked her in the eye. "And
that
is the kind of mistake we do not want to happen."

Serendipity sighed sadly.Although she was wary with the overdose of affection and hated the tasteless cat food, she had somehow have grown fond of Tara.And she didn't want Tara to die the way she did.

"There's a slim chance that she'll live."Serendipity said as she raised her shadowy head and bravely stared back at Fate.

"Yes. There is."Fate replied."But you can't help them anymore.I am withdrawing you from your assignment.

"What?!"Serendipity's shrill voice raised to an even higher pitch.

"I know you did your best Serendipity. In fact, I
do
appreciate your efforts." Fate turned and fixed her gaze at the Tapestry.The titian colored thread and the pale gold thread shimmered and pulsated in different rhythms.

"But Willow and Tara are on their own now."

Oh my goddess, Sleek, do you paint a powerful image! The tapestry depiction was simply incredible. And I love the 2 older women, busily weaving everything before them. Fate's a wonderful character...Her touches of irony/sarcasm are wonderul ("Perhaps being Fate for millions of years..."). She's an amazing combination of penultimate power and confidence tempered with genuine concern for the mortals she sees. There's nothing gushy about her, but you know she wants things to go well for our girls.



And Serendipity makes such a perfect foil for Fate's unyielding wisdom and far-sightedness...She's so eager to rectify her earlier mistakes, and she truly wants W&T together; she's like an eager child that can't understand why giving the test answers to her best friend may not have been the best decision to be made.



I just have to say again that the imagery you create is incredible. It helps shape or inform the characters with its power, instead of overwhelming them or forcing them to the background. And hey--love the word "titian"! (Just a personal interjection there...)



Can't wait to read more.

I love Fate's sarcasm, and I agree with Mary when she said:

She's an amazing combination of penultimate power and confidence tempered with genuine concern for the mortals she sees.

I'm glad to see that Fate isn't just playing the mortals like pawns as is sometimes depicted of higher powers.



It was funny too because when you were talking of the old women weaving the tapestry I just couldn't help but get the picture of the Three Fates from Disney's cartoon version of Hercules out of my head.



I feel bad for Serendipity though because it seems like her heart is in the right place, but her head is trailing somewhere behind. She seems to want what is best for Willow and Tara, but she isn't doing a very good job with the helping out. I hope she didn't screw it up completely, and I hope the repurcussions aren't as bad as they could be.



Can't wait for an update to sort out the problems.

I made sure she has an issue about why she is eager to please.And Fate, being ancient and having seen all have somehow acquired an armor of sarcasm--but she does have genuine compassion for her to approach Willow in the first place.

Thick ancient tomes lay open or piled on Willow's bed.Sheets of paper bore Willow's neat penmanship in different colored inks.Willow's laptop blinked expectantly at its owner who is currently seated at the edge of her bed, immersed in a glossy and rather modern looking book.

"Hey Will…Watcha doin?"

Startled, the book Willow was holding crashed to the floor.

"Buffy! It is you Buffy. With the stealth and the slayer sneakiness and the-"

"Hey, what are you reading?" Buffy crouched down to pick up the red book that fell to the floor but Willow swiftly kicked the book underneath her bed and out of Buffy's sight.

"Nuthin." Willow said a bit too quickly, her faced blossomed into a deep crimson.

Buffy, perplexed, stared at the spot where the book had been and looked Willow in the eye.

"What's Tribadism?" Buffy asked wide-eyed.

Willow choked and silently cursed Buffy's sharp slayer eyesight.

"Uhh…it's a…a tribe!You know, with, with tribesmen…and…and mostly tribes women! Doing…uh things that tribes people do!"
Please buy this.
Willow silently begged the heavens as she looked as innocently as possible into her best friend's inquiring gaze.

"Oh.Does this have something to do with the hell bitch?Isn't Sappho a poet? Can she help in this?"

Willow fidgeted nervously."Gee Buffy. I do miss you you know.But um… I really need to figure something out for myself."Willow pleaded with her eyes for Buffy to understand.

"Okay then."Buffy said as she turned away from Willow."I'll be over at the Magic Shop training with Giles.I really need to let off some steam."

Willow felt really sorry and pulled a surprised Buffy into a hug.Buffy was too startled to react to the redhead's affection.

"Thanks Buffy. I'm experiencing something major here.I need to figure it out and I

tell you everything once I have."Willow whispered as she clutched her best friend against her.

Buffy closed her eyes and hugged Willow back.When they parted, Buffy gave a small smile.

"Well if you need a Slayer or a best friend, you know where to find me."Buffy said as she left Willow's dorm room.


There's only one person I want to find right now.
Willow thought as a vision of blonde hair and sapphire eyes tickled her mind. Memories of soft breasts and graceful hips haunted her still.
