i have a question for you my darling xita. :heart I'm finishing up *working out the kinks* and i want to repost the revisions i've done with the previously posted parts... should i:

a) go and edit my thread post, ie edit the first page with the new and improved parts

or

b) should i just post it all on the last page the thread has and continue it on from there.

i think re-editing the begining of the thread will be confusing.... but then again i dont want to wasted thread space with the latter proposal even though i'm kinda leaning towards that one and wishing for your blessing...

i believe i will opt for a new thread, mi amor. that way it's a clean start and you can delete the old one (though some of the feedback was cool [being called a fic writing god does something for you ego ya know. lol] and i'll be sad to see it disappear).

I'm going to split up the chapters and post them once they are ready. gracias! :love

Okay... I have a question and I hope this is the right place to ask this, if not... I'm sorry, Mods.

I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find a wav file from, "American Pie 2," of Alyson saying, "Big stupid dummy?" I just love that line and would love to have it on my computer.

If anyone can help me find one, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Jen

Willowy Goodness Awards

Postby darkmagicwillow » Fri Jan 03, 2003 5:01 pm

It's time to vote for the Willowy Goodness Awards. There are Pens authors and fics to vote for in the big gun, best new author, best overall author, best overall fic, best W/T author, and best W/T fic categories.

You can just vote for the categories you care about and ignore all the other non W/T stuff. Voting can be done at this URL: http://wga.nearheralways.com/vote.html.

Why vote? This site is where I started looking for good Willow/Tara stories a year ago and it's how I found Pens. It'll help others find and enjoy some of your favorite Pens authors. Unfortunately, the nomination period is over, and they've missed a lot of good stories, but I just found out about this year's awards.

Sheridan .... the speech

"Listen to me. Please, there's not a lot of time, listen.

Dawn, listen to me. Listen.

I love you. I will *always* love you.

But this is the work that I have to do.

Tell Giles ... tell Giles I figured it out. And, and I'm okay.

And give my love to my friends.

You have to take care of them now.

You have to take care of each other.

have to be strong.

Dawn, the hardest thing in this world ... is to live in it.

Be brave. Live.

For me."

ok, does anyone know when tara said the line "my heart doesn't stutter"?

I thought I'd seen every w/t ep, but I can't remember ever hearing her say this. I've just seen it on lots of people's sigs, and it never says where it's from.

Say you really like shrimp. Or, say you don't like shrimp at all. "Bah, I wish there weren't any shrimp," you'd say...

JenWitch, that quote doesn't originate from an actual Buffy episode, but rather can be found in the first W&T comic "WannaBlessedBe" written by Amber and Chris Golden. Hope this helps :) .

In search of a little creative advice

Postby Wytchi Grrl » Sat Jan 11, 2003 11:34 am

hey all talented kittens,

I was wondering if anyone could give my some advice/intructions on how to layer/blend pic's usuing paint shop pro? i've been making wallpapers and have alot more in mind but want to take them to the next stage and start blending pictures together. But I haven't a clue where to start. I can layer with effects such as posterizing the pic but not for example a two seperate pic's of Will and then Tara.

If anyone could help I much appreciate it.

thanking you :)

Re: The Gift

Postby xita » Sat Jan 11, 2003 4:08 pm

Well I am not an expert by any means, not sure what version of paint shop you have either, but I'll give you a couple of things I know. You can play with the layer opacity in the layer palette, this will help you with the looks you want, also the layer blend mode that is right next to the opacity setting. The layer palette is sort of a floating window in paint shop, if you can't find it, right click on the toolbar and click on layer palette.

The other tip is using masks. On the layer palette , choose the layer you want to blend into the layer below it. Then on the menu choose Masks-view masks. Then menu again and masks- new - show all. Then back again to the menu masks - edit mask.

Now you can begin working. You can use any tool, use the brush for example and cover any part of this layer and will disappear, showing the layer underneath. If you choose brush and go to the tool options, again right click on the toolbar and select tool options if you can't see this floating window. Change the opacity and the density and the tool size for different effects. I find choosing a bigger tool size and a lower opacity as i get closer to the edge of say the person I am trying to keep in that layer works best.

I would recommend searching google with the terms paint shop tutorial, include your version, anyone feel free to give any tips, cause i just play with it.

If I had to live my life again, I'd make the same mistakes, only sooner.

I don't know if it is what you are looking for but I have something entitled "Buffy Season 6 Drinking Game". It is not a link but something I saved to my drive so you can email me at elessar@bellatlantic.net if you want me to send it to you.

Another option is to go to google and type in "buffy drinking game" and you should get about 22,000 results to choose from.

Hello Kittens,:wave

This is sort of a fishing expedition. I'm looking for another graphically minded person to make some wallpapers with. Basically, what I had in mind was a tag team effort. One of us would start a wallpaper, develop it to a certain point and then send it off to the other person for further development. That person would then add their own touches but not too the point where the other persons work became indiscernible. The cycle would then repeat until there was mutual agreement that each party would have one last go on a copy of their own. So when all is said and done you would have two wallpapers that differed only by that last round of work. I'm not sure if this is actually feasible but I would be willing to give it a go if someone is interested. If so we could work out the details via email. Anyone interested can contact me at elessar@bellatlantic.net

Screen Caps

Postby Wytchi Grrl » Sun Feb 02, 2003 7:19 am

Can anyone give me advice on how to do screen caps. I have the function on my DVD player on my comp but it says I can't do them while hardware acceleration is activated-the thing is I don't know how to change this so I can make some more unusual screen caps for my W/T wallpapers. I appreciate any advice.

Oooh, PowerDVD, yeah. I've used that and it makes things ridiculously easy. To be fair, though, I don't really have much experience with other programs, so I couldn't say how PowerDVD compares with others. I just know I've been really happy with it.

Re: Gift - season 5

Postby Patches » Thu Feb 06, 2003 1:46 pm

Does anyone know the names of the other two Hell Gods from Glory's original dimension, would like to have them for a fic.

Also, anyone interested in Betaing (is this really a word?) for me for what's turning into a particularly dark angsty short (FAQ compliant, of course). Currently "R" (violence, angst) possibly/probably sliding to "NC-17" in last chapter; guidance needed for grammar, clarity, continuity, style etc. - brutally honest criticism encouraged; 'tis the only way to learn. Trying to get it ready for VD posting - perhaps 3 or 4 chapters only – 5,000 words??? (yes, I know that leaves me only a week, I started writing one story, but something entirely different seems to have taken over; should have a complete draft ready by Sunday). If you have the time, energy, interest please e-mail me - pattismit@hotmail.com - and put KITTEN BOARD in the subject line so I don’t lose it in the junk mail folder. Thanks muchly!

Cheers!!

Patches

Patches, the two hell gods who ruled with Glory were never given names (on the show, anyway), so you can make up whatever names you want. Hope this helps! :)

Pens Frequently Asked Questions

Postby darkmagicwillow » Sat Feb 08, 2003 4:58 pm

How would I go about getting some things added to the Pens FAQ? I'd love to see a section on it about writing, both writing in general and writing W/T fanfic in specific. There's a tremendous amount of wisdom locked up in the heads of the Pens authors, and I think they'd like to share it. There's also a number of frequently asked questions here that could be added.

I certainly can't answer everything about writing myself, but I can give pointers to some good references and list of references where you can get a start though.

There's a lot of good sites out there that talk about writing in general like The Craft of Writing and HMG's Guide to Good Writing that would be good to refer to:

For fan fiction, the open directory project has a whole list of fan fiction guides. I haven't had time to read many of these, but there's potentially a lot of good information out there. These aren't about Buffy or W/T, but about fan fiction writing issues in general from what it is and what do all these terms like AU mean to common mistakes and how to avoid them.

Here are some simple W/T questions that I've heard frequently asked:

1. Where can I find episode transcripts? Psyche

2. Where can I find what someone said if I don't know the episode? BuffyDB Arc list

3. Where can I find screencaps? http://www.ltmiz.com/wt/.

4. How can I find a fic? The "findafic" thread, Pens search, the Completed Fics archive.

5. Where else can I find W/T fic? Extra Flamey, Wiccan Ways, and many other places.

6. Where can I find an online dictionary/thesaurus? www.dictionary.com.
