New Avatar Policy

Due to a heretofore unseen trend of placing nudity in avatars, a new policy will be added to exisisting avatar rules.

Nudity will not be allowed in avatars.

We have many minors visiting the board. The nature of avatars does not allow forewarning of the possible adult content. Unlike fic which can be titled nc-17, avatars cannot have a warning before viewing them.
We will not be the judges of what is art and what is pornography. With that in mind, no nude avatars. You will have a day to remove them, after that we will remove them for you.

I'd just like to say that I'm in complete favor of this new avatar policy. I have to admit that I've been concerned for quite some time about the nudity being portrayed in avatars because there are underage kids both registered and lurking around the board. And even though "nuditars" are nice to look at they are not at all appropriate, IMO.

While explicit nudity was displayed, i don't think that was really too much. It's probably just the way i've been raised, that makes me see nudity as a beautiful thing, doesn't matter the age. Even as little i've been taught about sex and the human body, so i just don't see the harm in nudity. My opinion is different from yours. But if you feel the need to ban nudity i can accept that, and even understand that a little, but i still can't say i'd do the same thing, i think.

My personal opinion on nudity has nothing to do with the policy. You made an assumption about my views on nudity but it's quite irrelevant to the policy. As I stated on my first post it's the imposition of this material on minors that is a concern.

Perhaps avatars displaying intimate parts below the waist, I understand and agree with. But anything above the waist, i.e. breasts. (which the majority of avatars have been focussed on) I don't agree with.

The context of the nudity is very important, this board nor it's participants avatars are advertising nudity in a negative way. A breast here and there on an avatar will affect minors far less than the amount of nudity that is shown in movies or TV shows.

I'm not arguing with you about the rule Xita. Because I do agree with it to a certain extent.

The problem with what you are saying is that you have arbitrarily decided what is ok for minors to see and what isn't. Instead of imposing my views or anyone elses on them, it's best to not make that kind of call. Obviously, many people don't follow your understanding as some of the avatars were beginning to push all kinds of lines.

I have no doubt that minor watch adult material on tv, etc. It's not my intention to make the kitten an adult place. There are mature things here, but they must contain warnings. It's all we can do here.

I would like to add my unsolicited 2 cents to this discussion.

Firstly I would like to say that, in my opinion, the moderators of this board made a wise decision and that I agree with it wholeheartedly.

The fact of the matter is that there *are* underaged children who frequent this site - and there are others who just don't want to see the nudity. They should have that right. Avatars cannot be prefaced with an NC-17 warning and are visible in every thread - even non NC-17 threads... so even if people *want* to avoid that sort of material - if avatars have nudity in them, they are subjected to it any way.

I do not believe that this decision is at all about nudity in general (in fact, I strongly believe that *everyone* who frequents this board has an appreciation for the beauty of the female form ), but that is beside the point. The point is that people should have the option of coming to this site to celebrate, discover and discuss the love between two women without being forced to see something that they are not old enough or prefer not to see.

Secondly, In the spirit of finding an acceptable solution I would like to put forward the following suggestion: Perhaps the moderators would consider an NC-17 labled thread where people could post images, perhaps with some clear guidelines? (maybe in The Inward Eye?)

This is a delightful and supportive community that celebrates a loving lesbian realtionship... there are many people out there who *need* this and many more (me) who just *greatly* appreciate it. So, so often lesbianism is portrayed in a lewd or objectifying manner. I am grateful for a place that concentrates on the love (with a side of smut for those who like and are old enough to appreciate the NC-17 side of things).

It's very easy to forget that some kittens are underage. I remember saying something to a kitten that I definitely would not have posted had I known how young she was. When I found out her age I was incredibly embarrassed.

I believe we have allowed naughty original WT drawings to be posted years ago, a thread with that can be labelled like a fic. Nude artwork (drawings I mean) can in my opinion possibly be ok to be posted in a thread (so not in an avatar) on a board like this with the proper disclaimers, but I would be very much against real nude pics of any kind, even if the subject is a ok with them being posted here, which would have to be a must, and the thread is labelled with big neon signs. There is so much nude stuff, of all degrees, that can be easily found on the internet, if people want to look at that, just go looking for it elsewhere, this board cannot cater to every possible subject of personal interest to some and with some topics it is better to be safe than sorry. I also am concerned about what kind of audience a thread like that might draw in, aside from board members.
