Ah! I tried to post feedback to Answering Darkness, over at Completed fics authors L-Z, but it got posted about four times. I usually know how to delete extra posts, but I can't seem to do it there. Help?!

Just start with your last post. (It's the "X" button in the upper right corner of your post.) You should have no trouble deleting that one. (Because you can only delete the last post in a thread.) Once you've deleted the last one, you should then be able to delete the third one, then the second. (Because each of those will become the last post in the thread as you delete the one following it.)

Post again if you have any trouble and a mod will go down there and get them.

Hey, sorry to be a pain, but there is no "x" on the last one. I can't seem to delete it.

I have made a delete button instead of an X. You should see it if you are the last post in the thread. It is next to the edit button. You may need to clear your cache to see it.

How does one go about clearing one's cache?

Which browser are you using?

Actually, if you just press the "Ctrl" and "R" keys at the same time, that should make it show up.

I am not sure why you can't see it. It should only be visible on the last post. Regardless. I have deleted you. In the future, please please only submit once. If you get an error, wait a few minutes and check then to see if your post showed up. Odds are it did post.

I´ve noticed that for me most of the time a post does go through even if it seems to be stuck or I get an error. I just go back or open a new tab, check the thread and there the post will be. Save your post before you post though. If you do not, that is when it won´t go through and you will have to type it all over again. Not that that ever happened to me. :whistle

Though when I had the problems earlier I did wait a few minutes and try reloading the page a few times (even pressing CTRL R) but none of the posts showed up till I managed to get one to go through successfully.

However I've noticed that even if the post doesn't show up on the thread, when you hit the reply button the post will be shown in the topic review at the bottom of the screen, so I'd recommend checking that before reposting.

Justin - yeah, that is exactly what happened to me, but I didn't know how to fix it. I waited a few days even and my post was still in the reply screen but not in the post. I didn't know if I posted it again if it would post all of them or just the last one, but it posted them all. Woops!

Thanks to the mods for deleting them!

If you're in that situation the best thing to do, rather than reposting the whole message, is to post something just saying something like "test".

This helps since being smaller it'll be more likely to go through successfully and you'll be less likely to have any problems when you delete it. This is important since if the servers time out when you're deleting a post it can cause the whole thread to be hidden.

Re: Issues

Postby Patches » Thu May 19, 2005 10:26 pm

Hey, trouble's back again...I'm still encountering the "page cannot be displayed" error screen on some posts. I tried Justin's ctr+R trick, and that didn't work. I also went back page to check the thread, no post...so, I tried the trick I'd used to get my post up on my Inward Eye story edit...backspace, then hit submit a second time. This time--double post. Will you please delete my second post from Survivor Ash Island?

Any ideas what might be causing the problem? It's only on the KB site since we've moved here, and seems to be a rather random occurance.

Also, I shut down the browser and when I brought the KB page up, this message appeared once:

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

Obviously, I made it on after a second try.

Cheers!! and muchly thanks (again)
Patches

ETA: I'm wondering if my random encounters might not be so random after all. Normally, I compose in a word processor and copy/paste the post after. I downloaded the newest toolbar update from Google with the spell check function for web pages -- I think the "page cannot be displayed" error occurs after I compose right on the KB reply page and run the Google spell check. Perhaps this is merely coincident, and I don't know enough about the 'nuts and bolts' of computers to decide otherwise, but could something in this funky new Google function be interfering with the encoding somehow?

I'm getting 500 Errors when posting an update on Pens. I can review and post around 1,000 words, if I go over significantly I get the following error:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@thekittenboard.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

It's not a problem, I can split the update, but it might be worth looking into.

ETA: I tried splitting the post but still got 500'ed. I tried to edit the original post to add more content in, no luck.

Hey, watson. I see you trying to post your update in the fic challenge thread.

Not sure what to tell you. You should be able to make posts much larger than 3,800 words. I tested your post and it went through just fine for me. Then I copied it a few times and ended up with about seven thousand words and that posted just fine as well.

I know the server is weird sometimes and I've gotten that error myself a few times. Seems to be random.

I hope the server was just being pissy for a minute and all will be well soon. I'm not having any problems at the moment, so I don't know what's going on. I'd say wait a few minutes, make a :happy face and see if you can't intimidate the server into behaving properly...and then try posting again.

But please post here again if after a while, it still won't let you post.

Hi, :wave

My avatar keeps vanishing. Most of the time it's fine, but, every so often, instead of my avatar, there's just a tiny white box with a red cross in it, & then when I go to my profile to fix it, it's not there at all & I have to retype the url.

Uhm, any ideas why that might be?

Hugs
Jeanne

No, sorry, that's not valid, either.

You could get a photobucket account or something, if you need some webspace.
