"Taboo" Review

AICN posted this very short, very bad review:

http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=11360

Taboo (0-as in zero stars)
The worst movie I saw at Sundance. A complete throwaway of a movie. Terrible script and acting. I want those wasted 81 minutes back!!

Sounds like the most challenging thing about this role for Amber was playing a Republican. Ack, I hate it when bad films happen to good actors.

Oh dear...

He're hoping we get some good Taboo reviews soon.

And remmember, this movie could have easily been misunderstood. Hey, The Eye of the Beholder got extremely bad reviews and it turned out to be one of the best movies ever made! And like Ashley did with TEotB, Amber could have easily seen something in Taboo what most people won't.

Believe it or not, this reviews have only made me more eager to see this movie. Taboo will freakin' rock!!!!!!

Ouch.

Well, it's pretty much what I expected when I first heard what the movie was about. And yet I'm still gonna shell out eight bucks to see it.

My guess is the only thing Amber saw in this was a job. This is the girl who said "I just do whatever comes my way."

This begs the question, however:

How in the heck did Taboo get accepted at Sundance and Chance did not?

Probably got accepted on the strength of the writer/director's other film which apparently was good.

To me the dead giveaway that "Taboo" might be trouble is its runtime. Generally if a movie can't even clock in at 90 minutes it is not a good sign.

Well, at least she got to see Romania.

Yeah I have to agree, I'm not surprised by the bad reviews, I wasn't expecting much from this movie and looks like I was right, although, like Dazey said, of course I will go see it and will buy the DVD when it comes out, just because Amber's in it, that's a good enough reason to go see anything

Amber in lingerie - that's all the reason I need to sit through 81 minutes of "Taboo".

Seems like the critic's main gripe was January Jones -- ouch.

I don't think this movie had a horrible premise at all -- it could have made for some great fun -- it just sounds like the pacing and acting were off. Oh well. Won't sway me -- I'll see Amber in anything, especially if, as Wiccie points out, it's lingerie.

They should have given Taboo's spot to Chance but oh well. I too will see it just for Amber. . . sigh.

Hmmm, I would have to disagree there. I thought Eye of the Beholder was awful. It was worth seeing once just for the hottness of Ashley, but it was a horrible movie. By the same token, I would see this movie just because Amber is in it, but the reviews don't make it sound very good.

I'll see it for Amber. I can't resist seeing even an awful movie if it's got one of my favorite actresses in it. I sat through Dead Man on Campus for Aly and Soul Survivors for Dushku (each was the only bright spot in those movies, especially Dushku as Soul Survivors was just god awful but she was still good in it.)

Amber's in it? Hell, sign me up, I'm there. Don't care about anything else.

The lingerie is just a bonus.

Ah...I dunno.But to me,Sundance critical is more cruel than normal,as always. ( Ya know..higher expectation = higher disappointment )

Ugh,but if it's 0 then there's must be something wrong with it ( like bad acting maybe? That could be really disturbing somehow ) It's good to know that Amber got good review out of everyone.Ya know,sometime...one great acting could lift up the whole film ( Oh yes,I mean Amber is that one )

Anyway,
Amber's in it = must see
Amber + Taboo game = Oh! Must really see
Amber + Drunk spoiled kid role + Taboo game = Are you kidding? I wouldn't miss that!

I wouldn't put too much stock in Film Threat's pan of Taboo. That magazine is the epitome of "If everybody likes it, it must stink on ice." There's only so much you can buy into that mentality. It's what made me avoid Friends like the plague for years. Now I regret it.

Besides, most of Film Threat's cachet (if you could call it that) was due to the fact that Dominic Griffin, the Irish writer guy on the L.A. Real World was an editor there for a while.

Anyway, that probably means it will come on video a lot faster. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. It did wonders for Highlander!
