A little late in responding, but oh hell, just killing time until the next ep.

I actually liked this episode, it had this mix of being funny, kind of surreal, with darker undercurrents that are what drew me to the series in the first place. It definitely had the feel of being filler but it was good filler in my opinion.

Buffy looked so cute in her uniform and I liked the scenes at DMP, the creepy training video(which was able to be both hilarious and creepy at the same time), and whenever Buffy would ask what the secret ingredient was they'd say "it's a meat process", for some reason i thought that was hilarious. Vague much?

I don't know what Amy thought she was doing, but i can't imagine she thought she had Willow's best interests in mind. It doesn't matter whether or not Willow enjoyed the effects of the spell, Amy knew she had given up magick for her own good. I definitely think Amy is trying to drag Willow down with her in her own misery (and let's face it, Amy does seem pretty miserable). I don't think she's a very sympathetic character, but she sure is interesting.

Don't forget Anya, PJ . . . she was only supposed to show up like once or twice.

About Amy, well she has been a rat for three years of her life. That's three years down the drain. She became a rat in her junior year of high school. So when she became human again, she thought that she was only a rat for a couple of weeks, and was still in high school. So that kinda goes with the theme of "grow up." I figure that it would be difficult for her to grow up, considering that she still acts like she's in high school. So this could sorta explain her bad girl behavior. She wants to use magic and have as much fun as she can. Her attitude towards Willow is so high-schoolish. She peer pressures Willow into using magic.

That's a good point.

Given that she was out of touch with the world for three years, Amy would be pretty emotionally stunted.

And also given everything her mother put her through, she probably wasn't too emotionally stable to begin with.

Plus, unlike Willow, she doesn't seem to have any friends or a (ex)girlfriend to love and support her. There is no one to show her the error of her ways, to wean her off the magick, or to help support her if she were to go through withdrawals.

I'm pretty sure that, one way or another, things will not end well for Amy. And if she stays in Sunnydale, the end could come sooner than she realizes.

Well that's fine for you, but it doesn't mean that others can't feel differently, does it? I watched and greatly enjoyed the show way before Tara showed up, but since she has been part of it I find that my enjoyment is significantly reduced when she's not around. That may be just me, but I don't appreciate intimations that it's not a valid way to feel.quote:

I didn't mean any offense by my statement. I only meant that it's a good show. If Tara's in it, all the better, but episodes without her in it can still be good.

Nicely put Joy. And no I'm not just saying that because you're my gf.

As for my own opinion, which is only MY opinion and not meant to offend anyone.

I'd have to say that my favorite all time Buffy episode is The Prom which of course is pre-Tara....so the fact that Tara isn't in an episode doesn't detract from my enjoyment. *^_^* It strikes me almost as sad that some people can discount an episode as being a great one or a future classic because it lacks a certain character. Granted, both Gone and Doublemeat Palace probably wouldn't have been classics even if they had Tara, it just seems that it's kind of restricting to say that an episode's greatness is based on whether or not Tara's in it.

Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion.

Sad? There have been many great BtVS eps without Tara, but if I list my favourite episodes and scenes, they *all* have Willow *and* Tara in them, I am very shippy that way, and I am quite happy.

*editing to add: When I say Willow *and* Tara I mean them both, not just Willow, not just Tara, but both, together, in the same episode, and preferably together in the same scene, and preferably just together. If either of them were to leave the show, then so would I, leave it, not watch it anymore, ever, no matter how much I loved it before Tara came along. There would be no reason good enough for me to watch it anymore, no episode could be great enough.

And I am sure there are quite a few people out there who think we are *all* sad for watching a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the first place, no matter the reason any of us watches it.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that on a w/t board people would like episodes with both our girls in it better. Nor should they be judged for preferring an ep with Tara and Willow in it.

I think we can all agree that Tuesday can not come soon enough!

Edited to add: I wasn't jumping up and down thrilled with this ep when I first saw it (as you can tell from my earlier post), but after reading all your comments about what you liked, I appreciated it more. Lol, I'm such a dork, I didn't pick up on the penis-monster till you guys brought it up! And, sad to say, I guess I was the only one sitting on my couch during the "It's people" scene, singing "It's priest! Have a little priest. Is it any good? Sir, it's too good, at least." Great Sweeney Todd moment!! *inner musical theater dork timidly returns to dusty corner.*

Hello all..
many apologies, but -my- inner musical theater dork is forcing me to post. Sadly, I failed to make the Sweeney Todd connection at the time (and I call myself a Sondheim fan *shakes head at myself*), but now that you mention it... YES! So a Sweeney moment.. hehe.. yay Sondheim... and thank you for drawing the connection. *my inner musical theatre dork is now satisfies, so my inner student comes back out to force me back to writing an annotated bibliography*
