Joss on the bronze, a Musical for Buffy Next Year!

Postby tvsurfer » Tue Apr 24, 2001 12:19 pm

looks like Amber, ASH, James and Aly are going to get to use their vocal talents! I hope they bring the "host" over from angel for this eppie too!

The only thing that sounded really harsh in the press was the end of the L.A.Times piece with my comment on the possibility of the WB putting Angel up against Buffy. "That move is pure spite". I actually said "It's pure spite, and they're not spiteful, so they wouldn't do it." Small thing, but I only like to sound like Im attacking someone when I am.

Animated Buffy. It's first year at Sunnydale High. Willow loves Xander, Xander loves Buffy, Giles works in the library, Angel's a good vampire who has a banterish and burgeoning romantic vibe with Buffy. Cordy's a bitch. It's all the stories that happened in between. The great Jane Espenson (all bow before BAND CANDY) just turned in a script that I now must leave you to finish, 'cause if I say I overslept she'll say "You lie! You were posting!" (Though I might get some slack 'cuz of that 'all bow' thing).

Okay, couple more things. Yes. I will make my on-screen debut in Angel 21. No, I will not speak, and no, you will not see my face. But I will make my presence known! Just remember my watchword: Dignity. Always dignity.

Also: Next year, there WILL be a musical Buffy episode. I'm working on it already. And people, I'm warning you: it just might suck. But I'll do my best. I'm writing the songs and the script (And of course I'll shoot it). The one thing I know for sure is I got some great singers in my cast. It's gonna be the hardest thing we ever tried to pull off, and that INCLUDES the COMPLETELY UNSHOOTABLE episode 100 that nearly killed me.

joss says:
(Tue Apr 24 08:52:26 2001 4.41.196.128)
Cream AND sugar.

Also want to make clear, the WB as a whole always treated the show with enormous respect. It was only the money guys (or guy) that failed to show that. The network itself is made up of cool guys.

^ joss says: (Tue Apr 24 08:48:56 2001 4.41.196.128) We don't know about Angel; we won't until the WB decides on their schedule. I'd like to keep the shows together but Angel can stand on its own. We'll see. Meanwhile, the papers sure were fun yesterday! Well, some of them were. Of course some guys took me out of context and made me sound kinda harsher even than I am. Plus a lot of false or skewed info from an unnamed WB 'source'. This ewhole thing is weird. I'm glad it's settling down. I don't like fighting in the press; it's ungentlemanly, and it takes away valuable procrastination time. I meant to say work.
joss says:
(Tue Apr 24 08:39:28 2001 4.41.196.128)
quick check in, with my morning tea, to see if you all have any questions. Not that I'll answer 'em. But I might. Maybe. If there's no math.

I think it was Lyre,Lyre Hearts on Fire.....

Whichever one it was, I wasn't impressed. You see, in England, usually the stars of well respected shows only do musical numbers for charity. Children in Need/Comic Relief anyone?

Bitter Suite wasn't really funny (or at least it certainly wasn't intended to be. And it had the infamous "Gabdrag" at the beginning.)

Lyre Lyre was meant to be funny, but it wasn't really all that good. The music was ok- I got the soundtrack and actually liked that, even though the ep was pretty weak.

I loved Bitter Suite, and I love Lyre, Lyre. Bitter Suite is the reason I took choir my senior year of HS for the first time and they said I was acutally a good singer, well for one voice hidden within 25.
Lyre,Lyre is the tape I pop in when I need a good laugh. I love doing the beginning in the village. " I am Adam Armus." And the um "Is there really a jam? oh yeah Can' we participate.." Oh and don't get me started on Dancin' in the Moon Light, cause I can do the dance too!
And everyone now points and laughs at me.
Oh and I also watch the BVS ep The Witch, I just love the BUffy as a cheerleader part. "Turn up the music." god that scene cracks me up. "No no no no no, you don't want her she's a wi--" HE HE HE.
Damn. I'm a loser. But I love every minute of it.

Yeah Len and tommo, we didn't know that Aly could sing, but she is participating in Ash's album.

The episode I was referring to was The Bitter Suite. I thought Hudson Leick showed a lot of talent even though she had limited screen time.

Tapert is an idiot and a hack who occasionally shows flashes of talent. Joss is a genius with huge talent and only an occasional deviation into cheese. I'd hesitate to compare anything Joss might do to anything on Xena.

Did Joss write that rock-anthem thing ASH sang in Restless? Every time i listen to that i can't get it out of my head for days.

It appears that we won't see Joss's face when he makes his on-screen debut on Angel. Is it possible that he'll be made up as a demon?

Is it just back up vocals Aly and Amber are providing?

Yeah Len and tommo, we didn't know that Aly could sing, but she is participating in Ash's album.

Thanks for the info. Joss is a complete mad-man! A musical Buffy?

Do you have a URL for this at all? I've tried several times to find the archives for the VIPs, but I never can find it.

Please... please...

Thanks again for the info.

Hmmmm... great singers in the cast, eh? We know about Aly, Amber and ASH. This would suggest that Joss intends for them all to be around next year, despite some claims that have been made. Good!

"I have no plans to send Tara anywhere. Amber and Alyson have such great chemistry; they're so great together, and they're very romantic together. We have terrible, terrible things to do to them because they're on my show, so needless to say, horrible things will happen--but as a couple, I think they work really well." - Joss Whedon

Remember the Official Kitten Board Mantra - "Joss is nuts about Tara, Willow/Tara and Amber!"

Wow, I didn't think Joss would go there. But he must have gotten a really good idea. Otherwise, he wouldn't do it. I also should have known, since he wrote songs for ASH and we learned Aly can sing as well. This should be really interesting. And unshootable 100the ep?? Man, doesn't sound like he was satisfied with it.

Oh, I think he was happy with it, Xita. Saying it was "COMPLETELY UNSHOOTABLE" (in big letters, even) was just his way of building anticipation for something specatcular.

It's what I'd do, anyway...

We know Aly can sing? Did Aly sing somewhere and I missed it? I remember her indicating in an interview at one point that she was a bad singer. Though of course many perfectly fine singers feel, or will say out of modesty, that they are bad singers..

I am a bad singer. And by that I mean...that I'm a bad singer. Though secretly, in my room, all alone, with no one to watch me and make me nervous...woo, I'm still really bad.

A Buffy musical, hey this is great news. It will be interesting to see what kind of songs they write for each of the cast.

It appears that we won't see Joss's face when he makes his on-screen debut on Angel. Is it possible that he'll be made up as a demon?

I'm sorry, I like to revere all that Joss does, but...you know...musical episodes are sometimes um...what's the word...shite?

I saw the Xena one. 'Nuff said.

I too, was under the impression that Aly wasn't a great singer. Although if Len was lying when he said *he* wasn't, then I guess that Aly could have lied too....

Len, I long to hear you sing again.

Sigh.

Yes, I saw the Xena one, too, and it was truly dreadful. On the other hand, I think this entire board is a testament to the fact that there are some things Joss can do way better than Rob Tapert.

If this musical Buffy ep goes the way of the Xena one, it could go down as a monumental comedic effort.

****SOOOOO True. But if ya told a Xena fan that, I bet the best they'd come up with is "Well, Buffy is a **** that shops for shoes and worries about her makeup." Pfft. So do I. Um...where was I? Whoever was talking about Hudson Leick's "talent" she actually didn't sing in The Bitter Suite, neither did Gabrielle. They had voice-overs done (hope that doesn't happen for Buffy) I had to say this, haven't forgiven HL for when she did the porno.

***The credits...and also my friend has the CD and they give the voice-actor's names. But it sounds like her, huh? I could be wrong, ofcourse, but I'm way sure. I agree, she was really good in it, I liked the Tarot references in the ep. That was about it tho.

And yeah, she did a porn. a soft porn, I should say. well, it wasn't that the whole movie was porn but her role was. Lets put it this way : she was nekkid and having sex with a mysoginist. And I find that nasty to several degrees.
