After you've seen the episode, this is the place to discuss it.

And as always, don’t post any spoilers for future episodes in this thread, those belong in the spoiler thread.

Well since this is another Taraless episode, not much to report, actually there’s nothing to add to what Leoff posted in the wildfeed, didn’t like this episode, if it’s suppose to be funny, I didn’t get it, oh well hopefully next weeks episode will be much better AND Tara will be in it

But to answer a question xita asked me this morning…the last Willow and Amy scene, when Amy asks her if she had fun, Willow looks pensive for a few seconds but then, with an angry look, tells Amy that she had no right to do that and she tells her to stay away from her, so Amy leaves.

Oh yeah, and Willow has curly hair for most of the episode and it’s a little longer now…just gorgeous and at the end, when she sends Amy on her way, she has straight hair and she’s so beautiful, although I think I might be biased in my opinion of her beauty

Well I thought it was ok but I certainly wonÕt be wearing out my tape re-watching it. The pacing was a little slow but there were a few spots that had me laughing out loud. At least Willow kicked Amy to the curb.

Rose,

Willow was high on magic but it wasn’t her fault, Amy did a spell on her that made magic run through her, but Willow herself never did any spells.

Yeah, Willow and Dawn were on good terms in this episode.

I've been noticing for a while that the pace of the show seems to have gotten slooooower, and everyone's acting like they're half asleep. It's like they're going way overboard on trying to act 'mature' and not be melodramatic. Of course, what the show does best is melodrama. It isn't the writing or even the acting so much as the pacing, which is really the director's call during filming. Aly's talents seem wasted when she's sleepwalking through her part. I haven't had this complaint about every episode this season, some of them have been great, but it's making me crazy. When I compare Aly's performances from early seasons with how she's acted since late last season it's like she's had a lobotomy.

Okay, done whining. I so hope they get Buffy out of that horrible job! Having sex with Spike by the dumpster during her break? It's like some high school nightmare. Spike is right- shes better than that. I barely find it credible she'd stay there, or start working there in the first place.

Well, if there was ever a story to tell the flipside of the American Dream, this is it.

I loved the 'corporate slave zombies' angle with all the catatonic employees. I had a cousin who worked at Mickey D's when he was in high school, and this is exactly how he described it... horrid food, grease everywhere, stagnant corporate 'standard procedures'.

I haven't eaten at MD's in 7 years, and I ain't going back for anything. When I do eat beef, I know where it comes from and I cooks it myself whenever possible.

Anyway, good on Willow for both taking down the bad guy and taking another step out of the dark hole of addiction. I've heard Tara's back next week, should be good.

the only scenes i liked in this ep were with Anya and her demon friend Hallie. LOL when they first saw each other and Anya showed her the ring! atleast Willow was really trying her best not to give in to the temptation to use magic. go Willow! Tara will be very proud. I MISS TARA!

Buffy is now a minimum-wage career woman, not that it's bad thing altho' Dawn thinks that. well atleast she has a job. go Buffy! heh.heh. cheers and peace!

I'm thinking Amy has it in for Willow for not liberating her from her ratiness earlier. She made some comment to that effect when Willow told her not to come back (can't remember exactly...).

I really liked Halefrek (sp?) and this episode seemed to nicely set up potential discord for Anya and Xander. The discord theme reminded me of their little retro-pastiche song from OMWF.

Honestly, I liked this episode better than Gone, although it wasn't great to see Willow having more magic troubles. I guess I was just hoping they'd disappear... Oh well!

Okay, here come the thoughts and impressions...

1. Maybe it wasn't a masterpiece, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable, and was smiling through a good deal of it.

2. Hot DANG, but Buffy looked just adorable in that uniform . It was even cuter than the waitress uniform in "Anne". I was a little disappointed that the new manager only offered Buffy her old job back; you would think with her "privileged" information, she could at least have become a "management trainee" .

3. Glad Xander made an effort to set Dawn straight about "Buffy will never be anybody big".

4. I have to seriously disagree with the poster above who remarked about AH's acting. She did an absolutely splendid job of depicting someone just barely hanging on, just barely able to stop shaking. And a huge YAY for Willow killing the evil beastie without using magic ! And did you all catch that--"And if you're not my friend, you'd better stay away from me"--the way AH said it, it perfectly implied "Listen up, bitch, I can still be five times more powerful than you are if I want to be!"

5. I'll bet that the actress who played Halfrek is pretty without that make-up.

All in all, a pleasant Espenson outing; but like everyone else, I can hardly wait for next week.

A few observations:

I now hate Amy with a fiery vengeance. Unfortunately, I seriously doubt we've seen the last of her.

I'm glad Dawn has made up with Willow. I was also very proud of Willow throughout this ep. She's showing a lot of resolve, which is a great sign.

I don't think McDonalds should have bought airtime during this particular Buffy ep because "EW!"

I'm glad next week is the beginning of sweeps because we get Tara back and we hopefully get a more entertaining batch of episodes.

BTW, Tara looked gorgeous in the preview for next week! Can't wait!!

I am glad Buffy finally has a job, but if only she would stay away from Spike. She did not look very interested when her and Spike were having sex. She knows it is meaningless.

Well I thought it was ok but I certainly wonÕt be wearing out my tape re-watching it. The pacing was a little slow but there were a few spots that had me laughing out loud. At least Willow kicked Amy to the curb.

Warduke,

Did Willow fall off the wagon in this ep?

What did Amy do to Willow?

Are Willow and Dawn on good terms yet?

Rose,

Willow was high on magic but it wasn’t her fault, Amy did a spell on her that made magic run through her, but Willow herself never did any spells.

Yeah, Willow and Dawn were on good terms in this episode.

But at least Xander and Anya had more to do than sit around the magic shop.

First of all, Yeeeaaahhh for Willow kicking Amy to the curb and using her brains and ingenuity to save Buffy!!!!!! I see a W/T reconciliation in the future.

I am glad Buffy finally has a job, but if only she would stay away from Spike. She did not look very interested when her and Spike were having sex. She knows it is meaningless.

Next week's episode looks like Willow and Tara are talking. I miss Tara so much.

I didn't think this episode was that great. Kinda slow. But Xander was hilarious when he thought he'd eaten a human burger. Looked like he was going to throw up the whole time in that scene. No Tara, but did you see her in the previews for next week. God, she looked gorgoeus. I think one of the shots they showed of Willow was when she sees Tara at the house. She had that "LOOK" of love on her face. I think we may have our reconciliation going sometime in March...PLEASE...BTW, is there an episode on Feb 19th, or is that being pre-empted?

Ok, first and foremost... How long is going to take for Willow to realize what's been happening? I mean, she saved Buffy in the last two episodes by herself, without using ANY magic whatsoever, and feeling all shitty and weak. What else does she need to prove to herself that the "using magic to be super Willow and be worth some respect" was absolutely wrong??? That she will always be amazing, *and* a genius, so everybody needs her A LOT to help save the world??

I really think that's what Joss is trying to show here, but then, again, what do I, poor mortal, know? ;-)

After that "b-day present", I was ready to make Amy beg to be a rat again... what a bitch! It was sooo painful to see the desperation in Willow's eyes... and how much she's trembling... if I didn't know that Amber wasn't in this ep, I would just wait for Tara to enter the Magic Box at that exact time. Screwed up once, screwed up for all! (at this point I was still in my rage and pessimism mode...)

Let's start a new pool. How many snake-like creatures showed up in Buffy since the 1st season? :-) The winner gets a doublemeat medley special! :-)

Anya's friend made me think more of Star Trek than Buffy.

Could ran there and kiss Willow after she told Amy off! (uh, well, I guess I could do that any time, in fact... but anyway...) That's my girl! :-) That "stay away from me" didn't need any magic to be scary...

I thought this episode was going to be just a cheery one that sort of filled space before the really dark one to come, but I thought it actually showed a lot of hints as to the direction of the rest of the season.

Worst parts: The whole Buffy/Spike sex scene. I felt very, very uncomfortable watching that. I usually couldn't care less about B/S sex or their relationship, but I felt so sad for Buffy and Spike. He is really into it and desperate for her, and she is avoiding touching him anywhere other than the place that matters to her. At one point I thought it looked like he started to kiss her and she turned her head away and just stared out blindly. I didn't think it looked like she had no reaction. In fact, I thought she looked nauseous. Really sad for both characters and they would both be better off without it, in my opinion. I know Marti has made comments about bad boys or girls we all hooked up with in college, and I kissed my share of toads, but this is taking it a little far. I think most of us still at least had a little dignity to scrape up off the floor at the end of the day.
Second worst part for me: The catatonic people working at DMP. I worked in fast food in high school (ugh) and I think it would have been funnier to have the too chipper, way to gung-ho employees that smiled incessantly rather than the zombies. I never understood if they were just depressed over working there for a while or if they were hypnotized by the grinder (as Buffy seemed to be a few times, even before she found the finger. Was that supposed to connect to the water coming out of the drain fascination in "Flooded," or was it incidental?)
Best parts: Anya and "Hallie" greeting each other. Xander's reaction to the human burger (hot, delicious human flesh!!). Amy showing her true colors and the fact that she really wasn't all OK with being a rat all that time (MEOW, Amy, and not in a good way). Willow's reaction to Amy at the end, when she looked really strong standing up to her. Buffy's Sleepless in Seattle line. The "eeeeew" moments. Hallie's reaction to everything Anya says, answering her with either another question or Mmmmm?...... Makes me think that Hallie has an agenda that is even bigger than we think. Also makes me think that Anya is missing being a vengeance demon more and more. Notice the line about why demons are better than humans? So is she identifying herself as a demon, still, and not as a human?
I think this show really points to the need for an ending to the current B/S situation, one way or the other. Either she needs to stop using Spike or start admitting it to her friends and start liking it. He obviously cares about her in his own way, and it isn't fair. Also, Buffy called a meeting and almost no one came. Woe to everyone in Sunnydale if there is a big bad out there, because I don't think they can take it on. I have to say my very favorite part was the McDonald's commercial right in the middle of the show: Irony at its best.

I think this episode, as well as Gone are two of the worst Buffy eps I've seen in a long time. Especially because everything through Smashed was so stellar. But next week looks like it's getting better again.

I am so disappointed in the Willow storyline. How is it that the people behind one of the smartest shows on tv couldn't come up with anything better than this after-school-special-esque magic=drugs metaphor? As for the main storyline with Buffy's new job, it had some funny parts but overall didn't capture my interest.

Good things about this episode: Buffy and Spike sex! I would have liked to see more sex, with fewer clothes, but it was still all good. And they finally addressed the way Xander treats Anya. I love their relationship, and I really do want to see them stay together, but sometimes the way Xander criticizes Anya in front of their friends really sucks.

Wow, that really was a slow eppy. I've never worked at a fast food place as an employee, but I once helped "job coach" a mentally-impaired teen at a McDonald's. The place made me nuts. You think flipping burgers is boring? Try being the person who stands behind the kid flipping burgers telling him how to flip the burgers! Anyway, this episode brought back all the bad memories. Just seeing the flourescent lights and the food processors made me clausterphobic. Or maybe it was just the ungodly slow pacing of the "action." Whatever it was, I was getting antsy! I usually love Jane Espenson scripts, but this one fell flat.

I did like that "Hallie" pointed out Xander's constant criticism of Anya. I don't know what's going to happen with the wedding, but I hope the writers don't let Xander off the hook about the way he treats her with mild disdain. Either love her completely or leave. Don't keep giving embarrassed little shrugs and try to hide her away.

Ouch. Can't agree with that. Like I said, this episode was slow, but I thought Aly and Elizabeth Anne Allen were both very good in their last scene together. It was one of the few winners of the eppy. As for Aly's performance since late last season, well Willow has been going through a lot of heavy stuff. Let's see, Joyce died, she fought with Tara, Tara got her brained sucked, she had to bring back Buffy from mental collapse, they had to fight Glory, she got Tara's brain back, Buffy died, she became lead Scooby, Giles left, she resurrected Buffy, Giles came back and yelled at her, she fought with Tara some more, she found out Buffy was in heaven, Giles left again, Tara left her, she became a magick junkie, she almost killed Dawn, she's been trying to kick her habit and grow up. GEEZ! Not a whole lot of time or opportunity to be the happy, funny, quirky Willow of old. Willow HAS been different, but I don't think Aly's acting has been suspect at all. I think she's been stellar. I think she's brilliantly incorporated grief, anger, insecurity, guilt, fear and, lately, determination into Willow without changing the core of the character. That's hard to do. A lot of people on other boards complain that Willow is so different. They want the old Willow back. It IS Willow. It's just the Willow who's been through all the crap I listed above and who's grown. If she too closely resembled the Willow of earlier seasons, THEN I would complain that Aly was sleepwalking. Sleepwalking suggests that someone is not trying and is doing nothing new. I think Aly is doing a lot of new things with Willow while keeping true to her character. She's wide-fucking-awake.quote:

Actually, I'm not complaining about Aly's acting and I didn't mean to give that impression. I think she's the best actor on the show. I'm complaining about the directing. Aly once described how Joss often had her play a scene 3 ways- low key, "medium" and over-the-top- then decided which was most appropriate for the situation. I feel like all the actors are frequently being told to "tone it down" (I'm guessing, obviously, but that's my impression) and that the editing leaves longish pauses between speakers to deliberately slow the pacing.

The whole ep didn't suck, I especially liked the Anya parts. Having her demonic history interfere with her wedding has loads of interesting potential. I was also happy to see Dawn and Willow getting along again- now if only she'll make up with Tara!

The part of the story I couldn't buy was the last bit where Buffy has the goods on a multi-million dollar corporation committing massive fraud and all she wants is her worthless sucky job back? She could have asked them for a franchise or a million dollars. Even if she didn't want anything they're liars and cheats who didn't seem to care that their employees were disappearing- why would she want to work for them? I disagree with the way it was written- It wasn't credible and her actions weren't consistent with the Buffy we know.
