Summary: W/T talk about things, a few months or so after the breakup
It had been months since Tara walked away from Willow, leaving the redhead to figure and straighten out her life. They had seen each other for brief moments, just barely catching glimpses of the other.
Tara knew that if they was ever going to be something between them again, Willow had to get her magic use under control. It was this ‘tough love’ that finally brought Willow around and, with the help of her friends, she did seem to get herself and the magic in check.
Now, for the first time in what seemed to be forever, Tara agreed to come over and talk to Willow. Alone.
Willow had to control the speed in which she opened the door when the bell rang. She wanted to dramatically throw it open and take the blonde into her arms, but she knew that would only manage to scare Tara and that was the furthest thing she wanted.
“Hey,” Tara said as the door opened and she came eye to eye with Willow.
“Hi,” the redhead replied with a Cheshire grin on her face.
Tara returned the smile with one of her signature half smiles and walked over the threshold. After Willow closed the door, she moved towards Tara.
“Can I give you a hug or something?”
Tara paused and thought for a moment, “Sure,” she said as she moved in and embraced Willow.
What was meant to be a quick, ‘god it’s good to see you’ kind of a hug, turned into a ‘god, I’ve fucking missed you’ kind of a hug. Both girls held onto to the other as if their lives had depended on that moment. Finally Willow pulled away, sneaking a small kiss on Tara’s cheek. The blonde lowered her head.
“Sorry, I guess it’s kind of a habit,” Willow said sheepishly.
“I-It’s ok, don’t worry.”
“Umm, you want to sit? I can put on some music or something.”
“How about we just sit right now? I would like to talk to you without any distractions, if that’s ok,” Tara said removing her jacket.
“We can sit. And talk. Talking is good right? We haven’t talked in such a long time,” Willow stopped herself and smiled. “Sorry, just a little nervous.”
“Don’t worry, nothing to be nervous about.”
Willow took Tara’s jacket and hung it up in the closet. She turned around and blurted, “Tara, I’m sorry for everything. I’m sorry for working that spell, I’m sorry for getting into stuff I couldn’t handle, I’m sorry that I hurt Dawn, I’m sorry that I betrayed your trust, I’m sorry I let anything get in between us..”
Tara just looked at her. She didn’t know whether to laugh at Willows babbling or to cry because she was hearing her admit all of this. She looked at Willow, whose eyes looked to be brimming with tears, and extended her hand out to her, “Come here, sit next to me.”
Willow wiped her eyes and walked over to the couch where Tara was. Tara turned and stared into Willows eyes and sighed. Her urge to scream at her had faded long ago and she felt she had made a sort of peace in herself and had silently forgiven Willow. Now, as she looked into the pair of green eyes across from her, she searched for the Willow she had once known, the girl she had fallen in love with. As she looked at her, she could see the pain and regret staring back from Willow.
The silence hung between them for a while before Tara finally broke it, “I believe you but, Willow, you hurt me m-more than anyone else has in my entire life. I-I would give anything to have things go back to the way they were, but I can’t lie to myself and I can’t force it.”
“I wouldn’t want you to and, Tara, I swear I’ll do anything to make this all up to you.”
Tara shook her head, “See, that’s exactly what I don’t want. If there is to be anything with you and I, we have to start over. I have to rebuild the trust I once had in you, ‘cause right now it doesn’t exist.”
Tears started forming in Willows eyes again. It killed her when Tara left and now, hearing that her trust in her was non-existent, felt like it was all happening again.
“Can you do that for me? Can you work with me on this to see where it goes?” Tara asked grabbing Willows hand to reassure her.
Willow just nodded as the tears started rolling down her cheeks. She moved her free hand up to her face to wipe away the tears when Tara stopped her.
“Let me,” Tara said as she gently wiped Willows face, the entire time looking her in the eyes. As she moved her hand down Willows face, she paused and her thumb lightly trailed across her cheek. Willow moved her hand up and held it there for a moment, taking in the warmth and gentleness of her touch.
“So, how about that music, huh?”
“Sure,” Willow sniffled as she reached on the table for the remote to the stereo. She leaned back onto the couch and was surprised to feel Tara’s arm around her.
“Sorry, guess it’s just habit,” Tara said with a small smile on her face.
Willow relaxed and let her head fall onto Tara’s shoulder. The music played as they found themselves slowly drifting off to sleep
Turn your lights down low
And pull your window curtains
Oh let Jah moon come shining in
Into our life again
Sayin' oh it's been a long long long long time
I kept this message for you girl
But it seems I was never on time
Still I wanna get through to you girl
On time
I want to give you some love
I want to give you some good good loving
Oh I oh I oh I
I want to give you some good good loving
Turn your lights down low
Never try to resist oh no
Oh let my love come tumbling in
Into our life again
Saying oh I love you
And I want you to know right now
Oh I love you
And I want you to know right now
Cause I, that I
I want to give you some love
I want to give you some good good lovin
I want to give you some love
I want to give you some good good lovin
Turn your lights down low
Never try to resist oh no
Oh let my love come tumbling in
Into our life again
Before the last verse was sung, Willow felt the light brush of Tara’s lips skim across her head and she knew that everything was going to be ok.

"Believe me I don't want to go,
And it'll grieve me 'cause I love you so
But we both know..."
