Disclaimer: I didn't dream up these lovely girls, but I sure did dream up this story, which required some borrowing of them and Jewel's song.
Summary: Just a short little pointless songfic.
Feedback: I'd love it, this is my first songfic, and first successfully finished fic at that. I'm a bit of a young one, but that really doesn't mean anything to me, so I'll do nothing of the sort in asking you to be kind because I'm just a kid. ethereal@shiverydelight.org

Song: "Jupiter" by Jewel
Note: You know, this is a lovely song. If anyone reading this likes to make music videos, it would be a great one to use. Just a friendly nudge in the side for any video makers out there.
Swallow the Moon
Willow sat quietly, watching as Tara's lithe fingers slid down the neck of the guitar. Tara had a gorgeous voice, that was for sure, but Willow had never heard her play an instrument. Could Tara play? That was stupid, of course she can. She's a beautiful, creative woman. And she's mine, Willow thought smugly.
Tara plucked at a string meekly, but it was loud enough to startle Willow from her thoughts. The blonde made tentative movements over the various strings, almost like she was afraid to make a sound. She looked at a piece of paper sitting on the small end table next to her, filled with chords and how to play them.
Tara inhaled slowly and deeply, the gentle scents of the mid-afternoon calming her. Her eyes raised slowly to meet the gaze of the curious redhead, who did nothing but smile warmly and fold her hands in her lap. The blonde lowered her head, a veil of silk falling from behind her ear, her eyes focusing back upon the acoustic guitar. It was a beautiful instrument, golden brown with pale blue etchings decorating it.
She slid her fingers up the grated strings and pushed them down upon them once, then let up, and pressed again, this time her fingers stayed. Her right hand moved from the base of the instrument up to strum lightly, causing a soft melody to emit from the guitar. I've started, she thought, keep going. She continued the gentle strumming, keeping the sounds light and airy. Her eyes were intent on the fingers of her left hand, making sure she played the right chords. She repeated the instrumental part of the first verse before she was sure she had done it all correctly. She continued the soft hum, adding in the gentle words of the song.
"Venus de Milo in her half baked shell
Understood the nature of love very well
She said, 'A good love is delicious, you can't get enough too soon.
It makes you so crazy you want to swallow the moon.'
Oh, oh Jupiter
Oh, oh be still my little heart
Oh, oh love is a flame neither timid nor tame"
Willow stared in awe at the beauty before her. Not only how Tara looked, bent over the guitar, silky blonde hair half-covering her gorgeous blue eyes that gazed up at Willow from the downward position of her face, but the wondrous sounds. She was mesmerized, through and through.
"Take these stars from my crown
Let the years fall down
Lay me out in firelight
Let my skin feel the night
Fasten me to your side
Say it will be soon
You make me so crazy, baby
Could swallow the moon"
As Tara grew more comfortable with the song itself, she was able to raise her head more to fully meet Willow's gaze, and only mesmerize the redhead more. She smiled shyly at this, and continued her song.
"My hands are two travelers they've crossed oceans and lands
Yet they are too small on the continent of your skin
Wandering, wandering I could spend my life
Traveling the length of your body each night
Oh, oh Jupiter
Oh, oh be still my little heart
Oh, oh love is a flame neither timid nor tame"
Willow couldn't resist. She moved fluidly from her place on the bench across from Tara to perch next to the serenading blonde. Her gaze rested on the guitar, Tara's fingers moving from one chord to the next, and back again. Her neck crooned forward, delicate and graceful, like a swan. She reached the fingers of one hand out to touch the side of the guitar, feeling the sounds resonate throughout.
Tara watched her before lowering her voice, and her gaze, to sing directly to Willow.
"Take these stars from my crown
Let the years fall down
Lay me out in firelight
Let my skin feel the night
Fasten me to your side
And say it will be soon
You make me so crazy, baby
Could swallow the moon"
Tara's hands stilled, and she subtly set the guitar to the side, her gaze never disconnecting from Willow's. The silence between them was one of pure adoration, until Willow scooted forward, her face inches from Tara's. The same fingers she had touched the guitar with wisped up Tara's side to touch her throat. Tara smiled, instinctively following Willow's curiosity, and sang softly.
"You make me so crazy, baby, could swallow the moon." She bent her head forward, her lips caressing the tender spot below Willow's earlobe, "Love," She whispered ethereally before gently sucking on the lobe. "you."
Willow's fingers curled round the back of Tara's neck, caressing the soft hair there tenderly. She closed her eyes to the sensations, her heart swelling full of the love she had for the other girl, and all the love they shared. "Love you too," she whispered back.
