It's Personality Type Wednesday, MKF! 1/29/03

Postby darkmagicwillow » Wed Jan 29, 2003 7:54 am

I've always enjoyed good personality type types like the Myers Briggs. They usually don't teach me much about myself, though it's interesting to see how correct they are, but they do teach me about my friends, and thinking of teaching, they helped me realize how different I was from my students and how I needed to teach differently to reach them.

My Myers-Briggs type is INTP (Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving) which is what I suspect Willow is too. Tara's more oriented towards feeling, so I think she's an INFP (Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving) but I'm not completely certain. Keirsey's book [i:3b24e32dda]Please Understand Me[/i:3b24e32dda] is a great reference on the MyersBriggs types.

What do you think Willow and Tara's personality types are? And the rest of the Scoobies for that matter? What do you think they think of personality typing tests? Like them, hate them, or just have fun with the silly ones on Quizilla where you can learn which type of LotR character you are and much sillier things?

DMW, this is a good topic... I like taking quizes & so forth.. (and puzzles too... but that's a thread for another day..)

Almost, without exception, I come up as an INFP.... Although I am rather quiet, I never thought of myself as an introvert until I heard this description:

After a long day at work, do you prefer to, go home and relax or go out with friends?? An introvert needs to be alone to recharge & an extrovert needs to be with people to recharge. I need the "down time" although I enjoy being with my friends.. :D

I see Tara as being an introvert as well as Willow, although with different secondary sets... I just don't know enough about the Myers-Briggs to do the rest of it.... :\

Yeah, I'm an INFP and I can see how Tara could be one also.
Which gives me hope of having some Tara-Like qualities. She really became an incredible woman.

I'm not sure which type I am; and I know precious little about these kinds of things. I'm coming down heavily on the side of "cranky" as my personality type though. Heh.

Cranky? You? Never. :shock

Hee. Does that mean I can come down firmly on the side of being irreverantly lustful? Or how about "piratey"? Is piratey an acceptable personality type?

I would have to say that I am type INTP. I definitely prefer my own company when I need to recharge my mental batteries. I can't unwind without the peace of solitude.

I'm not qualified to make judgements but I would think that Tara's horrible parental situation would have to be the single greatest cause for her introversion. Of course I could be totally off-base. Most of this is beyond any scope that I feel comfortable expressing an opinion on due to a lack of formal training in the requisite areas but I will go out on a limb and say neither of our two beloved are like Gollum.:eyebrow

Oh, damn, I wish I could remember what my type was!! The only thing I know for sure is that I'm definitely an I (Introverted), not an E (Extroverted). I took the test twice, with about a year between tests, several years ago. I don't recall the exact results, but the second type was the exact opposite of the first type with the exception of the first letter. (like, first I got ISTJ, then I got INFP, or something.) I'm a strong I, but the other categories are almost 50-50.

Personality tests are so much fun. The Enneagram is also a cool test. There are nine distinct personality types: the Giver, the Peacemaker, the Leader, etc. I am a 9 (Peacemaker) with very strong undercurrents of 4 (Individualist) and 5 (Observer).

Yay! Excellent topic!!

The article, attempting to show how fighting can bring fitness, calls for a healthy regimen of violent assaults and urges readers to teach those pacifists a lesson about aggression.

"In a Total Wimp Workout sidebar to the main story, Maxim depicts the Gandhi look-alike huddling in a closet, arms wrapped around his knees, head bowed. There is a deep and fundamental misunderstanding of what nonviolence is all about, Naef said. Gandhi was an incredibly strong person. Muscle strength cant possibly come close to the kind of strength Mahatma Gandhi had.

As Gandhi himself said, A person who has realized the principle of nonviolence has the God-given strength for his weapon, and the world has not yet known anything that can match it.

Pretty much off-topic, yet a little bit not, is this piece I found at tompaine.com/check_it_out/

It's about how people on the side of the Bush administration simplistically dismiss the concerns of hundreds of thousands of peace marchers around the nation.

This quote, in particular, reminded me of some of the shit we've (Kittens) had to put up with:

"These are times for smears, however, because the establishment has run out of arguments, defenses, and excuses. Kelly's tantrum, and he does seem to have them, is the product of a mind that -- as with, say, Communists and Christian fundamentalists -- places excessive emphasis on theoretical assumptions and too little on actual facts."

Here's another personality test, for those who are interested:

ColorQuiz

It's a color thing; you pick the colors that appeal to you. It's really really quick and easy, you can do it in 2 minutes. Here's the very first part of what it said about me:

Existing Situation: Insecure. Seeks roots, stability, emotional security, and an environment providing greater ease and fewer problems, but is either unwilling or unable to exert the effort.

That is probably the most accurate one-sentence description of me I've ever seen. :shock

Cool daily DMW.

Took the test, I'm iNFj [Introverted Intuitive, Feeling, Judging] Councelor Idealist. I was a bit surprised by the result (mostly the judging, but that was only 1%), but once I read the explanation it made sense. I've never actually taken this specific type of test, though I knew I was an introvert from one of the old pop psych quizzes at school, a million years ago. Quite interesting, I'm going to send this to a friend who can never understand how I know things I'm 'not supposed' to know.

I think you're right about Tara and Willow (having just read through the various descriptions). It seems to fit quite well with them. As for the whole concept of personality tests and the like, well they can be revealing, but I like to think of them as the cotton candy of life - nice to have but not necessary and too much will rot your gut.

DMW, you do come up with the most interesting things to make people think. :wink

OOO *runs to take the color quiz thingy*

Kind of reminds me of Colorgenics...back when it was cool and not this huge thing to get you to give them money.

Your Existing Situation
Working to improve her image in the eyes of others in order to obtain their compliance and agreement with her needs and wishes.

Frightening accurate....as these color ones usually are...how odd

But I love this one... what Cure song are you?

I'm "Love Song" ... hee.

oh, I did this test a few years ago. I am an INTJ - the "mastermind". lol. One thing I remember from my profile information, is that we INTJ's don't like to be touched, except by those we are extremely committed to. Thats why I'm so cold and unfeeling :lol

HmmmIm a healing idealist (iNFp), at least that what Keirseys test indicates. I find that interesting, because I thought I would be more of an inspector guardian type person. I always get high scores on the introvert scale, so I guess that part isnt much of a surprise. Too bad they dont have a test to measure crankiness; Im sure I would show up as an introverted, thinking , perceptive cranky type.

The color test was kind of fun:

Clings to her belief that her hopes and ideas are realistic, but needs encouragement and reassurance. Applies very exacting standards to her choice of a partner and wants guarantees against loss or disappointment.

Longs for tenderness and for a sensitivity of feeling into which she can blend. Responsive to anything esthetic and tasteful
Does not wish to be involved in differences of opinion, contention or argument, preferring to be left in peace.

I could have probably come up with the same conclusion from reading my astrology chart. Sounds pretty Cancer/Libra/Pisces to me.

I'm an INTJ, but it's been so long since I took the test that I don't remember what it means.

I heard of a simple test: What shape do you most identify with?
* Triangle
* Square
* Circle
* Squiggly line

I'm sure both Willow and Tara would be introverted, Tara a little more so. Willow is definitely a Thinker and Tara a Feeler. Willow would love personality tests, and probably has knowledge of many. Tara might find them amusing, if she were listening to Willow talk about them.

Oooooh, I love quizzes. Though I've never gotten my Myers-Briggs done professionally, I did the online quiz thing... I'm an ENFP (Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving)... A Champion... Hmmm, fun stuff. My E/I score is probably very close... I seem to fluctuate from The Solitude Queen to Ms. Talk Your Ear Off At The Bar. I suppose everyone's like that to a certain degree... In high school, I was an INTJ... Guess I've changed a little bit :blush . I think our lovely Tara would prolly be an INFP and our equally as lovely Willow... Um... INTJ? Not sure. More quizzes? Yes please. According to Quizilla, my sexual appeal is my "tomboy"-ish nature: "You are sexy and utterly irresistable. You can attract girls, guys, whoever you want. You tend to be loyal, caring, and possesive." I'm just loving that "whoever you want" comment. Gee, if only I'd known that all along :hmm . K, going to get breakfast now. Mmmmm, muffins.

Patches, you're very right about not taking them too seriously, but this one did help me understand that my students needed to be taught differently as they weren't mostly iNtuitive types as I and apparently most of the kittens are. Now I have some indication of why I find so many interesting people here. I've always found iNtuitives easier to talk with, perhaps because they tend to like books more.

Ruth, I haven't seen a test with a cranky/noncranky axis. I'm not sure how I would test. I'm normally not cranky, but if you interrupt me while I'm reading or writing, prepare to die...

For my attractiveness type, I tested as nerdslut: "You attract your partners with your wallflower charms, intelligence, and thirst for knowledge. Chances are you look cute in glasses. You know when to cute loose and this can be exciting and fun to those who meet your high standards." Lo and behold, there's an entire nerdslut web site, complete with Latin for breakups and other useful hints. Have fun with it.

Nice topic for today! I am most certainly an introvert of some kind. It is impossible for me to recharge without being completely by myself for a substantial period of time, and I love every second of that solitude! Also, I can get inspiration when I'm around people, but it often is easier to find the inspiration I need to write when I am alone.
Wow, it feels good to post in here again! I should start doing this more often!!!!!!

A few years ago when I took this test, I sorted out as a Rational Mastermind.

Apparently I'm a different person these days, 'cause now I'm a Guardian.

Interesting. :hmm

What changed? I'm writing more, obsessing about the store less (true, except for the past week), spending more time with Darcy, and finding the Kitten and the great people here. :grin

That could be it. :p
