I was talking about the concept of "cool" a couple weeks ago with a friend at work. We decided it's like obscenity, pretty much indefinable but you know it when you see it. Also, what's cool/not cool depends on your community's standards.
When you're sitting around with your friends playing D&D, you all probably think you're cool. When you're talking to the pretty girl who smells like cinnamon because she's the president of FHA and she hangs out in that kitchen for [i:d22cfa9cd0] fun[/i:d22cfa9cd0]...uh...
And your D&D friends think she's the epitome of uncool. And her monogrammed apron-wearing friends think you're the biggest dork ever born. (But you think that's got to be because they just haven't seen your [i:d22cfa9cd0] Sandman[/i:d22cfa9cd0] collection yet. You'll never learn.)
Community standards. It's all about community standards.
Dear God, sometimes I just need to get down on my knees and thank whatever Higher Power there may be that I survived high school. Coolness is such a non-issue for me now.
I guess I think it's cool to be whatever you naturally are. It's not cool to [i:d22cfa9cd0] try[/i:d22cfa9cd0] to be cool, you know?
I can't imagine what community would think I'm cool, though.
I haven't missed an episode of [i:d22cfa9cd0] Passions[/i:d22cfa9cd0] in almost two years. (And I never will. The shock would KILL me!)
I'm listening to Leo Sayer right [i:d22cfa9cd0] now[/i:d22cfa9cd0]. He makes me feel like dancing.
And you know what else? I like Barry Manilow, too. I really do.
What is this thing, "cool"?
