It's the first weekend of 2003 Weekend MKF 1/4/03

Postby Still Waters Run Deep » Sat Jan 04, 2003 2:40 am

A new year. With new hopes, challenges, things to try and forgive and forget, things to put right, resolutions to make [and break], friendships to reforge, others to quietly drop. New roads to choose from.

What would Willow and Tara be deciding on for the coming year? They are both still in college, but much further along, looking at having to go into that big bad world out there, and earn a crust. So what are their plans?

I favour Willow becoming a Doctorate student on a decent grant [now that's a real fantasy in the UK!] enabling Tara to explore her artistic side in painting and photography.....................

The more extreme and wild speculations will gain extra kitty points....

hmmm, I think that Willow will finish college studying Psychology or something to that effect because based on what I know about the classes shes taken it sounds like she was going for something like that. Then maybe she can be a psychologist. And I think Tara might graduate but decide to open her own magic shop. I could really see her running the Magic Box. Or maybe a New Age or Occult shop.

And both jobs are day jobs so they have all night to cuddle. :D

If she could get her doctorate and be a tenured professor, that would be a very nicely secure position... plus, the idea of Willow teaching is really cute!

Happy birthday to Mr. Braille (inventor of the written language) and to Utah (the American state)!

Bah, I have a doctorate, piss-all good it has done me! ;)
I should have saved my cash and gone to cooking school instead. People always have to eat.

So we went on a family trip to Ikea today. My son loves the place. He can play, there are lot's of other kids there and in his words "it smells like meatballs."

Other than that very little is going on today. Gotta get working on the new room for the new baby (thus the trip to Ikea). We are decorating it in bugs. Cute bugs, not scary ones.

Have a great one kittens!

Yeah, with the flood of PhDs and the low demand for faculty, academia is steadily harder to have as a career... but once the position is achieved, THEN you're good! Stupid lack of jobs for liberal arts people... (says the probable philosophy major...) :\

Another Happy New Year Kittens!!

Always good to follow my nearby kitten, WebWarlock!

I think that Willow would be a highly paid computer programmer. I think that Tara would go for either a Master's in Social Work or possibly become a doctor of Psychology.

Tara is so empathic; she'd be great at therapy.

In my discipline, there are few full-time, tenure-track jobs for PhDs/DMAs. And those jobs tend to go to pianists, rather than to those of us who teach orchestral instruments. I once thought of going back for a doctorate, but now I think I'd rather have an MBA. I think people who have liberal arts backgrounds have the potential to be very successful in business, because they've learned how to think, and they tend to develop good oral and written communication skills. (Especially Philosophy majors, Penrose Orleans.:wink )

I could see both Willow and Tara being very successful in any of their endeavors. Tara, for all of her shyness, would probably choose a job in which she'd deal with people. I agree with those who think she'd probably become a therapist. I think Willow would tend to choose a more technical occupation. She'd probably end up owning a successful software company.

edited 'cause the dog interrupted me

Hmm, I think Willow is a bit of a tough call. She'd be so good at so many things that planning for her future would be difficult. Plus, she would want to have a job where she knew she was helping people, so that could limit her choices by a lot. I can see her becoming a doctor, and a damn good one too.

Tara is so empathetic, I see her wanting to work with people who are often overlooked and discarded. I think Tara more than Willow would recognize how difficult it is to plan your life too long term however. You can think you've got your life all figured out and then, suddenly, it all changes in a moment. You round a corner and bump into someone, you go to a WICCA meeting and catch sight of someone interesting and next thing you know, everything you thought life held for you changes.

Life has the potential to be very exciting and unexpected at times. I think it's very important to stay open to that. To not allow oneself to simply ossify in one's current situation just because it's comfortable and familiar. I guess that's part of what is so wonderful about new years -- it allows us to rethink where we are heading and who we are becoming.

I'm happy this new years b/c of all of the unexpected opportunities that lay before me. :)

I'm particularly excited to see that somethings which have been a bit off kilter are falling back into place, right where they belong. Kinda like that feeling you get when you see that your favorite Pens story has been updated and you read it and realize how perfect and wonderful the world seems again. ;) Everything as it should be. :clap

Hee. That was really freakin' cool.

Okay. Taking my Siggy Freud action figure to the zoo now so he can analyze the naked mole rats. "I seenk zat you are expressing repressed hostility towards your fazhah with zees flitting around naked theeeng. Zees need to expose your most... intimate areas to ze world... I believe zat it is rooted in a desire to overcome your lack of external genitalia."

Heh. Dork. Party of one.

funny, i'm thinking about dropping out of grad school to go to culinary school (i want to be a pastry chef!). only problem is that culinary school is actually really expensive and it's a lot harder to get grants/financial aid/etc. for culinary school. :(

thank you for your kind comments... but for those kittens who really thanked me as if I did it... I didn't do it... I'm nice & I'm good, but not in that way... (actually, I'm not good at all ;) )

I found an article at time or newsweek or msnbc about the site youaremyfriend.com and I thought I would share it with you..

it works this way, you put your friends first & last name in the addy line separated by a dot, then .youaremyfriend.com

Here is an example:

xita.youaremyfriend.com/

or

willow.rosenberg.youaremyfriend.com/

so, there you are... have fun, kittens :grin
p.s. the link requires flash

i hope everyone had a good new years day :)

i think willow would get a nice, highly said job in the computer industry, whereas tara would persue her interest in the occult, maybe going into research.

well currently i'm in bed (its 2:30am here!) and trying out posting with my new phone (you really should try reading fanfic on a 1.5in screen ;) )
