It's Double Shifts suck Tuesday MKF! 10/08

Postby Arwen » Tue Oct 08, 2002 1:17 am

Okay, I'm so tired my brain is throbbing, so I'm sorry if there is already a thread for today and I missed it, but if not, rant on!

I just pulled a double, because someone decided not to show up, and instead of being smart and refusing to stay, I did. As a result I'm so hyper right now that I think if you spun me around three times in a circle I'd probably take off like the road runner. I HATE having the need to be a responsible person sometimes.

So, my question of the day is, who would be more likely to go goo goo after a double shift at a stressful fast food type (Tim Hortons for all you Canadians) restaurant, Willow or Tara? My vote for feeling this wired is certainkly Willow, but I think Tara could be equally silly given the chance. :-) And who could you see serving coffee more? Dumb quetsions I know, but I was thinking about WIllow and Tara all night.

Have a great day kittens! :) I'm off to bed because it's back to work for me in 8 hours!

Arwen, you have my sympathies. When I was in school I remember being a security guard on the night shift, and stumbling around almost asleep on my feet as I did my rounds.

Ahhhh, TimHo's - nothing like a cup of java and a hunk of fat fried in fat (i.e. a donut) in the morning.

RE: the daily question: Willow for both, absolutely. She's always been the one with the reaction to mochas, and she'd probably want to share that goodness with others.

I feel for you, Arwen. I used to work at at hotel, and from time to time when I had to cover the night shift I would actually [i:4b1b56ae28] crawl under[/i:4b1b56ae28] the reservations desk and go to sleep. Double shifts are enough to drive anybody bonkers.

**Attention Chicago Kitties!**
I have a spare ticket for the [b:4b1b56ae28] sold-out Sleater-Kinney concert[/b:4b1b56ae28] at the Metro this Thursday night (10/11), because at the last minute my gf has to #@&!% work. Does anybody want to use it?

Info: It's an all-ages show starting at 6:30. The opening act is the Quails. The ticket was only $12 (plus a $3.50 "convenience charge," blech).

[Mods, I understand if this is inappropriate for the daily thread, but I wanted to offer a Kitty the chance to see the best band in America (!!), rather than simply selling the ticket to a stranger. So I hope it's OK.]

sorry to hear that you had to work a double shift Arwen, they do suck.

i think it would be Willow that would be more hyper, since she probably would be drinking lots of coffee

Double shifts suck, dude. But DEFINATELY Willow to your question. She's so much more likely to be hyper after working a double shift as opposed to Tara who would probably be more beat than anything.

depends how long the double shift is ... where I work (library) all the shifts are different lengths, depending on the time of day. Morning shifts are the shortest (1.5 hours) and get increasingly long (5 hours, 6 on weekends), so if you did a double weekend shift, 12 hours would be a long time, but if you do a morning double shift, 3 hours is the same length as the shift I'm working at this very moment! I do a double on Friday that is only 6 hours, not so bad. But the library is also a lot more laid-back than fast food jobs. I basically get paid to do my schoolwork :)

Double shifts, not where I work, they just call it normal contract hours. :lol

I've only worked 2 days this week and I've already worked 20 hours, I only work 37 hours a week.

My hours are always all over the place - but then my first editor did drill it into me that "news isn't a 9 to 5 job, y'know" :rolleyes

As for Willow and Tara getting with the wacky behaviour after a double shift...I think it'd be Tara who came out the wackiest. Or maybe it'd just show more, cos she's usually so serene :)

A double shift! At Timmy's! That must sucketh much.

I can't say I've ever worked fast food or anything similar; doubt I could stomach it for long (the work, not just the food).

Anyway, got my new glasses today! No scratches, so everything looks so clear! Me happy. :D

Later, peeps!

As many have stated before: Willow for sure.

I never had to do a double-shift so far, but being the kind of person I am, I often do homework until wee hours of morning (7 am was worst) and I am actually working at the moment (it's past midnight here) as I couldn't possibly have done that earlier today :\

Tangent to mention something that has been driving me crazy for days now: The math book I'm working on mentions "holomorph" (don't know what they're called in English) functions at least 5 times per page and I keep reading "homophobe" :rolleyes

arrrggg, i hate doubles!!! I work in a restaurant and i had to do one on sunday, i was there for about eleven hours... Sundays are always chaos even if there aren't many customers! (it was really windy outside and the top flew off a cappachino my friend was carrying onto this customer, he was not impressed) So you have my sympathies, i was gonna say you have to just say no, but i never can so i'll try not to be hypocritical...

and... definitely willow would be the wired one, but Tara would serve the coffee cos Willow would have been banned from using the coffee machine after too many mochas led to disaster...

aaaahhh...no double shifts for me! Not even single shifts! mwahahahaha!....actually it's b/c I can't/kinda won't get a job, but that's okay for the moment. I've got too many papers to do to have to deal with a job. But the money could be good...I dunno.

Anyways, after a double shift I think Willow would be all crazy acting like, from lack of sleep and would be like "Hey! Tara! Hey! Lookit me! Hey!" and be all attention-getty. But if Tara had the double shift I think she'd be the really tired like type and just want to come home and go to sleep in willow's arms. Awww...

See, i'd have to manage to somehow be employed to even have the threat of a double shift thrown at me.
not that i would mind a steady 14 hour day TV gig of any sort.... that i would certainly love and be SOOOOO willing to do.
oh yes.

peace.

I thought I had moved past double shifts...but now they just call them mandatory meetings. lol I got a meeting popped on me last night. I had class, and a test, but I still had to stay. Oh well...at least I get paid for it. :D

Happy Tuesday.

Hey - I guess you could say I've been doubleshifting since Sunday since I'm out a store manager's meeting until tomorrow morning (Wed), but that may not count since I have been sitting down. Although maybe it does since the days are totally schedulted from 7am breakfast to the end of dinner at 9pm. Tomorrow I fly back from Nashville to Philadelphia (on airport shuttle at 7am) and then work in my store until 8:30pm, then Thur and Fri I'm scheduled to work doubles in my store from 8am-8pm. I'm gonna be soooo wired!

And Willow gets my vote to be goooooooing. She's naturally wired anyhow, so being super tired is really going to make her hyper.

Ciao, Melissa

Well my boss obviously thinks I don't work long enough as he has suggested I work overtime tonight. Monday I clocked in at 7:20 a.m., and left at 7:45 p.m., yesterday I was in at 7:20 and left at 5:00 p.m.

When I came in this morning to an even bigger pile of work and his suggestion I almost went home again. But I didn't. Had a cup of really strong coffee, played some music, and just got stuck in. But he better not come near me today! [img:5c91abdd84]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/winkgreen.gif[/img:5c91abdd84]

Thanks for the sympathy, heh. My double shift was a little over 18 hours. Sucketh much. I got about three hours of sleep, and then went in again last night for my normal shift, but was so tired last night I couldn't sleep. How stupid is that anyway? I should have just passed out! Tonight will be interesting at work. I might just break down and drink the coffee. Not that there's anything wrong with Tim Horton's coffee, just that when you serve it so much the thought of drinking it makes my stomach turn. I'm a tea lady anyway. :-)

i'm willing to believe that willow would go the most crazy after a double shift. (the answer to the first question)

for the second question...serving more coffee...i'd say tara b/c she'd be serving the coffee to willow :)
