This doesn't have anything to do with concerts, but I didn't know where else to put it. The UPN affiliate in Nashville, TN (aka The Buckle Of The Bible Belt) just reran [i:e550bbddb9] Entropy[/i:e550bbddb9]. The W/T kiss at the end was uncut.

:bounce

I remember some people saying that it was chopped by as much as 6 seconds during its first run in the U.S., so I thought I'd mention that.

oh, and for those of you who also have an "embarrassing" first concert experience, I feel your pain. Dancing in the aisles to "Hangin' Tough" will scar you for life.

Ah Red Rocks. I'm thinking of going to see Melissa Etheridge there Friday.

I saw the GoGos there the first time around. Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, the Pretenders.

And can I say you have not lived until you've heard k.d. lang's perfect voice in those acoustics.

Thanks Puff for the good luck. Luckily no kids were there, unfortunately it was meetings all day. On 4 hours of sleep it was a struggle. It was also a struggle cause I was doing 1/2 of training and had no idea what I was doing. And we had guests from another school to hear me present this. Well, I guess it went ok :p and I have to present more tomorrow, perhaps I'll review the materail tonight, or maybe I'll just go chat :p

Oh and I think we need to start dating all the daily threads as soon as they are made, we are getting a lot of participation in old ones, it would not hurt!

My first concert was to hear Laura Niro, longer ago than I care to remember. As a matter of fact, I couldnt even drive at that time and my Dad had to drop my girlfriend and me off and pick us up. It was an excellent performance and I was shocked and saddened when I heard of her death a few years ago. She was a wonderful writer and performer.

I could see Willow and Tara going to Lilith, and having a wonderful time.

ok I'm just a lurker, but I had to make a post to this topic. I just recently went to the Lenny Kravitz and Pink concert in S.A. I had the best time! I kinda felt bad for Pink cause everyone in the crowd was just sitting in the lawn and in their seats not really getting into it. She did an awesome job live though. As for Lenny Kravitz, I just have to say that man is amazing! His show was awesome! He was interacting with the audience, walking through the crowd, and telling people in the lawn seats to come run up to the front. The drummer, I forget her name, but she did a solo for what seemed 10mins and received a standing O. Anyway, this is about first concerts mine was Dave Matthews out at the Woodlands last year. Not a big fan, my friends just happened to win some tickets on a radio station. Enough rambling, back to lurking

Wow, I thought Eliza looked lovely tonight. Looks like she's really starting to hit the big time with the press tour and the film with Deniro. She seems to be working almost non-stop. And that big Buffy project mention? Nada. Nothing. Zilch. So much for any publicity ME thought they might get out of that appearance.

Yeah too bad, so sad for Joss and ME.

Maybe ED told them no. Well I can hope right?

I forgot one sad little detail in my concert goings.
There is one I did see as a kid.
Up With People.

AGGHHHH, still having the nightmares thank you.

She may have intended to talk about it, but the interviews go fast and once Letterman gets on a tangent you just go with the flow. She was there to promote her movie and got sidetracked by Letterman's concern over her voice & poison ivy and then it was over quick.

Hiya [b:70ae62d9a0]Arafel[/b:70ae62d9a0]

I definitely want to be your assistant now. You met Maighread from Altan? I saw her in a shop once, she was buying onions. Not quite the same eh? I live in County Kildare, but I work in Dublin. Don't speak much gaelic, only what I remember from school sadly.

So . . . about that assistant job . . .

AutumnT, you must live in Colorado. I go to Red Rocks all the time. It is a beautiful venue. By contrast, I despise Fiddler's Green. I saw Melissa last year at the Paramount and she was great.

Molly, you must have access to great sessions. Mairad is really nice. She was very encouraging when I saw her on her birthday and I told her about taking up the fiddle after being inspired by her. She got remarried, this time to Dermot, the accordion player in Altan, and they seem really happy. I hope to visit Ireland sometime and spend time hitting local sessions and listening to great players.

I don't care at all for Fiddler's Green and thought it was unfortunate that Lilith Faire moved there its last year here.

Hey Kittens,
My first concert... :hmm I went to see Styx Paradise Theatre tour in 1981. I was a sophomore in high school and I played varsity softball and practically the whole team got tickets. The only problem was the concert was on a night when we had a State Championship game so we were all pretty stressed that we may have to miss the show. Luckily, the game went smooth, we won the State Champs and made it to the show just in time for the opening. :grin :clap
Quarterflash opened for them and we missed most of that. It was a good concert. The following year, we all got tickets to see Journey for the Escape tour. We didn't have a game that night. Mainly because we were dethroned as Champions. Oh well, you can't win them all!!!

Love to all,
Barb

Since we're kinda talking about musical tastes... I was reading one of Canada's national papers a few months ago. A reporter had gone to the Buffy and Enterprise set.

He was brutal about how Buffy's set was all dingy and underfunded and, just plain stupid. He said that Enterprise's set was supremely detailed down to insider jokes inscribed on the control panel thingy (ok so I don't watch Enterprise).

Buffy, on the other hand, expected the viewer to believe that Spike subscribed to Doll's House Magazine and Dawn read Paul Reiser's book. The thing that made him the most doubtful, however, was that in Willow's CD holder -- Willow being a "powerful lesbian witch" -- was a Huey Lewis and The News CD, along with an Eddie Money CD. He just thought that was the stupidest thing ever.

If I see the article again sometime, I'll link it.

My first concert was in 1983, The Cars' Heartbreak City tour. Wang Chung was the opener, for Chrissake. I was twelve and with my best friend, who was far more adventurous than I. It was in Queens and we lived in Brooklyn. We got lost on the way home and I was absolutely petrified on the subway ride home at three in the morning.

That's also where I was passed my first joint. It may well have been oregano wrapped in notebook paper for all the affect it had on me.

Live music is one of my best-loved pleasures. I prefer small club venues, but I would go anywhere to see Tori Amos. Memorable shows this year include Rufus Wainwright, (the lovely, the achingly lovely) Neko Case, and Rock Four, an Israeli rock band who did one of the best shows I've ever seen for about 20 people. Next show: Spoon on Sept. 11. They play with incredible precision and clarity.

Willow and Tara? But of course they have everything Tori ever recorded, including those peskily expensive imports. They also like Emily Bezar, Kate Bush, Veda Hill, and Happy Rhodes -- anyone in the ectophile pantheon. It's hard to imagine their rock side, but I can certainly see Willow in occasional sleater-kinney mode.

Hey [b:de579bf3a8]Arafel[/b:de579bf3a8] did you know Maighread and Dermot have a pub in Donegal? I can't remember the name of it though. My friend and I keep threatening to make an excursion up there some weekend.

There are tons of pubs around Dublin that have live Irish music; ah many the night a happily drunk Molly sat singing along. And they didn't even through me out! [img:de579bf3a8]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/winkgreen.gif[/img:de579bf3a8]

Molly, I did know about the pub. And it's funny, because the last time I saw Altan live Mairad invited everyone in the crowd to come to the pub and have a drink if they were ever in Ireland.

I'm fascinated by the different fiddle styles, depending on the County. County Donegal has a fiery, almost Scottish style, where many of the notes are individually bowed, and County Sligo (Kevin Burke) has more ornamentation, especially rolls, and County Clare (Martin Hayes) has that slow, lyrical, almost dreamy aspect to it.

We have a nice session here in Denver that I go to sometimes and play.

Autumn, I was at that last Lillith Fair. I left after Natalie Merchant, because I thought she was so great there was no need to stay for Sarah. It was a great day. Cowboy Junkies were beautiful, Joan Osborne and Paula Cole both rocked hard, and Natalie was Natalie.

Hello to all of you, just adding my mustard here (I know it's hopeless trying to transfer foreign sayings to english but I couldn't resist, it sounds so silly)
Mmh, my first, bigger concert was Jewel, back in the old days, when she was still amazing, the new album is... mmh,..mediocre...
And I liked reading 'bout Tori here and there. Being a huge EWF myself (Ears With Feet, for those of you who don't know) her concerts have always been the most spritual, sensual event I've ever experienced !!!... try it, it's better than (insert pleasurable moments/things).
And therefore I have to say, yes maybe Tara would listen to Tori, especially Boys for Pel, but I can't see her going to her concerts... some friends of mine who claim to be fans can't even stand the live videos, 'coz they are "too intense", they'd sit there cringing and feeling embarrassed or something like that, poor bastards.
Heather Nova did end her tour here last month and she totally rocked ! I won't get started about all the other amazing singer/songwriters I adore, this post would be endless....
And my last concert was "Moana and the Tribe" a Kiwi/Maori-band, complete with halfnaked warriors and everything. When three of them performed the Haka, it sent shivers down my spine..
I'loved to see the Bangles, I was a huge fan, but they're doing a revival, yay!
Anybody ever heard of "U-Bahnkontrolleure in tiefgefrorenen Frauenkleidern"? Buehler? No? Figures, sigh...
Last attempt, anybody know VAST?

Ok, I'm outta here :grin .

I was actually going through my attic today and found the shirt that I had worn to my first concert.

Although I am a [b:273c8feeae] [u:273c8feeae][/u:273c8feeae][/b:273c8feeae][/u] music fan, I really haven't been to a lot of concerts. My first concert was The Monkees, my second concert was The Monkees, the third was Rusted Root, and the most recent was Guster. I am really trying to get out to see more concerts, but I never have anyone to go with.

I will be [i:273c8feeae] forever[/i:273c8feeae] jealous of my father he has been to dozens of concerts including Janis Joplin, Simon and Garfunkel, Elton John, Santana, and just numersous other great bands.

I could definitly see Willow and Tara going to Lilith Fair together and just having a great time.

I'm glad that I could share my embaressing concert record with all of you.

Just saw Jimmy Eat World last night...they totally ROCKED! They played totally great, and Jim's first words to the crowd went something like "Just remember there are PEOPLE in front of you...they're human, so watch the pushing...or we'll stop playing." It would've been an awesome night 'cept there were some girls a few rows up from my gf and I who decided it would be funny to throw some skittles as us all through the second opening act. Fortunately, half of the shit hit the people in front of us and the girl got a security guard to give them a warning.

I see Will as an alternative chick...Tara's into that and maybe some folkier stuff.... like IG :) .

Ahhhh AutumnT, you can probably feel my jealousy vibes from here! heh heh

Oh to live in a place where whether or not to go to a Melissa concert is even ever going to be an option!!

(Damn cancelled Sydney shows.... it's been two years and I still haven't gotten over it... *sigh*)

As for Willow and Tara... Willow is definitely an alternative girl... a bit of punk chick rock maybe? I could so see that. Tara would have to be more mellow, but still different. I could actually see her chilling out to Bjork or something like that. (Or maybe I'm just projecting here?? :) )
