It's Waiting Impatiently Thursday, MKF

Postby oneyedchicklet » Thu Aug 08, 2002 6:29 am

Greetings Kittens,
I'm sitting here waiting for the phone to ring from a potential new job. I was trying to pass the time and when I looked at the clock [b:6ed2bbfdc1] again[/b:6ed2bbfdc1] I noticed there was no daily thread. Well this is my first attempt and a great way to keep me occupied. So here goes nothing...

What kind of job do you think Willow and Tara would have and what do you do to earn an honest living?

[i:6ed2bbfdc1] Barb taps fingers and paces back and forth, back and forth[/i:6ed2bbfdc1] :pray :pray :pray

Hi Barb,

Is it like a "Yes or No" ? phone call ? cause I can imagine that brutal!! What's the Job?

Tara and Willow ? some of the university/research sort of thing so they can continue the long scooby tradition..

Me, no honest living here, just a poor, really poor college student.

I hope everything goes well with the job thing, Barb.

:hmm
Willow would have a job doing something brainy, computers or chemestry. Tara, I think, would want to go out and help people. Maybe she would work with kids. Or maybe Willow and Tara could run something together, a daycare where kids learn how to do chemestry and use computers!!.....Maybe not.

Doh, I've got to take my cats to the vet pretty soon, hopefully I don't get sliced and diced. :( Wish me luck!

Happy Thursday everyone. ;)

I love those new smileys ;)

Well, let's see :hmm , i can picture willow doing something related to computers, like a professional hacker for a state agency or something, while i see tara doing something more social/humanitarian.

As for me, still a student :party

Hope you'll have the job :pray .

Hey! I'm on that very same waiting-for-a-phone-call bus myself! :party In my case, I'm not even to the stage of waiting for a yes-or-no call. I'm still trying to get in for an interview.

And how sad is this? The other day I realized that if I get this job I'm up for, it'll be the first full-time career-track paying-type job I've ever had that involved doing something that I actually want to do. All my previous writing was on a sale-by-sale basis, and the full-time writing I've done for the past year hasn't generated any income yet. The rest of the time, I've been an engineer, which paid the bills but has never been what I really wanted to do. And I'm [b:f7e4afe303] 37[/b:f7e4afe303]. :shock

So, do I really really really want this job I'm up for? Oh yeah....

Anyway, [b:f7e4afe303] good luck Barb![/b:f7e4afe303] And if you've got any good luck to spare later on, send it my way, okay? :)

Have a great day, everybody! :bounce

Hi all

Today has not been a good day, I am ill I hate being ill, I have been ill for 4 days now and I show no signs of recovery - not good at all.

Jobs for the girls well Willow will probably own a software company while Tara would be a teacher & both would find time to help battle the forces of evil.

I earn my living by making sure the food that we buy from a number of well known UK supermarkets is safe to eat.

Well good luck with the job

Well, I think a lot of fics make the W/T job question easier... I'm definitely a fan of Tara the historian/museum curator and Willow the computer security mastermind...

As for me... ha! I make a subpar living working at the campus paper. I've been in almost 4 years and am as high as I want to go on the ladder, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I'd love to be a designer/copy editor for a magazine, though... I'm thinking E Weekly... even though they've kind of sold out in recent years... Or maybe a radio station... I would love to be a producer in a radio or TV capacity. because I'm organized! (or that's what the voices in my head say anyway)

Barb, I hope the phone rings with good news. Think of all the pacing as low impact aerobics.

I agree with what's been said so far: I see Willow in the computer field, and Tara helping people. Tara would probably be a child psychologist.

What do I do for honest work? I play and teach the flute. I also have a safety net career in case I get outed and lose the majority of my students. So, I'm also an accountant specializing in income taxation of individuals, estates, and trusts. I keep only a few clients at this point, but I'm enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service and I keep that certification current in case I need to step into that gig full-time in order to support myself.

Sorry to go all stream-of-consciousness. But it's interesting that we glbt people have to think of the impact of our private lives on our jobs, isn't it? Yes, Joss, gay is [i:3e76b98f88] so[/i:3e76b98f88] passe'.

[i:3e76b98f88] edited to add, Bob, I hope your phone rings with happy news, too.[/i:3e76b98f88]

Grr...jobs. I've been job hunting for what seems like forever (but is actually two months). I've been offered back my job tutoring at the local University which I'm very good at and enjoy immensley but at this point I think I need a career. So I'm thinking of swapping my nice cosy teaching job to join the Police. Don't hate me.

Good luck with the job Barb!

Ok, Breath Barb!!!

I got the job. A big Woo Hoo for me. :party :party

I am so psyched now. I can finally tell my homophobic boss to take this job and shove it. I just wish I had a girlfriend that I can bring with me and give her a big smack on the lips in front of him.

Drinks are on me tonight!!!

Congratulations on getting the job, oneyedchicklet !!
BBOven Guy I hope you get the job you're up for too.
And if you think you're sad, I'm 40 and I've just completed my first year
in the first grown up full-time career type job I've ever had.
hey mscheckmate nice to meet a fellow musician. I'm a viola player.
BBOven Guy, I seem to remember when I first found the board I saw a post where you said you were rehearsing the Faure Requiem so you must be a musician too. ( God I love that piece and it's great for violas cos the violins don't play a lot of the time and instead the violas divide into all these lovely harmonies and counter melodies, sigh....)

Not professionally, but I do sing in two choirs - one at my church and the other connected to Occidental College in LA (where they filmed the college years of [i:24f056de21] 90210[/i:24f056de21] :party ). And yes, my church choir did four movements of the Faur Requiem in our June concert. In another two-and-a-half weeks, my other choir will start getting ready for a performance of the Mozart Requiem we're going to do the morning of September 11.

:hmm

Well, to answer the topic ... they could work together. Tara could do the design for websites and Willow could implement and edit them.

If not working together, I see Tara doing something classy, like a curator or something to that effect. I like the idea of her being a writer as well.

For Willow, I see something very professional ... white collar stuff. Computers ... university lecturer ... even a medical doctor.

Me? Well :whistle I am the Asst. to the Dir. of a Holocaust Education Center in Southern California. It's a gratifying (yet extremely stressful) job.

congratulations on the job, oneyedchicklet :)

As far as jobs that Willow and Tara would have, Willow's would be in the computer field, either writing programs or designing security for networks. Tara's would either have something to do with helping people- social worker or child care, or maybe an artist.

As for me, inbetween taking some courses on web design, i work as a delivery driver.

Mozart Requiem, another of my favourites and I'd think a good choice for September 11th. So what voice are you, bass? baritone? tenor?

It's Waiting Impatiently Thursday, MKF

Postby BBOvenGuy » Thu Aug 08, 2002 1:05 pm

I'm a first tenor. Most of the time, anyway. In the summer, when the choir at my church consists of whoever shows up that morning, I've been known to visit the bass section, or even the alto section if the alto part isn't too high for me.

The Mozart Requiem performance is actually part of a world-wide effort. The organizers are trying to arrange for performances around the world, each starting at 8:46am local time in commemoration of the time when the first plane hit the World Trade Center. If it works, it'll mean that for the entire day, at any given time there will be someone somewhere in the world performing the piece.

*sends Bob alot of luck* :)

I could see Willow going for something in the science or tech area and Tara working in a book store.

While Im not on the "waiting for a job bus" my gf is and she's still waiting; *crosses fingers* I wont cross my toes cause I sprained or jammed one of them and it hurts like hell(nice shade of purple too).

Stay cool kitties(if its hot in your area) ooh I just thought of something, job perks! Tara would prolly get an employee discount and come home w/th books, always a reason to smile:) Don't know about Willow's perks though, free science equipment? :P

The new smileys are awesome To answer the question :hmm
I think Tara would own a an occult shop, not a magic shop, she wouldnt do that
to Willow..I could see her reading Tarot cards for people in the occult shop and Willow would probably, as someone said own or work for a software company...

As for me, I manage a Ritz Camera Store, have worked for them for about 3 yrs and i have to say im not making a living :lol The company i worked for before Ritz bought us, paid very well, ive stuck with it because I love photography..

Ive been in the business for 11 years and its fun to live vicariously through other people...Of course we also sell cameras and the discounts are nice :grin But
all in all id rather be doing photography for a living or own a bookstore :peace

First off, good luck to, well, everybody who needs it. And since I don't see a good luck smiley, but really feel the need to use a smiley I've never used before, here: :party Good Luck!

Personally, I see Willow as a Computer Science professor. Which means I forsee lots and lots of UC Sunnydale boys with a great big frustrated crush on their hot, hot teacher and her hot, hot wife. And I think Tara might own a great old used bookstore - one of the ones you feel like you could spend days in, just wandering around and looking at stuff. Maybe she reads Tarot cards in the back room.

Now me, I have no real job since I'm just a student, but I like it that way. Although I guess I'm technically a research assistant for one of my professors this summer.

A most appropriate thread for my day yesterday. Was going to see [b:1df0157f2e]Indigo Girls[/b:1df0157f2e] last night, and I thought the working day would never end! It did, and I got to see my Girls (my other Girls that is!) and had a wonderful time.

Willow would definitely have a computer related job. I've seen a few fics with Tara as either a social worker or a teacher, and that seems credible to me.

Hi all.

*waves* New here....

Like a few said...I can really see Tara as a social worker. Given the family problems she had to overcome, I think her insight would really be able to help those around her. And...as she's always been the "healer" and the "comforter", I can really see her fitting in this kind of job.

As for Willow. I really don't know. In the past, I would have said something to do with software/hacking/ect...But, more recently in the show, we haven't really seen Willow be "compter girl". So...I'm floundering...

Congrats to whoever got the job! *heh* I loathe and despise job hunting. Right now, I'm a college student. And...I teach private lessons to little kiddos.

Anyhoo. :)
