It's a Bionic Monday MKF

Postby mollyig » Mon Aug 19, 2002 4:56 am

My it's quiet here today, and I'm trying to dodge work, so I said to myself - self, you should start a daily thread!

There was a thread a while back about Female TV characters who were role models to us wee Kitties when we were kids, and mine was The Bionic Woman. I read recently that its supposed to be remade, but haven't heard who is to star etc.

Anyway, question of the day, which tv characters would our girls have identified with most?

Hmmmm...

I like to think Cagney and Lacey, as well as maybe Counselor Troi on ST:TNG. Evidently Willow watched Xena, and I kinda think she identified with Gabrielle (ah foreshadowing).

And I like to believe Tara was a secret fan of [i:2ce1fe86c3]Dark Shadows[/i:2ce1fe86c3] and had feelings of sympathy for Angelique.

I'm thinking probably Wonder Woman...or even Charlie's Angels (those girls kicked ass, even when they were chasing down thugs in high heel shoes :grin )

Willow's parents didn't seem to be around very much and when they were around they were probably pretty self-absorbed, so I'm assuming Willow was able to watch whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. As a little kid and in re-runs, I think Willow would totally "get" Laura Holt from Remington Steele.

I see Tara's family being home every night and the father being the supreme ruler of what shows the family was allowed to watch so. . . lots of pseudo-reality cop chasing type shows or PAX programming. Not very Tara-friendly. So mostly I see Tara just sighing and going up to her room to re-read "The Mists of Avalon" for 999th time.

I do think that as teenagers they both would have the same favorite TV character/obsession: Dana Scully. I know this is cheating, but I think they would totally groove on Buffy from seasons 1-3.

And in our heart of hearts we all know that somehow both girls managed to watch Avengers re-runs, burning indelible images of a black leather clad Mrs. Peel deeply into their little psyches . . . ;)

I would bet that Willow watched The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man, without ever quite realising why she liked Jamie Summers better than Steve Austin. :)

I loved the Bionic Woman so much. She was my absolute favorite and well kinda sexy, mind you I was a kid then but I had a big crush. I also enjoyed Wonder Woman a lot. I really wish they would remake the Bionic Woman. Gosh I really do. And of course I was a huge Charlie's Angels fan, Sabrina.. sigh.

Have a lovely day kitties, it's overcast here in LA, we even had some drizzle.. weird!

relativegirl, wow Laura Holt, I haven't thought of her in years. Thanks for that. She was another of my little obsessions.

And Xita, you mentioned another - Sabrina. Kate Jackson!!

Oh me too Autumn, me too. In spades and still to this day.

I didn't mean to suggest that obsessing about Scully was in anyway a teen thing at all. I was just noting that Willow and Tara, unlike RelativeGirl (and apparently Autumn) would have been teenagers when Dana Scully first graced our tv screens.

So like before we few, we crazy few Bronco fans pull the Aly on TV thread wildly off topic I'll be a good little kitty and answer a few questions here from the Big IT. [quote:4e1f925920][b:4e1f925920][i:4e1f925920]Quote:[/i:4e1f925920][/b:4e1f925920]
Sorry Aly, but I'm going to be looking for Autumn on top...er, in the upper levels of Mile High at Invesco tonight on MNF. Was that the west side of the stadium you said, Autumn? And oh happy day, I'll be able to pull my old Shannon Sharpe jersey out of the closet once again!
[/quote:4e1f925920] West side section 504, so I'm about right at the goal line 6 rows up. I'm [i:4e1f925920] sure[/i:4e1f925920] now given that information you will have no trouble picking me out of the rest of the 76,125 people. ;)

And yeah, I cannot tell you how glad I am to be seeing Shannon in his Bronco Blues again tonight. Thank GOD we got him back with TD stepping out. We're really going to need his leadership this year. And hello, the man is funny. :)

And [b:4e1f925920] RelativeGirl[/b:4e1f925920] you got that right. I'm fast approaching 40 so my Scully fixation was an um er [i:4e1f925920] mature[/i:4e1f925920] crush. ;)

For me, it was Xena.

For Tara it was Sheera. Willow seems like the wonder woman type though.

i was a total punky brewster person. still am.
and is it too resembling punny, or me to think peraps wil watched Bewitched on Nick at Nite? cuz really, i didnt think of how not funny that statement is until right after i thought it, but seriously, i have this image in my head.... 'eh, i betcha she was a rainbow brite fan, back in the day.
Tara, i'm bettin was allowed to watch no tv whatsoever, maybe an hour a week, so who knows what got squeezed in. but she had better things to do like go learn about insect reflections with her mom, so, yeah, definitely more entertaining than tv.
wow i never thought i'd suggest something was more entertaining than tv.... momentous.
meanwhile in a very "plea for help PS-ish" type way (no such thing as OT cuz it's the daily thread, right? i hope) are there any kittens who're denver based who'd be willing to email me and offer assistance? i dont mean assistance in denver, and i mean assistance pertaining to denver....i'm getting all muddled. words, not the best medium for me at the moment. anyway, anybody? i'd appreciate it, and can offer eternal gratitude...
thanks.
peace out.

Yep, they are supposed to be remaking the Bionic Woman. I think I'm really not all that excited about it, though, honestly. There's something about the repeated assurances that she'll be tall, blonde, and blue-eyed that's really bothering me.

Whatever, here's a link to a story at ign: filmforce.ign.com/article...002p1.html

God forbid that the new Bionic Woman actually look like most women.

I don't know. Maybe I've gotten in the habit of being outraged by television, and I'm totally overreacting. Or I may be underreacting. Bluh.

Hope everyone has had a better day than I have. :mad

I am surprised, considering the thread title, that it took this long for the song "Manic Monday" to get stuck in my head.

I love remakes, it's fun to see how crappy they are. I don't think I remember the original very well, though.

Aww. *hugs for maudmac, gives her some Durian scented pie to go with her pie scented cleaner* Bad days suck.

:shock

*thinks*

Okay, okay, I'll accept a durian-scented pie as long as navel oranges and monstera deliciosas are kept [i:414d4e70cd] far[/i:414d4e70cd] away.

Don't make me use a pukey emoticon!
