DO NOT POST - BACKUP IN PROGRESS

Its a post-primary Wednesday, MKF

Postby Rosenberg » Wed Aug 07, 2002 2:11 am

Well, I dont see a daily thread yet, so Ill be brave and start one.

The state of Michigan is finally going to have its first female candidate for governor. Jennifer Granholm, the current Democratic Attorney General will be pitted against the current Republican Lieutenant Governor in the November general election. Well see if the citizens of Michigan are progressive enough to accept a female candidate as governor and if gender will be an issue in the campaign.

Which brings up the taboo topic for today politics. Do you think Willow and Tara have any particular interest in politics? Would they feel more strongly affiliated towards one political party over another and what issues would they feel strongly about when it comes time to vote?

Don't know much about Merkin politics, but I'd say Tara would vote for an individual rather than the party they represent. She relies on her instinct when it comes to people, and I imagine it rarely lets her down. Willow would have a system worked out, either with different colored pens or a computer programme or something.

I'm a tad hyper today, as I get to see my beloved Indigo Girls in concert tomorrow night. Except a load of my nasty so-called friends keep emailing and ringing me telling me the concert has been cancelled - that's really not nice!

I think Willow is a poltical aware person. I think I remember a scene where she talks about the responsibilty of voting.. but I just can't remembere when and why and with whom, damn.

So, yeah, I believe Willow is aware of social issues and responsibilities and I'm pretty sure she has a clear opinion towards things political.

For Tara, I'm not sure, I think she is more interested in the individual person and their needs than to be involved in the political debate around that. I could picture Tara working for some welfare organisation just for the sake of helping, not for the political statement.

As for political parties, uhm.. I'm not all to familiar with the US-American system, but if they were German I'd think they'd probably vote the Green Party.

Politics? But, it's so early in the morning!
Yes, I can totally see Willow coming up with a spread sheet or some other computer program to compare and contrast candidates and Tara thinking she is competely wacky - but cute, of course - for doing so.
I think Tara would probably just go with her first instinct. She seems very good at reading people.

Speaking of politics, did anyone watch the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on Sunday? Didja hear how Tony Blair got booed? Almost fell off my chair laughing. Ah Manchester, how I love thee...

oh yes tommo - that was truly a moment to treasure. I was watching it with fond memories of the Olympics, and waiting for Kylie to appear, scantily clad and riding on a giant surfboard. But this was Manchester after all, so we had to settle for Will Young in the rain (and a silly hat)!

Well, for the most part American Political Parties tend to be fairly centrist, each leaning (generally) in one direction or the other. For the past generation, the Radical Right Wing has gained a big toehold on the grass-roots level, but as their favorites (Pat Buchanan, for example) keep getting overwhelmingly rejected that's changing (most Americans are pretty moderate, of that I'm convinced). So Tara I'm sure would vote and vote for the individual. Willow, on the other hand, tends to get more swept away and might vote purely on the basis of Party, possibly a Third Party like the Greens.

Over at TV Guide, they have a pic of Aly and Alexis at the Teen Choice Awards.

Also found this at TV Guide...

TOUGH CELL: Don't hold your breath for that in-the-works Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series. According to Buffy brainchild Joss Whedon, the spinoff's prospects remain sketchy. "Every day it changes," he tells TV Guide Online. "Today, it's not so good." What's the problem? "I can't really go into it, but it's all about contracts and finding a home for it and financing. A lot of really boring stuff."

Tony Blah getting booed at the Commonwealth Games? No, Ruth, I'm sure you must be mistaken. He's the people's Prime Minister :)

Anyway, just a drive-by posting to say...hey, it's my birthday!

I have reached the ripe old age of 28. That big 3-0 just keeps creeping closer.

So anyway, feel free, Kittens, to bombard me with the obligatory birthday salutations.

I need to feel that Kitten love coming off you in waves ;)

I'll be back to inspect your efforts later when I am less sober.

Hah hah, my jokes come right from uhm.. deadville.

We disucssed this during the presidental election (remember, it aired during the showing of "Family" so I missed most of it).

We tried to decide who was what.. I think my votes were

Willow: Very liberal(see Pangs), Jewish, but with that geek love that would make me think Gore.
Tara: As above, but if she isnt a Green, no one is.
Anya: Loves Money, hates foriengers. Republican (the actress is a major republican too)
Xander: Listens to arguments from Anya and Willow. Votes for John Sheridan..
Buffy:Listens to argument from Anya and Willow..I think listens to Willow.
Riley:Republican. Any doubt?
Joyce:Single mom with art degree.. Gore

Giles: can't vote, but seems like he was a SDP in his "ripper days"

And Aly only looks mildly intoxicated here... which must be a good thing at the Teen Choice Awards (I know I would be)

Thanks for the heads up Brian

Aw, Happy Birthday Em. I'd do fancy fonts and scrolling and all but as you know, that's not my forte. I shall leave it up to the curry to congratulate you. ;)

And Aly's hair is really long. And wavy. And um...yeah. She's still really hot. God, is it wrong of me to say that?

As for Will Young in a silly hat, that was a flat cap. All that was missing were his whippets and clogs and then he'd have walked straight out of a Lowry picture. Bless.

Happy birthday, Emma! :bounce :rollin :bounce

Just for you, my first use of emoticons other than a smiley or big grinny face here!

edited because while I was slowly typing, Ruth beat me to being first. Oh well.

And I should not add to the political discussion, goodness knows I've brought it up too many times. :shy

Oh man yeah, thanks Brian. I needed a bit of good news. I imagine something like rape and murder should not be associated with children's shows. Something like that.

Oh and Willow had that interest towards the native americans. I think both of them would be very concerned about the environment and hello, gay rights :)

Happy Birthday Emma!

Don't be too scared of the big 30, it's not half bad :p Of course you are still 2 years away , so be glad :grin

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. My 20s [b:0760beba4e] sucked[/b:0760beba4e]. Being a 30something has been much, much better. Don't fear the big 3-0.

And Happy Birthday Emma! :bounce :bounce :bounce

I'm still in waiting mode to hear back from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. There's a position open right now for a job writing articles, presentations, documentary scripts and etc. for the Mars exploration program. Hey, if I've got to go back to a day job, I want one that's going to be cool and interesting and something I actually want to do for a change. Plus think of all the access to research resources I'll have for writing science fiction stories!

Unfortunately, they're being really slow about dealing with my application. At least I got an email from them yesterday saying they hadn't forgotten me, though. That's a start.

Have a great day, everybody! :grin

Thanks for the birthday wishes guys!

I was very glad for them after coming back from the Aston Villa match because we lost to Lille.

And it rained. Hard. And there was thunder. And lightning. And all of those things were infinitely more exciting than what was going on out on the pitch.

Well, until the fighting started and one of their guys got sent off - that was fun.

And when, once we'd gone two-nil down, the crowd decided we had no chance of winning so changed tack to baiting the French fans with chants of "Senegal! Senegal! Senegal!"

Fine and honourable game, footie. Oh, and I got a birthday message from my mum and dad over the tannoy at half-time. That was cool.

But all the talk of food is making me hungry - Ruth, you've gone and mentioned the curry, damn you. It's only Wednesday, too long to wait!

Zahir, much chocolate has been consumed, including a nice slab of chocolate birthday cake, which I'm now washing down with a bottle of wine.

Thanks again, guys, and thanks Elianna for trying out your bouncy green smileys on me - I do love them so :)

Ooooh who mentioned curry? Now I'm hungry and i don't think curry is a breakfast food.

Anyways, Happy Birthday Emma! :bounce

I usually don't post in the daily thread (I barely post at all come to think of it), but I just had to mention that I am now the proud first-time aunt to the cutest little girl the world has ever seen. My eldest sister just had my family's first grand-child last night by c-section and we're all very exciting about the whole thing :grin

Have a great day everybody :-)

Congratulations, Auntie Scoobiedoo! That's great.

I love babies. And I love being an aunt. You get to be the cool one they come to when their parents have annoyed them.

And you can buy them waterpistols for their birthdays. That always gets a good reaction :)

Edited to add: You don't think curry is a breakfast food? Flipping 'eck, it's the best. Cold leftovers from the night before. Yum.

At least I didn't have to see how dreadful they were, I got the goalflashes by text on my mobile phone, and that was bad enough!

Midfielders? Like Matt Holland? Oh what a happy Molly I'd be if he joined the Villains. I know Taylor is only making enquiries, but a girl has to hope!
