It's the Willow-Babble Weekend!

Postby Tulipp » Sat Aug 03, 2002 12:37 am

Good morning, Kittens. It's 6:32 a.m. East Coast time, so I guess that means I can start a daily thread.

The question burning in my mind lately is this:

How much does Willow [i:af127abe9f] really[/i:af127abe9f] babble?

The fact that she babbles is definitely a convention of the fanfic on Pens, and it's something that many people--myself included--consider to be a defining part of her character.

But how much and when did she babble on the show? Are there times when she doesn't babble? Are there certain topics that are more babble-icious than others?

I, at least, really want to know. Have a good weekend, all.

um...it's funny, but they seem to have slipped my mind. i remember her once babbling but the only thing i remember her saying was 'shutting up, now'. she babbles when she's nervous, in my opinion. that's when i've noticed it. she babbled a little when she cought xander and cordelia kissing in the library.... i can't believe i've forgotten the rest.

this whole post was just a big load of babble on my part anyway. sorry 'bout that ;)

Funny, now that you ask, all I can think of are the times she [i:7dc665301f] doesn't[/i:7dc665301f] babble: "if you're not with me 110%, then get the HELL out of my library!" When she stands up to Faith in Choices. When she comes out to Buffy in NMR. The wordless reconciliation with Tara in Entropy. Willow's always strong when necessary, despite her protests:

"You're my big gun, Will."
Oh, not a gun. I was never a gun. Maybe a cudgel. Or a pointy stick."

A better question might be, what on earth are you doing up at 6:30 AM on a Saturday?!

And in other news, I'm up a little earlier than usual because I just had my first Amber dream (a long one) and it's got me wigged. Not that I'm complaining.

hee hee, ruby, that's exactly what happened to me (not the dream, the willowspeech) the faith thing just stuck in my mind and i couldn't get it out. and i could pretend i was also up at 6.30 to reply, but alas, it was about 12, and i had just got up. hense the non-sense-making post. and i had a dream about old ladies making cheese in an old factory using machetes and one mixing bowl.......as you do....;)

For example when she is excited ;)

I really enjoy this Willow-Babble everytime I hear it, lol, it's from Freshmen.. and Buffy and Willow talk about college, hee

[quote:f5c5791660][b:f5c5791660][i:f5c5791660]Quote:[/i:f5c5791660][/b:f5c5791660]
Willow: I'm being annoying, aren't I?

Buffy: No, it's nice that you're excited.

Willow: It's just in High School, knowledge was pretty much frowned upon. You really had to work to learn anything. But here, the energy, the collective intelligence, it's like this force, this penetrating force, and I can just feel my mind opening up--you know?--and letting this place thrust into and spurt knowledge into... That sentence ended up in a different place than it started out in.

it does seem like she babbles when she is excited or nervous, but its not like a full on babble. some the ones i've enjoyed are the one from the Freshman, in Revelations when she and Buffy are looking for that demon and she is trying to tell Buffy about her and Xander, and Doomed when she is telling Buffy about the dead guy and ends up saying that Percy called her a nerd.

Here's another bit of babble from 'Phases'.

Oz: Willow! What are you doing?

Willow: I had this whole thing worked out. And I had it written down, uh, but then it didn't make any sense when I was reading it back.

Oz: Willow, this is not a very good time.

Willow: I mean, what am I supposed to think? First, you buy me popcorn and then you're all glad that I didn't get bit. And you put the tag back in my shirt. But I guess none of that means anything because instead of looking up names with me, here you are all alone in your house doing nothing by yourself.

Oz: Willow, we'll talk about this tomorrow. I promise.

Willow: No, damn it! We'll talk about this now! Buffy told me that sometimes what a girl makes has to be the first move and now that I'm saying this, I'm starting to think that the written version sounded pretty good, but you know what I mean.
[/quote:28146a641e]
And here's some non-babble from 'The Initiative'
[quote:28146a641e][b:28146a641e][i:28146a641e]Quote:[/i:28146a641e][/b:28146a641e]
Willow : Then talk. Keep eye contact. Funny is good, but don't be glib. And remember, if you hurt her, I will beat you to death with a shovel. A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend. Have fun.
[/quote:28146a641e]

Edited to add: Oh - I just remembered another babble in 'Who Are You' [quote:28146a641e][b:28146a641e][i:28146a641e]Quote:[/i:28146a641e][/b:28146a641e]
Willow: Tara, it's not like I don't want my friends to know you. It's just... well, Buffy's like my best friend, and she's really special. And there's this whole bunch of us, and we sort of have this group thing that revolves round the slaying, and-and I, I really want you to meet them. But I kind of like having something that's just, you know, mine. And I, I usually don't se so many words to say stuff that little, but do you get that at all?
[/quote:28146a641e] And I'm done.

hehheh it's funny. i was just criticized (mm thats not the right word) by some gal pals for being sooo willow-minded lately i had picked up willow-babble and was distinctly falling into her speech patterns....and now this topic. so fun!
and i'd say, she babbles whenever it's not particularly consistant of the mood to be brief. otherwise, words away!
though of course last season was different, with her all, never in her right mind, thusly was quite less babble filled....but let's not think about that.
i'd say she babbles when she's comfortable, because of who she's around, not neccessarily because of the state of the world.

peace.

Saw [i:82a7e9a970] Signs[/i:82a7e9a970] today. Cherry Jones is in it and has a pretty good part. It's nice to see her getting a meaty role in something that is considered a big summer movie. It seems you actually can be an out actress and get good work. Someone send Jodie the memo.

I'm planning to go and see Signs tomorrow, hopefully it is good :) I am not sure Willow babbles in the show as much as she does in fanfic, but I love the Willowbable whenever it happens.

I liked it Puff, but I really like that director. It was funny, scary, and touching with good performances. If you like (or I should say liked in the good old days) X-Filesish stuff, you'll probably enjoy it.

Lindy you used my favourite Willowbabble!

I have moments of manic babbling when I'm excited about something, and I hop from one subject to the next. It happens when I'm really tired too, because then I'm a bit hyper.

A sunny Sunday morning here in Ireland, I may go for a cycle later on if the weather stays fine, but it probably won't!

First, welcome back, Elianna. Hope you had a good trip! :)

As for Willow-babbles -

IWMTLY: It's an unusual name. There's hardly any except ... Warren Beatty and, you know, President Harding. It-it's probably not either of them. Followed by, I agree. I'm not sure this is a code red. Hey, is there a code pink? We need more codes.

I always like that last one because of the little smile Tara gives Willow when she says it. :love

actually, cherry jones has been out and doing good work for eons. and it's somewhat dissappointing to see her in a big summer blockbuster type movie. she's a fantastik actor and it's kinda below her caliber, though shyalaman is an amazingly brilliant dude, so this particular film is groovy to have her in. but in general, i'm wary of seeing her in big hollywood flicks. she was by far the best actress on broadway in the 90s, i'd kinda rather see her continue to be as such. she's sooooo good. i dont want to see her ending up in big budget semi-good films just because she can....

I don't even know why Cherry Jones is; I'll have to look up her stuff now.

On another note, I love the babble examples that people came up with. I always think of Willow saying that she doesn't use so many words to say what she means, when she often does.

Cherry Jones is awesome and I, for one, am glad to see her career going so well. I didn't know she was going to be in [i:8484b2a43f] Signs.[/i:8484b2a43f] I had intended to see it anyway, but will now definitely go.

I worked for a teen group in NYC called "Hell's Kitchen's Aids Project." We asked her to attend our first fundraiser and she gladly joined us. This was right after she won her Tony Award. She was so cool. She rode to the function on her bicycle and sat on the floor in the middle of the room to watch the performances. She's really down to earth.

Not sure whether this qualifies as a babble as it's rather short, but it sure is cute:

It's about Adam getting vampires and demons to work together.

Tara: So he's, um, bridging the gap between the races?

Willow: Huh. Like Martin Luther King. But probably a lot less eloquent and with the evil so, different than Martin Luther King. Let's move on.

Dont forget willow's first babble in WttHM

Willow: Yeah, he (Giles) just started. He was a curator at some British museum,
or, or The British Museum, I'm not sure. But he knows everything, and he
brought all these historical volumes and biographies, and am I the
single dullest person alive?

i didnt mean to insinuate that [i:53de499e0a] signs]/i] is no good, i just meant i'm wary of her entering into the genre of films she's been doing lately, because it makes me worried. not that she's in fluff stuff yet, but big money films, whether of good quality or not, lead to other big money films. and it makes me nervous.
peace.
