New BTVS computer game on Xbox thread

Postby Sarah Bennett » Thu Aug 01, 2002 1:33 am

(I searched for a thread on this, but didn't find one)

There is a big new BTVS game coming out (or already out) on the Xbox. If I haven't lucked out carefully assembling this new topic only for it to be closed (:shy ), then here's a link to some info and pics about the game :) I think it's [b:69e4c41d80] only[/b:69e4c41d80] for the Xbox. The game is apparently very realistic looking, and features real voice acting from all of the actual cast members! - except Sarah Michelle Gellar (:\ ). One review I read said it was just like a lost season 3 episode.

Being based around Season 3 means no Tara. But I guess Willow could be in the game somewhere. Has anyone played it yet? Or will anyone be buying it?
It also got me thinking - a lot of people are having fun with Sims Willow & Tara, and RPG. It never fails to amaze me how creative fans are. But I wonder when we might see the first lesbian characters in a mainstream computer game narrative? Maybe in the year 3134? :( (the year lesbians get their own planet)

How cool would it be to have a realistic looking Buffy computer game like this, where you can actually control all the characters and do whatever you liked? :)

cya,
Sarah.

I just finished playing GTA 3. I used a little cheat from the internet to make my character female and of course this didn't stop me from picking up those hoo.... ahem scantily clad women walking around everywhere at night :smokin This game is so evil, I just love it :grin

I know there are guides on the internet on how to enable same-sex-romances in Baldur's Gate 2 and there are probably some for other games, too.

I don't remember whether it was always possible in The Sims though.

I think www.ea.com/eagames/official/buffy/home.jsp is the official site for the game. I just have a Dreamcast, no Xbox, so I probably won't be buying it, anyhow. But I have been looking at the previews. The graphics and motion capture look really nice (wow, I do have geek infested roots), but it seems to be only played from Buffy's POV, which for me would be just no fun. If you could switch and play Willow (or just about anyone except Buffy) then I might be into it. Actually, if you could play Willow, I might just think about kidnapping a friend's Xbox and getting the game. But either way there's no Tara, which is :( .

Oh, and kukalaka - if you ever run across a cheat to enable same-sex relationships in Neverwinter Nights, I want it. Aribeth is [i:a91d4f796d] hot[/i:a91d4f796d]. :grin

My little brother was so excited about this game, he said he would save his allowance just to get an Xbox to play it.

That was, of course, before Tara died and he decided to boycott all things Buffy.

My brother was going to buy it but when it only came out on xbox he was quite annoyed.

I hate games that aren't multi-platform. I play PS2 and PC games. I too adore GTA3, and also use the cheat to change skins - heh!

i have a friend who wanted ME to get an xbox so we could play it, and the online store i was looking at said the release date got pushed back from july to aug, but this friend of mine claims she's seen it in a store already, so i'm not sure whether it's out or not.....and i'm a person with a ps2. it IS annoying that its only on xbox because other than this game, all the xbox stuff is crap. and the xbox itself aint all its cracked up to be. but oh well.....i anticipate it's price plummetting abruptly in the not tooo far future, so whenever that happens i'll get one, and the buffy game, and thatll be it. yay! frivolous spending by the poor!
peace out.

Does anyone have ANY info about when we might be seeing this game in Australia? We saw a preview at the Nick Brendon con earlier in the year but haven't heard anything since. I know that the US shipping date is apparently August 19, but I can't find any mention of an Oz release. Help?

The game in the Uk is set for release September 13th (according to Game's website), is that a Friday the 13th by any chance? It's to go head to head with Resident Evil coming out for the Game Cube.
But in the Buffy one you get to stake the hell out of Spike. Now there's a reason to buy it! Can't think of a character I'd like to dust more!

Oooh! I might have to buy an Xbox so I can play this game! (and stake spike!) Decisions, decisions - electricity bill or Xbox? Oh wait! I need the electricity. So phone bill - no wait! Must have access to Kitties! So I guess its gonna be the water bill! Yay no more leaky pipes!

Anyone know a cheap place to get an Xbox?

For people in the UK...

I checked my local Game today. They have it. It's on general release tomorrow - yes Friday the 13th.

I believe the story was written or part written by Christopher Golden and is meant to fit nicely somewhere in season 3. So no Tara. Doh! They promote it as an original story.

The reviews I've read said the graphics are quite good, although Willow is not portrayed in the most flattering light.

As a beat-em-up with a story apparently it can get a bit samey after a while and the degree of control you have over Buffy's fighting is a little random. It's hard to repeat the same complex kick ass move more than once. Apparently.

I am definitely getting it though :)

Jeepers! I just bought the game and played it last night. I keep expecting the little animated Willow to look down at her ample cleavage and go "Gosh, look at those!"

So has anyone played this yet? I have an Xbox, but was thinking of selling it so I could get a proper DVD player. These rumours that the Xbox scratches DVDs seem to be true - one of my Buffy DVDs has a huge scratch in it now (on the disk with "Who Are You?" (flaming O ep) and New Moon Rising, to boot, grr...)

But I might keep my Xbox if some decent games ever come out...

The game was playable at this years E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in L.A. I played it for a total of three hours over the three day event. It's awesome! It is an X-Box only title. It is supposed to be like a "lost season 3" episode, and no there is no Tara subsiquently. However, Willow is in the game and you do get to interact a small bit with her. The game is rediculously addictive and I got to make good friends with one of the designers that was at the kiosque it was set up in (she was bummed there was no Tara, too! Yay!)

You can use virually anything in the game as a weapon to kill vamps, which is one of my favorite parts of the game! You can throw them onto tables that have been overturned in fights and impale them on the legs, you can break a shovel while hitting someone with it and then use the pointy end to slay them, you can even use pool cues in the Bronze as stakes! It's way to fun. I'm actually considering getting an X-Box just for it! And I don't even have that kind of money! Plus, fire and sunlight come into play as ways to off your enemys! Man, it's great. :grin

Plus it's not just a Buffy game, it's a really well made platformer, so even my non-Buffy-lovin' friends loved it!

The couple of reviews I read on the game both said Willow looked terrible and nothing like she should. True?

My girlfriend and I bought an XBox especially for the BtVS game, and I would have to say that I'm pleased. The game is pretty fun...not too hard, but not a cakewalk either. The funniest part to me is when Buffy starts talking smack to the bad guys...too funny. If I'm not mistaken everybody except for SMG added their voices. That's the way it sounds, anyway. The graphics are good, too. Any SMG fans will be ecstatic...Buffy's ass is very well designed, and you pretty much have to stare at it throughout the whole game. Unfortunately, the same can not be said for Willow. Whoever designed her did an awful job with her coloring. I guess Buffy's ass is a higher priority than Willow's face...ick. All in all, I say go and get it...what other games have holy water super soakers as a weapon, and where else can you punt a over-sized demonic spider?

Demonic spider? Eek...I haven't gotten that far into it yet. Spike's kidnapped Willow...I'm dealing with those scary vamp dogs that make me jump everytime I see them. Loving the game, though I cringe when Buffy says "slay-ground"...Blah. I bought an Xbox to get the game. Now I'll have something to do when I'm broke later. :)

Yep, I bought my gf an X-Box just for this game, and we can't stop playing it. SO addictive. Buffy's quips are really cool.

I wish they'd made it multi player so you could take different scooby characters, but I guess they figured that everyone would take Buffy anyway so what's the point? I'm currently trying to find all the different coloured crystals to give to Willow so she can do the spell that enhances my Slayer power :) Very neat.

This is a great game if you like your games a little 'darker' but really don't want to enter the realms of "Resident Evil". Although, in some places, 'dark' is the problem, I have had to lighten the screen so many times I may end up just killing the vampires by bright lighting!! The graphics are wonderful, although to echo everyone, Willow looks awful! The Master looks amazing though! Now the X-Box has been lowered in price considerably here in the UK, this is a game to get to play Slayer. (But I am so waiting for Mario Sunshine, now that has to be a brighter game to see!)

This thread is giving me notions of buying an x box. That's a bad thing. I'm already obsessed with the sims on my laptop and about 4 or 5 ps2 games. Not to mention the waste of buying the x box for just one game. But I'm famously weak when it comes to buying gadgets so it might happen.

Thanks for the reviews everyone - and for the tempting thoughts [img:55e5a8a9da]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/winkgreen.gif[/img:55e5a8a9da]

I'm wasn't an X-Box fan until E3, but if you want to buy an X-Box, get Buffy (of course) but also look into Toejam & Earl, Blinxx, the new Shenmue and maybe Britney's Dance Beat (if you like rhythm games)! And I agree. Willow looks kindda goofy.

This game would work like all merchandising Sheridan. ME probably got some money for licensing the project, but after that I doubt it. I wouldn't think you'd be putting any more money in Joss's pockets from buying this game.

Hey, as far as I heard there were no plans to let any other company in on Buffy action, that the game would stay strictly X-Box. But hey, wouldn't be the first time weird things have happened.

As for how Willow looks, she's probably the least well rendered of any of the characters. Cordelia looks awesome, as does Buffy herself and Giles, even Spike. Willow has some cool lines (and I'm just getting to the part where she starts spellcasting with the little gems I bring her :) ) and huge boobs.
