OK, I'm taking a break from painting my new massage therapy office and getting bugged by Tulipp to start this thread. :kiss The office is dark blue with silver stars painted everywhere. Twilight in the Garden is it's theme. So, we've seen that Tara especially has some wild taste in room decor, what about Kittens? What are some of your craziest/best decorating ideas? How would Willow and Tara decorate their own house? Trading Spaces/Changing Rooms look out! It's a Kitten Designed Monday!!! WHOO&HOO!!!!!!!

Trom, what are you talking about? We haven't even chatted...oh. Um.

Okay, so my house is mostly still unpainted, but after living with white walls my whole life, I went color crazy in the dining room. The walls are deep red, the shelf and dish cabinets are pale green, and the windowseat pillows and curtains are violet.

Sounds kind of weird in print. But it looks goooooood.

Oh, but the main decorating colors at my house are orange and black. Cat hair.

Well, this is such a fun little thread. What a way to indulge my inner Libran (as well as the gay man that seems to be tromping about my brain...many people think I am far too obsessed with furniture and clothes shopping to be lesbian :lol )

Unfortunately my own room/office is stuck with hideous beige walls and totally nauseating carpet colours (we rent this place and do NOT own it, thank the gods) so I've a couple deep moss & black coloured hanging Celtic tapestries about. One on the ceiling and one on the wall. There's a futon in the room as well that has midnight blue Adobe-style pillows and a throw on it. I know it's a horrifying mish-mash but it's the best I could do to even make the room habitable. The house is almost 50 yrs old and really needs to be reduced to scrap. The rest of the house is rather uniform though....we've get this neo-Southwest theme going on replete with Acoma and Jemez Pueblo pottery and Southwest paintings from Santa Fe artists.

If Tara is doing the decorating, I can see her and Willow doing a Southwest theme with soft colours, very soothing pastels with maybe some tribal masks, sculptures and spiritual items. If it's Willow doing the decorating, I can see some very sleek, minimalist IKEA like furniture in the house. Very techno looking to suit her IT interests. Not too cold, just enough to make it look very post-modern.

*wistful smile* You know you're anal when you've actually thought out how Willow and Tara would decorate their house. *deep sigh* Oh well, off to the OCD clinic *skips happily through her pink and white world with Prozac and Valium coloured skies*

Hee hee hee! Kieli, you can always bring a smile to my lips!

I tend to do my place with woods, and then stick up a few posters (like the one for [i:ef3ba94d84]Bram Stoker's Dracula[/i:ef3ba94d84]) and a few pieces of art that touch me for some reason. My fiancee, on the other hand, has loads of African art, as well as Gaugin prints.

Whatever Willow and Tara do with their digs, I'm sure it would be comfortable as well as whimsically charming. Plus there'd be a computer. And a big, big bed.

Zah, you crack me up! You know, woods are an excellent choice though, especially with African art (well, depending on the shade of the wood.....dark chestnut, cherry mahogany, oak.....I love pine but it might be too light for your fiancee's art collection) and the Gaugin prints (especially if you got the prints matted and framed in some really deep colours like brick red, forest green or some other somber colour like that with dark frames). Holy Jumpin' Baldheaded Jesus, I sound like Christopher Lowell!! :shock (well not quite like him...the man is a flaming genius :grin emphasis on the flaming).

Glad to give you a chuckle, Zah.

Okay, so I'm actually in the process of redoing my room. The carpet is a lovely leaf green and nice and thick and comfy too. My walls are a sunshine yellow and she ceiling is being painted with sky blue and white to look just like the sky on a nice summers day. I have faeries and butterflies everywhere plants. I have so many plants all around my room it's crazy. It looks like a room meets greenhouse but I love it. My room rocks and I love to decorate. I'd redo every room in the house if my family would let me... Trading Spaces look out Spice is on a roll! :grin

Ooooh, I LIKE this thread!

As far as decorating goes, I tend to think not in terms of style (e.g. Southwest, Japanese, classic, modern) but in terms of color. Every room in my apartment has a different color as the focus. The living room is blue, the kitchen/dining room is green, my bedroom is yellow, and the bathroom is pink. I can't actually paint the walls since I'm renting, so I just decorate using posters/pictures/knick-knacks of that color. I'm really into Van Gogh, so a lot of his paintings are scattered here and there.

And [b:ffb2854815] Tulipp[/b:ffb2854815], I can [i:ffb2854815] totally[/i:ffb2854815] identify with the orange and black thing! My two cats are orange and gray, and I swear they shed enough fur in one week to make a whole new cat.

I get teased by people about my choice of colours, because I always pick out the brightest things.

My room is turquoise - very definitely not just plain old blue as some have suggested - with a few furnishings in lime green and a rather lurid shade of orange :grin

But my most favourite thing is a mirror made out of a BMX tyre that hangs above my bed. Now that is cool. :)

I'm a pretty plain decorator, really - big IKEA fan! - so I don't know how much I can contribute to this...

Still, there's something to be said for clean lines, muted colours and unity of dsign. That's all nice and easy on the eyes.

And nobody's ever raised a ruckus about plain eggshell walls, right? Didn't think so. :p

My "style" of decorating is:

(a) to have about 200 pictures of penguins and an Indigo Girls poster on my walls, with maybe 100 penguins of varying size dotted around the room.

(b) using every inch of available space for the storage of music and books (the finer things in life!)

Right, see, you all are just contributing to the vision we Americans have of you anyway.

You can't leave English kittens alone for a minute. They flirt with each other AND with the American kittens.

And cultural divide or not, I'm going with tire as the correct spelling of the thing that's made into a mirror that's NOT, if I understand correctly, hanging on your ceiling.

Juli, yes, you understand correctly. The [b:376668c44f] tyre[/b:376668c44f] is [b:376668c44f] not[/b:376668c44f] hanging on my ceiling, it is in fact attached to the [b:376668c44f] wall[/b:376668c44f].

Clear now?

And as for the flirting, well we wouldn't want to let our standards slip now. Not with this "vision" you seem to have conjured about English kittens. :)

i always seem to be the one interupting the flirting and innuendo to pop in my little bit about whatever the question might be.

Right, so decorating.

My apartment is a studio (one room with a seperate kitchen) and i rent, so no painting of the walls for me, they're kinda creamy color. I have a giant oriental rug, deep red colors, in the middle of my room, a matchingish red desk from IKEA, a cool reddish painting i bought in china on my wall, some batik wall hangings that my mom bought in india when she was a stewardess for pan am, some iranian paintings that my mom bought in Tehran, plus a cool carving i bought in thailand and my collection of 150 keychains. everyone walks in a says my place looks cozy and homey. cozy is good. i like cozy. i also have lots of plants. Ivy and decorative pepper and a general houseplant-like houseplant and some *cough* tea plants.

now back to your talk of mirrors above beds and naughty schoolgirls

Sadly, I am devoid of fun decorating ideas. I like functional stuff fortunately my wife saves me from myself. With her I'm the luckiest lesbian in Colorado.

As far as Willow and Tara go I'm sure it would be something loud, maybe some fuzzy things like Willows red sweater and plenty of candles for Flaming O's.

i have been told i have absolutely no taste what-so-ever. my favorite is christmas lights galore!! they make me smile lots. i was very pleased to see that tara's room had a few strands at the dorm.

by the way..."tire" is the correct spelling. although, if you're attempting to allow us to hear your accent (i just love accents!) spell it phonetically and we'll all enjoy it.

--forgot to add: i always think i should have someone stop me at the door before i leave for work to check for fashion faux paxs (sp?). then i remember i'm going to an office full of engineers. they're lucky if they remember what day it is, and what color they wore yesterday.
