It was No. 73. And to my great shame, I can even remember the theme tune. Sigh. Happy days.

Personally, I still watch cartoons. Not just Spongebob, either.
But when I was a kid (like, 7 years ago) I loved to watch Rugrats, Bugs Bunny, and Superfriends. (I wanted to be Aquaman).

I love cartoons. The classics are great, especially Roadrunner and Coyote, though that one's always disappointing with the poor coyote never catching his dinner. I'm sure Willow would watch Bugs Bunny if only to use it to tease Anya.

There's some great newer stuff too. I love [b:b8a3b3a2bd]Daria[/b:b8a3b3a2bd], and I could definitely see Willow identifying herself with Daria in high school, and perhaps Tara would see herself in Daria's best friend, Jane Lane, who's a painter.

My new favorite is [b:b8a3b3a2bd]Invader: Zim[/b:b8a3b3a2bd]. Little Zim was left out of Operation Impending Doom II, but he made it to the convention anway and was given a little planet off the star charts called Earth. He spies on the humans by going to grade skool, and has lots of interesting toys and schemes to conquer the Earth or occassionally save it as it would be really bad if someone else took it over before he did.

Cartoons are great. You can't beat the classics like Tom and Jerry and Daffy duck. Spongebob is funny, but I used to love watching Gummi Bears and Chip and Dale on a Sunday Morning.

Happy birthday, Petra!

I've got a bit of a soft spot for Danger Mouse myself. He was just so cool, in an incompetent kind of way. And little Penfold, so bumbling and cute.

And of course there's Batfink - "My wings are like a shield of steel". Superb.

But The Flumps - well, they're just flumptastic. Little Pootle is just the most adorable thing.

Ooh Chorlton and the Wheelies and Jamie and the Magic Torch. Also superb. Great theme tunes too.

In fact they all had great theme tunes, I think that's what made them so appealing. I do love to belt out a good children's programme tune :)

Wanted to wish Petra a happy birthday.

I'm dating myself with my cartoon choices as when I was growing up it was all George of the Jungle, Penelope Pitstop and Josie and the Pussycats.

And I always had a soft sport for claymation like Gumby.

Oh, I loved all the classics as a kid: Smurfs, Inspector Gadget, Flintstones, Looney Tunes, you name it.

As my Mom runs daycare out of the house, I've also gained quite a familiarity with the newer 'educational' ones like Arthur and Little Bear and... well, let's just say I'm familiar by association, and leave it at that.

Speaking of animated characters... our goofy, loopy and always entertaining mayor has finally announced he's quitting.

Happy trails, Mel; it's been fun, but we need someone who can actually do the job to be in your chair now...

Cartoons! I love them! I think most of my favorites have been featured in my avatar at some point. :smash

My all time favorite is Count Duckula it used to be on a Friday night before Nightmare (Which wasn't a cartoon but an equally good show).

A lot of my other favorites have already been mentioned, Danger Mouse, The Flumps,Wacky Races & many more.

I always liked Trap Door with Bert and Boney. Don't you open that trap door, cause there's something down there!

Oh I used to love Thundercats & He-Man as well. My brother used to have nearly all the action toys for He-man, however my sister used to steal them, so they could set up home with her Barbies. I'll never forget the day I saw Skeletor living it up with Beach babe Barbie. :lol

I still watch a fair few cartoons now. My best friend was really into Pokemon but I never saw the attraction, but I do like Cow & Chicken & I am Weasel.

Favourite cartoons, hmmm.....

Well I'm going first with the Simpsons because although it kind of transcends the genre it is still a cartoon and could never be anything but a cartoon and uses the fact that is a cartoon brilliantly. Then come classics like Tom and Jerry, Road Runner, Bugs Bunny. Loved Top Cat, Scooby Doo, the Flintstones and Yogi Bear. Wacky Races was definitely a favourite ,especially Dastardly and Muttley, in fact I still have a cuddly dog soft toy named Muttley. Recently I've liked Rugrats, Dexter's Laboratory and Power Puff girls. I absolutely loved Batman animated and enjoyed the Batman Beyond series.

As for British animation, I loved Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog and does anyone remember Pogles Wood? (the one with Pippin, Tog and the plant that was partial to bilberry wine). I have a great fondness for Trumpton and Camberwick Green but never liked Chigley because, let's face it, the factory workers do not have the same appeal as the Trumpton firemen or the soldier boys from Pippin Fort! I quite liked Roobarb and Custard though it was not good to watch with a headache coming on! Really loved Paddington Bear - did anyone see the episode where they did a version of Gene Kelley's Singing in the Rain dance routine with Paddington dancing and a British bobby at the end?

If we're talking 3D animation then Magic Roundabout rules though I also have a lot of affection for the Gerry Anderson classics, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Thunderbirds. I really like Wallace and Gromit but my all time favourite would have to be the Clangers. Something about their adorable knitted bodies, their whistling conversation which is always perfectly understandable and the sheer whimsy of the Soup Dragon and their music powered flying ships....

I really liked the cartoon JEM as well. I always wanted to be in a rock band with other girls. I used to watch that one everyday.

Other favorites were Scooby-doo, minus the scrappy-doo, I never liked him. There was this strange, epic cartoon, I do not remember the name, but it was about a group of kids who travel into a human body or something, and they fight evil germs. It was 2 hours long, like a movie and really cool. This was in the early 1980's, anyway.

Oh, I can't forget The Smurfs. That was a good show.

These days I really like Dexters Lab, and the Tenchi Muyo series.

Cartoons! I don't see any of the new ones - an early rise on Saturday is noon, and the one waking me up better have a really really good explanation! :devil .

I loved Spider Man, (and now I can't get the song out of my head ' Spider man, Spider man, does whatever a spider can. Spins a web any size, catches thieves just like flies - hey there here comes the spider man ...'). I also loved Fantastic 4, Scoobie Do (pre scrappy) and Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show (and now the Bugs Bunny song is competing in my head with Spider man theme - spare a prozac anyone?). Pinky and the Brain ruled!

Cartoons bring back so many cool memories - sitting home alone in my pj's in front of the TV with bowl of alphabits, flicking between two stations (that would be with a dial, pre-remote era) 'cause the two shows I liked were both on at the same time - and my mother wondered how the dial on the TV broke, um let's see channel 4, cahnnel 7; channel 4, channel 7, back and forth for an hour.

...when we didn't have a Cartoon Network, we had to get by on cartoons only one day a week!

OK, that's not quite true. We could sneak in a few before school -- either classic Warner Brothers or the Filmation Superman/Batman/Aquaman -- years before the lame-o Superfriends. WonderDog -- BLECCHH!)

What's Opera, Doc? You don't know the definition of mortal fear until you have been in a room with me and my buddies all singing along with that cartoon. ("Weturrrrn, my wuv, a wonging burns deep inside me!" "Retooiiiin my love, I want you always beesiiidde me!"..."for my luuuuuvvv is yoooouuuurrrs!") :spin Can you say "arrested development"?

KBSC, a UHF station out here, now long gone, used to run Kimba and Speed Racer, long before anime was cool. Great stuff.

Saturday mornings for me were far more about Sid & Marty Kroft. Land of the Lost. Lidsville. HR Puf'n'Stuff. For some reason, I see W/T making quality time for that rather than old cartoons.

First off, I have to say that other than a vague recollection that there might have been a balloon in the Macy's parade of the character, I have no idea who Spongebob might be. Am I missing something great?

Second, I don't think that the old Disney cartoons are getting enough props here. There was a bunch of them with Mickey, Donald and Goofy together that are classics, I particularly loved the one in the clocktower.

But yes, for old cartoons it's hard to beat Tex Avery, Chuck Jones and that gang. Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, the Roadrunner, Pepe le Pew, Wil E. Coyote...true genius. And the funniest writing i've even seen inspired by cartoons too, the great Acme Vs. Coyote piece that ran in The New Yorker. I also loved Top Cat, in fact the theme song is running thru my head as I type this.

More recently I liked Ren and Stimpy and the Animaniacs, but the best is clearly Pinky and the Brain. If there was a WB store here, I too would have a Pinky and the Brain mousepad.

I used to love getting all sugared up on Saturday mornings and watching the Ewoks cartoon. ... and they live in the forest moon...

I was also a big fan of G.I. Joe, Thundercats, He-Man and She-Ra (I still have the "Secret of the Sword" soundtrack on vinyl). Oh, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I loved the early cartoon version.

I got sucked into Pokemon at one point, but when they introduced additional ones, I couldn't keep up anymore. 100 was enough.
