Oh, golly. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! Y'all are so sweet...I'm getting verklempt...*sniffle* Hopefully this year will have some aspects, at least, that turn out better than last year's .

Cartoons...I fondly remember the afterschool viewing block of Smurfs, He-Man/She-Ra, the Transformers, and GI Joe (that last hour got cooler and cooler as I got older ). Somewhere along the line was Inspector Gadget, Scooby Doo (yes, I always loved a detective story, even ones with stoners and goofy dogs that have now engendered backlash because of idiotic movie versions); and as someone said before, the classics: Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, the Roadrunner, Droopy, Mr. Magoo, and Marvin the Martian. Also, Peanuts!! Snoopy and Woodstock and Charlie Brown and Linus and Lucy and the mwa-wa-wuh-talking teachers, and of course, Marcie and Peppermint Patty.

Ahem.

What, I can't be 9 years old again for a moment?

Also, Autumn and Ruth -- What happens when that relationship breaks up? Can you still talk to yourself, or is it an apocalyptic meltdown where you can't even look at yourself in the mirror anymore?

Dave, I loved Underdog! I can easily see Willow enjoying his self-deprecating humor.

Autumn, while I try not to date myself--I'm far too high maintenance, do you remember the fabulous Saturday morning line-up that included Fantastic Four, the Archies, Josie and the Pussycat and Hot Wheels? Or those halcyon days when prime time television included Batman (sort of cartoony), Flintstones and Johnny Quest (I had such the thing for Jade).

Notwithstanding the whole cold war nuclear threat, civil unrest, the undeclared wars in South Asia and avocado green kitchen appliances, the late sixties were a great time to be a kid: Underdog, Lance Link, the Huckleberry Hound Show...no wonder I never wanted to grow up.

Of course I remember that. And on the Friday night before a new season of cartoons there was always a prime time special you had to watch telling you just what time to set your alarm for the next morning to catch everything.

I also loved that kangaroo Skippy. Not a cartoon, but still good fun.

Oh, cartoons great idea for a thread. My favorite cartoon when I was little was Rocky and Bullwinkle. Nothing was better than moose and squirrel and I would watch every episode over and over again. I also liked The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, George of the Jungle and Underdog. My more recent vintage favorites are SpongeBob (of course), Rugrats and ArghReal Monsters! I also admit to watching Pinky and the Brain and Fairly Oddparents. Sounds like I need to get a life.

oh this is a great topic because i love cartoons!

i think that's one thing i did best when i was a kid, watch cartoons all day, all week!

i love the smurfs, i esp. like lady smurf , care bears, rainbow brite, looney tunes, woody woodpecker, alvin and the chipmunks, garfield, ducktales, peter pan, x-men, he-ra (she-ra and he-man hehehe), conan the barbarian, and a lot more that i can't remember.

i also love watching those series, the von trapp family, the little princess, the secret garden, cedric, heidi, the magical twins.

and manga!!!! i love manga!!! astroboy, mazinger z, voltes 5, voltron(lions), yuyu hakusho(ghost fighter), dragon ball z, daimos, candy candy, slam dunk, ranma 1/2, lu pin, and so many more!

Hehehe, marvellous - I come home from long day at work to find talk of such beloved cartoons as Ducktales, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Gummi Bears. But no mention of Dungeons and Dragons??? That show rocked!! Much to my embarrassment I can still quote entire episodes as I have some still on video (VHS lasts surprisingly well even after almost 20 years!) - and my friends think I have finally lost the plot. Dudes, that show was awesome
I love cartoons from when I was little, Jem was great, I'm so pleased I'm not the only one who remembers it (Kimber was the best by far ) also Jamie and the Magic torch, Battle of the Planets and Thundercats. She-ra was ok but I have to admit Hordak used to scare me
I also have to admit to being a big CosgroveHall junkie when I was little, maybe it's because I'm english, maybe just because I'm daft, but Dangermouse and Count Duckula rocked. Count Duckula first started out as a villain on Dangermouse, that always threw me a little bit but DM and Penfold were amazing... (cue crazy woman singing about a powerhouse) And Nanny and Igor on CD were funny as hell, and Dr. Von Goosewing! Ok, am in serious danger of losing any respect I have left here
Trap door was also one of the best things on TV ever, Berk was always warned but someone always left the damn thing open! And Fraggle Rock, ah Fraggle Rock how I miss you.....
There's not that much newer stuff I really like to, or get a chance to watch but I think Pinky and Brain is tinged with genius. And the Simpsons or course, but sometimes that's hard to remember it's 'just' a cartoon....
Aw guys and gals, you made me all happy and nostalgic now, I think I may go and lie in bed and watch my He-man tape and bond with my 3ft cuddly Dangermouse I've had since I was 4

Okay, now I'm not entirely sure what to make of this...I just returned from the local In and Out drive in (I know, I know, not only do I watch cartoons, I eat junk food). After ordering at the walk-up window, I turn around and find two W/T age lesbians standing behind me and totally making out with each other. We are talking lip to lip, a hint of tongue, seriously PG13. Why do I bring this up? One of them was wearing a Spongebob Squarepants tee shirt. So, was it mere coincidence, or is today's W/T and cartoons discussion working some mojo in my town?

By the way, the 40 something heterosexual couple standing in line behind the girls responded to their smooching by starting up with their own smooching--to the intense amusement of the teen couple standing behind them. Love is in the air at the In and Out.

As a kid ... Pound Puppies, Underdog, Muppet Babies, Gummi Bears, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Talespin, and the original Nickelodeon version of Doug. Also in a non-animated variety I loved Fraggle Rock, The Muppet Show, Pooh's Corner, and Dumbo's Flying Circus. Does anyone else remember those last two? With big animatronic or puppet characters. There was also this show on Nickelodeon called Jeff and Jody about a mannaquin who came to life ... god, that was the best show ever. No one else remembers it though.

Nowadays, I pretty much stick with Nick. I love The Wild Thornberries. Adore them even. I went and saw the new movie twice. Spongebob. I loved Ahh! Real Monsters and The Angry Beavers. That was the best cartoon ever. Oh, and Little Bear and Blue's Clues. I shamelessly watch them every morning as I get ready for ... college. But what's up with that stupid turtle Franklin? That's one turtle I'd like to see in the highway ...

Went back and watched some again as an adult. Man do they ever suck! Course I still laugh at the classics, Bugs, Daffy all the Warner Brothers stuff.

These days I watch maybe a little too many cartoons.

My wife loves Men in Black and all the Batman ones.
My son loves Disney cartoons and we both are glued to the TV when Kim Possible is on. Hey, she is a cute red head.

Ahhh, cartoony goodness. My favorite cartoons from my childhood were Peanuts, especially the Great Pumpkin one, and Scooby Doo. The original, before Crappy Scrappy. I also really liked Johnny Quest. I thought Hadji and Johnny were cute.

As an adult, my love of cartoons has grown beyond all reason and decency. My holy (or unholy) trinity of adult cartoons are: [1] South Park (cuz nothing beats Cartman Gets an Anal Probe and "Uncle Fucker") [2] King of the Hill (even though it hits too close to home) and [3] the Simpsons (thank you Tracey Ullman).

Oh and happy birthday as well to Petra! A kitten who, as far as I can tell, is not a cartoon. I don't think.

eta: Hot action at the In and Out eh? Well, I guess that's what happens when you have bumper stickers that are easily defaced into saying "In and Out Urge". Ok, I'm off to In and Out. Cuz, um, I got an Urge.

I grew up watching every cartoon made, back in the "old days" before cable: The Flinstones, Bugs Bunny, Top Cat, Space Ghost, etc. TV was my third parent.

When my children were little we would get up early on Saturdays and watch The Smurfs, Thundercats, The Muppet Babies, and whatever my boys liked. The Tick was one of our favorites.

There's no cable here on the island and a dish would be difficult to setup due to us being surrounded by tall trees, so our choices are limited these days. Doesn't seem to be as many cartoons on Saturday morning. I like Pinky and the Brain a lot, and Ren and Stimpy when I'm at someone's house that gets it.

I've missed this site. My new job has kept me very busy. I don't even have time to read Pens during the week! Maybe I can catch up on some of my favorite stories this coming weekend. I'm not complaining about the new job though. It is so good to be working again.

I just heard that Alyson is getting married in the Fall. I wish for them many happy years.

Classics are Charlie Brown, Wacky Races, Jetsons, Dangermouse, Transformers (well, all 80s cartoons really...I love the way how they were all 30 minute adverts for toys) and much more that I can't remember right now.

Nowadays, I'm a sucker for anything tht looks remotely anime, so that means Samurai Jack, The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory.

But my favourite cartoons are the japanese anime feature-length film, such as Akira (well, obviously), Ghost in the Shell (becuase it's totally mental), Perfect Blue and Wings of the Honneamease (which isn't how you spell it). Anime kinda deserves special mention just becuase of how violent the damn things are. Ever seen an 18-rated cartoon before?

my favorite cartoon will always be jem. just for the early punk rock influence the misfits had on me. oh, and the sheer quality of their hit single, misfits in hawaii. aww yeah.

I'm almost afraid to post in this thread, because I am such a cartoon fanatic. If I really were to list all the toons that I have loved over the years, the list would be so long that no one would even try to look at it. So, I'll try to be brief, and won't even mention much anime. Really. Keep in mind that every toon listed here has a place in my heart. There are so many more that I like, but they're either not worth mentioning, or they're Japanese, so few people would know them.

Besides the classics, such as Bugs Bunny, there are many a toon that delight me to this day. I'll completely skip over the 60's and 70's toons, and dive right into the 80's.

I love 80's tv. It was what I watched all the time. The tv was my babysitter, and I payed very close attention it it. Of course I loved G.I. Joe, The Transformers, Jem, and The Smurfs just like many from my generation. I'll skip the commonly loved shows, and try for some more obscure stuff.

I used to watch a ton of cartoons. Some of the classic ones I remember watching are: Scooby Doo, Woody Woodpecker, Tom and Jerry, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, The Smurfs, and Garfield.

I also watched Alvin and the Chipmunks, Duck Tales, Tale Spin, Inpector Gadget, Doug, Animaniacs, Chip'n Dale Rescue Rangers, and of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
