It's Best Kitty Ever Besides MKF Wednesday 1-22-03

Postby jixer » Wed Jan 22, 2003 12:04 pm

Hello Kittens-

Since no one has posted a day yet I'm bringing up a topic near and dear to my heart. I've had crazy cats, lazy cats and snuggle cats.

My first cat was when I was three. He was a stray who thought being picked up by a three year old was cool. My dad ran him over and cried worse than I did. We got a boxer after that, and she too thought all children were wonderful, my mom was perfection and my dad was tolerable. But she hated cats.

We gave a home to several foster strays over the next few years. We ended up keeping a white and tortie mix with the temper of wolverine when she had kittens. 'El Gato' (I know, gender confusion) was ours until we moved and someone wanted her very much.

My last cat, and only cat of my own, was Ilsa, named so because she adopted me at eight weeks when I brought home my first VCR and rented my first movie, Casablanca. She ran between my legs while I was trying to get in the apartment with the VCR. It was my first own apartment and she made it a much better place.

When I left my mom took Ilsa as no apartments in my new city would take a cat without an arm and a leg. Shortly after that my grandmother came to stay with my mom. As her health failed Ilsa became grandma's cat, refusing to leave her unless my mom crated her. When grandmother left for the last time Ilsa kind of gave up. My sisters and my mom tried but she died about a year later. The vet said her liver was infected, my mother insists it was a broken heart.

I'm saying Ilsa was my Best Kitty Ever Besides MKF.

In the spirit of fairness any good dogs will also be given honorary cat status for this thread :)

Oh, all right, it's because I'm a sucker for dogs too.

Thank you for your time,

Jixer

I have a kitty! Shes a calico and guess what her name is? TARA! yep, I named her after my fav witch. See, when i first brought her home I put her in my room and was picking her up and showing her everything. But she was so quiet, she hadn't meowed at all. We thought she might have been mute or had something wrong. But when I held her up to my W/T collage she put her paw on Ambers face and let out a big meow, so I named her Tara. My next mission is to get a red tabby and name it Willow. :wink

Okay, I am over the disappointment of the true subject of this thread. :p
I have 2 cats right now. Two sisters, they are very beautiful and they act like it as well. Little primadonnas. I've had a total of 5 cats before them throughout my life. I can't pick a favourite really as my attachment to them has changed as I have gotten older. If I had to chose though, I'd chose the cat I had before the 2 I have now. We already had his sister from the same litter and he joined us a few weeks later, both still young kittens.

He and his sister formed a team that opened doors. One of them would hang onto the doorhandle while the other pushed open the door. His sister was killed by a car when she was 1 year old. He continued to hang onto doorhandles and sometimes they would open but if not it was still an effective way of letting us know when he wanted to get in or out. Later he went to live with my father when my parents divorced and after my father died I took him into my home and I became very attached to him because he had been my father's cat, and my father -despite having a bit of a temper (his bark always being worse than his bite so to speak) and not really being an animal loving type person- was crazy about that cat. I had to have the cat put to sleep a few years later at the age of 10 because he had cancer. A few years later I ended up being adopted by the cats I have now, despite my stronger sentimental attachment to their predecessors, I so think I have the closest bond with these. I can safely say that I am definitely a cat person, but I am not like death to all dogs.

When my brother and I were kids, we had our share of fish, hamsters, parakeets, etc., but my favorite was our kitty, Sammy (Samantha Jane was her full name). She was a black, grey and white stripey cat with one blue eye and one green eye. She liked to sit on top of the TV when my brother and I were playing nintendo and swipe at super mario as he or luigi jumped around the screen.
Unfortunately, when she was 3 she got encephalitis and had to be put to sleep :(
Now I want to get a kitty, but i haven't been able to find one yet. hopefully this spring there will be plenty to get. My favorite pet of all time, however, was my ball python, Sidd (short for Siddhartha). Sidd was the best snake ever, almost like a kitty, he used to like to push his nose under my chin, like kitties sometimes do. Can Sidd be an honorary kitten for this thread, too? :p

I have two cats right now... well really my gf does.. :grin and we have two dogs. One of the cats is actually mine and we got him last year... he does have a real name but we call him "Flippy Cat" because at random times throughout the day he flips out and starts sprinting around the entire house! Up and down the steps, over and under the bed.. he goes crazy!! But the best Kitty ever would have to be the cat we had before Flippy.. her name was Chase and she loved to come and sit with me. She loved people and only when she was very sick did she hide from anyone. It was sad when she died but since she was sick a lot during her life we were happy to have her as long as we did.

My one and only kitty was a kitty a friend and I stole from her next door neighbor who would beat her with a broom. She was a six month old calico who I named Willow (after the movie wayyyy before the cute and irresistable one from Buffy).

She wouldn't let anyone else touch her, and hissed and clawed when anyone tried. But she wouldn't leave me alone - the minute I sat down she would be on my lap (made playing guitar very difficult - she'd wedge herself in between. Anyway one day when she reached 13 she just just dissappeared. I still don't know what happened - no one ever answered my flyers, and the humane society here never had her brought in. I still miss her, and she'll always be my princess.

I have a beautiful cat called Bodger(don't ask!) We got her from a rescue place when she was about 3 months old it's now 12 years later. She has a strange personality, sometimes she wan't all the love in the world, othertimes she bites u if you go near her. Mad I know!. I have done a very old spell on her to make her my familar. Something tells me she know's but in other ways I think she refuses to be anything but herself.
Anyone know the average age for kitties? I really don't wan't to lose her anytime soon:heart

:love

<<<<<<< the little guy on the left.... bestest kitty and the most spoiled, too... very very demanding and vocal about it, too... :D

I also call him my "four pawed" alarm clock... but he doesn't keep very good time... he just makes the decision as to what time I should be getting up to feed him... and I had better get to it or I will hear it and hear it and hear it!!!

I have the bestest kitty in the world.....His name is shadow and I've had him since I was in 1st grade. Some of his nice shiny black coat is turning grey...and the only teeth he has left are his fangs, but I still love him and always will.

But, today I'd like to give my puppy, Sheik, honorary kitty status, in his memory. He died today while I was in school...he stopped eating, and we found him outside, frozen....with our other puppy by him, nudging him. He was a great little puppy, I'll always love him.

I had a goreous black cat called friday. Why? i have no idea, it was a part of the family before i was.
She was the most friendly cat you could eve hope to have. She would lie out on the floor in the living room every time you returned from the "outside world" (being outdoors) for you to stroke her tummy and greet her hello!
We used to take the neighbors dogs for walks down the beach, which Friday would watch us do from her window and get increadibly jelous that we were taking "that noisy big ball of hair" (what we used to think Friday thought of the dog) for a walk, and that she would be home allone. But all would be forgiven if we brought her a seagul feather back to play with, with all the freash smell of the sea all over it!
Friday was my feline twin, i mean if i was a cat too then we would have been like twins (apart from the fact she was 1 month older than me!). Every time i not well, she seemed to be out of sorts too. (Maybe because she wabted attention! LOL)...
Sadly she died at 16 (human years!) as she had been having trouble with her tummy all her life, that we couldnt give her milk or tinned food, always the best fresh fish for Friday!

AmberEyedDragon, I'm so sorry about Sheik. Hugs to you.

My family has always had cats, and they were all special. I have a 15 year old Himalayan cat named Pugsley. I adopted her ten years ago, and she's been the perfect pet. I do a lot of my work at home, and she's good company. She's generally very quiet; if she needs something, she'll come over and stand near me and send out a "notice me" vibe. Of course, I snap to attention when that happens, and give her whatever she wants. Including some of whatever I'm eating.

My gf's cat, Lucky, who is about 9 years old, is affectionate with us, and is good with the puppy. Aside from a few swats across his nose, I think she likes him. But she's too aggressive with Pugsley, and Pugsley genuinely hates her. I keep them away from each other as much as possible. But I tend to cut Lucky a lot of slack, because her previous owner tried to have her euthanized simply because her boyfriend didn't like Lucky. The vet refused to kill a perfectly healthy cat, and kept Lucky at his clinic until a home could be found for her. Unfortunately for Lucky, that meant living in a cage and being a blood donor for a several months. Maybe as a result, she was very standoffish when GF adopted her. But we've given her a lot of love, and she's grown into a very loving cat. Except toward other cats.

I have two cats presently a Siamese named Mercedes (who is 13 yrs. old), and a stray I found last year named Precious. Mercedes whose nickname is "Satan" :lol , whines like a baby, and can turn on you in a split second, but then pretends like nothing happened (ie "all is well" now give me love). Although, he is my "baby", so I'm willing to overlook his faults.

Precious is the sweetest cat, although she eats like a vacuum cleaner (I keep thinking one day she will explode). She follows me around all the time, and when I leave the house she goes to the window giving me her own kitty :wave . Although, when she realizes I'm not coming right back she looks so sad, it truly breaks my heart. I also call her my "kitty scarf" because when I sleep she wraps around me like a scarf, which is great in the winter time (not so great in the hot summer). Really they both have their own quirks that make them unique, and utterly adorable (how I love my :baby ).

Sara, hugs to you :love

I have four cats.....all crazy!

George, black and white, he is 16 and yesterday he had a few of his teeth pulled :( Poor baby.

Ceasar, black and white, half siamese though, he is 6. He is a totally weird! In a nice way, a very confused cat who I don't think knows he is a cat.

Billy, tabby and white, he is 5. Very, very cute but terribly shy.

Bea, tabby, Billy's sister who is also 5 of course ;) She is so friendly! She will sit on anyone's knee for a fuss. Loves attention and shouts for it when she doesn't think she is getting enough.

We also have a bunny.....Sammy. He is half wild, black and white and 8.....a little old for a bunny but cute ;)

That is my menagerie! :grin

LOL! This is a great thread. I love cats. We always had at least two in the house when I was a kid: some we got from shelters, others sort of "followed us home." :D Sadly, the ones I loved best were with us for the least amount of time. One was a big gray tabby I named Daisy, after the character on the Dukes of Hazard (LOL!), and we only had her for about four years--we think she might've got into some poison. :( But she was the most amazing hunter--if it was smaller than her and moved, she'd kill it. She would bring down full-grown rabbits that were almost her size.

We had a little bright orange tom that we named Ziggy (after Ziggy Stardust). He was so lovable and talkative and polite (he was so chivalrous with our older cat that it was almost eerie) that it was like he was a person in a cat's body. But he vanished after we'd had him less than a year. :(

Interestingly, some of my favorite cats have been those owned by neighbors, what I like to call "rent-a-cats." My parents' neighbors had a big tom we liked to call Screamer, because he just never shut up--he was very outgoing and funny and social. When I lived in my old apartment, my neighbors had two tigers: an orange tom and a brown female, both of whom loved to come over and visit me. When they heard my car pull up, they would run over from their own yard and wait by the door for me! I could let them in, play with them, and then toss them out when they got to be a nuisance--didn't have to worry about food or vet bills or emptying the litter box. ;)

I love dogs, too--the bigger, the better. We had plenty of those, too, growing up. My ideal dog would be a cross between a golden retriever and a chocolate lab. I also like border collies, because they're so smart. :D
