It's Teddy Bear Thursday, MKF 1/9/03

Postby La » Thu Jan 09, 2003 2:00 am

Yay! I wanted to post this on Tuesday but someone beat me to it. Teddy Bear Tuesday sounds better than Teddy Bear Thursday, but it'll do :)

I am up at 5 am because I just finished my paper on the fictionalization of joan of arc in film, yay!!

So on to the topic, teddy bears and other such stuffed animals. I still sleep with a teddy bear named George that I got for my 18th birthday from a boyfriend at the time. I have tried numerous time to stop sleeping with him, and was quite successful the year I was in Korea since I didn't even bring him with me! But as soon as I got home, his cute little brown eyes and soft squishy body just begged me to sleep with him all over again, and so I gave in, and he was lucky enough to make the move to Boston with me.

So it's time to confess! Who sleeps with stuffed animals? What are they? Who gave them to you?

And of course, do Willow or Tara sleep with anything besides each other? We never saw any stuffed critters on their shared bed (unless we did and I wasn't paying attention) but that doesn't mean Tara didn't hide something under the bed to pull out and snuggle with when Willow wasn't looking. Or vice-versa of course.

I confess. My roommate is a twenty years old big teddy.

Willow has a ton of stuff animals. I remember a big white dog. Check the famous coming out scene on NMR.

Also I remember Willow saying to Dawn in a S5 episode about doing a spell to make the stuffed animals dance after Dawn mentions she wants to bring Joyce back.

Good morning all!!!

I'm not embarrassed to say that I sleep with a Teddy Bear. His name is Freddy and I got him for my 5th birthday from my grandmother. He's 32 years old now and missing an ear that my dog chewed off about 20 years ago but he's still as soft as the day I got him. I give him a bath every so often and throw in extra fabric softener with him and he comes out smelling great. He's my best friend and I know that he'll always be there for me. But isn't that what Teddy Bears are for?
Well, have a good day everyone.

Love to All,
Barb

Yes, Willow has a big stuffed dog who is often featured in Scout's drawings over on Pens.

As for me, I have a stuffed gorilla named Bruce, and I love to sleep with him, but he isn't often allowed into bed because there are already two people and two cats in there.

Nice topic!

I have a bear called Ogie. He's supposed to be a Yogi Berra Yankees toy (get it, Berra?), and he used to have a pinstriped shirt and pants. Now he's even lost the brim of his cap (it looks like a yarmulke). I've had him since I was born.

I don't, and have never slept with anything stuffed and furry. A girlfriend gave me two stuffed animals once; suffice to say, they found themselves on the way to some children soon enough.

We split up first, I mean. I'm not entirely heartless. ;)

So no stuffed animals or figures or anything like that for me. I have one stuffed toy that was given to me on my first birthday, and I was rather fond of him as a kid, but when I went to university I thought that it was best Cyril didn't come with me. I mean, he was pretty threadbare at the time and I think three years of hard drinking and rampant sex might have just knocked the stuffing out of him. Uh, literally. So he stayed at home, where he remains in the calm safety of my parents' home. Cyril. Hee. He's a PGTips monkey, for those of you that know the adverts. But see, thirty years ago, those monkeys had outfits. Cyril sports a cycling outfit which is stripy and rather garish. I suspect, and have done for some time now, that he's actually gay. Because as we know, all gayboys wear tight shorts and bright colours. He hasn't yet come out to me but you know, I haven't come out to him either. So I think we tend to tolerate one another. I suppose you could say he's my plushy Joel.

Ahem.

Anyway, any girlfriend of mine who wants to win my heart needs to steer clear of the cuddly toy route. I will only be pretending to cry over it and stroke it, okay? I respond much better to free beer. :)

I haven't slept with a stuffed animal since I was a kid, but I had a rather huge menagerie back then. I was the first kid on both sides of my family, and the first kid amongst all of my parents friends, too- so I was nauseatingly spoiled when I was young. I used to wait until my parents swept all of my stuffed lil buddies off of the bed, tucked me into it, and turned out the light. And after they had closed my door, my little tiny Julia self would get up, (trying to hurry so that the monsters under the bed didn't grab me by the ankles), get them all up off the floor again, and pile them around where I was going to sleep like a big nest of cuddly, furry things. This is what comes of letting a little girl with an overactive imagination sleep alone in a queen sized bed until she is eight. Hee. That bed was just waaaay too big for me. I got lonely. Hence the stuffed animal nest. Oh, and they all had names, all like, 60 of them, and I used to send myself off to sleep in my busy young head telling myself stories featuring myself and them as the characters. I also believed firmly, for a while, that they were my real family, and that gypsies had kidnapped me and sold me to my mean ol' parents. I was a freakin' weird little kid. Guess not much has changed. Heh.

My favorite teddy bear was named Radar. He was brown and had a broken music box inside that, if you shook him, made pleasantly dissonant noises. And my one doll that I liked (even back then I was squicked by them), was one of those ones that you could give it a bottle and it peed through a hole in its crotch? I guess that means it was a girl, but mine was a boy. I called him Brunc. :baby

Ooh Julia, I had one of those. They called her Tiny Tears. Although quite how she got that name when all she did was wet her pants I don't know. I guess maybe Incontinent Imogen was a name they threw out...

looks like i'm in good company here. i sleep with a grey bear whom i have named 'clement greg grey'. yah i got a little carried away with the naming process.
i got him on my birthday two years ago from my then friend, now girlfriend.
he is good for hugs and kisses and i talk to him more often than i would care to admit.
my girlfriend and myself have him a voice, a personality and a life (of sorts).
yes we think we need help...the psychological kind.....

i suspect that willow talks to her stuff toys too...not so much tara...

Ok so on our bed we have lovely bright african cushions that we picked up from our last holday, but yes amongst the pillows at the head can be found a Scabbers rat from Harry Potter poking out. Mostly though I fall asleep with a variety of books and magazines scattered around me, upon which snoozes the cat.
But Scabbers is now an ever present part of the family.

:wave Saw teddy bears as the topic and had to post. I collect bears and not the soft fuzzy sleep with kind. Mine I have to hide from the kitties. But each has his own personality and picked me out and I always tell new ones they are not going to be lonely at their new home ( okay I'm weird :p )

But speaking of kitties my Danny bear , cuddles better then any bear I've ever had. He cuddles up to me when we are sleeping and in the morning when he knows I am awake he chirps to be scratched and cuddled with some more. He will chirp at strangers to follow him into the bedroom and make them cuddle with him.

:lol I used to have one of those peeing dolls. :laugh It used to freak me out how they did it so I would constantly give 'em water and watch them go..wierd. I know I had loads of teddy bears. I remember a small white one, nice and fluffy..zzzzzz
but I'd have to say that I blame my glow-in-the-dark freak self to Gloworm. Yep, he was my pal at night for a long while. Squeeze him and watch him glow. I was about 8 or 9 when he made his appearance (I was afraid of the dark so I was really glad he was invented). And, ya know...those monsters under the bed, hey..they were real. I used to cover myself head to toe (and just enough breathing space) in fear that they would pop up and grab my leg or something, even if it was 90 degrees under there...
As of right now: my gf spotted the Care Bears teddy bears in a store while we were walking to the xmas tree in the city last month. SO, daddio got us CareBears. :p they're tiny. I got Bedtime Bear, my gf got CheerBear (funny how I had to ask my gf if she knew the names cuz I honeslty couldn't. She answered without hesitation...) but they sleep on the throw pillows when we go beddie bye...

Hmm, Bedtime Bear's blue, CheerBear's pink...go figure

Hyo Shin, there's also one more from OMWF where the teddy is seen next to the lovely Tara as she's feeling *ahem* cooooomplete...

I used to have a care bear! Tenderheart! Now Im kinda missing my old toys :(

Oh my god I used to have this completely freaky thing that I absolutely loved. It was called a Were - bear and it just looked like an ordinary bear ..... *dramatic music* until you turned its face inside out and it'd have like green, crazy eyes and fangs! Then when you turned its paws inside out claws appeared. I loved that thing looking back I have no idea why.

I have two pink pigs. One was given to me by my jackass ex-boyfriend from high school (hey, just because he's a loser doesn't mean I'm going to throw away a perfectly good gift!), and the other was a gift from my parents that they bought on a trip to Chicago. I consider them to be brother and sister. The first one is named Handel (after George Frideric Handel, who wrote The Messiah, yes I'm a freak), and the second one is Missy.

On a much sadder note (sorry to bring down the thread), my cat Chelsey died this morning. She was with us for 16 years. She had kidney failure, and was in a lot of pain, and there was nothing we could do, so I took her to the vet and they put her to sleep.

And now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go hang out in the crappy feelings thread, cause I feel pretty goddamn crappy. :(

I have my favorite teddy bear that I sleep with. I got him when I was 7 or so. I was in the hospital to have my tonsils taken out and my mom and dad bought him for me to cheer me up. That was 13 years ago, and he still cheers me up when I have a bad day :) The only thing is I can't remember his name.....I think it was Teddy....I was 7 not very original

Hmmm, I have a warm, soft teddy bear that is particularly cuddlesome. I like to think of my bear as a special bookmark for my bed, reserving that space until someone special can assume her residence beside me. ;)

Problem is, I need a name for my cuddlesome bear. Any suggestions?

I have a stuffed dog named Morgan (he was named after a crush I had on a boy in summer camp) who graces my bed, that is until my cats throw him off the bed (I have a feeling they're jealous :lol ). Morgan is quite dear to me since he was a present given to me by mother when I was two, so he has definitely seen better days (god, I was so surprised a few years ago when I saw a picture in a photo album, and realized Morgan once was pink).

Also have a stuffed frog (Froggy Jr/Boris.) given to by my college roommate, as a gag gift (which also ties into a private joke between us) that holds a place in my heart and bed.

I sleep with 2 bears, one I got from my nan when I was 3 wks old, so she's 34 years minus 4 weeks old :) When I was younger her name was Teddy Edward (it was a kiddie programme at the time, & yes I know not a usual girl's name) but now it's shortened to Ted. She's threadbear too, & her paws & ears are darned where her stuffing started to come out.

The other one was a gift from my best friend in the whole world ever & she's called Bear. She's one of the gray stragglie bears with a blue nose.

Ok..so slept with this one stuffed animal ALL the time...and there was a book about it. and everyone I ever told never knows it. Please tell me someone knows about Baku? He was brown, with dark brown leopard like spots on his body...hair like a lions...an elephant-like nose, and a lions tale. He was all cute and cuddly but he would fight off the big scary nightmares that the kids had....

....so u all think im nuts now huh?

*peeks head into thread and skampers in* My name is Shelly, I'm 19 years old and *gasps* I am a stuffed-animal-freak-aholic! At home I have about four shelves of stuffed animals that range from bears to all sorts of animals. At school I got with the bare necessities. I have my teddy bear named Christopher that I made two years ago. Yes, folks I said made as in went to Build-a-bear (man what an awesome store!) and put together. Now some may think it's a kiddy store but I was trying to be a supportive friend and visited my friend at work which lured me into making one myself. Must say though Build-a-bear is the cutest store ever where else can u buy skechers for your toy bear! I think my two oldest stuffed animals though are my Pillow-person which is rather raggedy and I've had since the age of 3 I think and my dog which is blue (who makes blue dogs?! i mean there's blues clues but before that when did you ever see a blue dog?!) his name if Foofur however I did not name my fluffy blue dog it was on his collar. I've had him since I was 2! I'm so big on stuffed animals it's like all my friends know when they're getting a gift it'll either be a stuffed animal or come with one, I think I need help lol.

How about Ms Teddy Fantastico?

And yes, I have a very soft, white teddy bear that my Mother got me for Christmas about 7 years ago. Her name is Carol, as in Christmas Carol, which, incidentally, happens to be the name of my ex. I also have a little stuffed badger named Bucky who sleeps on the other side of my bed.

I don't think Willow sleeps with stuffed animals anymore. She has Tara. :wink :heart

I sleep with my Winnie-The-Pooh bear that I got for Christmas when I was around the age of six.
He's really a great security item to snuggle up to in bed, primarily for lack of a certain blond or redhead who will remain nameless.
Especially on these bloody cold winter nights here in Iowa.:baby
