It's the day before Christmas Tuesday 12/24 MKF!!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Mon Dec 23, 2002 11:27 pm

Merry Christmas, Kittens!!!

Okay, so I'm a day early. I hope nobody minds. :shy

Christmas Eve is actually a much busier day for me. I have two singing gigs in quick succession. One choir is singing in the big LA County Holiday Celebration down at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. We're supposed to go on at 5:40pm and sing four Christmas Carols. I hope they don't run behind, because I then must hurry back up the Pasadena Freeway for a 6:30pm warmup at my church! :shock Fortunately, the actual service doesn't start until 8:00, so I have plenty of time - but warmups are important.

If you get LA's PBS station KCET, you'll be able to see the entire Dorothy Chandler program, since they'll be carrying it live. As I said, my group - the Occidental-Foothill Master Chorale - is supposed to go on at 5:40pm.

Yesterday my church choir premiered a brand-new anthem, Comfort, O Comfort My People, written for us by jazz musician Bill Cunliffe. I've got a recording of our performance online now, and I'd like to share it with you as my Christmas Eve gift. You can choose from two options:

RealMedia - Not quite as good audio quality, but ready right away.
MP3 - A really big file (9MB), but much better audio.

What do all of you have planned for your Christmas Eve? I hope you all have a great day! :bounce

BBOvenGuy, sounds as though you have a chaotic day planned! I hope it all goes well.

I am working......joy of joys! There again, it is a good excuse to hide from the last minute shoppers!

I am hpoing to go to a midnight mass but apart from that, the plan is to hide from the chaos. :)

Merry Christmas to all kitties!

Hi, Kitties! Merry Christmas! :shy

I, like Jules, am working today. 7-5... blergh! I wish I could hide from the chaos, but tomorrow(well, today now) I get to be smack dab in the middle of it. After that, I get to fight my way out to the airport for a short night of sleep at a near by hotel. My flight home leaves at 6:30 in the morning and our airport we have to be there by 4:30, so I figured that was the lesser of two evils. :smug

I hope everyone has a great holiday and that you all get a well deserved break... :grin

:heart and peace! :)

RIP Joe Strummer

Christmas time seems to be a time for losing artists of quality. Two years ago we lost the sublime Kirstie McColl in an accident. This year it's Joe Strummer who gave us so much joy from his work with The Clash and The Pogues among other projects. At least his death was apparently peaceful and he died among family.

Sorry if this puts a down on everyone's holiday season, but I thought it was worth a mention.

Thanks, Joe.

Happy holidays to all Kittens!

Bob, many good wishes to your choirs on their performances. I hope everyone's plans involve much love, fellowship and good cheer.

On Saturday, a friend and I drove a truck for our local food bank, picking up donations from grocery stores all over town. At the malls I observed that most last-minute shoppers did not look happy. At all. My condolences to all those braving the last shopping day before Xmas.

Tonight is turkey and all the trimmings at my brother-in-law's place. Last year, the "next generation" took over the turkey dinner responsibilities from our respective parents, when Jen and I put it on. We've since agreed to do so in alternation with the B-I-L. All I can say is that, as a child, I had NO IDEA of the time, effort and logistics involved in such an operation, until we had to do it ourselves.

Well, I'm wrapping the rest of my presents, surveying the wonders of Christmas television, and looking forward to taking my neice and nephew to church later on this evening. I swear, the children's masses are always adorable, and if they do what they've done in previous years and get a group of children to sing Away In A Manger, you're likely to hear me crying from wherever you are. Heh.

Happy Christmas Kittens.

Today's going to be busy for me, too. I have to go into work for a few hours. Then I have to rush home and get femmed out for my girlfriend's niece's wedding, which is at one in the afternoon, and has been planned for a whole three weeks. Then an hour or so at the reception before we have to jaunt off to my parents' house and help cook Christmas Eve dinner. My sister and I are roasting ten Cornish game hens, which are currently defrosting in my fridge. Or um... are in theory defrosting in my fridge. I took them out of the freezer yesterday morning but they're still solid as little chicken-shaped rocks. :x

Tomorrow will be relaxy, though. Jer and I have the whole day to ourselves up until suppertime to lounge around in our pajamas, give each other our gifts, and watch the Grinch Who Stole Christmas cartoon. Fifty trillion times. Hee.

Here's to wishing the Kittens a very merry Christmas Eve. ;) And to the British Kitties an all naked Girls Aloud Christmas special on the telly.

I hate you Jho. In a chummy way, naturally. I won't even begin to go into why Sarah is hotter than Nadine. But Xita agrees with me. So there. Neener neener. And that's the adult part of my argument. Heh.

I'm watching The Snowman now on Channel 4. Guess who's going to cry soon? Hee. Yeah baby, I'm walking in the air as well. Must be the drugs...

Oh god. It's just melted. Poor little boy.

Anyhoo, can I just say that I can't imagine anything better than watching naked Girls Aloud with my parents on Christmas Day? Uh huh. Sure.:sigh

And um...Sarah. Go Sarah. Go to my house and wait naked for me in bed with your boxing gear on...

Ahem.

Postby justastraightdog » Tue Dec 24, 2002 9:35 am

Here in Germany, Christmas' Eve is the big day with all the presents. 25th and 26th are all about food and family (or family and food for those with weird priorities).

But I've got some early Christmas presents this year:

First of all, I found this board. A big honking thank you to all the Kittens - for just being who you are. To those who make this place possible and to those who make it something special - not that the former aren't a part of the latter. :)

Then there have been the best 40 Buffy-related minutes in a very loooong time - and my thanks go to the BBC for making them possible. And to a certain someone, one of the few who I neither met in real life nor communicated with online, but who will always have a special place in my heart from now on.

Finally, for the third best, my thanks go to some executives over at Fox, who stopped taking their stupid pills. I know that this isn't the time for being gleeful, but I can't erase the smile from my face when reading all those whiny and childish statements from someone who is just beginning to learn the unsuspected truth behind the Lo3.

These are the longest and darkest nights. And we celebrate our hope and knowledge that the days will get longer again. That there will be more light again. And if you found your light, hold it, embrace it, don't let it go.

And never let someone take it away from you.

Did I mention that these are the all-you-can-eat-from-all-your-favorite-meals days in my family? Well - seems like the first course is calling me, have to go now. :drool

Have a nice cozy or kinky winter solstice, all you Kittens!

Merry Christmas Everyone.

Christmas Eve is usually the most fun day of the holidays. Today I'm going to be making a family trip to the airport to pick up my dad, who I haven't seen in a couple of months. Then, I have to start fixing my banana pudding, and baking cookies. And then, we all go over to my grandmother's house for food, fun, and family...oh and presents. :p

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. :)

This year is my first Christmas with the kids so it should be exciting. I just got back from buying brussel sprouts thinking that the store would be quiet. Who knew Americans could wake up before 8am and burst into Christmas carols in the store :D Anyway off to make mince pies and brandy butter now.

Have a Merry Christmas Kittens.

Happy Christmas Eve, Kittens!

There's a Christmas present for you on Pens. There's a happy ending for this update, and I didn't leave you any cliffhangers just 'cause I'm feeling nice for the holidays. I hope you enjoy it.

Now that I've got the cat bathed, I'm planning on a quiet day myself now, reading while I watch the snow fall.

I would like to wish a very Merry Christmas to all the kittens!

I only had to work a half day today, so now I will be getting ready to go to the childrens mass at our church and head over to my brothers house for wigilia. Traditionally, its supposed to be a meatless meal, but for some reason, my sister-in-law has never quite grasped that fact. After that, I think I may attend the candlelight service at Marianne Williamsons church just to hear what her message might be. Then its one whole day off followed by the nightmare of day-after-Christmas refunds. I think the grinch must have worked in retail in his younger days.

No snow here yet, but they're predicting 3 inches tonight. Frankly, I would prefer a green Christmas to a white one, but that doesn't happen too often around here.

Happy Wigilia Bozego Narodzenia to all!

BBOvenGuy- Your choir sounds wonderful. Thank you for sharing. :clap

Pillows- Congrats, sweetie I hope it all works out well for you... :love

Hmmm... My day has been, well, bagelicious so far. Fun with the selling of many, many bagels- Since the ungodly hour of 9 a.m. Now, I am of to my dad's family's Christmas supper and gift-stuff, then church, and then tomorrow to my parent's house, as we're having Christmas on my mom's side there this year. Whooooo boy, gonna love those "So, do you have a boyfriend?" questions. Wish I had a girlfriend (or maybe even a boyfriend, who knows, I'm sexually confused at the moment :spin ) to speak of and possibly show off to them ;) .

Take Care Everyone... Here's to the days finally getting longer again (for me, in central Canada anyways), loving those earthly cycles and rebirth in general...

So this day started out terribly when i missed my connecting flight last night and got stuck in VA. Prob is i had to be at work before the next flight left this morning, so my ex was very sweet and drove 3.5 hours in my car to pick me up. From there we drove straight to my work, where people were in an overall grumpy mood. But you know what...it's all good. It was so worth all of the aggravation to meet a certain kitten out west. You know who you are....Ta gra agam duit! With that in mind, I'd just like to wish everyone a happy holiday. For those of you who are having a crappy holiday so far...i hope it gets better. :peace :kiss :grin

The Clash ruled:clap . That's all you need to say.
"London Calling" was the timeless album of the 1980's except for the Pogues albums with Shane MacGowan as frontman.
Joe Strummer, a class act all the way and taken way to early from us as well.
Amen to the brilliant Kirsty McColl as well.
Will never forget her duet with Shane MacGowan on "Fairytale of New York."

taralicious,

I guess you and I are showing our age. I wonder which (if any) of the current "grunge" acts will attract the same respect as Joe and The Clash have. Anyway, it's back to work for me, and I've put "London Calling" into my CD Drive.

btw, did you know that Bob Geldof nominated three bands (from 3 different continents) as being responsible for changing music in the 1970s? The creative forces behind two of these bands (Joe Strummer from The Clash and Joey and Dee Dee Ramone) are now dead. The only survivors are the least well known - Chris Bailey and Ed Kuepper from The Saints. Though to be fair, as far as I know Mick Jones from The Clash is still going strong.

Bagheera- I listen or, more accurately, am forced to listen to a lot of these so-called big-name rock bands of today since the bar of the hotel I work at thumps them out constantly to draw in the college kids.
Iowa City being home to the University of Iowa so you get the college town atmosphere.
I, being a 35 year old guy, am surrounded by all of these college kids that work in the hotel and bar/restaurant and it makes me feel old.
I've become one of those guys that thinks that none of this music holds a candle to the burgeoning punk scene of the late 70's /early 80's before British New-Wave overtook the punk scene.
Give me The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Dead Kennedys(Jello Biafra, now there was another frontman for you), Big Audio Dynamite, and other luminaries of the British Punk scene anyday.
