It's 'Anywhere But Here' Friday, MKF! 11/22

Postby Dumbsaint » Fri Nov 22, 2002 6:33 am

Good morning, Kitties. This has been a rough week for a lot of us, but I've seen the Kitties pull through to help each other deal with their troubles. There's been big time Kitten love. And that's always a good thing. :)

So if you weren't able to come to the Kitten board, or Pens, or Whorelette Chat (hee) in order to soothe your sorrows, where would you go? If you could go anywhere... even just in your head? Willow said a cafe on the streets of Paris.

I think I'd pick a picnic in the English countryside with friends. And fresh bread with honey. And wine and cheese. And fruit. And jam tarts. And this new emoticon that brings a tear to my eye and a blush to my - er... cheek. :jho

:lol LOVE that new emoticon!! :grin On-topic, my 'safe haven' would either be a little village in Cornwall call Carantoc (i think that's how it's spelt!) or a small apartment in Bamburgh Castle! Failing that, sitting under a canopy of stars, overlooking the coast, siping white wine, and just listening to the sounds of nature...*sigh*

Have a good day and weekend Kittens!! :kiss

Lovely daily thread Julia :) And my, that picnic of yours certainly sounds appealing.

It's yet another grey, rainy and miserable day here in the good old U of K.

So I'm thinking, I'd like to be lounging on a beach, sandy of course, watching an impossibly blue sea rolling in, a bottle of ice cold Stella in my hand, with a few dozen more in an ice bucket next to me. And my closest friends by my side.

Actually, just stick me anywhere with my closest friends and that'd pretty much suit me fine. :)

Well I would say a nice lunch at a local restraunt with my honey, they have our favorite beer on tap and it's a nice place to hang out at for a couple hours. I can see it now, pick her up at the airport and whisk her off to the place. Have a few beers and some food before we lock ourselves in the house for the weekend and...

Oh wait, that's what we are going to do today, not what we would do if... nevermind... ;)

Great emoticon Jho, happy Friday Kittens.

Wow, I'd just thought of what I was going to post and noticed that BoredNow99 is actually my twin (unlucky there by the way.)

I'm also sat in grey and miserable UK and would rather be sat watching the sunset on a beach with my friends.

So to be more specific I'm going to say Camps Bay, nr. Cape Town and since BoredNow99 has drank all the Stella I'll settle for either an endless supply of cold Hoegaarden or a glass of Cabernet Merlot. ('cause I like to pretend I know my wine).

cheers!

Yes, no one like kittens to get you through the tough times and this week has called for much support for all kinds. Thanks kittens.

I love the beach and hotel rooms. Just last week I stayed in a hotel with a balcony with a view of the beach. Read a book, relaxed. Slept all night to the sounds of the waves crashing. Nice... nothing better. I love room service, I love hotels :grin That's my idea of a pretty good time.

As far as where in the world. I loved Endinburgh. I often dream of sitting around in the park or walking the rainy streets.

Bizarrely enough it's a lovely dry afternoon here, in what is usually the land of perpetual rain.

When I need a bit of peace I hop on my bicycle with a flask of coffee and a good book and go to the plains of the Curragh, in my home County of Kildare. It's wonderfully unpopulated and lonely, and eh, I sound very unsociable now, don't I? [img:fa4947010c]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/winkgreen.gif[/img:fa4947010c]

Hmm...If I had the choice to go anywhere to relax, I'd love to be in a beach in the Caribbean, catching up on my tan and sipping coktails. Alternatevely, I'd like to be back home in Greece, in a beach, sipping on a coktail and catching up on my tan...well, I'm predicatble!

Btw, I am never tasting Indian food as long as I live. I had this takeaway veggie dish yesterday, and woke up at 3.30 in the morning, with the grandady of all headaches anbd feeling violently sick...my bf got so worried he called an ambulance for me.

So now, in my mind, Indian Takeaway=EVIL.

It's foggy here in this part of CA and it looks cold outside. Any place I'd like to be? Um Tahoe in a nice cabin with a open fireplace, a bottle of red wine, snow on the mountain and my girlfriend by my side. *Sigh* too bad as I'm inside doing a philosophy project instead. Happy Friday kittens.

Right now, I have five guys on top of my house tearing off my roof. So, I'd like to be anywhere but here.

I'd like to be in Palm Springs, staying at a lesbian resort and hanging out by the pool, then taking the tram up to Mt. San Jacinto. Or having coffee in Carmel, then taking the 17-mile drive in a fast, nimble convertible. Or taking my mom to Disneyland/California adventure, so that she can ride California Screaming and Space Mountain over and over. (Mom likes thrill rides.) Or taking a road trip through California with my girlfriend, and stopping in the middle of nowhere to just enjoy the silence. Or lying on the beach in Florida, watching the sun setting over the Gulf.

Easy.

I would like to wake up (late) in my own bed at home in CA, have a leisurely cup of coffee, check on my rose bushes, play with the furbabies... then call DH and talk him into taking the afternoon off so we could go to Santa Barbara and hang out. Then after a nice dinner, we'd go see a movie, and then go home, and, um, fade to black. Yes, I am missing my Real Life (TM) after this disorienting staying-with-the-parents-finishing-grad-school thing. Sigh.

Of course, I also really love Whistler, BC, even though I'm not a skier. And I'm such a dork that I adore Disneyland and Disney World -- how much of a geek am I, that my husband and I are going to Orlando for three days after we graduate on Dec. 20th? Oh well, happy thought to look forward to.

Everyone has such lovely fantasies. And, [b:f01fbc448e]xita[/b:f01fbc448e], I think you hotel room with the view sounds so lovely. Mmm.

I would like to be in New York City (East or West Village) in a small apartment with Kenda, sipping coffee and at the computer, not needing to work today, one book published and having been published and working on my follow-up. It would be shining outside, bright and warm, and I would be well-rested and feeling super-creative.

Annecy, I don't think you're geeky.

My sister was married at Disneyland, and honeymooned at Disney World.

That's geeky.:wink

eta: while you're at Disney World this December, if you see a seventy-something woman sitting next to you when you're riding the Rockin' Roller Coaster, say hello. 'Cause that's probably my mom

Oh, it's all cold and windy and the snow's starting... ugh.

Ah, for the Beach in summer. Toronto's Beach, that is - quaint shops and cafes on Queen East, slow-moving streetcars and lots of conversation, charming compact neighbourhoods, the boardwalk... ahh. Balm for the soul.

Only a few more months! :happy

Great topic Julia. There does seem to be a lot of things going on at the moment and its been wonderful to see us pulling together and giving comfort where we can. That's why this is a community rather than just a Board.

As for where I'd go for comfort, to my best friend, no question. We've been through a lot and there's nothing we don't talk about. She's my santurary.

As for a place ... um ... can I be really boring and say home? Who am I kidding - I am boring. I love spending summer days with family and friends (and associated children) where we all meet up at someobody's place for a bar-be-que (or 'barbie' as they say it down under). Those are good days - lots of laughs and food.

I was so thinking of not being at work and where I would rather be. I was actually there this morning, last night and...
My sanctuary is definitly with the one with the sparkling personality laying in a hammock on Kalapani, just listenting to the waves and reading to her. But basically anyplace with her as long as we are alone, no phones, no people, no stuff just us...is it December 23 yet...

I'm in the mood for solitude. Somewhere surrounded by nature... preferably near a body of water... like Antico Borgo di Isola Santa, in the Lucca region of Tuscany. It's so beautiful there.

Instead I sit here in my padded cell. Fluorescent lights glaring down on my computer screen. :sigh

Well in this part of the UK we have had sun, yes indeed. In Newcastle today the sun was shining, it was freezing but it was still sunny and no rain, well until about 5pm then the sunset and the rain arrived.

So if I couldn't go to the kitten in my times of sorrow were would I go? I'd go to my willow tree, well technically it's not my tree. It grows by a river in a field which is part of my dad's farm, in the heart of robin hood country. When I was studying for my exams I used to go and sit there for hours. It is so peaceful there.

I can't really get there anymore though, now I live a couple of hundred miles away. I'm gald I can get to the kitten though. I got some very sad news on wednesday that my sister miscarried the baby. It's the second time this has happened to her. she had passed the all important 12 week mark, but alas it was not to be. The way this place pulls together during bad times really makes me proud to be part of it.

Hmmm, for me it would have to be a place that held peaceful memories not just peaceful surroundings:

I would sit on the bank of the Trinity River in northern California. The trees are tall, the sandy shore is warm, and the water is frigid.

Sometimes, you can get to the blackberries before the bears get them all.

Postby bowieinberlin » Fri Nov 22, 2002 12:09 pm

Well, now that I'm free of any responsibility and concerns until Dec. 2, I'm pretty much easing into a nice, relaxing week.

Of course, I'm a big people watcher, so I love being anywhere where the people are interesting. I remember I once had a day of boredom in Atlanta, so I just rode the MARTA all afternoon and watched people.

But I also love the beach, albeit only at night... I tend to sunburn beyond recognition if I go out during the day. But I love curling up in the nighttime sand with a nice, hairy, green bud. 'Cause you know, they say smoking pot creates a "false sense" of unity and oneness with the universe.

As for tonight, I'm really excited about a big band show at my friend's house. All the best local bands will be playing, and it's a benefit for our local food bank. That just makes me all shades of happy.

I also love Disney World, and Annecy, I may well be in MickeyLand the same time as you. I'll be in Orlando at the Contemporary (where else would this everything-'70s fan stay?) Dec. 16-21.

Ooh, I'm rambling. I'll shut the hell up now.

Happy Friday, Kittens.

I just, finally, finished my fic... which I will not name as I hate to plug...

It has been like... 13 months of writing... 19 since I started my first fic which had a kind of link to this one... and finally - apart from a small xmas project - I have like nothing to do!

I cannot decide if that is good or bad!

Its fitting it is Friday night when I post it though. Time, I think, for a whisky - to help with my cold - and bed.

Take care Kittens

Oh, Katharyn, you have me laughing. I have a sneaking suspicion that after 13 months of writing and 103 chapters, you probably don't actually have to include the name for everyone to know what story you're talking about. :wink

As for where I'd be if I were anywhere but here....hmm. I gotta say, since I'm work, that right now, I'd just rather be ANYWHERE but here. Sorry, Kittens, but I am short on insight today. I like everyone's ideas, though.

We were playing a game of 'Anywhere But Here' at work the other day. Mine was waterskiing naked with Angelina Jolie. Chilly at the time but lots of fun possibilities for warming up afterwards.:grin

Where I'd like to be now is enjoying the sunset in Rome with my best mate and a pint of Guinness. It was really, really bizarre but the last time I was in Rome we managed to find a good Irish pub. I think it's a sign of Ireland's secret bid for world domination.:eyebrow

Kalita, I may be just down the street from you in T.O. and now it's gone from rain mixed with snow to , sigh, snow. Altho it's melting when it hits the ground. For now. The Beaches Queen Street sanctuary sounds good but I think I might go for the Islands (Toronto's, that is ) and a nice spot by the lake with a view of the city. And a drink. And a companion.
But if I'm really dreaming I'll also take Paris, to check out the museums and the streets and the bridges and well, Paris. Or anywhere with an art gallery full or Seurats and Rothko's.
