Awesome. This girl is such a freakin professional. Would you go to a convention with the poeple that killed you off their show? AB is awesome.

Ha. That convention is just around the corner from my best friend's apartment. I drive past the Burbank airport on my three hour trek to and from visiting her.

Too bad I'm not the meet and greet type. But then, you couldn't pay me enough money now to stand in a room full of people who still love making and watching that show.

Amber is doing these appearances because she loves her fans, and she knows how much she and Tara mean to us. All of us here know this. She is truly a remarkable person. :heart

This is just one of those times I was already a California kitten. I don't have any vacation left, plus with purhcasing my ticket for the event in June, I am all out of cash. Oh well, maybe next time.

I've emailed the committee running this Retreat, seeing if I can volunteer (so I can get in for free). Fortunately, I have over a decade of experience working cons to draw upon.

Are there still Kitten t-shirts for sale? I usually wear a XXL (or as SF fans say, "fannish small." :) )

You know, it's events like this that make me sad that I live in New York. Maybe I should move out to California. Yeah, that's going on my "things to do" list for sure.

A bump for this which in at the part dated 10/15/02
www.fanshoot.com/retreat/notice.html
It states they might have to cancel or reschedule. Not enough sign ups and their financial backing is thinking of pulling out.

I would have loved to go to this. What is more galling is that I will be in Santa Barbara the week before, but I fly back to the UK on the 12th. Life can be a sod at times :(

Ok, it appears that people don't feel like attending to this thing.
Strange, with such a cool interesting lineup (for Buffy and Angel fans anyway :) ).
I'm wondering if the hotel deals isn't a part of it. $100 or $200 isn't that much for a weekend event, but the hotel is _very_ pricey.

Seeing this announcement got me wondering if something like this might happen to Moonlight-Rising. They have a great hotel deal, but the visual effect of the very expensive tickets is likely to turn away alot of people, IMHO.

My guess is that it has more to do with lack of advertising.

The only place I've ever seen any word about this event is here and on the Essence of Amber board.

The Watchers Retreat CANCELLED!

Postby Katharyn » Thu Oct 17, 2002 6:56 pm

Just a word of caution here for both this and the Catskills thing where this has been mentioned as well. Whispers of a failure can become a self-fulfilling prophecy as it stops people from having faith in it and spending their money - hence it does fail. Just look at the stock markets for how that works.

Whilst Watchers Retreat might not happen by their own admission I don't think it is fair to translate even [b:7f1abbef8d]wondering[/b:7f1abbef8d] publically about the financial viability of any other convention from this event.

To do so can create an environment which contributes to the failure and that just hurts the people who want to go.

Katharyn - still jealous...

The Watchers Retreat CANCELLED!

Postby LostSoul » Fri Oct 18, 2002 4:13 am

[b:2854200872] Katharyn[/b:2854200872] - Good point. I think there is already a tremendous amount of evidence that Moonlight is going to be awesome, especially with people like Aria and Rosey running it.

I don't think everyone should assume that the Watcher's Retreat will be cancelled. They said there was a chance.

[b:2854200872] But what's more important to think about is that if it isn't cancelled, you stand to hold a ticket for a much lesser event than you thought you 'd be going to![/b:2854200872]

So, if we all want the event to come off as planned with ALL of the announced guests, we need to get out there in the next couple of days and create some interest.

They've reduced the prices. So, if you want to come out for just one day, it's quite affordable.

Yes, I'm talking it up a bit. But, that's because I'm going and would hate to think that they had to drop Amber or James because they didn't have the cash to keep all of the guests.

So, I look at it as supporting Amber more than anything.

Yeah they are threatening that and well I would think they would have a riot if they took either of those guests away. I am hoping they mean some of the lesser guests.

Also, dont' be scared by the prospect of losing your money, they'll take a deposit of sorts to just guarantee your spot.

I want this happen too! ANd yes I am going so I am biased.

YAY! Xita!

I'll see you there! Although I don't think I'll have bottled water and chocolate this time. Well, maybe chocolate. :)

I already cashed in Hilton points to stay at the hotel, so I totally want this to happen.

I'm confident that we can drum up the interest to keep this thing from getting cancelled.

It should be getting posted on all boards, esp ones with interest in james and amber.

So far I know of 4 kittens including you and I that are going. I am not staying at the hotel because it is too close to where I live.. 15 minutes really. So it would be kinda silly but I plan on being around as much as possible those few days.

So YAY, I'll see you there :)

Anyone else want to come out of hiding for this one?

They have 25 dollar a day passes now.
