In August of 2004, I went to Wizard World Chicago for two reasons. Number 1, Amber was gonna be there (Yes, I'm an Amberholic), and 2, Joss was gonna be there.
Amber was there the whole weekend, and she was signing at the Inkworks booth. The Inkworks booth was right near the front doors. She was signing on Friday and Saturday if I remember correctly. Maybe she was signing the whole weekend, I can't remember I'd have to dig out my program. There was a huge line on Friday, and they had capped it off by the time I got there so I wasn't able to get anything signed.
I waited until the line was gone and she was packing up, and I went up to talk to her. I asked her if I could talk with her for a minute, and she stopped what she was doing. She stopped just so I could talk with her! I told her that I really wanted to get in line earlier, and she told me when she'd be back the next day, she also said she'd keep an eye out for me.
The next day, I got there right when everyone was lining up, and I still had to wait an hour and some change for everyone else go through the line. When I got up there, her Mom was selling copies of Chance, and she asked me if I'd like one. I told her I already had one at home. Then we talked while waiting for the people in front of me to finish talking with Amber.
I finally got up there, and she was so nice. She remembered me, which meant a lot because I've had the same experience with other actors I've met at different cons, and they just never cared to remember me. I had told her how Tara was my favorite character, and how it really, really hurt when Tara died (I cried for hours after. I still do sometimes just going through webpages or music videos.) She apologized to me about it and touched my arm. I also told her how much I had liked Chance and we talked about that for a while. She even asked questions about me! She was geniunely interested. We ended up talking for about 20 minutes before the security guard told us we should let the other people get through. She signed this great Willow and Tara card I bought the day before, and she also gave me a glossy photo of herself which she also signed. She didn't charge anything for the autographs or the photo (A rarity at conventions). I got my picture taken with her, she hugged me, and that was it.
It was so cool. She's such an amazing person. She really cares about her fans, and wants them to be happy. I hope I get another chance to meet her again. Hopefully the next time she'll do a panel too!
