General Amber & Aly tidbit thread

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

Re: General Amber & Aly tidbit thread

Two things to bear in mind:

1) This is just one interview out of all the interviews Amber has done in which she has expressed support for W/T. Should we really start slamming Amber on the basis of just one interview?

2) Anyone who's ever given an interview knows that you can have the experience of opening a newspaper or magazine and reading words you never said, or words you did say taken grossly out of context or somehow ‘remixed’. This happens a lot – much more than the average reader would suspect – as anyone who has had any dealings with the media will tell you. I would not be very surprised if they had somehow ‘misinterpreted’ what Amber had to say.

Frankly, I would expect people on this board to have a bit more scepticism about the magazine and to give Amber the benefit of the doubt, especially given that she has never expressed anything other than total support for the W/T relationship in every other frickin’ interview she’s ever given.

Christopher Golden has publically criticised Tara's death and what happened in season 7 in online interviews and in postings on his official message board so I would definitely consider him an ally.

I too feel like I have lost an ally in Amber. I feel like a patient who is in Doctor Amber's care. She knows I am in pain, knows there is a wound but seems to either not know or not care to know how extensive the wound is or what exactly caused it. I feel Amber empathises rather than understands the position we are all in.

I have re-read the interview, trying to see it from a diplomatic point of view, trying to see where Amber understands the fan's point of view, over and above the fact that the character died, and I cannot.

It seems obvious that she does not know the full extent of the anger over Tara's death. It's not just that the character was killed, but that it in fact did NOT serve any storyline other than to create a Big Bad for Buffy to defeat for the finale. By the time it happened, there was no grandiose scheme, no poignant statement about the misery addiction can cause because they had done away with that storyline long before it. Tara's death was to bring in a Big Bad. Period.

Amber: I know you sometimes lurk on this board so I hope you might read this. I get the distinct impression that you empathise with rather than understand the anger. I hope you will take the time to fully understand why the argument still persists even now. Why Joss is considered to be a liar and a traitor and a coward by myself and others. You are a bright, intelligent and compassionate person and I respect you for who you are. I also respect you for wishing to stand by friends and that you are in a difficult position of not being able to speak your mind without alienating either work opportunities or fans. But I cannot help but feel a little betrayed and let down by your all-too-easy dismissal of Joss' betrayal.

TARA AND WILLOW 2GETHER 4EVER!!! BLESSED BE ETERNALLY!!!

That interview with Amber was very interesting. I haven't read many of her other interviews, thus I can't comment as to how this one compares to others.

yes I too feel ambers speaking her mind here, which does kinda hurt, there is a distinct difference between bad mouthing and not supporting a story line and I wished she chosen not too do so. I think ppl here are making way too much about how much Joss can hurt her, I believe thats overestimating the 3 strikes and out producer, and attrributing too much pettyness (not saying hes not petty, just not that petty). Needless to say Ambers human, says things maybe she regrets later yada yada, I have a feeling some time down the track she may in fact slam Joss, when shes successful and hes not ;)

Old Aly interview

Postby tyche » Fri May 21, 2004 7:54 pm

This interview is from 1999, and it's translated from French, which is why there are some oddities in it.

Quote:
From Colba.net

Have you ever thought of becoming an actress when you was a little kid?

No, really not. When I was at the primary school I was always freaked out when I had to go to the black board. I never arrived there. I stuttered the whole time and it always ended with a bad mark. The cameras attracted me, but I never felt able to be an actress. One day, my parents submitted me to take part in a casting for an advertisement. I took part in it immediately, because there was no text. I went there in my cords! (laughs) Later I took part in some other advertising roles. I took it as a pastime, a hobby, which I practised every Wednesday and Saturday. After a long time I beared down my shyness and then I became an actress. However, I never thought, that I was able to make a career with it.

There was a rumour, that you didn’t got the role of Willow first.

The first time I heard something about “Buffy”was, when my agent said to me: I have a role for you in ’Buffy the vampire slayer’. The only problem is, that the casting is already over.” (Laughs) My agent was convinced, that the role of Willow was only for me, and wanted, that I met the producers of Buffy. Unfortunately, the casting was over and an actress was chosen. But the producers of Buffy decided a few months later, while shooting the pilot, that they wanted an other actress for the role of Willow. They wanted to replace her. I was invited to an other casting and, after a few days, I was told, that the role was mine. So I was dedicated after all the others.

There is really an old Buffy episode, in which you can see all present actors, but you.

That’s true. I watched it a long time ago. I think, that it wasn’t on TV ever. It was something like a test. Finally they decided to shoot an other pilot. The actress, who played Willow, wasn’t similar to me. She was brownhaired and rather roundish.

It seems, that your beginning wasn’t this simple.

All actors and technicians were very nice to me. But I had problems with Julie Benz, who played Darla. She wasn’t nice to me. Still today I do not understand why she behaved in such a way. She is really one of the worst persons I have ever met. It was the first time that I had a such important role, I was intimidated and wanted myself to integrate in this team well. But this woman did not have the smallest indulgence. She didn’t end to make unfriendly remarks to me. I often wanted to cry.

How is your relationship with Nicholas Brendon, who plays the Xander?

Nicholas is really a good friend. But contrary to what I read in magazin, I didn’t fall in love with him. (laughs) He is very nice, but he is not my type. He makes a lot of fitness training and it’s visible slowly. I do not like to much muscles. I said it to him.

At present there are some rumours about your love life. It seems like you have a new boyfriend.

Oh, an indiscrete question...I would say, that I go out with Alexis Denisof (Wesley Wyndham-Price in the series) since the beginning of this year. We try to see us as often as possible, what isn’t simple, because he works at night and I at the day.

Not so long ago, “Buffy” caused a scandal in the USA because of a homosexual relationship between Willow and an other girl.

In the fourth season Willow really has a relationship with a girl named Tara. Many people were shocked. We received many complains. Honestly, I don’t understand it. " The relationship between Willow and Tara established slowly in circa ten episodes. It didn’t happened in the middle of the season to grab attention. Those, who were shocked, did not follow the fourth relay attentively. I find these reactions absurd and exorbitant. I think, that you are able to speak freely about homosexuality on TV in this age.

In nearly every "Buffy" episode Willow is confronted with bloodthirsty demons. Did you have some paranormal experiences?

No, but like many young teenagers I was attracted by phenomena when I was at high school. My best friend and I were totally fallen in love with two boys, and we heard rumours about magic candles. You were told, that you only had to light them up and to speak a magic spell to make boys fall in love with you. We tried, but it didn’t work...but we didn’t indicate a exact date, on which they had to fall in love with us. Perhaps the spell will work soon...

Hi, i found this in the UK issue #61 of the Buffy magazine not sure if it has been mentioned, but there is an interview with Marti Noxon where people wrote into the magazine and asked her questions..thought this one may be of interest.....

Question-Why couldn't Tara be the first? Buffy said the first could be any dead person,so why couldn't it be Tara?

Marti Noxon-We wanted Amber,but she wasn't available.

Tara was supposed to be the First at one point.

A little inside scoop is that all the stuff with Alyson Hannigan was supposed to be with Amber Benson but Amber wasn't available,so we went in a different direction.

hope you didn't mind me posting and this was posted in the right place

Picked up Nick magazine for May 2004 (I have kids...)

Aly is featured in their section on what they sing in the shower. Aly, listed as just "Actress" that is no TV show mentioned unlike the others on the same page, likes Christina Augleria.

Trying to wrap my mind around the picture of Aly in the shower singing like that...hmmm....bad place to go. ;)

You know, I've read over that interview with Amber a bunch of times, and I am not sure I agree that she is not being fair. In fact, when you combine that with other interviews I think she is being both diplomatic and correct. See, she has stated that JW had told her nearly a year and a half before that he was going to Kill Tara. Which means two things: (1) That Amber had 18 months to get ready to be essentially written out of the show, and (2) That she had 18 months to plan for what she would do once she was off the show. You know that no one in the entertainment industry is going to sit and wait for 18 months and not plan. So Amber did, and she managed to get things to do and she went and did them. And then, of course, ME said cmon back- but she couldn't any more because she had planned her career past that point.

I'm just sorry she can't come back, ever, and nothing can ever be done to fix S6 and 7.

Re: Aly tidbits

Postby Warduke » Thu Jun 03, 2004 9:26 am

You seem to be defending her choice not to come back in season 7, which is not what some people had a problem with. We all admire her for not coming back and her reasons for doing so. What some of us had a problem with was her words about certain storylines in season 7.

I for one am very happy she moved on and didn't go back. I can only imagine the crap he would have had her do if she had gone back.

Now moving on from that, what does Aly sing in the shower Tim? :hmm

She sings Christina Augleria songs. That is all the article said.

Of course the same one informed us that Steve Buscemi likes to sing Led Zeppelin songs. Trying to get the image of "Mr. Pink" in the shower belting out "The Immigrant Song".

Heck, Warduke, I don't even wanna imagine! I can't go there. I just hope that Amber can get the funding to bring Watchful Eyes to completion. Time for some fund raising!

Anyway, I meant no harm there. :-)

Anyone got any word on NBC revamping Americana? Did they ever film more than the pilot (which could mean that they could use it in the middle of the season when other new programs fall by the wayside). I am surprised that Aly does not yet have any firm deals for either new movies or for a tv program- and she is done now with her stage gig. What next for my fave actor (well, one of two, Amber being the other)?

Oh they´ve dusted off Edward Furlong, good, I liked him in T2. He´s one lucky dude, getting to work with Linda Hamilton *and* Amber Benson. I hope this will be better than Taboo, that should not be a problem, but you never know. I will watch it no matter how good or bad it may be, because of Edward of course.
