Amber tonight (8/12/04) on WGN-AM Chicago

Postby emma peel » Thu Aug 12, 2004 1:20 pm

Mods, I'm not sure where to put this, so please feel free to move. It's from the Essence of Amber:

"Just a quick note to let you know that Amber will be joining us live, tonight, on Chicago's WGN Radio (720-AM). Our show starts after the 11-PM news (Central Time) and Amber will be joining us around 11:30. If you're not able to pick up WGN's over the air signal, you can listen in on line at http://www.wgnradio.com. You can also join in the conversation by calling 312-591-7200.

This is our first time meeting Amber, in person, and we're really looking forward to it.

Hope you'll join us.

Steve King & Johnnie Putman/WGN-AM, Chicago"

Here it is the link from WGN.

wgnradio.com/guests/index.htm

Quote:

11:30pm Steve & Johnnie: Steve & Johnnie will be joined in studio by Gareb Shamus, CEO of Wizard Entertainment Group, to discuss the Chicago Wizard World Convention which will be taking place Aug. 13-15 at the Rosemont Convention Center. Amber Benson, Tara from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will also be in studio. A couple of comic creators who will be attending the event may also be able to join us.

It would be nice to get a transcript of that.

To listen online you need RealPlayer.

Keep in mind that the "Rosemont Convention Center" is what old time Chicagoans still call the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center.

Idle thoughts...

I'm listening to it now...glad to hear Amber give a quiet shout-out to the Kitten.

For the record, the "Ben" who called was not, I repeat, not me.

And hey, somebody just called and plugged Chance and Ghosts of A.

Amber was the first to mention Willow & Tara as one of the first long-time lesbian couples on TV and her pride in that.

ETA: Wait a minute. Am I crazy, or did the recent FCC ruling have everything to do with Buffy & Spike violent sex and nothing to do with Willow & Tara lovey sex? Because they just said it was the latter. Off to investigate...

ETA, again: Yeah, just double-checked the press release. Boy, that's murkily written, but it sure looks like the "lesbian sex" they're talking about was on Will & Grace (Glenn Close dry-humping Grace) and not anything to do with W&T. Proof yet again that DJs are the lowest form of intelligence...

Amber comments on a rumor

Postby Dana5140 » Fri Aug 13, 2004 6:46 am

From her radio interview last night, on being asked about marrying someone named Steve- I think this came up because TV Tome stated that she was going to marry Adam Busch, which I think would be a surprise to her...after this, too bad I'm married, 'cause I'd have that rock over to her immediatamento! :-)

>>The way she says "who's Steve?" is so cute.

I'm just going to transcribe this part:

Guy: Ben, thanks for holding on:

Ben: How you doing?

Guy: Good

Ben: Hi Amber

Amber: Hi! How are you?

Ben: Pretty good, how are you?

Amber: Um A little tired.

Ben: Yeah, it's pretty late where you are, huh?

Amber: Yea, and i've been in the car all day, so...

Ben: Oof, so..um, how's everything?

Amber: *laughs* pretty good

Lady: Let's cut to the chase, you have a personal question you want to ask Miss Amber, right?

Ben: Indeed. Ah, there's a rumor going on that says that you and your boyfriend, you know, Steve, is about to get married, is that true?

Lady: Don't break his heart, be gentle, okay Amber?

Amber: Who's Steve?

Laughter all around

Lady: well i think that answers that question Ben.

Ben: What? I missed it, what was that?

Lady: Who's Steve?

Ben: uh

Lady: I mean, she's kind of, you should see the look on her face, she's baffled by this whole idea that she's about to get married. So i think that answers-

Amber: Is he good looking? Am I happy? *laughs*

Lady: he's rich too.

Amber: really?

Lady: I think that answers your question.

Ben: Oh, i'm sorry, Adam. My mistake.

Amber: Ohh, no, I'm not getting married, I'm-

Ben: You're not getting married?!

Amber: No, i'm not, i'm never getting married.

Ben: You're never getting-

Amber: Are you married?

Ben: No I was like, wait wait, Amber-

Amber: We should get married.

Ben: Oh really! You know what, I'm gonna go get the ring right now, I'll see ya at-

Amber: Get me a rock and we'll talk!

Lady: Thank you Ben. Depending on where Ben is, he may be outside the door with the ring by the end of the show. >>

thanks for taking my transcribe, really appreciate it.

some funny lines from Amber during the interview:

"i can take them out!" (when the lady commented on how nice and big her eyes were)

"i molested a banana" (her deleted scene from Can't Hardly Wait)

"it looks like I have a shelf and a drink down there, i'm stacked!" (on how they make her seem more "boxum" on buffy merchandise)

"I try, try and try to be indecent, but I just can't" (about FCC passing a ruling that Buffy was in face not indecent)

oh and of course "get me a rock and we'll talk!"

there are more but I forget rite now, it was a great interview though.

It's fine, it's just sometimes it's nice to get credit. Even just a little "posted by Angela627" is nice cause I did take the time to type it out.

News, hmm... Chance may be in theaters early next year. But Essence people already know that.

I have most of the interview recorded, i kinda stopped recording when it wasn't Amber talking, and then my feed cut off when Tara got on so I only got half of her conversation. But I could try to transcribe what I have, it'll take a while though, and I'd probably only be able to do it sometime next week. If people are willing to wait that long.

It was Angela who transcribed the talk

Postby Dana5140 » Fri Aug 13, 2004 2:35 pm

Um, if not too late, props to Angela627 for transcribing the talk with Amber on my old hometown radio WGN. Credit where it's due! :-)

Hope a lot of kittens are meeting and greeting Amber at the Wizard World over at the Rosemont (we who lived there for so many years will never call it the Donald Stephens Center; it is the Rosemont Horizon). It's a huge facility. It is not in Chicago, but in Rosemont, just off O'Hare Airport. Chicago downtown is around 12 miles away.

Alyson Hannigan quote in current Premiere Magazine

Another female lead in the film, Jennifer Lewis, quit acting after 1998's Pleasantville to focus on a career in music--now she is the lead singer of the seriously buzzing band Rilo Kiley."

Re: Aly on Alexis

Postby DaffyQDuck » Wed Feb 02, 2005 5:53 pm

From "Ask Ausiello" in TVGuidedotcom--

Question: What has Alexis Denisof been up to since Angel went off the air? — Jennifer

Ausiello: Let's ask his wife, Veronica Mars guest star Alyson Hannigan: "He is experiencing his very first pilot season," she told me on the telephone last week, "which is really cute. Because he came out here and basically just booked things, which led to him being on Buffy and then on Angel. There are all these casting directors out there who have never met him." Aly says she's trying to convince her hubby to "go for comedy because he's very funny, but he's more secure with the one-hour drama. I'm like, "Come on, honey — just try the comedy." (Look for more from my interview with Hannigan in the next AA.)

amber mention

http://popmatters.com/columns/horn/050818.shtml

Until recently, I had never been a slacker. I took summer school classes. I held part-time jobs as a teenager, and I worked full-time since my college graduation. That is, until about six months ago. I stood aloft a chair and proclaimed in the grandest, most poorly done imitation of Shakespeare possible, "Take thy high thread count sheets and meaty grub / Luxury? Not for I. Bring merriment."

Still, a girl's gotta pay her TiVO bill. Enter the McJob, defined by Douglas Coupland in Generation X as "a low-pay, low-prestige, low-dignity, no-future job in the service sector." Yes, I can define "ironic" on the spot and then turn around and deliver a perfect half-caf, percent latte with one pump of mocha syrup while tweaking my logo baseball cap playfully askew and offering a friendly wink. "Enjoy your beverage and have a great day, Sir!" I wonder -- if I stuck the milk steamer in my ear, would my head explode? That would be poetically awesome.

Because my barista gig is located in a historic Hollywood strip mall (I'm not kidding) across the street from the soundstage that birthed television masterwork, Blossom ("Whoa!"), I brush fame while delivering the perfect blended mocha. In fact, just the other day I prepared a shaken iced tea for Veronica Portillo, star of countless Real World / Road Rules Challenge shows. She and I graduated from UC Berkeley in the same class. Oh, what a poignant sighting to have in my very first week at the coffee house. Touché, fate, touché.

The customer-friendly hours do fly by, punctuated with playful conversations with co-workers about which of the clientele are famous. I get to be a fly on the wall brewing the morning joe for the crew of Six Feet Under, while the chick who played Eve in the last season of Angel talks to a casting agent over espresso drinks. It's like I crawled into a crappy TV Guide Channel talk show and now inhabit it for 30 hours a week...but with lots of coffee. If only those miserly bastards at corporate would let us install IMDb terminals at the cash register, I might actually think more about the coffee than placing random faces into the TV shows of yore.

One of the perils of living and working in Hollywood is the dangerous blurring of reality and fiction. About a month after a terrible storm, it was raining on several TV shows. Packs of old ladies swarm the local malls wearing, "I Went on Down and Hugged Bob!" t-shirts with unmistakable The Price is Right nametags adorning them. Any event held at the Kodak Theatre does horrible things to traffic, forcing me to ask myself, "How did it come to be that my life is affected by the ESPYs?"

Yes, an existence in Hollywood can become one big post-modern joke. Throughout the airing of 24's last few episodes, I found myself diving into the bushes every time a plane flew overhead. I just knew it was that stolen missile, finally set free by the hands of those terrorists. In reality, it was actually just another news chopper flying north to get coverage of Michael Jackson's trial. Recently cancelled Fox crime drama, The Inside featured a serial killer that hunts down victims by watching happy couples leave the Vista Theatre, a movie house that I visit with regularity. When walking out of there the other day, I whispered to my husband, "Don't look idyllic -- he'll get us" before I remembered that TV isn't real. But that's not going to stop me from finding Sydney Bristow's secret base hidden in a Metro Station.

My fellow baristas are not as weirded out by Hollywood life as I am. Back in my hometown, they're still talking about the 1972 shoot for American Graffiti at the local diner. Most of my co-workers are from Hollywood, and are therefore genetically pre-determined to be uninterested in celebrities -- unless said famous person is hot and/or in a band. I am the only dork trying to figure out in what episode of Quantum Leap "iced old-school Americano with two Splendas" guest starred. I suppose this is why I'll never get past the velvet ropes at the Tropicana Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (a nearby scalding hotspot). What would I say? "Oh my god, I loved your work as 'Drunk Teen 2' last season on The O.C.! By the way, were you really drunk, or just acting?"

I'm a television fanatic and genuinely enchanted by seeing the actress who played Willow's girlfriend, Tara, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer eating a sandwich, and not just because Amber Benson has lovely skin. What can I say? I'm white trash and this is what my people do. My sister will gladly tell you all about the time that Joey Lawrence (again --"Whoa!") hit on her at a New Year's Eve party in Lake Tahoe. My other sister has boasted that Tony Hawk's son is her six-year-old daughter's boyfriend ever since her family was invited by Hawk's ex-wife, (who knew my sis in high school) to stay in one of their houses and get celebrity passes to Disneyland. My niece doesn't particularly care about the pedigree of her kindergarten boyfriend, but give her time -- she's of my ilk.

Despite my fascination with celebrities, I don't consider myself the starfucker type. I don't want anything out of them other than authentication that they exist in another form besides the one I've seen on television. Within me is a desperate drive to strip the glamour from that which I am so enchanted. It relieves me to see that, despite being the villain on most of her MTV turns, Veronica Portillo is just another moderately polite woman seeking a cold beverage on a hot, smoggy Los Angeles afternoon. I remember the casting call in Berkeley that led to her 'discovery'. For a fleeting moment I considered trying out, but I knew then, as I know now, that the entire fabric of my universe would collapse if I were the critiqued rather than the critic.

I adore Alyson. That laugh is adorable. They never ask her very interesting questions though. Carson Daly is a dweeb! And a note to her husband, buy the girl some damn diamonds. I know I would.

P.S. Culzean, thanks for the heads up on this one.
As one, they turn to the soda machine. It flies back into the door like a cannonball. Willow looks at it, at Tara. She doesn't let go of her hand.

I was not acquainted with Carson Daly at all (never saw the show before), but the interview was pleasant enough:

-- I wonder who the "Best Friend" was that arranged the Bachelorette Party? (Is AH an Elvis fan?)

-- I forgot that really funny line from HIMYM "You'll get on anything!" :lol :lol

-- The new movie should be hilarious. It'll be worth it just to see Aly in a "fat suit" :lol

There is a wonderful new and lengthy article and interview with Amber in the magazine Sirens of Cinema, which I found totally by accident while browsing at Barnes and Noble today- lots of good stuff, and some of it more technical with regard to her directorial efforts. We've seen the pics before, but they are really well produced. I highly recommend.

I saw an ad for BTVS magazine the other day with Aly on the cover.

Alyson Hannigan on her new TV show, and life after Buffy!

So many actors from old genre TV shows disappear completely from TV and movies, with the exception of occasional guest appearances on other genre shows, so it's great to see both Aly and Amber in demand and working on different types of TV shows and movies.

WARNING: The site's not work safe (there's nekkid girls on it someplace, Amber actually mentions it during the interview). The interview's a little short, but a good read.
