Amber's film TABOO

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

bought this turkey at blockbusters last night and watched it

amber was GREAT - and I'm not even going to bitch about the money it cost me to but this thing because hey amber in anything is worth the price. she actually tried to do something with the part - the rest of the movie was amazingly awful and the other performances were just phoned in. These folks should turn in their guild cards if thats what they think passes for a script/direction/acting

Hard to believe this movie got aired at sundance but not Chance.

All I could think while watching it was - who ever paid for it should have invested in ambers movie instead - she could have done so much more with the money they wasted on this thing.

all i have to say is that this movie would have been decent if they'd had better dialogue. the actors are ok in their roles but the dialogue is just soooooooo bad... i cant believe that script was even greenlit.

"Take care of my heart, won't you please? Take care of it because it's all that I have. And if you let me, I'll take care of your heart too." Pure sweetness in the look between Willow and Tara.

Yay! Mine just came today. It's about freaking time, too.

The other copy I had; the sound would keep getting out of synch with the picture so I had to keep taking it out, putting it back in and then FF back to where I was. But it was to see Amber, so it was worth it :grin .

Heh, I have a hunch the picture will be clearer this time around too.

yannow, i had that thought, too, hip and rane--how the heck did this script get greenlit, much less make it to sundance? and...didn't amber say she went on location to romania or something to make this movie? why in the world would you have to go to romania to shoot this when the whole film is set indoors? :confused

amber is cute as always, but i think most kittens would be satisfied by just downloading the clips, posted earlier in this thread, that someone made of just the amber/piper parts. i don't think you'll miss much plot...:p favorite part? when amber chases eddie kaye thomas into the bedroom, and the shot of the leather collar hitting the ground, the guy going "omigod," and amber kicking the door shut with her foot. :party

(heh. actually i was confused enough by the narrative flow of the first half of the movie that i am convinced the whole thing must have been drastically edited or something. kinda like recent episodes of the show which shall not be named.

oops. did i say that out loud? :fallen )

Postby LeatherQueen » Sat Feb 22, 2003 1:11 pm

Well, I got my copy and watched it last night. Amber was scrumptious! Other than that, however, most of the other actors were spectacularly horrible. :lol

Loved Amber's parts though. God that woman looks great. And the dog collar! :grin That was lovely.

But what was up with that paper crown? :|

I have to agree. I saw the movie last night and thought that Amber did great, but the others were horrid.

Hey...I was stunned at the part where she was getting all man handled. lol

I was able to find the only copy in the video store and I have to say that this movie was truly awful. Amber does the best she can and so does Lori Heuring, for that matter, but everyone else really seems to be going through the motions. January Jones, poor girl, seems completely ill-equipped to carry a movie. I thought her best work was in the hallway where she combed her fingers through her hair and pretended to let the fallen hair loose. And Nick Stahl, who did really wonderful work in "In the Bedroom" was quite lackluster as the male lead. It was as if he was conveying to the audience that all he really wanted was a free trip to Romania. As for Eddie Kaye Thomas, who I happen to like, I kept looking at him and wondering if he was of age. He looked twelve for goodness sake. Blah. Again, Amber was fantastic. Her character was so unlike anything she's played that it was refreshing. It's just a shame the script was confusing and the editing was so shotty. Yeah, and how ironic it was that Nick Stahl's character's name was "Christian." So very funny. I felt as though so much was left out. I know as an audience, we're supposed to suspend our disbelief, but this was too much. If you wanna see Amber, rent the movie, but if you're expecting a good story, prepare yourself for a huge disappointment.

What I can't figure out is why the hell they even needed to leave the country to shoot that since it was all interiors with the exception of repeated shots of rain on that house. And dear God. A horror movie that is not even remotely scary. Plus I wanted everyone of those pretentious little self centered twerps to die. And it was so low budget that was almost always done off camera. LOL.

I knew it was a bad sign when the DVD started playing with Japanese subtitles by default. How in the world did this get accepted at Sundance? Plus I took issue with the idea that homosexuality was a perversion right up there with sleeping with your brother, whoring, and rape. ACK.

Were the interiors of a real house? Perhaps they wanted that particular locale, either way it does seem a bit far out the way to go even for those reasons since there must be a place like that in a country the size of the USA.

Autumn, that was exactly my thought as well. Romania... for this?! Huh. And I think the only reason it got into Sundance is because the director had a well received film there the year before. Which to me would indicate Sundance is going downhill if they are just taking films from people who's films they liked before instead of on the films merits.

Hm, I have a strange liking for the film. One of those bad movies you love to watch kind of feeling.

lol Ah well, Amber looked good at least... except for that horrid... nevermind :read

Postby CaptMurdock » Sat Mar 01, 2003 12:00 pm

I rented the DVD last night, ignoring the rolling eyes of Mrs. CaptMurdock.

So, let me get this straight: Sundance passed Chance over for this? What, is the director sleeping with Redford? If so, I'da thought Bob had better taste in bed partners.

And speaking of sleeping your way in, that is the only way I see January Jones got her foot in the door. The Angel of Talent came nowhere near this girl. She couldn't carry this picture with a forklift. At least Lori Heuring seems to be throwing herself into her part with some vigor.

Storywise, it's a mess. Nevermind the whole homosexual thing, gosh, right-wing much? But Nick Stahl participates in a threesome with Amber and LH (offscreen -- I'm not sure I'm glad of that or not) and he dumps Amber for JJ? Gimme a break.

Why are these people even friends? With friends like these, who needs enemas? This plot has holes bigger than the Hellmouth.

Now to the good stuff: AMBER. :drool Be still, my shorts. I wish they had given her more to do with her character (I wanted to bitch-slap JJ when she cuts Amber off during the "what have you been doing with yourself" group scene). And her in the nightie and the dog collar/belt. :party Pity the shower scene was such a downer...and that shower curtain -- that thing could block gamma rays!

CaptMurdock's Recommendation: Rent this sucker. Once. Copy all Amber scenes onto another tape. Feed the rest to a dog you don't like.

Well, I seem to be in the minority (or all alone, it seems) since I kinda liked the film. But, I do have a penchant for weird, bad films. I won't comment on the Sundance angle, since it would just make me mad. But I did enjoy watching the bad acting, listening to the bad writing, seeing the bad camera angles, and following the bad plot twists.

I will say that I loved Amber in this movie (well, DUH). I just really liked her portrayal of the character. Perpetually tipsy Amber is pretty fun to watch. That made it all worthwhile for me.

This flick reminded me a lot of Clue: The Movie. If you liked the hokeyness of that one, you may like this one. Although Clue was much MUCH better.

Ok, Taboo is not the worst movie I've seen. I watched it and liked a lot of it ok. I thought January Jones was the worst thing about it , especially because she was carrying the movie. Her turn from naive, innocent to manipulative bitch didn't materialize to me, she just acted the same so there was no real hint of being devious.

I loved Amber in this. I loved her drunk, that amused me a lot especially later when you take into account that the character was pretending to be drunk. Also Amber was a bit aggressive here, I liked it, I guess my favorite scene is when she comfronts January Jones with the whole threesome thing.

I also enjoyed Lori Heuring was chewing the scenery. I enjoyed her character. It could have been better, but it wasn't a complete waste of 2 hours. I was pleased with the amount of Amber, I'll always remember watching The Prime Gig :

Nope just 81 minutes. :) Oh. you were talking about the extra time you took to rewind Amber's scenes. ;) Sure, could have been worse, but was I not an Amber fan there was nothing going for it IMHO. Especially if it was supposed to be horror. Amber was definitely the bright spot and I was glad to see her get a primo spot in the credits - the last with the "and Amber Benson" which means she was considered to be higher up on the food chain than most of them.

And margaritas.

I was also thinking about why they filmed this in Romania (I haven't seen it yet, but my other half has, and he thought Amber was good, but the film was abysmal) and I've come to the following conclusion: it's cheaper to film there than in the States.

I watched this film this past weekend. It was....um....not the best film I've ever seen. It would have been a lot better if the lead, January Jones, wasn't played by whoever that actress was. How did she get the part? She really cannot act, so how in the world did she get the lead? They way she "yelled" help in the cellar and the way she was like "how dare you" and slapped the "rapist" guy made me laugh. There wasn't an ounce of talent....or even schooling in that girl. I seriously don't get how she got that part. All the other actors were great. The plot was kind of cheesy and predictable, but it had it's good moments. I think they should have spent a little more time on the film before "finishing" it. It feels like a "rough draft" to me. Amber, as always, was absolutely great in the film though.
