I watched it earlier, it was really good, I just love the dialog and the creepy feel of it, I am really looking forward to the rest of this.

Again, my only complaint is the length...way too short :(

And the flaming Lord Byron is always a treat :lol

Amber and Chris Golden's BBC project: Ghosts of Albion

sheila wt: I just read your post in the GoA thread at another board:

"William & Tamara - Willow & Tara"

I'm sure you are right, those names can't just be coincidence. Thanks for pointing that out.

kajo, thanks for the information. Indefinite sounds great.

kajo 2000, I don't believe in coincidences where Amber's writing is concerned... :) That woman thinks about everything!

It's been really fun to read her messages at the GoA board.

BTW, Jen, your message to Amber was really nice. It's so hard to thank her, we just don't know where to start... :)

Christopher Golden posted this reply to a fan who wondered why the second installment is shorter than the first one:

As to Act Two, however, you're right!!!! It's shorter than it should be, but rather than it being rushed, the opposite is true. The animation is lagging behind our original schedule. NOTHING is being cut out, and we certainly don't want Cosgrove Hall to have to rush and lower the quality of the wonderful job they're doing, so instead of five acts, we're now looking at six, possibly even seven, with a couple of the breaks in different places.

Hopefully it won't affect most people's enjoyment of GoA, but I know some folks are going to want to brain us because it means they'll have to wait that much longer for the grand . . . hideously evil . . . finale.

I am not sure how I feel about that. It could delay momentum. On the other hand it's extended time to build the hype and success. Still, I just hope there is no rushing of parts , leading to a decrease in quality.

I think what I like the most is the humor in this. Nigel's flirtation and William's reaction lol. I also appreciate the little details in the animation like the spider in this one. It makes me pay attention to not just the speakers but all of it. I was confused at the end of the second part, the screen was fading to black every once in a while, not sure if it was technical or intentional.

Well I don't know how they would rush it if they tried, it is already moving at maximum velocity, heh. I like the details as well, glad the guy crushed that spider, spiders give me the creeps, even if they are only animated. Not that I would crush them myself, that would give me even bigger creeps. It isn't always easy being me.

Xita : I also got the whole fading to black thing in the second part, I did wonder if it was on purpose, I don't think Amber would have missed it when she was doing the editing ;)

DrG : Spiders also freak me out, but I kinda felt sad for the one Nigel brutally mashed (something I could never do myself, I usually vacuum them from a safe distance - I'm such a wimp :sh )

The spider comments remind me of the movie Ruthless People. The kidnapper is talking about being ruthless but when he sees a spider crawling across the floor he takes a paper, scoops it up and gently turns it loose outdoors. Moments later, realizing what he had done, he opens the door and promptly squashes it. Funny stuff. Anyhoo..

Horsies!! Seeing the credits after the third part was a shock. Both acts are too short but they are also really really good. It easy to tell how much hard work has gone into this project. Dark Horse has an animated comic on their site and GOA totally surpasses it in action, plot, dialogue, general spookiness, etc. Plus, the whole interactive premise is awesome. I just read the interview with Emma Samms. Her reply in the text version called “the naked truth” is hilarious! Dear Goddess, can we just skip Tuesday and get to Act 3 already?

There's a section on the site with interviews with the actors. This is part of the one with Jasmine Hyde who plays Tamara Swift.

Quote:
Tell us about working with the rest of the cast and crew.

It's been amazing, I think Amber has been great. She's only 25 and she's really got it together. I'm slightly in awe really.

It's lovely when you get two writers together who really are coming from the same place. It's not like they've both got different agendas and there's any kind of fight there, there's a very strong voice coming from the two of them and that's really encouraging.

They've been really lovely about changes, because I know they were changing things quite a lot up to and during recording. They've been very flexible with that, and it's really lovely to work for them. They've been so supportive and very energetic, especially Amber. She's so 'up' that she's injected the cast - who are restrained British actors - with a bit of a zing. But that's the writing as well, because you can't really be too reserved.

How would you like to see Ghosts of Albion progress?

I think there's loads of potential from the way it's been written and the way it's been set up. Personally, I'd love to see it go on, I really would. I do like the way it's ending, because it's very much, 'Right, well we've gone through all of that, there's been some significant changes, but boy, we've got a lot of work to do.'

It really is an invite for a second episode. I'm hopeful Tamara will go on to bigger and better battles.

Loved Tamara's look in part II.

I think the ghost idea is quite reasonable now.

Yes, too short. But don't you think it belong to original Act II?

Just saw act three and really enjoyed it. I'm liking William a lot more each episode and I love Nigel. I'm amazed at how in such short acts the characterisation and dynamics between the characters are conveyed so well - the actors all have such great voices and put so much nuance and feeling into them.

And what a treat to see the first part of Ambers diary, I love the BBC for commissioning the series in the first place and clearly giving the project a lot of support and then making the website interesting with lots of goodies. I enjoyed the two new interviews - Anthony Daniels says some very complimentary things about Amber at the end of his one. And there's a fun bit where he talks with C3PO's voice.

William's really growing on me. In the space of three episodes, I think I'm starting to see his change from a pompous boy into something of a man. The transportation spell that took them to the brothel was hilarious, as were his blushes when Nigel was talking about Bodicea. Heh. I love the way that the characters are given depth and personality; that's always a pull of good animation for me. Not that I really know what good animation is, mind, but I know what I like. :)

Tamara's innocence is amusing, particularly because she gives off a more experienced vibe than is actually true, I think. Even though she has an acceptance for the world of magic and demons, I think it still comes as a shock to her when she experiences these things first hand. I love how the viewers are taken along that discovery with her; it's a credit to the excellent writing and also the wonderful voicing of the character.

I do love Nigel. He's so creepy. He has a very world-weary air around him that's making me wonder just how old he really is. I'm guessing pretty old, particularly with that line about him being old enough to be Tamara's father, "and then some". I loved how he spoke to Bodicea though, calling her a "murderous trollop". :lol Anyone that uses the word trollop is fine by me, heh. He's a great character; very interesting and mysterious. I loved the close ups on his eyes when he was telling Tamara to tell him to go. Really eerie.

It's a pity this chapter was only two parts long. I could watch this all in one go, and I'm hoping that a dvd will be out of it, at least, when it's all finished.

I was being patient, but it took too long. I mean, I miss Buffy, I do. But life shouldn't just stop because she's gone.

Did anyone else notice that William blushed at the mention of Lord Byron in addition to blushing at the mention of...what's her name? I can't spell. Well, the naked warrior. I was very amused.

And Nigel, yes, creepy.

This act was waaay too short. It was rather evil of them to end it like that, too. But I guess they just wanted to make sure that we're all addicted and hooked. :boot

I'm really enjoying Ghosts of Albion. Agree part 3 was too short, and wonder (like Hyo Shin commented) if these two parts were really the end of part 2. The characterizations are wonderful (not to mention the dialogue... witty barbs), and I'm immensely enjoying watching Tamara and William grow (change) as they enter this new phase in their life (ie the magic... having to deal with such immense responsibility). And I must admit even if Nigel is a "baddie", he certainly intrigues me. Can't wait for the next part!

As for site itself... it's lovely. Between the interviews and Amber's diary there is so much to enjoy (so insightful).

Not me, she was THE reason to watch Dynasty. I blame it all on her. :p

Well she has good taste in women that's for sure, I'm not always sure about the men, I mean I seem to recall comments about Johnny Depp. Not my type, heh, too pretty, so he shouldn't be anyone else's type either of course. Though I guess he is pretty enough to be Legolas' brother. Hmm, I see a pattern in there somewhere.

Nevermind, back to Ghosts of Albion. I love the third act the best. In this part they actually have entire conversations without demons coming crashing in every other sentence. The first two acts were moving a bit too fast for me, but that may just be old age settling in as well. I liked the other parts, but I loved this one. The little details in the artwork, like the blush on William's cheeks was very cute. The final scene was a nice twist. Old creep, cradle robber, I thought he was putting some spell on Tamara to make the moves on her, but I didn't think about him being a vampire till he went for her neck. Aren't I a bright light. :happy

Has anyone watched the interview with Emma Samms? It's so funny. The interviewer asks her about playing Bodicea, who is naked, and Emma says that it's her first nude part, but that she took it very seriously and felt very comfortable being naked. :lol

It's worth watching. She's better looking now than she ever was on Die-nasty. Heh. And it's nice to hear her own accent. Swoon. She really does have a lovely voice. Sigh.
