I just talked to the folks at CSUS. This is a free showing and according to their last update, Amber isn't scheduled to appear. I'm disappointed that Amber won't be there, but I'm thrilled to see Chance. I've been so envious of all the kittens who've gotten to see a film so filled with Amber's talent and soul.

weathergrrl, I hope you do get to see Chance. It's not going to win an Academy Award or anything, but for what it is (low budget, indie film, by the divine Miss Benson) it's a lot of fun. Seeing Amber play a character that's so hyper (not to mention hearing her character say "F**K!) is worth the price of admission.

Amber has got to be one of the kindest, most multi-talented young women to come along in a very long time.

See now, Janice, it's comments like yours that have made me soooo jealous of everyone who's seen Chance and even more jealous of those who've met her in person.



I looked up Chance on imDB and it has a bunch of comments and its rating is higher than dozens of movies that actually got distributors. I'll definitely go see the movie, and maybe, just maybe Amber's plans will change and she'll be there to present it. A weathergrrl can dream, can't she?

To that I add, please take a butt shot!! It's kind of a Kitten tradition, and Amber is very cool with it.

If you..rather, WHEN you meet Amber, you'll love her even more than you do now. It's impossible not to. She's the happiest person I think I've ever had the privilege to meet.

Oh, and regarding the imDB thing: I think many of the comments come from Kittens and Amberholics and Amberfans that got to see the film in Birmingham at Sidewalk.

Have a great time. Hopefully Amber and her Mom will be there.

and starring Amber Benson , "Tara Maclay" from TV's Buffy the

Vampire Slayer. Amber Benson will be in attendance and will host

a question and answer period following the screening that will

focus on the film and women in the film industry. The screening

is free.

A source with the organizers says:



"We will have raffle tickets for signed official Chance t-shirts" and also they are "trying to get some photos for Amber to sign as well." Also stated that "The screening is free. Amber wanted the college kids to be able to see it without worrying about money."

Oh yes Kajo, I remember now and I trust you will keep us posted on the result *cough*bossingaroundtypeofhint*cough*.

I should have said on this side of the Atlantic *and* on my side of the North Sea.

Although a plane ticket to London is actually cheaper than a train ticket to Rotterdam (a Dutch town where there is a film festival every year as well), but I prefer crawling a 100 miles over flying.

I'd definitely go. I don't need much of an excuse to go to London anyway. Too bad Chance won't come to Holland though. I am sure it would be well received. It has this -uhm- racy quality to it that is part of many of the more popular Dutch movies (esp. the ones from the 70's/80's) as well.

I will definately be going to the screening at CSUS. I'm so excited! I've wanted to see Chance for so long and Amber will be there too!

Anyway, I don't have a videocamera or anything, so I couldn't tape it, but I would be willing to give a full report on the women in film talk.

My girlfriend and I will be driving out there from Berkeley, so I could also offer a ride to anybody who would like go from the East Bay area. Just send me an email and we could work something out.

Events celebrate Women’s History Month



In celebration of womanhood, California State University, Sacramento, is hosting Women’s History Month. Events range from the entertaining and the fun, such as Decorate Your Speculum Day, to the to the serious and the poignant, like “The Legacy of Matthew Shepard” by his mother Judy Shepard or the lecture, “Women in Afghanistan after the Taliban.”



This year organizers are also taking a broader view.



“We’re trying to bring aboard a little bit of the global perspective,” said Jessica Higgins of the Women’s Resource Center. That is reflected in presentations on exploitation in the international flower industry and a panel discussion on transnational feminist activism.



Closer to home is Judy Shepard’s March 12 lecture on the death of her son, Matthew Shepard. Her son, a gay student at the University of Wyoming, was brutally beaten to death in 1998 in a hate crime that garnered national attention.



“Her story is especially telling of how women in our culture take something devastating and fight back,” Higgins said. “And the issues of homosexuality and hate crimes are pertinent to everyone.” Judy Shepherd is now the executive director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, which raises awareness of issues surrounding diversity and discrimination.



This year’s events also feature performance pieces developed by CSUS students. Themed around “Transforming the Feminine,” the performances are on March 5 and 27.



Also new this year is Decorate Your Speculum Day on March 11. The event is aimed at demystifying—and having a little fun—a subject few women, especially young women, are comfortable with: the pelvic exam.



“The biggest fear they have is of the speculum,” Higgins said. “It’s really not painful, even if it is uncomfortable, and laughing about it really relieves the tension.” The examination implement also looks vaguely like a duck—but a very plain duck—hence the need to decorate it. Those who want will be able to adopt a speculum and glue on glitter, beads, feathers and other decorations as well as get information about women’s health issues.

I'd say it's pretty PG-13ish with the sexual situations and violence. The language might lean a little toward an R, I think. It's hard to remember, but I'd say overall, it's probably PG-13.
