Kristen at E! Online is running her annual Save One Show poll, and How I Met Your Mother is one of the options. There's a lot of competition, but since HIMYM is consistently underrated, imho, it certainly could use the support. Vote for your weekly dose of Alyson!

Um...does that mean the show is likely to be canceled? I know I griped a lot about the early episodes, but they've managed to pull out of their slump. And to be fair, looking back I can see that those episodes weren't nearly half as bad as I thought they were.

Per the article I read, HIMYM is one of the stronger shows within the wobbling group. More to the point, its ratings are going up with time rather than down. So even tho they're still disappontingly low, they seem to have the potential to improve.

It would be truly sad to see it cancelled, especially since it has, on the whole, managed to maintain a consistently high level of quality.

Consider last night's repeat: the excellent "Cougar" episode. Not only did we have a nice guest turn by Jane Seymour, but it was also one of the very best Aly episodes, with outstanding support from all of the other members of the ensemble.

OK, I don't normally watch this show but I caught a few minutes tonight. Question: Is it my imagination, or is Aly a hell of alot more tanned than she EVER was on Buffy? It seems on Buffy, she was more alabaster (like Amber) with freckles.

It's beeen noticed in some personal appearances too. People who probably know more about it than I do think it's achemical tan. Maybe to go with the current hair colors?

Thought so. I'm a redhead with Aly's original skintone, alabaster. Trust me, we don't tan. You can put us next to the sun and we won't tan. Turn red, blister, yes. Tan, no.

Of course ALy's natural shade(My Stepmother Is an Alien, BtVS S-1) is very dark with only some red highlights so, yeah I guess that's close enough on skin type.

It also fits in with the plotline of the series: Lily is supposed to have spent the summer in California, so it makes sense that she would come back to New York all tanned (although the series, of course, is filmed entirely in LA),

Interview with Alyson from CNN.com:

'Pie's' band camp girl gets married on 'Mother'

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- "They are SUCH the couple that belongs together," says Alyson Hannigan, lounging on a makeshift patio outside the set of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother." She's musing over a just-filmed wedding scene involving her character, Lily Aldrin, and Marshall Eriksen, played by Jason Segel.

"I love the fact that they are in a healthy relationship on television," Hannigan says. "I'm sort of sick of watching those couples where you're like, 'Why would they ever be together? They hate each other.' Maybe it's funny, but it's so tiring."

The two-part wedding episode beginning Monday (8 p.m. EDT) closes the comedy's second season. The show centers on five 20-something singles in New York, with Lily and Marshall its most stable twosome.

Of course, as it is with most weddings -- televised or otherwise -- more than a few things go awry on the big day.

"Look, I'm not going to stress out about every little thing," says Hannigan's Lily during a scene on Twentieth Century Fox's Stage 22. "I'm marrying Marshall today, and nothing can ruin that."

Fateful last words in sitcomland, of course.

"I definitely related to the whole, 'OK, I'm not going to stress out,' " says Hannigan, recalling her own nuptials three years ago to actor Alexis Denisof, a ceremony not nearly as chaotic as the one she's doing on TV.

"We had our perfect wedding," she says. "Nothing major went wrong. Not that I knew of. But the wedding planner probably had a coronary a couple of times."

Panic becomes palpable, and wildly hysterical, as Lily -- in and out of a long white wedding gown -- attempts to thwart the inevitability of Murphy's Law.

It's a classic comedy of errors, and these days Hannigan couldn't be happier falling flat on her face -- yes, literally -- after six years of taking on demons in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

"You name it, we did it on that show ... which was phenomenal," says Hannigan, who pursued sitcom work after "Buffy" because the rigors of an hourlong show were just too demanding.

"Also, I just love comedy and wanted to focus on that," she says, relaxing on a sunny afternoon in a jean mini and layered long-sleeved T-shirt.

"I really responded to the fact that in the script for the pilot episode, you not only got to be funny, but also played real emotions," she says. "I still have that side that loves drama and loves to go there."

But it is Hannigan's deft timing and smooth comic energy that have some drawing parallels to another CBS leading lady: Lucille Ball.

"Been reading my mom's letters, haven't you?" she says with a laugh, humbled by the comparison. "I've always admired her and I could watch Lucy for hours. But I don't feel like that's true. I've always loved her and Carol Burnett. I'm sure that shapes how your sense of humor develops. But do I think I hold a candle to them? No, no, no. Talk to me in 40 years."

Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas might beg to differ, since they hired Hannigan without her even reading for the role.

"We just met with her and got to know her as a person," Bays says between scenes, the scent of lilies and roses from the mock wedding hall wafting through the set. "Almost the first thing that we looked for was, 'Is this the kind of person we want to hang out with?"'

At 33, Hannigan is already an entertainment veteran, having started out in commercials at age 4.

"People often ask me, 'What would you have done if you hadn't been able to do this?' I just can't come up with a good answer, or a truthful answer, because I just don't know. ... I would watch 'The Brady Bunch' and want to be Cindy Brady. I just wanted to be in that world," says Hannigan, who now has more than two dozen movie and TV credits (including the "American Pie" film romps).

She even has two songs recorded about her: "Alyson Hannigan" by Juvenile Wreck and "This One Time," which borrows her now-famous "American Pie" line, "This one time, at band camp ..."

It was really cute.

Does it bother anyone but me that CNN credits her with only 6 years on BtVS? Seems like a stupid thing to get wrong, but that's just me.

Lol, I just saw the ep. It was cute. Though Marshall's hair made me want to scream. I was hoping they'd just shave the rest off, hehe.
How far will she go to save her life?

Well, technically, it's six and a half, as season one was only twelve episodes.

Rumor has it that HIMYM has been renewed. From Zap2it:

A rumored CBS schedule circulating on the eve of upfronts includes on-the-bubble comedies "How I Met Your Mother," "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Rules of Engagement."

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that CBS is likely to maintain a Monday night comedy block that includes third seasons of "HIMYM" and "Christine," as well as a second run of mid-season comedy "Rules." Those three would carry the night along with returning hit "Two and a Half Men," a move that would mean the end of "The Class" and would also suggest that none of CBS' new comedy pilots would be on the air in the fall.[/url]

An excellent season finale last night, with many things brought 'round "full circle" (e.g. the blue French horn, the South Asian Cabbie, etc.). AH does a really first class falling-down-drunk! :lol

Let's all hope that this high level of quality is not lost on the CBS programmers, and that HIMYM will be renewed for a complete (22 eps) third season.

It was an interesting episode, given how it ended. First, can I say that the scene where Aly is in the background while Marshall is ordering the hot dogs was hysterical, just watching her shimmy and shake there and do the macarena.

But if the show were not to be renewed, this would be a decent end, as it ties a lot up. I'll use the spoiler tag here just in case
Spoiler:
Ted and Robin break up, but we learn that Robin did travel the world and that because they broke up Ted was free tomeet and marry their mother; Barney is actually upset at the break-up but in true Barney fashion offers to act as wingman for Ted, and Marshall and Lily end up happily and lustily married.
It would be a good way to end it all.

I saw an ad the other day and the season premiere is September 24th...or maybe the 29th...my memory is a bit sketchy these days...but I'm sure you could check on IMBD or something...and Aly still with the dark hair...I know she's trying to get out of the Willow/American Pie identification thing, but I just can't get used to it...she's so cute as a redhead!

I thought it was a cute episode, but without very much for Lily to do (although the interaction with Iglesias was funny).

I am still upset that those bangs hide our view of the lovely Hannigan forehead. :happy

The end of the second episode was just hilarious. Aly as an old woman in a conservative costum? How wonderful is that. So we know they are still together Marshal and Lily. And funny like always. I wonder what the writers have in store for the couple in season 3.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say she was depicted as an old woman--it was much more like a middle-aged woman (says someone who is long past the half-century mark ;-) ).

Anyway, she was still gorgeous, although I hope Lily/Aly never gives up her lovely long locks.

I wonder if Lily and Marshall have any children.......
