San Diego Comic Con

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

Joss can kiss my... no, scratch that. My ass is too cute to be profaned by lips of Joss.

I have no interest in ComiCon, aside from being glad to hear that there will be people wearing "got tara?" shirts there. But I just might be persuaded to join in the after-con reveleries.

I love San Diego.

I worked for the Navy and was out there back when goverment grants grew on trees and ther paid me a $100 an hour just cause I had a degree in stats.

Ahh...

Great little occult book store there too, wish I remembered the name, bought the Tao of Physics there.

Should be a good time. Too bad I wont be there.

Have I mentioned I loved the new shirts!

Have I mentioned that I miss the days of big fat governmental research grants?

Hmmmm con in SD, my "old" home...Might have to check it out, only 6 hours away..For those who are going to SD, if you want to go to a wonderful bar, friendly down to earth, try Greystokes in north county, its in Oside..Not quite in SD, but its worth the trip to Osdie..

I used to be the "bouncer" there and its a small community bar with some really friendly people..If there arent any hotel rooms available for the kittens, i have some friends there who would put ya up for a small price :lol

Dude! I'm from OSide! Well, from Vegas, but moved to Oside my sr. yr. of high school. (It rocks)

As for the occult shop, (I ferget who mentioned it) ... do you mean the Psychic Eye? I've been there many a-time and adore it. (And it always smells like sandalwood -- very peaceful).

Now, I am going to order a shirt from the Cafe for the Con, but where do I get the Tara eyes one? If it's N/A, that's cool -- I would just like to get enough shirts for all three days.

Hmmm, since Julia's advertising her ass as too cute to be profaned (well, by Joss' lips -- she didn't say anything about kitten lips), and . . .

since rumor has it she might be around for some of the after hours SD festivities, and . . .

seeing how San Diego girls have been known to drive women crazy . . .

hmmm, maybe I should think about hopping on the 5 south and heading to San Diego come August. :evil

Heh. You know what I just realized? Comic Con is on the 3rd. I'm going to a night game on the 3rd, after being on a mini-one day vacation up in Laguna Beach the night/morning/afternoon before the game. I'm gonna be pretty wiped, so I dunno if I'll be up for carousing about after all that. :(

I'll certainly try, though. Even if it's just to drop by, give everybody a hug, and then go back home and pass out.

A Joss Whedon Q&A, I am dreading it. I really really am. Every single time he opens his mouths the angry rant thread grows by 3 pages. I want his mindgames to end.

A quick question since I don't have time to go back and read the whole thread..Is Chris Golden going to be at the San Diego Con? God, I hope so, because I don't think he was happy with the way the season played out concerning Willow and Tara..I also don't think he would hesitate to tell Joss so...

SDCC Schedule

Postby Rally » Fri Jul 19, 2002 9:08 am

Friday Programming:

4:00 Columbia Pictures/Revolution Studios: XXX and Tooth Fairy–Last night Sony/Revolution screened XXX (which opens in theaters Aug. 9) for us and today Vin Diesel's co-star (and Maxim's current cover girl) Asia Argento will appear to greet fans and sign autographs. (Fans also know her as legendary horror director Dario Argento's daughter). Also, Emma Caulfield (Anya on Buffy) will be appearing in person to preview her upcoming horror/thriller Tooth Fairy: The Ghost of Matilda Dixon and answer your questions about the film. Room 20

5:30 Gays in Comics: Crossfire–This panel serves as a prequel to the 15th annual Gays in Comics panel (tomorrow at 5 p.m.). Itt spins off a hot topic from last year's GiC panel raised by DC editor Joan Hilty (who, although not attending Comic-Con, organized this panel and will co-host it in spirit). Is there such a thing as a "gay sensibility"? If so, how does it manifest itself in gay creators’ stories and art, and comics fandom? In a roundtable discussion staged talk-show-style, Sequential Tart's Denise Sudell splits the question into different aspects and lets six opinionated queer creators go at it: writer/artist Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, X-Men), writer Terrance Griep (Scooby Doo, Big Bang), award-winning writer/artist Eric Shanower (Age of Bronze, Oz Story Magazine), writer/artist Elizabeth Watasin (Charm School), artist/painter Jose Villarrubia (Veils, Alan Moore's ABC covers), and artist/animator Joe Phillips (The Heretic, Xodus USA). Room 16AB

Saturday Programming:

3:30 Joss Whedon–Dark Horse Comics presents Joss Whedon, the creator behind the hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel! Last year, Joss made a splash with his comics writing debut Fray and this fall he brings his futuristic adventure Firefly to television. This is your chance to ask Joss about the comics, the shows, and his writing career—don't miss it! Room 6BCDEF

5:00 Gays In Comics: Year 15 and Still Coming Out!–Celebrating 15 years at Comic-Con, this popular panel of cutting-edge gay, lesbian, bisexual, and even straight creators and publishers will cover all the bases. From publishing to writing to art to fandom, gays in the comic world are coming out strong. Featuring Andy Mangels, moderator, writer (Star Trek, Roswell); Darren Davis, publisher/writer (Tidal Wave Studios, 10th Muse, Legend of ISIS); Jai Sen, Xeric-winning publisher/writer (Shoto Press, Garlands of Moonlight, The Golden Vine); Devin Grayson, writer (Nightwing, X-Men: Evolution); Joe Palmer, webmaster (Gay League), Carla Speed McNeil, award-winning straight writer/artist (Finder); and Chuck Kim, writer (Superman, Powerpuff Girls). Room 16AB

6;30 Gay Comic Fan Reception and Party!–Here's your chance to socialize with other gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or open-minded fans and creators. This party, sponsored by the Gay League, will include lots of fabulous door prizes, games, some truly fun video entertainment, and dozens of comic and animation pros. Room 16AB

Oh god. Gay comic fans...beware. If Joss is there, who knows what "wackiness" might ensure.

And can I just say, irony's kind of ironic sometimes? I hope he gets a friggin' earful from everyone who's there.

Thanks for the schedule, Rally. It's almost too good to be true, but I'm feeling kinda ambivalent about all the "gayness" involved. I'm worried that the comic folks might still be in the "joss is god" camp, and this could keep getting nastier.

On the other hand, it could be another great opportunity to show others how joss can keep putting his foot into his mouth, aliienating and pissing us off even more (if that's even possible).

One of these days, it's gotta all catch up to joss.

Good luck to ya'll that get to go.

Janice

Edited to add:

We may have a HUGE opportunity here. Regarding the schedule Rally writes:

Isn't Andy Mangels the guy that wrote the Advocate interview with joss and marti we've all been discussing?????????

And Andy's editor of the entertainment section of the Advocate,Alonso Duralde, is someone that Bob might know from college????:bounce

A possible woo and hoo here????Aso a big cheer for the "search" engine.

may i suggest something? isn't it a better statement to simply rise above this and *ignore* all parts Joss will be involved in?

some say in different threads that they will never watch buffy again yet are planning to harrass joss at the convention for something he chose to do in *his* tv show. your reasons are your own and to that extent they are valid. but many people will also be there because they have an interest in what he has to say and you will be quite possibly ruining the event for them. joss i'm sure has heard the comments and seen the letters. he will deal with it in his way. but please, think not of joss or yourselves, but the people who still consider themselves fans.

and put me in the camp that finds the t-shirt offensive. it's a statement against joss? fine. but to me it mocks the death of a character that you all say you love so much. hypocritical.

I believe we posted a warning about the shirts, they aren't for everybody. It requires a sophisticated sense of humor.

As far as Joss, I challenge you to find anyone on this thread who is going to the con who is going to harass Joss? WHO? Give me a name? Notice I am going and have no plans of following Joss around. Rally has clearly stated that the main goal in going is to go party with friends. And other posts are from people who are not even going to the con itself but only driving to san diego to hang out with friends. I may show up to the Q & A and try to get a question in. THe kitten board has no plan to follow Joss around everywhere we go, yelling stuff at him. We have no plans to kidnap him, etc. We don't believe in STALKING. We think that kind of behavior is creepy and disturbing.

EvilsGood,

I can only respond with how I feel. I can't speak for others.,

What I wrie here are my opinions and rants. That's all.. Just because I think Joss is a hypocritical liar does not mean that I wouldn't be a civil, respectful person if ever I would meet him..I like to treat others as I would like them to treat me.

I don't think any of the Kittens intend to "harass" Joss.

I think wearing the tshirts is a good idea. If I were going (which I'm not), I'd want one.

I USED to be a Buffy fan.

Mods, feel free to delete if you feel appropriate.

Re: SDCC Schedule

Postby EvilsGood » Sat Jul 20, 2002 4:55 pm

my point wasn't to put anyone down. i was saying that an alternative was to completely ignore him. a bunch of kittens refusing to give Joss the time of day is, imho, a much better statement.

and rally did post this on the front page (even if it was in jest or sarcastic, which wasn't stated)

Quote:
But he should be scared on general principal and not stand in front of any two story windows on general principal... at least not while wearing his kitten tshirt.

and i believe Xita also said some people may find the t-shirts offensive. i did. again, one person's opinion.

but now i'm a detractor? fine. label me as you wish. it rolls off. i am a huge w/t shipper and i *still* support the kitten board, even if some of my views differ. i don't believe this makes me less of a kitten, but if you feel this way, that's your right.
