Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

The Times is part of the Rupert Murdoch empire and thus its journalism is as questionable as the rest of his stable. The best you can ever hope for is a vague approxamation of what was said.

Willow: ...I have to tell you....

Tara: No, I understand you have to be with the person you l-love

Willow: I am

Well, I've noticed a certain eagerness recently on Alyson's part to emphasise her hetero status. I'm thinking of an interview she gave recently (or maybe she didn't give it recently but it was posted somewhere on this board recently) where she was asked "Who would Willow chose, Oz or Tara?" And she answered something like "Well, I'm not gay, so I would chose Oz, but Willow would definatly chose Tara." What I found odd was that she inserted herself into the question seemingly just in order to state that she is not gay. I thought why bother saying "I'm not gay" when they weren't asking about you, they were asking specifically about Willow. I mean, really, she is saying "I'm not gay" so often she is starting to sound like Tom Cruise.

But then I thought she must get more then her fair share of gay-themed questions directed at her personally (not just at the character she plays), more then other actors who have never played gay and more then Amber because Aly is a bigger star and gets interviewed more often. It must be kind of frustrating to have to visit the lesbian issue again and again and AGAIN (because let's face it, lesbians are very titillating) especially when you'd probably rather be talking about dick.

I know she is very supportive of W/T. I just imagine that she's just a little frustrated at those who blur the line between Willow and Alyson. Just a little.

Well...I always try to decode the message when someone is speaking, I tried to decode Aly's "Not-gay-at-all" statements (as Amber's as well) and I reached some conclusion:

A)You never can tell how the journalist distorted the true answer.

B)We all know we're not living in Utopia and that for an actress it could get difficult to gain non-lesbian roles if she identifies in a lesbian one for too long. So I can understand she needs to "cut the rumours off" 'cause she needs to eat and feed the pets. Being trapped in a "Willow-role" can be devastating for her career (think about Sheryl Lee).

C)We are not informed about the side effects of celebrity gained thanks to a lesbain role in a world full of homophobic bastards. Sometimes I think about the strange guy who sent Amber letters with quotes from the Bible. Aly is certainly under some pressure, and I understand if she feels the need to keep the L-word away from her as much as possible.

Aly certainly is positive about the W/T thing but I find her answers are sometimes kind of childish.

Amber answer about the difficulties she found in acting a lesbian role not being gay and trying to give humanity to the character sounded more aware of the effect on fans that a "No never" answer can cause.

You know I adore Aly, but as much as I can understand her, she pisses me off sometimes. That's life anyway.

Quote:
An unexpected twist was Willow suddenly becoming a lesbian — an old stand-by that has been used to spice up many a series of late. "At one point, I was thinking that Willow was really treading water and nothing seemed to be happening for her," she says. "Then we are into a whole new scene and it became exciting. It was also a challenge as an actress, because I am not attracted, sexually, to women in the slightest."

I still don't have any problem at all with this statement, whether these were her exact words or not. We don't know what kind of questions they asked her here. For all we know one of them could have been whether she herself is attracted to women or something like that.

I really like what she says about it feeling like Willow was treading water until Tara came along and it became exciting. That's a compliment to WT in my eyes. Tara influenced Willow for the better as much as vice versa. :heart

Yep! I totally agree with you Garfield !!!! and I'm eating custard tarts and raspberries...in honour of Aly. I still think the Sacramento thing sounds a bit weird though - I mean I'm English and I've been there,...if I had that sort of dosh personally I can think of many locations I'd prefer.(no disrespect indended to those who live there...the town I live in is nothing special!)

I really love how Amber and Aly seem to have such different personalities yet they are both so cute, each in their own way.:bow

My feeling is that if Aly did make the comment about her sexuality it was simply an actor trying to make it clear that they are separate from the character they played. After all how else would she make the distinction? Say I'm not as nice/smart/faithful as Willow? It would all be lies.:)
