Elephant in the room? Nobody (particularly not a mainstream franchise) wants to publish a book about lesbians.

W/T are lesbians. We're talking about Buffy books based on W/T, or dreaming/wishing that they'd get a book to themselves like some of the other characters in the series. Some people speculated why it hasn't happened yet. I was stating that - more than any other reason - it's probably because the publishers don't want to make a book spotlighting a lesbian relationship.

I actually haven't read any of these books (though based on some of the recommendations in this thread, I plan to upon returning to the States). In the books where W/T do have a prominent role, are they simply referred to as "special friends," or do they ignore their relationship entirely? Is their lesbianism only hinted at (nudge, nudge), or do they make any mature attempt to portray them as they were in the series?

I'm sorry if I don't understand, but what part of my post WASN'T about W/T?

Nothing. Good point, but I have a feeling it is not the only reason why WT are never going to have their own ´official´ book or play any significant part in one ever again. For which by now I am glad, I do not trust them to do right by WT.

None of the Buffy books really address sex per se, not for Buffy nor for W/T. But for those books that do feature W/T, the treatment has largely been loving and in line with what happened on TV. That is, they are shown as being deeply in love and always concerned about one another, with the little comments about holding hands, etc. thrown in.

I suspect that the reason that we have not seen a W/T book is more mundane and hjas less to do with their lesbianism- after all, there is a growing body of truly wonderful books for young lesbians (ie, Dare, Truth or Promise, Keeping You a Secret). There have been only a few books that have featured Willow at all, and these have had to stick to canon. The rules that the writers have to follow allows them only little leeway with what they can do. For those that would like to see if a better answer is possible, you can post on Slayerlit, where one of the series editors is a regular poster. She may know more than me, for sure.

But Chris Golden captures our girls best.

Absolutely concur on Chris Golden vis-à-vis W/T.

One of my favorite lines in "Wisdom of War" occurs when W&T walk into the "sailor's bar" and Willow says something like:

"Why is everybody looking at us? You would think that we were gay or something." :lol :lol :lol

Several points that have been raised that I wanted to comment on:

but not in the numbers which would justify an entire novel dedicated to W/T.

I don't think anyone is talking about a book which is dedicated to W/T but one which is centred on them, that is they are the lead characters in the story. To take an example from the show Dopplegangland is a Willow centred episode but there is plenty of input from the other characters.
There have been only a few books that have featured Willow at all, and these have had to stick to canon. The rules that the writers have to follow allows them only little leeway with what they can do.

Not wholly true, one unameable trilogy actually used an AU settings. Even if you accept you can't do anything to violate canon there are enough gaps, between S5 and S6 being the biggest one, where you could place a W/T novel without violating the continuity of the broadcast material.
Hmmm, all hope is not lost.... If Fox/JW are at the crux of the problem, then there would be a good place to start. At least to get an honest answer on why there aren't any W/T books in the works.

Maybe if we can find out the problem, we can find a way around it...?

Thing is we know why, its just outside of the boundaries of WaV to explain it because it starts about two minutes from the end of SR.

That aberration was so horrid I completely forgot about it. Thankfully. Though it ended up in canon anyway. But good point, Sheridan.

Like many, I could sure see plenty of places to put a W/T story in late S4 and through S5. In fact, did I not see Garner post on this thread- and his (excuse if I got the sex wrong) fic regarding Tara's thoughts in the Hush to NMR series was masterful, giving you lots of insight into Tara when she was "off screen."

Checked my weather maps today.

Nope...no..no. There is no snow in Hell at least for the next 10,000 years, so that is when we can expect ME to give us a W/T book.

Jumping on this thread way late to ask if anyone knows where I could find the second part of the Wilderness comic. I have, like, 5 copies of part 1 (I had planned on giving them to friends, but that didn't exactly work out), but never got part 2.

As for books, I own both Chaos Bleeds and Wisdom of War but haven't read either...which is odd, because I've owned the books for quite a while. Plus, the guy who wrote Chaos Bleeds is a friend of mine, so he's not too happy about it either. :lol

Hello Gardenia,
You might be able to find it at your local comic book store... but also try www.cinequest.com. I think I've seen it there. Also try Amazon.com. Borders might also have it.

Good luck!

Got bored and decided I'd look through here. I actually have the complete opposite opinion of SySnootles for These Our Actors. I really enjoyed it..I've read it probably about 2-3 times now. Seeing as I normally don't read a book more than once...

You should read it and get your own opinion on it.

I have not read These Our Actors, just doesn't grab me.

Wisdom of War is excellent, and the W/T scenes are nice.

My fave is definitely Monster Island. Some of the dialogue is awful but the W/T scenes are superb and shows that Chris Golden really knows how to write the couple. He really does make a point of emphasising them, as if he is trying to make the point that this couple should hav been emphasised more on the show, which they should have.

I recently found out there was an Illustrated novel for Buffy called "Creatures of Habit". Here is freaky part , it was published in 2002 during a period of time when I was neck deep in Buffy.
http://www.amazon.com/Buffy-Vampire-Slayer-Creatures-Habit/dp/1569715637/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344082634&sr=8-1&keywords=creatures+of+habit+buffy
I guess I was so wrapped up in s6 I didn't notice it.

I have not read it yet (got it off Amazon) but here is a nice drawing of our girls

I recently bought slew of books on this topic.

I've read that book. It's pretty good, considering that it could have gone a completely opposite direction because it was illustrated.
