How I Met Your Mother

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

I'm not putting anything into Aly's mouth. All I am doing is saying how surprised I am that she's able to speak so highly of Britney Spears considering the train wreck her life has been for the past year and a half. Considering that, it's enough to make anyone wonder why the show's creators thought it was anything even approaching a good idea to do "stunt casting" for the episode in which she appears. Alicia had the right idea, of course. To be associated with anything Britney does is bad news bears, and I sadly don't see the show suriving this.

Then again, I'm the pessimistic type.

Oh, and BTW, name one thing she's done in that time where she's displayed even a hint of sanity, and I'll retract my statement.

I just wondered. I certainly didn't mean to start a fight. I was simply curious.

Never mind.

It's alright. Mistakes happen. I'm sorry, too, for appearing like I was trying to start a fight. I most certainly wasn't.

Well, in other news, we finally got a new ep tonight. Looking forward to it.

Dude...don't tease me.

Funny episode for the welcome return of HIMYM. Loved the subplot of Marshall trying to keep Lily from finding out...oh, why spoil it...

I wouldn't be so pessimistic about Britney on the show. Surely her personal life has been a total disaster for some time, but it doesn't have to mean that she is a bad co-worker and as far I understand Alyson's comment was about working with her, not her personal life. I'm not Britney fan either, but I think it's actually interesting to see her on the show.

Well. The new episode was quite good. Not of the best though, but I didn't get disappointed despite my high expectations. The final scene with Barney was simply hilarious :)

Hard to believe a single guest shot would really damage a show with decent ratings and a loyal audience. And working is usually good for a person. (I hope it helps;there's the boys to consider plus from what little I know of her music she's too mediocre to deserve becoming a legend.) Plus I find it hard to imagine ALyson mentioning much about *anyone* e xcept the nice parts.

The fact that the announcement of the guest shot comes after the end of a three month writers strike that probably saw most of that audience go on to do different things is probably enough to convince them to not come back.

Again, that's just me though. Your mileage may vary.

I'm absolutely no Britney-fan. But I think it's a really good idea to have Britney on the show. The episode will get HUGE viewer ratings! A lot of people who have never watched the show before will see just this episode because of Britney. Hopefully this will result in even more fans of the show when they see how great it is!
Just a thought.... ;-)

You know, they've had many Buffy alums and now Britney, why the hell not Amber? I think we should start an e-mail campaign to the network to have Amber do a guest shot...surely trillions of people would tune in to see Amber and Aly together again...does anyone know how we would go about doing that? :wtkiss

And it could go something like this:

Inane stuff right before the credits....roll intro credits.
After the commercial:

Robin and Lily are in the bar, having a drink and chatting about whatever. Lily spots someone at the bar and slides down in her seat, hiding behind Robin, who, of course, asks her what's wrong. Lily tells the story...

[wavy flashback lines]

It's college, but it's the semester that Marshall went to intern in (insert far away city of your choice). Lily was missing him, so she befriended the hot chick down the hall in the dorm. There was some kissing, and some other stuff that makes Lily blush and stammer.

[/wavy flashback lines]

Lily comes back to the present and says, "Oh, no. She saw me. What do I say?" Robin calms her as the hot babe comes over to say hello. Wow, she looks a lot like Tara. Lily wants to talk to her, but Marshall doesn't know about Lily's little foray into the world of softball and motorcycles. He will of course freak if he finds out, but this girl was her "friend" when Marshall was away, so it's kind of his fault anyway. So, Lily and the Tara look-alike decide to have lunch.

Then, something happens and Marshall finds out. Yes, he's freaked, but Barney points out that if he plays it right, that he could be the luckiest man on the planet and Barney can't believe that Marshall is being such a puss about the whole thing.

"Dude, it's a prefab threesome. Don't be such a putz."

Anyway, then whatever else can happen, but I just liked the idea of this.

I certainly agree with the excellence of the idea of bringing AB, as one of the many "Buffy" alums who could appear on the show (as have, by my count, three so far) in for an appearance. :D

However, if they follow the procedures they have followed up to this point, they would most likely make her character something completely different from Tara, as they did with Alexis Denisof.

For instance, they might decide to make her into Lily's gynecologist, or maybe Barney's accountant. :lol

I think there are four Buffyverse actors who have also been on HIMYM: Alyson (of course), Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker and Harry Groener. Though I'm not sure if you meant that three people have guest starred on the show.

Or maybe they could make her Ted's forthcoming wife, though this would probably mean the we'd have to wait very very long time before seeing her, so it's not a good idea. "Tara"/Lily-loving is lot a better idea anyway

In the episode "How Lily Stole Christmas", which is the 11th episode of the second season.

My goodness, I forgot all about Harry Groener! (I was thinking only of "Buffy"-alum guest stars).

So, that makes four:
Alexis Denisof
Amy Acker
Harry Groener
Tom Lenk

Okay, I'm gonna duck and throw this out there:

I thought Britney was great. Regardless of whether or not her life is a total train wreck, she did a good job with the guest shot. Good for her.

Oh, and not enough Lily. Not by a long shot.

I thought Britney was quite good too, although her character was quite stereotypic, but maybe that's what they wanted.

Yeah, definitely not enough Lily.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. Britney's presence was the single bum note in an otherwise flawless episode. Sadly, it was enough to eclipse pretty much everything else about the episode. Much like trying to watch "The Runaway Bride", two things become obvious right away: the whole episode revolves around someone who can't act worth a hill of beans, and casting her in the role in the first place was the single worst idea the production team ever made. (Of course, Doctor Who didn't have the excuse of coming off a three month writers strike that apparently left those in charge with no better ideas than to cast a talentless hack in a cameo, but that's not really the point, is it?)

And I find it difficult to accept that both Aly and Cobie were able to speak so highly of her, considering they never shared any scenes with her. As for NPH...well, by the end of the episode, I was ready to vomit anyway, so the ending scene between Barney and Abby wasn't doing much to convince me of his word on the matter.

The ironic thing, of course, is that had those in the show decided not to pull the stunt casting of getting Britney Spears, whose greatest acting talent these days is trying (and failing) to convince the rest of the world that she's actually in full control of her mental faculties, and get an actual actor in the role, this episode could have actually worked. Sadly, as is the case with her these days, Britney manages to eclipse it all (and it's sad that all the publicity the show received in the past few days was more due to her appearance than any other more worthwhile reason) and drag it down to the gutter. It's sad that the show has yet to be renewed, because based on this episode, I'll be expecting a notice of cancellation any time now (and yeah, I know I'm being pessimistic here.)

Oh, and one more thing. "How I Met Your Mother" does NOT star Brtiney Spears! It was, at best, a cameo role stretched out farther than it deserved. Get it right next time, E Channel.

I have to disagree with SithLordWiccan, who I think is being overly pessimistic. I concur with dlline that although Spears certainly would never bowl anyone over with her acting talent, she was competent for what she was called on to do.

In any case, the episode was a considerable improvement over last week's rather lame outing. Consider:

1. Everyone's forgetting about the other excellent guest star, the lovely and capable Sarah Chalke (a Canadian, like CS eh), who did very nicely as the doctor.

2. I thought the "2-minute date" was hilarious. :lol

3. I certainly agree that there was nowhere near enough for AH to do--she might as well have not been in the episode at all! :happy

I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but man, get over yourself. If you don't like the show, then don't freaking watch it. End of story. I'm suprised you even bothered to tune into this episode. Does Britney have problems? Yes. Does everyone have problems? Of course, but our business doesn't get splattered all over TV. I'm sure that if all her issues had been mum, there wouldn't even be this conversation. And not to mention, what a great attitude to have, bagging on someone who's down. I'm glad the powers that be gave her a chance. Will she win an Emmy? No, but damn it's great to see her doing something other than being hauled away in an ambulance surrounded by paparazzi. People make mistakes, and I hope that if you ever find yourself down on your luck that people treat you with a little less judgement and a little more understanding than you have afforded Ms. Spears.

On that note, I enjoyed the episode. Britney wasn't great, but she did make me laugh, and how hot is Sara Chalke? Ted's such a great guy (that two minute date was adorable), it's a wonder it's taking him so long to meet in infamous "mother." And I would have to concurr, not enough Lily.
